A big debate, on the chat box!
06:30:37 Feb 16th 08 - Mr. Ambrosias Arilyonis:

Ok, i want to ask you all a simple question. What do YOU believe in? Darwinism, Neo-Darwinism, Puntcuated Equilimbrium? (Probably did not spell that right...) ect.... Everyone here is obveasly athiests...

14:37:59 Feb 16th 08 - Mr. Ambrosias Arilyonis:

lol, thats what i thought...

17:35:30 Feb 16th 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

Umm BELIEVE in? I'm not a scientist (meh, did gambling and addictions research for a year but it is boring, no doubt about that). More importantly I'm not a biologist or evolutionary researcher. One thing that stuck with me though is a certain state of mind. When I don't know something, I look it up; I don't just read something one day then "believe" it for the next decade without ever checking in again.

"What do I believe?" That's a philosophical question, but "what would I say is true about how evolution works?" is a time when I hit the library and check in on research. I'm going to suppose that evolution is still holding together nicely since it would be in all the papers if someone had found a real problem with it yet lol, but I'm still not going to assume anything.

23:04:12 Feb 16th 08 - Mr. Matrim:

I say i believe that we are probably going to heaven but if everything that is fun here on earth is frowned upon then it's all going to be illegal in heaven.

06:23:48 Feb 17th 08 - Duke Ulgrin The Bastard:

Actually, Ambro, I'm not athiest.  You could probably describe me best as progressive Christian, though I prefer to attend UU meetings because I can learn more about other ideologies that way.

And I do think evolution is, more or less, the way it life evolved.

16:01:35 Feb 17th 08 - Mr. Arvious IIII:

We were created by God, but evolution can be found in many places, like cars, turning from absolute goop to a cool hybrid, and houses, from tents and mud houses to brick and metal houses...

Even we evolved, we are getting smarter by the generation...

I tink God created evolution, but made us first...

And if we were evolved from monkeys, why do some people, like me, hate bananas?

16:53:00 Feb 17th 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

If you think God created evolution then you're doing one of the worst things a believer can do. You remember how you once told me this stuff was a matter of faith? Well you are losing faith in what the bible says by trying to rationalize it to yourself. Evolution works and so you just up and decide that the bible is wrong and you know better because you are an informed human.

I tink God created evolution, but made us first...

See what I mean here? You can't just go around adding whatever and removing whatever else from what the bible says because you guys say it's the perfect word of God. If it needs changing then you have a much bigger problem than a person can solve by just waving their hand and saying "okok mr. scientist (lol, not our mr. scientist) you're right such and such is obviously true... Actually the bible says nothing about what I'm gonna say next but it's neat and makes sense too... what if...."

I find myself having a hard time getting my point out (maybe it's too early) but do you understand what I mean? To get straight to your quote I would say "The churches of the world don't give a F about what you think God did. They teach what God did and that's the end of it. If you don't believe that then you are bearing false witness and creating false idols." And you know what, if it were MY religion and the followers were running around spreading their own stuff that they added in I would be annoyed too because some people aren't smart enough to avoid screwing it up lol Luckily I don't have my own religion lol but I have heard the kind of quote I just said from believers many times in response to OTHER believers' opinions. Get what I mean?

03:43:25 Feb 18th 08 - Duke Ulgrin The Bastard:

I don't hold the bible to be pure %100 truth, though.  If you followed everything as specified in the old testament, there'd be a lot, lot, lot more violence, brutal killings, intolerance, etc.  The old testament promotes cruel behavior in the name of God.  Somehow I don't think that's the point of religion.  Even Jesus pretty much said "don't do that anymore, here's a newer, nice way."

The bible has been changed.  Fact.  I can prove it to you.  Find a protestant and a Catholic bible.  And a Mormon bible.  They're all bibles, and they all lay claim to be God's divine inspired words.  Everyone time the bible is translated, a certain amount of its meaning is lost or altered.  That happens when translating anything between two language.  The version you probably read today, how many times has it been translated from aramaic, latin, greek, or middle languages?

My church growing up (Methodist) never spoke against homosexuality, anti-evolution, and I think that was a good thing.  My church said "here is the bible.  Read it and interpret."  During my confirmation the church brought in a guest speaker who taught us all about other world religions, and never once did anyone tell us that they were wrong.  Why?  Because no human knows the direct true word of God.  To me and many others, religion is a personal experience.  Not just following a flock.

