Barack VS McCain
05:22:40 Sep 27th 08 - Mr. Wicked Witch of The West:

Brain you dumbass. We rebuild other countries after wars that we were involved in and if we were in that country. We dont just rebuild them and call it even. THose countries are indebted to us right now. None of them have payed us back yet. So we call in their loans which is ALOT such as Iraq, Afganistan, Kuwait etc. owe us a sh*t load of money

HAHAHAHA

Do you know anything about those three countries? Kuwait already payed it's war debt you dumb *beep*(yes I can swear to don't be so proud of yourself). They payed America the 17 billion. Learn history you *beep*.

And honestly your crazy if you think we're ever getting back the  500 billion+ dollars we've put into Iraq if you think so then your messed up in the head. Great we have imaginary dollars good to know.

As for Afghanistan, hah! It's reported that a possibility of over 27,607 civilians have been killed in this war. GUess how much they owe us? 108 million. Real useful.

These wars were best for the long  term(not so much with IRaq war though) but using War Debts to justify these wars is about as retarded as it gets.

Ironiclly the 500 billion still wouldn't be able to get us out of the  9 trillion dollar ditch were in.

Probably voting for McCain, but will read up on both so that I make the decision that is best for me ;p

Charley we all have a right to be in this discussion. This decision effects us all Voters and None Voters. This election is going to change the United States dramatically.

@Wicked i cant even respond to that stupidty. You think that those are the only countries we rebuilt?Im not the one who needs a history lesson you are. Besides we have plenty of money otherwise Bush wouldnt be trying to pass a 600 Billion Dollar Package to help wallstreet which is rediculous. Those ppl need to fix it themselves instead of pointing fingers at someone who didnt cause the problems.

But since you guys think we are in so desparate need of money to get out of debt then maybe congress should stop wasting money on pointless crap. Such as 650 million dollars on car advertisments for people to feel better about a car they just bought. Or countries that build our missles and other merchandise and just build them in the US. There so much pointless sh*t congress spends money its pathetic. Especially rebuilding other ppls countries for them. let them do that themselves honestly. We did that when we first settled the original 13 colonies and look wat we have become. We are the police of the world and we are great at wat we do. Its kinda like if you give a man a fish you will feed him for a day. But if you teach how to fish you can feed him for a life time.

16:14:09 Sep 27th 08 - Mr. Brain:

@Ghost,
"[1]We did that when we first settled the original 13 colonies and look wat we have become. [2]We are the police of the world and we are great at wat we do."

1. Let me guess, France didn't lend the USA any money, did it? Of course not...

2. Who ever gave the USA that title? Nobody, but the US themselves. The UN are supposed to be the world police, getting troops and contributions from all countries, and it does.

Learn history.

17:44:01 Sep 27th 08 - Sir Soccermunches:

The UN does a horrendous job. still, it is our own choice.

anyone watch the debate? i felt it was a battle of retards, and not many of the questions were actually answered.

the financial crisis part was hilarious, he had to ask them three different versions of the same question and still not a straight answer!

wicked, simply curious. how do u feel about Obama lowering taxes almost all across the board, yet increasing universal health care and eradicating the debt in ten years? how can he possibly say that? will people donate money?

18:49:50 Sep 27th 08 - Mr. David:

USA in need of money? What kind of weird talk is that? They merely have an debt of almost 11,000,000,000,000 dollar. Nothing to worry about, right? Enough room to spend even more. Actually, if they do go through with Bush brilliant idea, they will be passing that debt.

If you are arguing on things that are above you level...ex. politics and world events, I think you need to be more learned about your own country...history classes, government classes, and other stuff in high school kind of help you out...but I don't think you have gone through all of those enough to start making arguments against other people and claim to have more knowledge.

06:36:49 Sep 28th 08 - Ms. Loz:

"The UN does a horrendous job. still, it is our own choice."

Why is the UN doing a horrendous job? It wouldn't perhaps be because it is underfunded because the US won't pay the 1.3 billion in arrears it has been under for several years until the UN conforms to US demands?  The UN is meant to represent all nations in a democratic way, not just one or two, yet the countries who hold the most power and the UNSC veto are the very ones standing in the way of reform. The world's smallest and poorest countries pay their bills even though they don't have the same voting rights. No wonder the US is seen as a bully.

