23:45:14 Sep 13th 07 - Duke Gaius Septim II:
This is an RP Ragnarr Stormguard and I did:

Gaius Septim II was one of King Adoras's most trusted allies. Gaius he ruled the grand city of Cidel. Cidel was massive, almost as big as King Adoras's city of Nerisella, and was renowned for it's great warriors and strong willed diplomats, Gaius was both. Gaius was one his way for a meeting that King Adoras had called. This is how the story starts...
Gaius rode across down a stone road towards Nerisella. It was nearly night and Gaius was just outside the city. One hundred warriors rode behind him, two of which were his brothers, Cephorus and Calus. Gaius soon saw the stone gates of Nerisella and a guard saw him. "Another Lord eh? Go on in", said the guard. Gaius rode in and turned to the warriors. "Bartimaeus, go tell the King of our arrival", said Gaius. "Yes sir!", said Bartimaeus as he rode off... |

However, from the northern misty road for Nerisella came Ragnarr Stormguard, protector of the Northern Realm. He was ahead of his Northern Riders, a hundred elite warriors, each ready to give his life away for him. Ragnarr was holding the Wolven Banner high as the column approached the northern gate of the grand capital city.
The gates were open, guarded by the Nerisella Gold Watch - fine spearmen with gold cloaks, known for their toughness and fanatic loyalty to the old king Adoros. "Adoros, your illness will cause this realm to be consumed by the flames of war,..."thought Ragnarr to himself darkly. "Name yourself, lord." said the commander of the gate. "Sir Ragnarr Stormguard of the Northern Realm. I'm here for the Gathering." "You may enter." the commander stepped away and cleared a path into the city. The column entered... |

Bartimaeus rode up a half an hour later. "Sir, I told the King of your arrival, the meeting is still tomorrow at noon. On the way back I was approached by a Sir Ragnarr Stormguard that wanted to meet you...do you accept?", asked Bartimaeus. "Alright, doesn't hurt to make friends...where do we meet?", asked Gaius. "I am unsure right now, let me ask", said Bartimaeus as he rode off, Gaius turned to Cephorus Septim II, one of his brothers. "I have heard stories of Ragnarr Stormguard, he is a great man to his friends, but if your his enemy he will skin you alive", said Cephorus. "Then lets not get on his bad side, eh?", said Gaius as he turned to the approaching Bartimaeus. "He would like to meet you at the Inn of Good Faith", said Bartimaeus. "Alright, thank you Bartimaeus", said Gaius as he rode off to the inn, upon arriving he entered to see Ragnarr already at a table. Gaius sat down opposite him. "So your Sir Ragnarr Stormguard, I have...heard of you", said Gaius. |

Ragnarr lifts his eyes from the small glass he was holding. They were light blue, almost grey. The coldness in them reflected Ragnarr's character of a stonehearted person. "Duke Gaius Septim, I was waiting for you." Ragnarr leaned back on the wooden chair. "I have also heard about you. That is why I requested your arrivial. There are some matters we need to discuss. But not hear. Too many spies. Come, follow me." Ragnarr stood up from his chair and headed towards the exit of the tavern, Septim following him. Once outside, Ragnarr put his hood on and crossed the street. He walked quickly towards the old port of the city. When he reached the docks, he turned around and saw that Septim was behind him. The mists nearly hid them. "Duke Septim, I fear there is a plot of high treason taking place during the gathering. Here.." Ragnarr hands Septim a small parchment, stained with blood. |
You (9/1/2007 3:20:24 PM) |
Gaius lifted the parchment up to his eyes and could not read it. "It's two dark, hang on" Gaius puts his hand over it and a dim light shines over the parchment. Gaius reads it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear T, Tomorrow we will arrive at Nerisella to kill the fools Lord Ballanor, Lord Thane ,King Adoras, Lord Xarxes, Lord Felix, Lord Tallius, Sir Quellus, Duke Gaius Septim II, Lord Drager, Sir Ules, Duke Gaius Septim II, and all their men must be eliminated. We must make it quick, before anybody can find out. Our army of fifty thousand are only a day's march away, all of their bodyguards and King Adoras's troops only number two thousand, plus the nine hundred bodyguards of the Lords. It should be quite easy. Good luck, today we are Lords, tomorrow we are Kings. Your friend, B
P.S: If this message reaches hands other than your own then I have hired the messenger to curse this parchment to kill all who touch it, besides you, I, and the messenger. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gaius looked up in shock. "T and B? We have no clue who the hell that can be! And why hasn't this exploded yet?", asked Gaius. |
Ragnarr took the document and placed it somewhere in his robes. "I have no idea. The messenger's dead, and only this remains. I have ordered my warriors to be on their gaurd and report anything unusual. I also have spies on the gates of the city." Ragnarr sighed. He looked towards the dark alley that lead back to the tavern. "Best get back, for the Gathering will be soon,.." Soon Ragnarr and Septim were entering the main citadel of the capital. The iron gates were wide open before them and their personal guard. The battlements and courtyard were full of Golden Guards, all ready to protect their king. The towers and walls, white and smooth, almost created an illusion for safety. "Almost,.." thought Ragnarr as he entered. Once the two lords left their horses in the royal stables, they headed for the stairs, leading inside the halls. |
You (9/2/2007 7:46:18 AM) |
Gaius and Ragnarr walked through the open door of the castle and into the entrance hall, Gaius went straight into the throne room. The throne room was massive and made of white marble, a red carpet let up to the throne and in front of the massive white marble throne was a square table where a few of the Lords sat waiting. |
Sir Ragnarr Stormguard [MAD] (9/2/2007 12:19:29 PM) |
