Fantasia Age 30
21:58:08 Dec 7th 14 - Ms. Hammie The Brave:

Also, gim jhhgj h fghjjumn is *NOT* beothuk. I think only a few of gim jhhgj h fghjjumn players have even played in beothuk.

00:47:23 Dec 8th 14 - Mr. Barny:

We self-identify strictly as gim jhhgj h fghjjumn.

04:05:08 Dec 8th 14 - Mr. Hanky The Long of Gingers:

I can't see where anyone actually called us beofck but I distance myself from that filth as much as possible. pls dnt insalt meh

20:48:13 Dec 8th 14 - Dark Spawn (Lord Dark Spawn):

You come back for one era, get together with bunch of active friends and have one boring era making you quit again, instead of forming 2-3 small teams and joining other kingdoms, still you could talk to each other on skype or what ever you use these days, that way you would have the element of challenge, and you could joke around who is better and who performed better at killing each other. That is just my oppinion on the matter, I don't see anyone that comes back and does one era of domination staying in the game after it. You come back to VU to play with those friends and have a boring era, I am just saying it might be better of you guys as well for others that you active ones join several teams, making the whole game much more exciting.

If you could check our forums, you could see how we are struggling with activity, so I had a huge week at work, I come back now to activity but its over already because you guys have been online non stop all this time, and few of us that were inactive are done, and thats it, now we are all bored and wait for it to end.

Oh no, I did not compare your kingdom with Beothuk, but I only compared the idea both of these kingdoms have. I was part of that kingdom one era, and it was the easiest and probably the most boring era we had, it was way too easy cause everyone was online all the time, and enemies did not have a chance.

Lord Dark Spawn

Lived in Era 47, got 1 heir(s) (Dark Spawn) and was a member of Beothuk Evil Ops

02:19:08 Dec 9th 14 - Mr. Barny:

Imagine how great it would be if you could queue up actions in VU

15:52:45 Dec 10th 14 - Mr. Hanky The Long of Gingers:

Dark may I also point out that we warred both Vici and mad full time and shaolin part time. You guys only had to focus on 1 target whereas we had to split our oop forces across 3 different kingdoms.

Also as for the work commitment and being dead, sorry mate but that's the game, just make a character on another world, that's the advantage of the character system compared to 1 world cross over

16:17:21 Dec 10th 14 - Dark Spawn (Lord Dark Spawn):

Your victory is impressive and well deserved, it was not the point of my post :) You did well this era, and you were much better than the rest of the map, you guys were strong oop while the rest of the world were planning on a little late era action, and we were wrong to do so.

16:31:26 Dec 10th 14 - Bran (Mr. Bran):

not true ds, we had a large % of our active players geared towards oop fights, we just couldnt capitalise since most mads towns near us had GT spam while barny and binh mopped up

18:00:57 Dec 10th 14 - Mr. Barny:

I agree with parts of everything that you are all saying. As far as OOP goes I think that gim was able to clear out a lot of enemies but I'm probably the only player who was actually 'better off' for having fought OOP than I would have been farming whilst everyone else took an economic hit that wasn't too awful in a relative sense due to the scale of the era if we won OOP.

MAD basically had the expected contribution from their core players but didn't have a strong OOP- the people who you could probably predict were going to do useful kingdom contribution things in MAD were the people who actually did and that short list included players like Aloysius, Bluelight, Anonymous, Dragon, Malimor, and Kobuskan. There was also a Troll player and someone else who's name I'm forgetting. Outside of those players there were definitely some huge misplays like building up very large armories that contained zero troops or guard towers, more commonly just building not good cities with LOTS of guard towers and not having actual troops, and things of that nature.

Some of MAD's core players like Anonymous weren't in a good spot for OOP and I think you can argue that Elf and Dwarf are not ideal OOP races either- you combine that with the fact that a lot of MAD opted to overbuild GT and it's a recipe for not good results when you are fighting 1/2-1/3 of a strong kingdom.

