if so, whats the point of building them?

yes they will.
but the point is that they are most 3rd/2nd powerful troops in VU and they are not so expensive, having in mind their power.
And they are killing really not much your troops.

Yea. Who cares. It's very small attacks if it's exist at all. Never had problems with that. Your enemy will kill a way more troops than your bersekers.

beserkers pretty much wipe out your entire army if you fail a high lvl % attack like 99 but apart from that the risk is generally worth it

risk is worth it, you don't loose a lot of your troops at all.

Even victories lower than about 85% can incurr huge losses to your allies armies..
