That sucks. I'm going through all accounts right now and everyone is judged with the same criteria and it doesn't matter how much you have donated.

While it is a good idea to judge everyone with the same criteria, people that are pretty much proven to NOT be multis should be "safe-listed" in some way.

An IP address really isn't any "criteria" at all.  Especially seeing as anyone can run through proxies to have as many IP addresses as they want.  There's enough browsers out there that you could easily set up half a dozen accounts like that and never be detected by such a stone-age test!

At very least, given the number of home networks in use now, they should be supplemented by cookie info to identify individual computers - still not exactly foolproof but soooo easy to implement and a big improvement on the current sledgehammer approach!

Not sure, Lord K, but it seems to come down to an IP address check and pot-luck beyond that.  About as scientific as burning someone at the stake because their neighbour pointed at them and shouted "Witch!"


edited to add:  only, if you point and shout "Multie" with proof (even if they admit it openly on here at times!) then nothing happens!

But equally, on the basis of "what Zeta does", I could have 5 or 6 accounts running by tonight which he would never detect.  An IP check really does prove nothing at all.  It's probably the single most over-rated and misunderstood feature of t'internet ever!!!

Hell of a lot easier to set up a few proxies than consistently  "fake" stuff for sympathy over a matter of nearly 3 rl years.

So "what he does", doesn't do anything at all to solve a multi problem but does cause problems for a lot of genuine players.

Regardless of how Zeta felt about it, if the guy has already told him about his situation, then why is he deleting him now and basically giving a typical comment, which reminds me a lot of politicians, saying, "sorry mate, nothing I can do." Says the Admin of the game..

As long as that is true, it wouldnt give an unfair advantage if he logged on hes main account just to check messages..

If he was crazy enough to pay 150$ to this game no doubt that he could be crazy enough to have multiple accounts because the two are a form of cheating - Buying bonus turns as well as having multiple accounts.

Gladiator, I usually don't counter the things you say but this is pretty far fetched, even from you.  As by your criteria above, then having money, donating, purchasing BT's, and Zeta is the one selling them, are all a form of cheating?  Just think about where this game would be without that extra income.

Donut, sorry to here about the deletions of you and yours accounts.  Next time even if you do inform the proper "authorities", might I suggest, like others have, using proxies?

To add to the IP thing being way overrated and easy to bypass. I created my own Proxy server and before people start flaming me no that does not mean that I'm multiying it just means that my school has gotten really good at blocking sites including other proxies(they block VU :( too).

So yeah I could create a fair amount of accounts using  proxies.

the so-called catch-the-Multi-Account rule in VU have problems.

it is based on activities of IPs (proxy or not) logged in VUs logbook (somewhere inside the server). Like all logs, it has size limit. So, when a multi sweep routine is executed... only the latest activities of accounts present in the logs will be evaluated. At most 2-4days of activity logs of accounts are passed in a series of test or if..then..else procedures.

pages you clicked and buttons you pressed will be sorted by IPs and then by usernames with activity dates and times... some IPs who have more than a set of usernames in a given span of time will become a candidate for deletions, just for example. Proxies are often victims of such test.

*disclaimer, i dont know how to by pass the multi sweep, so dont ask me why i have this idea. i too were victims of deletions in the past. ;)