12:42:14 Sep 28th 08 - Mr. Brain:

In fact, the USA have been IGNORING and going AGAINST the UN will for a while now, declaring a war without it's consent for the first time in history.
Instead, the USA uses NATO (which is pretty much controlled by the USA) to cover the UN job.
However, note that in the NATO only philo-american countries and allies are present. Not bullying, is it? Nah of course not... they're saving the world!

23:50:50 Sep 28th 08 - Mr. Rubyian:

The UN is unrealistic and the only realistic purpose it fulfills is to prevent war. The US does all the peacekeeping, disaster relief missions, food distribution, and decision making in the world. The rest of the world just sits back and blames US for everything bad that happens in the world, while they sit back and do nothing. Anybody who wants to make fun of the U.S and doesn't live in the US better have done something pretty damn important with their life or they can shut up;-)

06:37:11 Sep 29th 08 - Mr. Duca:

funny thing is that US is being policing the world for a while and the world is not safer nor wealthier (just a ridiculous small part of it).

Someone claimed to have ALL the answers, enforced them and look where are we now.....terrorism, food prices skyrocketing.

Although the "leader" of the world is not the only one to blame, since the US settled the rules....they have more responsability over the problems.

Come on guys...some of you need to think more about what you are saying. If one company is doing bad, the first neck to be cut is the leader of it...who defined the rules.

If you insist to define the rules that the world need to follow...do it thinking deeper on it, not so selfish or it will end at we are now.

Gosh, why the heck do you think terrorists exists??? DId you ever stopped to think of it????

Either way, i dont think that any possible president really could change US foreign policy...particularly the part of "rule the world"...that way of think is just out of time...name one civilization that was capable of ruling the world permanently. Not even the catholic church did it...just managed to spend some centuries there hehehe.

07:52:09 Sep 29th 08 - Mr. Duca:

by the way, obviously the foreign policy of US is not "teach them how to fish" otherwise there will be none left to buy theirs.

Hehe, I'll be on the recieving end of Nobama's plan and I still definitely hate it. I'm also jobless which would should make me lie his plan even more XP. But if he starts paying me some rich dude's money I'm definitely not gonna get a job and I'm gonna be an instant failure at life. The same goes for most other unemployed people.

05:34:18 Oct 28th 08 - Mr. Mako:

Well I'm American, and to be honest it's embarrassing to admit at times.  We've let this country goto hell, and now I doubt there's much we can do to fix it, short of a new revolution.  The government has gotten too big and wastes money in a way most people don't seem to comprehend.  Yet with all the spending we're still the only industrialized nation to not offer free health care and such.

We are the most wasteful bunch of people on the planet, and seem to believe that we can just charge everything to our credit and never have to worry.  Although perhaps with the recent stock collapse people might begin to wisen up.

Speaking of that; I do not believe we should have bailed out the banks and investment houses.  I believe the best thing for this country would have been to let the economy crash.  Sure we'd have a depression, and it would suck, but it's going to happen eventually.  Better now than to keep throwing bandaids on it, hoping we can get through another decade.

As for the people who think that we have tons of money owed to us by countries we've been at war with (Iraq for example); we will never be able to collect it, and even if we do it wouldn't even come close to what we're spending there ($2 billion a day).  In addition, there's a possibility that Iraq could sue the US for war reperations.  Though that's fairly unlikely.

We need to increase taxes, get out of Iraq, stop pissing off the rest of the world, get rid of useless government agencies and cut spending by about 70%  then perhaps one day the country will recover.

07:25:54 Oct 28th 08 - Mr. Millenium:

im canadian, what eevr .. OBAMAAAAAAAAAAAAA FTWWWW

11:35:16 Oct 28th 08 - Mr. Master Mind:

Haha not 70%, and definitely not increase taxes....

21:18:53 Oct 28th 08 - Mr. Mako:

Haha not 70%, and definitely not increase taxes....