When Ragnarr looked around, there were familliar faces all around the hall. In the far end of the table, on a silver throne with dragons and spikes depicted on it, sat an old and white-bearded figure, leaning forward. It bore the golden crown of the Sellenian Kingdom. King Adoros was watching him and Septim enter. The whole throne room was truely magnificent and breathe-taking for those who saw it for the first time. Huge massive white-marble columns, placed on sides between huge windows, supported the roof high above them. Ragnarr saw Lord Ballaron to the left. He was a high fellow, with a black meatly trimmed beard and mustache, stone-faced, arrogant and ambitious. He would kill his own brother to gain his own. Now he was looking coolly at him. Near him, Lord Ricmorn of the East, a short man with chestnut live;y eyes, always smiling sarcasticly, was looking around. |
You (9/2/2007 12:52:52 PM) |
Salius sat down at his assigned chair, which was strangely right next to Ragnarr's, and looked around the table. Sir Ules, a noble knight of the Old Sellenian Kingdom and loyal serveant of King Adoras, Sir Ules controlled Cliff Rock and the settlement around it. Lord Felix was still conversing with Lord Xarxes, Felix was an ordinary politician, weak and pathetic, but he would never betrey the King. Lord Xarxes was a former General of King Adoras and one of the best warriors in the room, he, like Sir Ules, was fiercly loyal to his King. Lord Tallius was once a magnificent soldier, but he was weak and could no longer fight. Lord Drager was the son of the late Lord Seridius Drager, he, unlike his father, was weak and stupid. Gaius looked to see the King rise and turned to Ragnarr. "I think he's going to say something", said Gaius. |
Ragnarr nodded. "Sir Ragnarr Stormguard! I'm glad to see you here amongst us in time." Ragnarr stood up. "Thank you, your Majesty. It's an honour to be in Nerisella once again." The king nodded. He then looked around the other lords slowly. It was as if he had flames in his eyes. True, King Adoros was ill, weak and old, but he still had a charismatic aura and an iron fist in authority. "I have called you here not because I wish your company, but because we have important matters to discuss. And I expect them to be agreed on and ended with soon." The King raised his thin white hand. He was holding a golden goblet with four demonic-red rubies on the sides. All the other lords also stood up and raised their goblets and drinking horns. "May the gods watch over us and gives us wisdom to decide whats best for Sellenia." He drank. The lords did as well. Then they sat down after the king did. "As you all know, prince Aemon died in the Battle of Falconreach and left me with no apparent heirs...except Ayllera, my sixteen year old daughter,..." |
You (9/3/2007 9:14:34 AM) |
"...so she will be appointed Queen when I die. I hope she can rule as I have", said the King, "But...there is the marriage I want to discuss, the next King shall be chosen through marriage, I have chosen one of you to be the next King. I will now tell you whom my daughter has chosen...Lor-", his speech was cut short by an arrow piercing his neck. Gaius arrised and drew his sword, he looked around to see that Xarxes and Ules had run up to the king, but he was dead. Gaius turned to see that many soldiers were pouring into the hall. Gaius turned to Ragnarr. "We've gotta get outta here!", yelled Gaius. Gaius saw soldiers running up to attack Xarxes and Ules so he ran, jumped on the table, and landed on the opposite side just in time to cut the head off of the would be slayer. "Xarxes, Ules, come with me! NOW!", roared Gaius as he kicked another soldier away. Gaius ran back to Ragnarr's location to see that he was engaging two soldiers at once, he kicked one in the face, slice the other in half, and stabbed the kicked one in the heart. He saw Gaius approach... |
"Gaius, behind you!" Ragnarr jumped quickly and stabbed a warrior, who had lifted his axe high. The unfortunate lad spat blood and fell on his back heavily on the marble floor. "This is a bloody massacre!" yelled Ragnarr to Septi, as they were fighting their way to the ironwood doors. The attackers had entered through them, as well as the high windows on the sides. They had no specific uniform - black chainmail and grey cloaks, just like some random mercenaries. They seemed like veterans, judging by the way they fought. Ragnarr had little time to look around. Lord Ricmorn was fighting over king Adoros's corpse in rage and grief, but was hacked in the chest and then stabbed twice. Lord Trevled was running towards one of the windows, seeking salvation, and instead finding a cowards death - an axe flew and found his back. He couldn't see Lord Ballaron or Thane though. Lord Xarxes and Ules were behind Ragnarr and Septim, hacking and slashing at charging enemies. Other lords also joined the small group, cutting their way through. "Were the hell are the Golden Guard? And,..." He stabbed a black cloaked warrior in his way, pushing the corpse off the blade. But then his face changed from angry to stone. "Septim, Ayllera,...the only heir,...if she dissapears, that would be the end of the kingdom..." Ragnarr rasied his great sword high and hacked at an enemy, who tried to block with his shield unsuccesfully. The sword went through the wood, then through the armor, then through flesh and bone. |
You (9/3/2007 10:52:53 AM) |
Gaius hacked through a poor soldier and looked around. He saw no exits except the main one. "Ragnarr, Ules, Xarxes, follow me!", yelled Gaius as he charge the main entrance, he sliced a man in half and continued runnning, slaughtering all who would stand in his way. |
Ragnarr followed Septim, running into four of the attackers. Xarxes hacked the head off one of the intruders. Ragnarr kicked one in the chest after slashing another in the waste. Ules stabbed the other one with great force, almost forcing his hand through the bloody fellow's belly. Gaius Septim was still cutting his way through to the great doors. He wielded his sword with deadly persicion, might and elegance. He nearly reached it, leaving dead bodies on his way. Ragnarr and the other lords were fighting with the ones, coming from behind. They didn't seem to come in more numbers and not much of the grey-cloaked warriors were left. It didn't seem that such a massive number could go through the citadel's defences,..unless there was a traitor,... Even so they needed to get out. The Golden Guard would deal with them later as soon as they were told. Ragnarr ran near to Gaius Septim, who was now fighting the warriors at the doors. They were about fifteen, but more were coming up the stairs - Ragnarr heard more voices from the distance. Or were they guards, coming to help? There was no time to think about that. There were people infront of him, who wanted to kill him. Xarxes and Ules also came beside him and Septim, quickly killing off the grey cloak warriors. Some more lords were behind, holding off the attackers from the back. After a lot of hacks and slashes, dodges and parries, they made it through. There were still warriors from behinf, fighting with some lords who didn't manage to join their group. And now, more voices, armor rattle and steps were heard from the main stairs. Were they Golden Guards or yet more enemies?... |