Binh and Fordius didn't really benefit from OOP more than they would have from farming. I'd say that Fordius ended up in the same situation that a lot of Shaolin's players in the west did where he has to train a lot of troops to capture cities that he has to just raze the next tick. Binh and Hanky didn't get huge plunders but weren't hugely set back. A handful of our later starters and lower activity players got set back extremely far OOP. I opted not to raze my 'useless land' on the premise that I would go all-in with training and tax gold thus the cost of building was irrelevant and building upkeep was a non-issue vs the tax gold and peasant levy.

There were some Vinci who put up a really good fight, when I look at Vinci's current roster of 7 players I only see 2 who did not contribute meaningfully but some people clearly left the KD at this point. That said I think that Binh's very large Swordsmen army on one end and a large stack of hammerthrowers on the other swung 2 fronts in our favor immediately, and what got me extremely fed was plundering inactive vinci players who rebuilt elsewhere- I think everyone but JLT went inactive so it was just tons of free mines and resources at a time when we had just finished our costly OOPs and Shaolin had taken our blocker.

As a whole I think that both the dynamic of the map as well as the way people played factors in heavily to the way that things panned out. I'm not going to come on the forums and bash people for doing sub-optimal builds and strategies but there is no denying that there were some huge blunders made that were very costly such as:

Building a large armory with no troops or defenses whatsoever OOP
Lack of troops and over-abundance of Guard Towers and poor economic cities
Poor racial composition for OOP (relavent to MAD and to a lesser degree Vinci, Shaolin racial composition looks fine)
Building a Dwarf armory with 17k armories
Feeding thousands of land worth of well built mines to a high military science Orc on a map where almost everyone took a hit OOP and has a weak economy
Poor magic coverage outside of Shaolin and post-OOP post-STG anonymous that left many players very weak to Nazgul, which are hard to defend against if you lack high activity or a mage

The nail in the coffin for the wars in the SW corner was losing both Shaolin MCs, but that's less of a misplay or blunder and more of just getting out-trained by a higher land player and being unable to match my army (To Woody of Shaolin's credit he bounced a part of my army once when I first passed over the CW'd town, but then he couldnt match it a 2nd time and lost all of his cities to nazgul at the same time which immediately removed one of Shaolin's more useful players)

22:34:36 Dec 29th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

Any relations at all going on in Fantasia? There are what? 3 kds worth anything?

01:02:08 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Barney:

Last round of Fant was not very enjoyable and a lot activity has moved towards GvE so you can expect that Fantasia Age 31 will be hard to predict.

02:18:30 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

I only see 3 kds that have a chance.

Then there's Darkfaith, he could win it all :)

04:42:40 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

wow, monks, lords of war AND MAD are all NAPed.

how embarassing

10:57:02 Dec 30th 14 - Woodeh (Mr. Woodorf):

Worst troll post ever.

12:33:43 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

No, I'm a human this era. ;)

16:30:07 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Jeroo:

This thread is hilarious, glad I came back to this game when I did.  If only any of the kingdoms I was in were still active. . .For what it's worth I think spawns should be spaced further apart, at least to give noobs like me a chance to learn the game and have more interesting, longer eras.  I wouldn't change anything else, VU's already pretty great.

16:22:31 Jan 2nd 15 - Mr. Soccer Balls:

i will be creating a kd to take on MAD!

i hope there are at least 30 kds like the old days

08:55:22 Jan 4th 15 - Mr. Tharos:

I very recently came back to VU after a long break.  I remember when I started (Era of Jeker) this game seemed much better.  I believe part of that has to do with the fact that like most games we quit and go back to... they are never quite as good as we remember.  With that said, I do honestly believe the game was much better back then.

Back then it seemed as if there were a lot more players, which may or may not have been the case.  I believe it was, but also with the way the game is currently... it makes it seem more barren than it needs be.  I will explain that later.

Kingdoms seemed to be better back then as well.  As did the politics.  I doubt many people remember the kingdom I joined my first era (NARSE) but it was probably one of the best groups I played with.  I'm not saying we were great at the game, or did anything all that amazing... but we worked together as best we could and were fighting an enemy that had us severely outclassed both in player skill-level (LGC) and in-game resources.  It also seemed like back then people stayed with their kingdoms and developed friendships.