Perhaps 70% is a bit extreme, but it certainly would be possible and effective.  However if you don't want an increase in taxes, we have to decrease spending by 50% to balance the budget so we would not be aquiring new loans.  Of course we'd still be going further into debt due to not being able to pay even the interest of loans we already have.

To start getting out of debt we'll either need to cut spending by a lot more than 50% (if no tax increases), or do some combination of the two.

Either way the government needs to cut its spending by at least 50% of what it is now; which would be fairly easy.  Nearly 25% of our spending is due to the Iraq war alone, which doesn't include the other conflicts we're involved in the area.  We could easily cut another 25% by spending in a more wise manner.

21:27:15 Oct 28th 08 - Mr. Brainiac:

yeah, make the dam criminals in the prison system do work for money...

I say BRING BACK CHAINGANGS....

2.5 million people in lock up, guess how many are in their for drug related issues 1.6 million.... maybe we should do what china did to get it's drug problem under more control.... just kill them hahahaha or at least pretend too..... Lol

No wait a even better idea exile the criminals(to Africa it'll show them how good they had it in America and wish they had been good)!!!! It would save like 50 billion dollars a year...

21:35:41 Oct 28th 08 - Mr. Mako:

I don't know about chaingangs... but we definately could use those people for something that would benefit our country.

An Obamanation! hehehe....

21:32:17 Oct 30th 08 - Lord Charley Deallus:

The Tax System - Explained With Beer
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
 The fifth would pay $1.
 The sixth would pay $3.
 The seventh would pay $7.
 The eighth would pay $12.
 The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.'Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by
roughly applying the same percentages that each man paid to the new $80.00 amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 ( 25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he g ot $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just ma y not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.

For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

22:56:18 Oct 30th 08 - Mr. Mako:

That's a great analogy, Charley.  I won't disagree that the top 1% pay most of the taxes in the US.  That said, they're also on average taxed a less percentage of income, due to many tax loop-holes, than the average US citizen.  I say tax everyone equally across the board.

What is really ironic, is that other than a brief period during the Cival War, US citizens didn't pay any federal income taxes until 1913.  Before 1913 the government opereated on taxes from corporations etc and didn't have a deficit.

23:08:59 Oct 30th 08 - Mr. Toke:

I actually cry the biggest river in the world when i read this *beep*.. Its.. like.. some of the pople here, just don't wan't to understand. Nobody want's to listen. AHA! Well I looked up the professor...and his name is apparently being used for it and he is NOT the writer of it.  This article goes under the title of "Tax Cuts: A Simple Lesson in Economics" or “Bar Stool Economics” and I cannot seem to find a writer.  It is probably just about the US tax system atm...but I am not sure...it is funny though ;p

I only assumed it was Obama because my aunt sends funny stuff to me about him.  Guess she was just making fun of America now :p

00:44:15 Oct 31st 08 - Mr. Brainiac:

well being a teach isn't exactly a high paying job, and never really has... to be a teacher you need to be commited to a "greater cause" really... that greater cause would be teaching obviously....

01:08:54 Oct 31st 08 - Mr. Josef Fritzl:

LMAO at that retarded analogy, if only economics were that simple, to bad it isn't.

To give a really simple reply to it, what if that rich guy made his money thanks due to the other 9 guys? Say he owns some store from where the others buy stuff, now that all 9 of them are broke and in debt they won't buy anything anymore as such the rich guy will lose even more than he'd lose if he paid more of the beer bill.

Simple lesson, rich people use more resources to make their money, there is nothing wrong with that, but it's only fair they pay more back, since they use more. As much as Americans freak out when Obama said that "spreading the wealth is good for everybody" that is an absolute truth.

Lets take that Joe the Plumber simpleton as an example, I'll slide over the fact that he'd get a tax cut under Obama's plan and go for the important part. If more people have more money, more people will call plumbers to fix their stuff than they'd do if they didn't have any money. The more people that call him the more money he'll make, which is vastly offset the slightly higher tax he'd pay if he were making more than 250k.

16:19:37 Oct 31st 08 - Mr. Oziiach:

Rich people already do pay more back *beep*... And if they did the work to get that much money, why should we take it all away from them to pay some bum who'd rather buy drugs than start a business? It ain't right. It truely is a socialist tool. Most people consider that a slur or something and don't take it serious but "spreading the wealth" really is a socialist strategy.