You (9/3/2007 4:32:53 PM) |
About ten of Gaius's men, fifteen of Ragnarr's, and a mixture of other Lord's bodyguards ran up the stairs, many enemies followed. Gaius chopped through one and saw his most trusted soldier, Bartimaeus, hacking through a soldier, Gaius chopped through another soldier and turned to Bartimaeus. "Bartimaeus! What is the situation outside?", asked Gaius. "Sir! There is fighting in the streets! The Golden Guard is locked in combat with strange gray cloaked soldiers, one guard said they were from Lord Thane and Lord Bellanor", said Bartimaeus. Gaius turned to Ragnarr. "What ideas do you have?" |
"Let's kill off these bastards and go to Ayllera's chambers. If she's safe..." Ragnarr slashed his great sword through a grey warrior. "...then king Adoros's will shall be done." Ragnarr stabbed an agile attacker, who managed to dodge the sword three times, but wasn't so lucky the forth. "Gaius, we need to get her out of here. They clearly outnumber us. The Golden Guards.." Ragnarr hacked a grey-cloaked warrior in the chest. "..The Golden Guard has been caught by surprize, and so have we. We need to get her out of Nerisella to a safe place. Then,.." Ragnarr dodged an axe and returned a slash, this one deadly. "Then we can raise the banners of war and gather the armies to retake the city." Ragnarr kicked a near-by attacker in the knee, then slashed his head off. "But now, we must find Ayllera. Follow me to her chambers." Ragnarr started going down the stairs, passing by dead bodies and cutting his way through grey-cloaked warriors. |
You (9/4/2007 7:34:41 AM) |
Gaius jumped down the stairs and dropkicked a poor enemy in the face, sending him flying backwards into a group of his fellow soldiers. Gaius stabbed one, stabbed another, and curbstomped the third one. Gaius kept running, Ragnarr, Ules, Xarxes, and a group of their men behind him. Gaius finally reached Ayllera's chambers and found that the door was locked. "STAND BACK!", he yelled as he kicked the door open. He looked around to see a group of soldiers, he slashed at one, but he dodged and stabbed at Gaius, Gaius jumped sideways and sliced him in half. He roundhouse kicked another into the wall and stabbed him in the chest and looked to see that Ragnarr and the others had already killed the rest. "Ayllera! Are you here!? We are friends!", said Gaius. A woman suddenly ran out from under the bed. "I am Ayllera, daughter of King Adoras! What happened?", she asked. "We have tratiors in our midst, your father is dead, you need to come with us!", said Gaius. "Fine...I will come", she said. |
Ayllera was sixteen years old and pretty. She had long curly chestnut hair and a lovely face. She had white skin and emerald green eyes. The princess quickly put on a white travelling cloak and took a fine Elven Longbow from somewhere, as well as arrows, When one of Ragnarr's men looked at her equipment curriously, she explained. "I have used a bow in hunts and better to have something to protect myself with,..." "M'lay, we must leave now." said Ragnarr and left the room with his sword ready in his hands. Septim was beside him, as well as Ules and Xarxes. Behind followed Ayllera and the other lords and warriors, surrounding her for her own safety. After engaging a few groups of grey cloaked warriors, who were left dead on the marble floors, Gaius, Ragnarr and the others reached a small tower. It had stairs down to the courtyard of the citadel. But when Ragnarr looked out the window, he didn't see the calm cobblestone courtyard with columns at the sides, stables and patrolling Gold cloaks, but a batlefield. The ground was in blood pools and dead bodies of Golden Guards and Grey Warriors. There were still men fighting there. When Ragnarr turned his head up to the sky, just before going down the stairs, he saw columns of smoke, rising high above the city. Nerisella was in the flames of battle... |
You (9/4/2007 8:11:13 AM) |
Gaius ran down the stairs with the others behind him, they got to the bottom where a gray warrior awaited, Gaius effortlessly cut his head off and continued running, he checked and saw that the others were still behind him and kept running, he got to the courtyard entrance and looked out, three gray archers sat on the roof. Gaius turned to Ayllera. "May I borrow your bow for just a moment?", asked Gaius. "Of course", said Ayllera as she passed her bow to Gaius. Gaius grabbed an arrow and aimed at one of the archers, he fired and the archer stood up with an arrow in his neck, he fell from the roof and into the courtyard. Before the other archer could do a thing Gaius fired again, striking him in the eye, he fell backwards and let out a yell. Gaius aimed at the third one and fired, it struck him in the heart and he died immediately. Gaius passed the bow back to Ayllera. "Stay down and keep your eyes peeled", said Gaius as he went through the courtyard, on the way out Gaius saw a Lord, still alive, hiding behind a statue. "They had me there for a while! Thank the Gods you guys came around", said the Lord. "What's your name?", asked Gaius. "Lord Gorris Farilor of Rellos", said Gorris. "I believe I have heard of you", said Gaius. "So you should have! He was one of my best Colonels in the old army!", said Xarxes. "Come with us! We need to go!", said Gaius. "Fine, lead the way!", said Gorris. Gaius led the small group to the entrance to find it was locked shut. "Damn! It's locked!", said Gaius. "Don't worry, I have a key, found it on a dead guard", said Gorris as he opened the gate... |
