Halfling Mage

Next era, for my second era playing this game, I'm looking at challenging myself by going Halfling and also trying out magic. Does anyone have any experience of this that can lend me some advice or pointers to help me along? 


If you have any advice on how to play Halfling well, or how to use magic well that would be appreciated too.

Keep an eye on your land count. The more land you have the more expensive it gets to replace magic towers.

There's a balance to casting spells:


Here's a tip:
Keep an army handy in your mc (magic City) that you can transfer mages to. When I cast I'll check my percentage with full power first, then transfer mages into that army and check the percentage again, I do this several times until it seems like the cost of casting (loss of mages and towers) is worth the risk of the cast. Don't forget to put all of your mages back into the city once you're done.

Make sure u build more homes than u need in your production cities so u can transfer peasants into your MC constantly.


And if u want to go magic, try to not go any science first as it's quite costly if you do.

Don't use adventurers until you have reached your desired magic level. If they find other sciences it will make magic levels far too costly.

In my experience, I try to go Magic level 4 in times of war, and level 5 in times of peace. Then I go mining to 6 or 7 and then military to 5.

Magic in general costs a TON more in towers any time you have more than 9500 towers. You also get a 50% power boost if at least half of your buildings in a given city are magic towers.

Lastly, smaller cities build faster.

As such, I push for a network of 3-5 14k sized cities with 1 or 2 armories nearby (also can be 14k sized).

I build 3500 homes and 9000 magic towers. Once casting starts I max out the build but they never actually all stand at the same time.

Also any more than 20-30k MUs and the cost goes balistic. As such I recommend having 5-10k military garrison in each, full walls, and up to 70k Mus in training or in garrison. Have an army you can move them in and out of to find the highest percent for the lowest possible cost.

That's my advice and experience. Works great. But get magic first.