If all the rich get taxed more, they'll all have to cut back and find a way to make their businesses more profitable. The easiest way for most of them will be to send more of their jobs to Asia. Obama didn't even think about that until McCain brought it out and then he quickly added on a tax break to corporations wiht american jobs. So first he's gonna tax them dry, then he'll give them the money back for hiring Americans, so whats the point of it? All it means is more government, more paperwork, and less work actually getting done.

17:12:45 Oct 31st 08 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

In Finland we have progressive taxing, wich means that the rich people have higher taxes than the poor. We also have free educatio and health care (in other words its payed by the government). Finland has a very high BNP(per capita) considering that we only have 5,4 million people living in Finland, and that 75% of the land area is covered by forest. Not to mention that we have a rather cold climate.
Americans would call our taxing and government system communistical/socialistical and say that it s*cks. But how do they explain that Finland is such a prosperous country, considering its lack in natural resources and inhabitants?

So all the americans that are saying that obama, socialism and progressive taxing is bad, should think a little about these facts, and come to the obvious conclusion...

One more thing: I don´t understand why some people here are claiming that US is generous when they rebuild countrys after waging war against them, its them who have after all destroyed it. It should be taken for granted that they do it.

19:00:05 Oct 31st 08 - Mr. Josef Fritzl:

Only american retards think calling somebody socialist is an insult, it really shows the low level of discourse in American politics. You people should stop listening to Rush and Hannity, it would do you a world of good.

22:43:30 Oct 31st 08 - Mr. Caesar:

i hate them both

02:31:55 Nov 1st 08 - Mr. Atreides:

I don't know if I should be appalled or amused by the discussions here. It's almo*beep*nny what arguments people have against Obama's plans...and it's quite evident that they don't even know what they're arguing against. People are throwing around the word socialist as an insult...perhaps people should examine what socialism is before blindly following silly ideologies. I don't see people complaining about the firefighting department, or the library system. I don't see people complaining about free education for all...are those not socialized systems?

03:31:52 Nov 1st 08 - Mr. The Gladiator:

You work 3 times, you eat 3 times, if you dont work at all, you dont eat at all! Why listen to obama that wants to spread the wealth around....in this society not everyone is lazy and those that are rich shouldnt pay for the poor who dont work hard. Its a question of fairness. Taxing the rich to give to the poor is robery and going against the American dream!

Obama said he will give taxpayer money for free to Africa. Mccain is a better ilitary leader too, hes 72 and I think deserves to be president more than Obama. Long life to republicans and English know-how

07:47:42 Nov 1st 08 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

so according your philosphy is Robin Hood a evil socialist bas*ard, did I get that right?
Btw, are you aware of that in America poor people have almost no chances to actually get much better life and become rich, and do you know why. Because you need a lot of money to get a good education, and your chances to get rich without a good education are VERY small. In Finlandeveryone gets a good 9 year education and can get financed by the goverment to be able to study yet another 3+ years. As some wise people have said, nowadays its Finland that is the country of possibilitys, not US anymore.

14:08:56 Nov 1st 08 - Mr. Brainiac:

Uhh, we do have free education... for 13 years which speads over about 18 years. Depending on if you go to Pre-School then it would be I think like 15 years almost then.  Pre-school,Kindergarden, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th,5th,6th,7th,8th,19th,10th,11th,12th

If you're smart you can skip a grade, if your dumb you will be held back, though parents can chose to hold their children back. Nowadays we can take college clases in HIGH SCHOOL their called AP clases, and don't cost anything. If you past the AP test for that AP clase at the end of the year you will get COLLEGE CREDIT, and save about $3,000 dollars.

Our education is free, but it is when we go to COLLEGE that it costs money. Even then you can just get student loans etc etc.

Also if your a smart student you get schlorships which pay for college. Also if your good enough companys or the government will actually pay for college. My friend if going to by a form of engineer not sure, but the government payed for him to get his masters. So he didn't pay a single cent.

14:15:16 Nov 1st 08 - Mr. Brainiac:

Also stop comparing Finland to America, thats like comparing oranges and apples