Ragnarr turned to Gaius. "First we need to take horses from the stables." He then turned to princess Ayllera. "M'lady, I understand your grief over your father's death. He was a great king who ruled the realm wisely. But understand we, must leave this city. It is for your own safety." As some men went to bring the horses, Ragnarr rallied some Gold Cloaks and explained to them the situation. As the Golden Guard, sworn to defend the King's family, they joined the group. Soon all were on the horses, ready to go. Ragnarr himself mounted his black horse and rode outside alone with two Golden Guards. They crossed the small bridge over the moat. Ragnarr looked into the distance of the main street to convince himself that there were no enemies hidden, ready to ambush them. The road was covered in bodies, broken weapons and shields. The building around were burning. They seemed abandoned. In the distance, the sound of battle could be heard. Ragnarr looked at Gaius, who was ready to lead the princess and the rest outside. "It's clear. There seem to be n.." An arrow pierced Ragnarr in the back... |
Gaius jumped off his horse. "Bartimaeus! Shield the princess!", ordered Gaius as he drew his sword. He checked Ragnarr, he was still alive. Gaius turned to Bartimaeus, whom was now shieldin*beep*llera behind him. "Go now! Take her!", ordered Gaius. Bartimaeus jumped on a horse with Ayllera. "Meet at the Faltor Inn! Go now!", yelled Gaius. Bartmaeus took off and Gaius grabbed a bow from a guard, he aimed at the archer and fired, it hit the archer in the neck. Gaius aimed and fired again, it hit another in the cheek. Gaius turned towards Xarxes, Ules, and Gorris. "Go! Meet at the Faltor Inn!", ordered Gaius. The other Lords took off and Gaius turned to the Golden Guard. "Split up and meet us back at the Faltor Inn", ordered Gaius. The Golden Guard took off and Gaius ran over to Ragnarr. He jumped on the horse and took off with Ragnarr behind him, he soon left the city and went to a small farm, he walked into the house where a small family sat inside. "Citizens! I am in need of medical supplies for the good of the Sellenian Kingdom!", said Gaius. A large man that must have been the father ran into the kitchen and ran back with a small box, he placed it in front of Gaius. "I don't know how to use those", said the man. "I know how to", said Gaius as he started working on getting the arrow out of Ragnarr's back, he soon got it out and set some powder into the wound that was labeled "Anti-Infection". Gaius wrapped the wound in cloth and helped Ragnarr up. "Thank you citizens. Take this gold", said Gaius as he set a reasonable anount of gold on the table and left, he helped Ragnarr up onto the horse and jumped on, they headed off... |
Ragnarr slowly started to see clearly. He realized they were not in Nerisella. He noticed he was riding his black horse after Gaius Septim to the north-east. Ragnarr started touching his body to check if all is with him. He felt relief when he felt the sword hilt and noticed that he had bandages under his clothes and armor. Ragnarr spurred his horse and caught up with Gaius. "My mind is blurred and I don't remember clearly what exactly happened. But,...thank you, Gaius." Septim exlplained to Ragnarr what happened and what they were supposed to do. Right now they were heading to the Faltor Inn on the crossroad in the north-east. They rode until the morning sun showed and lit the sky with a winderful sunrise, enspiring hope and faith. The Faltor Inn was just beside the road. It was a two-level building with a nice red roof and stone and timber walls. It was quite famous, for many people passed through this crossroad. But now, it seemed empty. Even the roads were lacking the usual crowd. Gaius Septim and Ragnarr left their horses in the small stable and entered the inn. Inside it looked like the usual tavern one would see in Nerisella. The main hall was a bar, with wooden tables, chairs and a bar. There were some stairs leading up to the rooms and a large fireplace, creating a fine atmosphere. Right now, several Golden Guards were sitting infront of it along with a few of Ragnarr's, Gaius's, Ules's and Xarxes's personal bodyguard. They stood up when they saw the two lords enter. "Where are the rest?" asked Gaius quickly. "Up stairs, m'lord. Resting. We rode all night. Some of us where chased and we have wounded. Once the visitors saw us, they ran away, along with the barkeep and all." "Princess Ayllera, is she alright?" asked Ragnarr. "No, m'lord. Gorris killed five grey-cloaked knights who were after her." Ragnarr nodded and sat heavily on a near by chair. Gaius also sat down. "We must send crows to carry messages to the armies. This is civil war, damn it. And I am almost sure that the Golden Guard commander, Sir Alexi, was right when he said the ones behind are Thane and Ballaron...." "I was fighting my way through the city to exit it, m'lord." said a Gold Cloak. "Some of my brother guards joined me. We fought with SIr Alexi against the enemies. In the end, some knights in red cloaks and a coat of arms with a griffin charged. That's when commander Alexi died." Ragnarr's hand formed a firm fist. "Damn it, Lord Ballaron's griffin,..." |
Gaius sat down at the fireplace and looked at the dancing flames, he soon got up and went to bed, Ragnarr did the same. Dreams of death overwhelmed his mind all night, when he woke up he went downstairs and saw that Bartimaeus was awake sitting next to Ayllera, Xarxes, Ules, and Gorris. "Bartimaeus, did my brother, Cephorus, make it out alive?", asked Gaius weakly. "I'm sorry sir, but I don't know, I didn't see him after we left to leave to the meeting", said Bartimaeus. "Alright, so what should we d-", he was cut off by a loud noise outside. Gaius drew his sword and ran to the windows to see about sixty enemies approaching. "Enemies! Get ready!", said Gaius. |
"Damn! Get the horses ready and take Ayllera out of here,..." Ragnarr's speech was interupted by Lord Gorris. "We can't. We're surrounded. They're coming too fast,..." Gaius Septim raised his sword above his head. "Golden Guards, go up and stay with the princess. You four.." Gaius pointed four of his own men, armed with longbows." Go up and take positions at the windwos. Fire at will. If things get bad here, come back,..." While Gaius was giving orders, Ragnarr and some other men were preparing the hall for tha battle - barricades, weapons, health potions. Ragnarr pointed at two of his best men - large lads with heavy axes. "Thorgard, Ricmorn, guard the stairs at all costs. The rest - we'll wait for them to come inside. We have e better chance so than in open field."...