Clamps, unless you're extremely traditionalist Roman Catholic, you essentially ARE someone else's interpretation of Christianity and the bible.  How would you know if your sect added stuff on (or took it away) and screwed it up?

04:06:33 Feb 18th 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

Well, I was saying that the traditionalists are the ones who are quick to judge when some individual goes and starts saying the bible means whatever the heck they feel like saying it means =p I am fully aware of the fact that these things lose a lot in translation but some guy somewhere must have done a study suggesting that the bible was properly translated because now all the religious are saying "it has been checked, there is absolutely no difference."

Long story short I think I may have been misunderstood so:
I am not Catholic anymore (I was baptized but whatever)
I know the bible has been irreparably altered for digestion from the public and
I know that each sect of any given religion is incredibly different in their interpretations, hence "the infallible word of God" cannot, by definition, exist in that way.

04:20:37 Feb 18th 08 - Mr. Ambrosias Arilyonis:

I thought I should fire up the debate again. :P

04:49:44 Feb 18th 08 - Duke Ulgrin The Bastard:

Lol, trust me, I'm anything but a traditionalist Christian :D.

04:55:12 Feb 18th 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

It takes a lot of work to remain completely traditional with respect to the bible. The only culture of people I've ever met who REALLY tend to stick to their religion's values are Muslims. I've met tons at my school and those guys really do obey their religion, but most other people say they are something then just go ahead and act just like everyone else.

04:31:38 Feb 19th 08 - Mr. Ambrosias Arilyonis:

"The only culture of people I've ever met who REALLY tend to stick to their religion's values are Muslims."

Ooh yes! stick to the people who teach that to kill a CHRISTIAN is GOOD.

06:22:06 Feb 19th 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

Your religion says to kill adulterous women, homosexuals, disobedient children and wives and many many more. You've no right to come down on them for misguided views on killing. Besides I may have failed to make it clear but I consider all religions equally full of crap. I wasn't siding with Muslims in any way, just saying that in my limited experience they were the most obedient to the rules of their religion (which if you remember my statements on this stuff I've never considered a good thing anyway). I'm not even saying that I think that's true in general because I don't know; I haven't looked into it.

06:55:24 Feb 20th 08 - Mr. Elsin:

"Ok, i want to ask you all a simple question. What do YOU believe in? Darwinism, Neo-Darwinism, Puntcuated Equilimbrium? (Probably did not spell that right...) ect.... Everyone here is obveasly athiests..."

Yes yes. Dwarfism. Definitely Dwarfism 0.o

16:17:28 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Arvious IIII:

Clamps, I give up on you, you are hopeless, and you can't understand me, just like me trying to get you to see the truth.  -enter my previous names for you here-

22:26:21 Feb 21st 08 - Duke Ulgrin The Bastard:

Arvious, I don't really see how you've made an understandable point either.

"but evolution can be found in many places, like cars, turning from absolute goop to a cool hybrid, and houses, from tents and mud houses to brick and metal houses..."

No, that's not evolution.  Evolution is a natural process.  Each of the examples you mentioned were specifically designed and created by humans and did not ever need to "survive" in the wild.

"I tink God created evolution, but made us first...

And if we were evolved from monkeys, why do some people, like me, hate bananas?"

So... there were humans around with the dinosaurs?  When fish were adapting to be able to crawl out of water to escape predators for the first time?  Or do you believe in a young earth theory, in which case evolution would have had to occur at millions of times faster than its current rate?

You don't like bananas because you have the luxery of not eating them.  If all you had to eat were bananas, trust me, you'd like them enough to eat them.  And anyway, monkey don't eat bananas exclusively, you know.

01:59:21 Feb 22nd 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

To be clear, I understood you were saying that I was somehow "wrong" for saying a thing (that you consider a compliment) about Muslims. You gave as a counterpoint (I guess, I mean it looked like that) that it was wrong to do so because you think they kill Christians. Am I still on or have I corrupted your words?