If this game is going to ever be great again, it needs the community aspect.  When I quit the game, and I'm guessing now.... it seemed as if there was no lasting meaning to anything... Nobody seemed to stick with a KD for more than an era or two... often not even an entire era.  A game like this, where community and in-game politics is so vital, can't thrive without friendships and enemies being made.

However, I believe the biggest problem lies with how many maps there are.  I would guess there were far more people playing when I started on 1-2 maps than there is now spread out over what?  13 maps?  I get that this game is harsh for new players, and that starting over on Fantasia / Mantrax can suck if you get killed off... yet if our already seemingly small player-base is spread out over 13 maps how can we possibly expect the game to be interesting let alone fun?

It would be like loading up a half zone huge 64 player Battlefield maps and spreading a 18-24 players across them.  Pointless and boring.

11:56:53 Jan 4th 15 - Bran (Mr. Bran The Malevolent):

absolutely. there are much better solutions to ppl dying mid era than having so many maps

20:33:34 Jan 4th 15 - Mr. Soccerguy:

The Jester Empire will return to Fantasia. Applications after the era!

04:44:56 Jan 7th 15 - Mr. Barney:

I just wanted to say something: I completely forgot and didn't even remember that people dying and quitting the game was as big an issue as it used to be until you said that. Back when there was only 1 character/world per person/IP a lot of people did just quit the game when they died, and for good reason: They had to rebuild in an already lost era or wait weeks/month to start on a fresh round.

That said, there really is no need for 9-13 worlds.

12:02:36 Jan 7th 15 - Bran (Mr. Bran The Malevolent):

could zeta add tiles to a map thats already in play so that new and dead players can land there?

20:16:50 Jan 7th 15 - Mr. Tot:

I think it was good when there was Fantasia, Mantrax, Starta and Zeta...  4 maps is more than enough for this player-base.

20:36:14 Jan 7th 15 - Mr. Mallikor:

I think it was good because when they died they got to spawn on a lower locked world and start ovee

02:45:01 Jan 8th 15 - Ms. Kiodachi:

I usually dont care about people leaving kingdoms.. but this is just dumb he left our kingdom and joined an enemy kingdom.. please dont accept this guy in any kingdoms.

21:44:06 - Yisrahel has left your kingdom!

Too late

02:55:56 Jan 8th 15 - Sir Yisrahel:

was unaware Black flag was an enemy. I wanted to know where you was before i decided if i should join , I had been talking about joining black flag before you even approached me. I joined your kingdom when invited to see how much of the map you could see.

Will go tagless if it helps?

01:17:49 Feb 4th 15 - Mr. Barny:

How is Fantasia going?

Next Era I'm thinking about just playing Fantasia/Mantrax and having the former roommate who plays on my account play on GvE/Starta.

02:44:03 Feb 10th 15 - Mr. Kreed:

Can someone provide an update on how things are going on fant? Does it look like arma will be casted soon?

13:44:52 Feb 10th 15 - Mr. Soccer Evil Love Slave:

look at kd numbers......lords are fighting, but it's mostly individuals, not much communication. arma will be 2 weeks or so i would predict.

barny, why mantrax?   I'm thinking i'll play fant, gve, and starta for the kdless option.

14:14:39 Feb 10th 15 - Bran (Mr. Narb):

is jesters still happening

18:16:45 Feb 10th 15 - Mr. Millions:

21:44:06 - Yisrahel has left your kingdom!

Not surprising he does that every era. Typical of this player on every map and character he plays. Definitely not trust worthy.

You have been warned.

18:58:00 Feb 10th 15 - Mr. Soccer Evil Love Slave:

of course jester is happening

12:30:52 Mar 24th 15 - Mr. Hirogen Hunter:

Is this a real player?

The Native People
No kingdom

12:33:31 Mar 24th 15 - Bran (Mr. Bran):