Gaius stood ready next to Ragnarr on the lower story of the inn. Gaius starts to hear arrows being loosed in the upper story, a few seconds later the door bursts open and enemies pour in, Gaius stabs one, pulls his blade out, and cuts another's head off, he spins around and kills three men. |
"STORMGUARD!" shouted Ragnarr as he jumped into the fight with his great-sword raised high above his head. He landed infront of a knight with a red cape and red feathers on his helm. The knight didn't even know what came for him, as Ragnarr's sword cut his shoulder down to his chest. Ragnarr struggled a bit to pull his sword out, kicking an attacker in the chest meanwhile. He released his blade from the heavy corpse and cut the kicked attacker;s head off. Then he ducked from a swooshing mace above his head an made a low slash, tearing two warrior's chain-male armors and bellies. Ragnarr used the short moment to look around him. Gaius Septim was wielding his blade deadly among the enemies. Obviously bot of them were holding off the main. Gorris threw a bottle of old wine in the face of some red-caped warrior, coming through the window and after that taking his head. Golden Guards and Ragnarr's axemen were holding off the enemies from the stairs. Their bodyguard warriors were all around, fighting the outnumbering force, besieging the inn. Ragnarr dodged a blade, coming for his chest and stabbed the enemy through his armor. He then slashed towards two others, cutting one's neck and the others chest. As he was fighting, Ragnarr noticed something strange. He looked around for a second, while parrying a sword and saw the southern wall was in flames... |
Gaius kicked a man to the ground and stabbed him in the chest, he then noticed smoke and saw that the inn was in flames, they were burning it. "EVERYBODY OUT...NOW!", yelled Gaius as he ran up the stairs to Ayllera's room, he opened the door to see her sitting in the corner with ten golden guards pointing their spears at the door. "The Inn is on fire, we must leave", said Gaius. "On fire? Alright, lets go", said Ayllera Gaius, Ayllera, and the golden guards ran down the stairs and out the doors to see Ragnarr, Ules, Xarxes, and the rest of the men tied up in front of the twenty remaining enemies. "Ahhhhhhh, Gaius Septim II and the lovely Ayllera, here at last", said the commanding officer as ten men moved to surround Gaius. Gaius raised his arm and lowered it and suddenly an arrow zoomed out of the nearby forest and caught the commanding officer in the throat, Gaius grabbed his sword and stabbed a man in the chest, the golden guards were protectin*beep*llera so Gaius ran over to Ragnarr and the others and untied him. After a large amount of killing Gaius, Ragnarr, and the others looked around. Bartimaeus and Cephorus Septim came from the trees. "So you were the ones firing the arrows!", said Gaius... |
Ragnarr cleaned his great-sword slowly with a piece of blooded cloth. "Thank you for that, lads. But now I suggest we move out of here quickly before more red-capes come. They won't ever let Ayllera slip through their hands, since they need her. Most probably this was the scouting wave we just dealt with,..." "Fine, but let's first burry the dead and heal the wounded and at night we can leave." said Gaius Septim. Ragnarr nodded. "Fine. I'll be back in a moment." Everyone minded their business. Ayllera and some gold-cloaks were tending the wounded. Gorris and Ules were studying the local map, searching the quickest way out of the capital province. Xarxes and the rest of the lifeguards were burrying the dead that didn't burn in the fire. Gaius said the prayers over their lonely cold graves. Ragnarr had entered the nearby forest and had found a century old Keldwood tree. He knelt infront of it, holding his sword, leaning on it gently, and bent his head for a silent prayer to the old northern gods. The sun was almost away as the night slowly took over. The sky was heavy with grey clouds, almost matching the mood of everyone. It started to rain gently. The Golden Guards were helpin*beep*llera mount her horse. Gaius and the other lords were already on their mounts, discussing where to go next. Around them, about twenty warriors - the remains of the lifeguards - were readying for the cold journey. "Ragnarr, what do you think?" asked Gaius. Ragnarr realized that he was being inclueded in the conversation. "What?...." he asked..... |
"Eh, nevermind", said Gaius as he mounted his horse next to his brother, Cephorus. "In case we split up we are headed to Xarxes's home city of Carallia, there he can gather his army and make preparations while we get food and provisions, Ayllera can stay with him under the protection of the remaining Golden Guards while Ules, Ragnarr, Gorris, and I go out and gather our respective armies. With our combined force the tratiorous Lords will not stand a chance, alright, lets go!", yelled Gaius as he charged off, the others followed him... |
Ragnarr nodded grimly. He mounted his black horse, pulled on his hood and spurred his mount after the rest. The rain grew harder and heavier, whipping against the travellers' helms and cloaks. A slight breeze also came up, but not strong enough to make the journey tedeous. In order to reach Carallia, they needed to pass over Hueword Bridge, passing above the River of Kings. It was not far away, yet Ragnarr could almost feel a trap there. Then they had to pass over hilly ground, covered in oak forests and small lakes. Once they reached that, they were safe from the red-capes, but not from bloody brigands,... The travellers rode all night. The rain stopped at early sunrise, yet a dense fog came in it's place. One of Gaius's brothers had an exceptional eagle-eyed vision and was at front. After the first rays of light touched them, he spoke. "The bridge is before us. But it's guarded with ten swordsmen, a few crossbow men at the small pallisade on the other side and a few pikemen. There seemes to be a nobleman there. Obviously, they were expecting us,..." "Damn." said Gaius sharply. Ragnarr strokes his trimmed beard. "A frontal attack would be what they are expecting us to do." Gaius turned towards Ragnarr. "Yes, and the river is too fast to cross here by boat, and we can't manuvere around with a whole army on our tail,..." Gorris snorted. "Can't we just kill 'em off with sharpshooters? They can't see us, but we see them." The idea was simple. Ragnarr liked it,... Bartimaeus and Cephorus, as well as a gold-cloak with a crossbow and two of Ragnarr's men with longbows took position on the top of the hill in front of the bridge. They lay down so the defenders couldn't see them. They waited to see the patrol patterns. Then Barimaeus sent the first arrow. The defenders had no chanse at all. A surprize attack with arrows always beats tired swordsmen who don't even know what came for them. "Let's go." said Gaius. And all followed him to the bridge. They slowly rode over the old cobblestone path, when suddenly, Kormac, one of Ragnarr's men at the back of the column spoke quietly. "Red war banners behind us. We're located!"... |
Everybody rides towards the bridge, trying to outrun the enemies, they soon come to a bridge and an arrow hits Ragnarr in the leg. Ragnarr falls from his horse and stands up. "Gaius, I will...hold them off, my men, lets show them what the Northerners can do!", said Ragnarr as he drew his sword. "Ragnarr, I cannot le-", Gaius was cut off. "Gaius...go! Take her! THERE IS NO TIME!!!"