Arvious what in the world have I misunderstood? I was even nice enough not to call you out on your obvious racism (oops). I saw you condemning a religion because it propagates murder, and told you it wasn't fair to do so when you are a vocal supporter of a religion that propagates murder as well. I don't "stick to" any religions because most of them say it is "GOOD to kill" at least someone and I think that murder is wrong.

As for your names for me: save them, I obviously don't hold your opinion of me at all worth listening to. I will say though that you did a great job growing up and getting over the name calling thing before that supposedly wise and mature history teacher. Don't go back to that nonsense now when everyone is doing so well.

03:42:08 Feb 22nd 08 - Mr. Plato:

RACISM!?!

In all my years I have never heard someone call someone that...

I'm not a racist, because my previous posts say that God will still love you no mattter what you do so...

And I only scolded people that didn't get it when I told them the truth...

16:26:24 Feb 28th 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

I said it was a racist coment to say

"Ooh yes! stick to the people who teach that to kill a CHRISTIAN is GOOD."

I don't even care what a person says about someone else's religion to be honest; I'm not easily offended. I was just pointing out that it was ignorant to say something like that when he doesn't know what is said in their book about this let alone what it means.

21:58:37 Feb 29th 08 - Mr. Ambrosias Arilyonis:

I do infact know what is said in their book, i have a sunday school teacher that has their book and has studied it. (dont ask me why...)

22:18:53 Feb 29th 08 - Mr. Clamps The Dishonoured:

You don't know why? She's a sunday school teacher, and apparently she's doing her best to be a good one. She's taking a look at a religion that worships the same god you do to get all the ideas she can on it. As for what they say about violence against non-Muslims you should ask a Muslim, not a Christian. Preferably someone who teaches about Islam too, considering Muslims are just as susceptible as Christians are to getting the point all wrong and just making up stuff that sounds right.

01:35:33 Mar 1st 08 - Mr. Ambrosias Arilyonis:

The reason we study other religions is so that we know how to deffend or oppose the acusastion against our faith. If we do not know about the persons religion, how in the world would we able to deffend ours, or oppose the religion?

22:00] Mr. Sorra: To Glad: You're the saddest, piss-poor excuse for a man I've ever seen, you chromosome-deficient, uber-impotent, rat-faced tard-popsicle. I'm not surprised you're single, you pimple-faced perpetual wedgie victim. The last time I saw something as fugly as you, I was cleaning up after my dog. I've seen better looking road kill. You're a neo-Nazi, fundamentalist militant Republican-voting mega-*beep* scumbag. Calling you a pea brain would be an insult to peas, you jellyfish-sucking mental midget. Stop bull*beep*ting about your height. A *beep*ing circus dwarf is not 'average.' Lying won't get you on the good rides in Disney. Lying about your weight again, eh? Since when did Pregnant Water Buffalo Size become 'Average'? Do you get a clearer idea of how pathetic you are, you minimum wage earning human equivalent of a bidet? I've seen wounds that were better dressed than you are. Why don't you stop gyrating that gaping misplaced *beep* of a mouth on your face for a *beep*ing minute so I can see what the *beep* a gibbering witless gimp actually looks like?

That was one classic rant....it was because Gladiator was being stupied beyond belief and some of his most retarded comments you dont even see you the post.

Now that i look back and read it, it gives me a good chuckle.

Are you on some sort of medication?

You have absolutely no idea what the hell your talking about, so befor you reply to this, you better sober up son. You might seem less of clueless A-hole that way.

19:22:16 Mar 1st 08 - Duke Ulgrin The Bastard:

"Now that i look back and read it, it gives me a good chuckle."

I bet you chuckle when you fart, too.  Now please stay on topic here.

"The reason we study other religions is so that we know how to deffend or oppose the acusastion against our faith. If we do not know about the persons religion, how in the world would we able to deffend ours, or oppose the religion?"

Let me ask you this. How many Muslims have really tried to kill you because you were Christian?  Have you ever talked to any who would?  Do you know that all Muslims would, or just certain branches?  After all, there are Christian groups out there who still think like back in the Crusades and that killing infidels earns a seat in heaven.  Would you want everyone to assume all Christians wants all Muslims dead because they heard about a few Christians who do?

And Christianity isn't always the religion that's trying to defend itself.  Christians are told that worshipping Budda means worshipping idols, when I have never heard of any Buddhists attacking Christians for the same reason.
