Magic Questions
02:23:47 Sep 15th 11 - Princess Bloodrayne:

I have a few questions about magic, I never really learnt how to do magic well...
And I would like to learn some of these stuff like;

How much magic power is needed for a freeze? To have at least 1 tick... and how much does give 10 ticks freeze, what power? For example, this is me checking something on distance;

We have 528 magic power from this range.
If we fail the spell we will lose 13485 Illusionists!

So having 528 magic power, what does that mean, what would be the result? How much power would I need for an actual freeze?

In addition, I would like to understand the Locust spell...
Is there a way to find out how much damage you do with locust...
So you cast locust and you hinder preparation but can you know for how many ticks?
Is there some kind of calculation that could be used or what?

There is no set number for anything you asked for.

Everything has variables, Magic Casting Success rate = Your Magic power + your magic science level - Your opponets magic defense (and a bigger bonus if they are dwarves)

If you want your % to get higher, Usually Let the enemy get closer, Upgrade your magic science, Build ALOT more mages and magic towers(for distance casting)

You will only know how long your effect will last after you caste it, any other questions?

So basically you didnt say anything in your response...
Ok we wait for someone who is an experienced magic user.

20-30k power will likely get you 5-6 ticks of freeze.  For 10 days you'll need about 60k + power.

In my experience with locust, doesnt matter of the power, 1 cast = 1 day.  Could be wrong though I've never had it cast on me with more than 1 day taken per cast.

07:44:38 Sep 15th 11 - Mr. Corgi:

Woops, I did brainfart there. lol

Actually, the lowest I got for a successful 10 tick cast is 59k power, any lower and it went to 58k. (not sure what I was doing when I typed 29, Drako is right there)

29-30k will get you a 5-6 tick freeze, which often ends up being cheaper to caste two or more times than 1 ten tick freeze, if you have the luxury of fighting enemies with little or no magic protection. (and the activity)

As for 1 tick, I'd suggest 2-2.5 k still. Haven't tested lower.

Anyhow, might force tyrin to help me test the locust thing sometime. :P

I've seen it knock out 2-3 per cast before, but never though to record it, since I couldn't find out the power the enemy used. The % factor is less noticeable with low prep times, but it's there.

Edit- <3 spellcheck

**any lower and it went to 9 ticks

BL's post was the most helpful here.

One thing I forgot to mention. If you're "stretching" your range, you'll end up getting less power than your mu should give with higher costs.

You should getting .2 power per mu per magic level.  Towers give a bonus up to 50%, depending on how much of the town being casted from is comprised of them.

22:52:14 Dec 2nd 11 - kevdwayne (Mr. Vitiate):

I have a couple of questions:

1)  Is 'Bless' additive?  Meaning do multiple casts create a strength that is an addition of all casts or is it just the most recent?

2)  Is there still a 'Summon Dragon' spell?  If so at what Magic Level?

01:56:17 Dec 3rd 11 - Binh (Mr. Binh The Seer):

1. It's not additive. Most recent one count.

2. Yes, Level 9