Ragnarr closed his eyes for a fraction of a second. "Odinn almighty, give me strength..." thought Ragnarr. They had no chances at all. But Ayllera had now. "Lads, form behind me! Raise bloody shields!" yelled Ragnarr at the ten northmen behind him. They were all part of the elite Northern Riders - wolven warriors, sworn to fight with their lord to the last. They were all ready to fight. They were all ready to die. Ragnarr looked one last time at the galloping horses of Ayllera, Gaius and the rest. He turned towards the attacking enemy. The dense fog hid the vast army and arrows were shooting through in all directions. Towards them, at least a hundred swordsmen were running. Behind them he could see marching knights and pikemen. The wind grew stronger. "STORMGUARD!" shouted Ragnarr. He raised his great-sword Darklighter high above his head and charged the attackers. "Stormguard!" echoed the Northern warriors and charged off after their lord. "Odinn, grant me with might..." prayed Ragnarr quietly as he slashed at the first swordsman, who died at the instant. "..and courage. Grant me a clean warrior's death..." Ragnarr dodged a mace and stabbed it's wielder with such might, that he stabbed the man behind him. "...so I can meet my comrades in the halls of Valhalla." Ragnarr slashed again after jumping away from a stabbing sword and cut off a red-cape's head off and cut another's chest open. "Aarh!" Kormac, Ragnarr's closest war comrade, collapsed on the ground with a wound gashing on his shoulder and chest. A red-cape warrior then quickly finished him by cutting his head off. "BASTARDS! shouted Ragnarr and spun in a deadly siral, killing or wounding all around. For an instant he realized that he and two of his axemen were the only ones left. Ragnarr looked towards the horizon to where Gaius and Ayllera escaped for the last time. Then three arrows found his arm and belly. A kick came from in front of him. He slashed one last time before someone's weapon hit him bluntly on the head. Ragnarr Stormguard lost consiousness and collapsed among his dead comrades on the blooded cobblestone. ... "Addel?" asked Ragnarr. She was standing infront of him. He had left her in the north to go to Nerisella , with the hope to marry her after his return. and never saw her after. She was the only person that brought warmth in his cold heart. Ragnarr reached out with his hand and stroked her white-golden hair. She was a beauty. And they loved each other. And then it all dissapeared. ... Ragnarr opened his eyes. He nearly jumped from were he was laying. He looked aroundd. Darkness. "Bloody dream,..." he thought darkly. He touched his body were he recalled being hit. The wounds were still fresh, but had been tended. Suddenly, he fealt a terrible ache pounding and pulsing in his head. A faint sound of metalic rattle sounded. Ragnarr noticed a small window in the black darkness from which the light of a torch entered. "Oh Gods, spare me this. Everything but captivity,...." All Ragnarr wanted was a clean warrior's death.... |
Gaius soon arrived in Xarxes's city, he had felt horrible for what he had done, but Ragnarr's wish was that Ayllera stays safe, and that is what he intended to do. "Lord Antonis Xarxes, do you swear to keep Queen Ayllera safe from all evils in my leave?", asked Gaius. "I do, Gaius, I do", said Xarxes. "Alright, Ules, Gorris, go to your cities, raise an army, in a month we attack and take back the Queen's birthright!", said Gaius.
Everybody rode off in different directions, Ules took off East, Gorris took to the West, Gaius went south, Bartimaeus, Cephorus, and his ten other remaining men followed, two days they rode before coming upon the grand Septim City. They rode in and a small man ran up. "Lord Septim! You're back!? Thank the Gods, there had been news of a massacre!", said the man. "There has been, Darilus, but I and a few others survived, in two weeks we shall set out with my full army to take back the capital, ready the men", said Gaius. "Yes sir!", said the man happily as he ran off... |
... Lord Thoren Keldwind was in charge of the northern city Stormguard while his lord was away. It was an easy job, especially after the construction of the northern wall to hold off barbaric warlike people. After the Battle of Eilemitta, an unstable ceasefire was made and the private wars between the lords ended. And then, Ragnarr went off south to the king's calling. That meant peace. And that was what Lord Keldwind wanted. A soft knock sounded on the door. "Enter." said Thoren, looking at the warm flames in the fireplace. A warrior entered. His cloak was wet and snowy. Obviously tired from long travel. "M'lord, this came from the south. I was told to give it to you personally." Lord Keldwind opened the parchment slowly. He read it's contents. Then he read it again to make sure that what he thought he read was true. "...raise the banners of war,...." he said as he threw the letter in the flames. ... Lord Ules travelled long to the east but finally reached his destination. He was happy to see his beloved city again and for a moment forgot all that happened back in the west. In his dreams he still saw the arrow, hitting King Adoros and the red stream gushing out after... Karthyme was his city. It was a large town on the banks of river Karth. Small olive tree forests surrounded the city. It's citadel was further east on a hill, overlooking the whole plain. Ules reached the white-stone west gate. It was open, since a flow of traders was entering. "Halt, what be yer business?" asked a fat spearman with small pig-like eyes. "Do you not recognise your own lord?" asked Lord Ules sharply, coming closer so that he could be recognised. The spearman stared into his face and suddenly stood upstraight. "M'lord, forgive me...we heard what happened..." "Never mind. Get me guards so I could reach the citadel. And sound the horns. There is a war going on..." ... Ragnarr was laying in the corner on some hay, leaning his back on the cold stone wall. He barely could move, since he had a deep wound in his right leg. It was constalntly dark. Only from time to time a small light passed by the cell-door window, of which Ragnarr was truely greatful. The guard rarely gave him a thin soup, which Ragnarr even more rarely ate. He wondered what was worse - sleeping or being awake. Horrible memories haunted his dreams. He saw from time to time Addel, but could never speak with her, nor reach her. When he was awake, there was just the dark wall on the other side. The Gods had forgotten him. He had no idea how much time passed like that. But after what he felt like centuries, he heard key rattle and a silent creek. Someone was opening the door... |
Lord Gorris Farilor reached his city soon after Ules and Gaius, he reached the stone gate and rode grandly towards the castle where the cheers of many happy people echoed throughout the streets. He soon reached his castle and walked through the door where his steward ran up to him. "Milord! We thought you were dead!", said the steward. "I would be dead were it not for the heroism of Ragnarr Stormguard and Gaius Septim, Lord Thane and Lord Ballanor assassinated the King and took over his Kingdom, prepare the army, for we attack the capital in a few week's time", said Gorris...
Soon the armies were all roused and off to Nerisella to take back the kingdom. For a week they travelled and soon Nerisella was in sight again, they all hoped Ragnarr was still alive... |
The day was bound to be clear and sunny, yet early the morning a thin mist covered the land. The streets of Nerisella were cold and foggy. Even after the fierce street battles in the capital city between the Golden Guards and Lord Ballanor's men, life was still going on for the normal citizens. Trade carts rolled clumsyly over the wet cobble stone roads. Lord Thane was looking out from the large window of the throne room. Several armies with the banners of different lords had gathered at the walls of Nerisella. Lord Ballaron was walking nervously about. "I can't believe they slipped through our hands! What the hell went wrong!? If we killed them all, they were bound to bend their heads in front of us,..." Lord Thane raised his thin hand. "Silence now, we need to think clearly. What happened to Lord Stormguard? Is he still below in shackles or has he rotten already?" ... "Stand up, northman. It's time." Ragnarr looked at the dark figure. In the vague light he recognized the red cape of the guard. He tried to stand but couldn't. He had no strength. Two guards were forced to support Ragnarr as he limped out of his cell to meet his fate. ... At midday, the armies outside the walls had started to settle and prepare for their future attack. But inside Nerisella, a different thing was happening. A small wooden platform was quickly built in front of the citadel on Goldsire Square. Lord Thane and Ballanor, as well as lesset lords and knights were in a majestic pavillion in front of the gates, overlooking the platform. A huge crowd had gathered to watch what would happen - anything different from everyday life always seemed interesting and entertaining. Red-cape guards held the crowd off from reaching too close. Lord Thane stood up then. "Bring the traitor." The crowd yelled out. Most people were cheering that the "traitor" would be killed, even though that most didn't even why or who was Ragnarr. Small-talk myths always described northmen as evil barbarians, bound on mercyless destruction. Red-caped guards brought a thin figure up the platform. Ragnarr Stormguard, lord of the Northern Realm, was barely walking. His skin was very pale, his blonde hair longer than usual. The guards had trimmed his beard and mustache though and even given him a clean white tunic with a white wolf on it. "This man, Ragnarr Stormguard, has been found guilty of high treason against the crown by kidnapping princess Ayllera and trying to murder her, as well as killing our beloved king, Adoros Steelsong." An angry supporting yell came from the large crowd. "Lord Stormguard, do you confess your guilt?" asked Lord Ballaron. Ragnarr raised his head slowly. "You do not represent the king's justice. You were the ones who..." The guard kicked Ragnarr so he could tell no more. "Very well. Sir Rolland the Just, give him the king's justice. Take his head." grinned Lord Ballaron. The crowd sounded a cheerful yell. Sir Rolland, who was quietly standing on the platform, approached Ragnarr. He took out his long-sword and raised it high above his head. Lord Thane's face became pale and whispered something to Ballaron, who in return laughed and spat. "This was not what we planned.." was saying Thane quietly. Ballaron wouldn't listen. The guards dropped Ragnarr on wooden ground. He fell powerless on his knees. HIs lips moved slowly, saying a last prayer to the old gods. He placed his head on the stone blooded block before him. The sword struck. The crowd screamed happily. Lord Stormguard was dead. ... Lord Thane and Lord Ballaron quickly left the square to organize the defence of the city. |
Gaius lead his army to the south gate of Nerisella, Lord Xarxes led his to the west, Lord Gorris Farilor led his to the east, and Ragnarr's army went to the north. Gaius found resistance at the South Gate as over a thousand soldiers came out. "ATTACK!!!", yelled Gaius, he ran at the soldiers and drew two blades, he blocked a blow with one and stabbed a man with the other, he spun around and deflected several blows before decapitating two men. He then chopped the legs out from under a grey cloak and stabbed him in the neck. His men fought just as bravely. Soon they had defeated all of the men and ran into the gates where a single man stood. "Gaius Septim II, I am Lord Thane", said the man, Gaius readied his sword but the man raised his hand, "WAIT! I have a proposition for you, I wish to defect, Lord Ballanor is...evil, I never wished it to happen, I tried to stop it, but he killed Lord Stormguard", said Thane. "Ragnarr's dead?! Dang, we were too late! So what is the proposition?!", yelled Gaius with anger in his voice. "I am going to defect to your side, my men will follow and fight Lord Ballanor", said Thane. "Alright, where are your men?", asked Gaius. "They are at the palace, I will meet you there", and with that Lord Thane strided away. Gaius made a gesture and ran, his men followed him... |
"After me!" yelled Lord Thoren Keldwind before galloping towards the broken by trebuchet-missile ironwood gate. A lot of riders followed him, and after that a lot of warriors on foot. The Northern army was charging the northern gate of Nerisella. Thoren's horse leaped over the remains of the gate and landed in front of a formation of confused spearmen, still regrouping. He struck his axe into the head of the closest enemy and continued forward, with his men behind. The battle for the northern gate was short and bloody, with casualties on both sides. Thoren was giving orders to the army, entering the city, when Sir Shieldheart aproached him. "Lord, we found the commander of the Gold Cloaks, Alexi. He's badly wounded, but wants a word with you." Thoren nodded. "Fine. Let me see him before we continue." Alexi was leaning on a half-broken stone wall near by, supported by a northman. He had a bad wound on his head and chest. He coughed. "Commander Alexi! We thought you were dead. But make it quick, we need to commense our attack." "Lord Stormguard is dead. All of his bodyguards are dead as well. The city's defence is spread thin, since Nerisella is attacked from all sides." Alexi coughed. "See that Alexi is taken care of..." said Thoren. He then raised his sword and turned to the warriors. "Our lord is dead by the traitors! Onward! Let's have our revenge!" He lead the army further inside Nerisella... |
Gaius ran through the streets, men were fighting everywhere he ran, a large chunk of wood from one of the roofs barely missed his head. He ran and ran with Bartimaeus and Cephorus behind him, he tripped a man with one of his swords and stabbed him in the stomach, he then picked up a man with one arm and stabbed him in the neck, he then threw the lifeless corpse to the ground. "To the palace men! Not much time to lose!", said Gaius as he charged, he seemed to hack through a countless number of soldiers, getting many cuts and scratches in the process, before reaching the palace of the late King, Lord Thane stood there with around a hundred men, twenty of which were trying to take down the door "Septim, not much time to lose! Lord Ballanor is inside and preparing to escape!", yelled Thane as he turned to the now down door. "CHARGE!!!", yelled Thane as he ran in, Gaius and his men followed. Gaius walked through the very stone walls he had been in several weeks before, before the assassination. "Search the castle!", said Gaius to his men, "Bartimaeus, Cephorus, follow me", he then walked into the throne room. The stone table used for the meeting was now gone and the throne was occupied by a man in black armor that Gaius immediately recognised as Lord Ballanor. "Gaius Septim II! Curious seeing you here!", said the man. "Lord Ballanor, I do not wish to speak to scum as low as yourself, I just hope that you suffer in the afterlife for the crimes you have commited, now let us end this", said Gaius, he drew his twin blades and readied himself, Lord Ballanor rose and drew a blade. "Fine Gaius, if fighting is the only way to solve this", said Ballanor as he charge Gaius, Gaius deflected two blows, Bartimaeus and Cephorus joined in and Ballanor ran into a room, Gaius followed him, the doors shut and locked themselves so Bartimaeus and Cephorus could only sit and wait.
Gaius ran into the room and turned to see the doors shut, he looked forward to see Lord Ballanor standing in front of him. "Now we can have...a fair fight", said Ballanor as he drew a second blade. Ballanor charged Gaius and Gaius rolled under an attack, Gaius then turned and chopped down at Ballanor, barely missing his back, Ballanor turned and slashed backwards, leaving a long gash on Gaius's face. "Hahaha! Gaius, I expected a better swordsman out of you!", yelled Ballanor as he kicked Gaius to the ground. Ballanor strided forwards casually and rose his sword in the air. "Goodbye Gaius Septim, say hello to Ragnarr for me", said Ballanor as he brought his sword down, it was blocked by another blade. "No Lord Ballanor, I will not let you kill another", said a voice that Gaius recognised to be Lord Thane's. Thane threw an uppercut at Ballanor, sending him backwards, he then helped Gaius up. Ballanor readied his blades and charged at the two Lords, Gaius blocked the blows and Thane stabbed Ballanor in the chest. Ballanor looked up in shock. "T-Thane...we...had an alliance!", gurgled Ballanor. Thane kicked Ballanor to the ground. "The alliance is cancelled", said Thane as he stabbed Ballanor in the heart. Thane turned to Gaius. "Lets go, I believe the Queen would enjoy to sit on her throne", said Thane as he walked from the room with Gaius...
A few hours later Ayllera was coronated as Queen Ayllera of Nerisella. She forgave Thane for his crimes and gave Ragnarr a hero's funeral. Soon after Lord Thane, Gaius Septim II, Lord Xarxes, Sir Ules, Lord Gorris Farilor, Lord Keldwind, and several other Lords joined under her to recreate the Sellenian Kingdom. The lands were united at last. |
