18:57:14 May 6th 09 - Prince Validus Septim III: Alright, this is for the new people with little skill in English, please listen carefully. Tip #1 Tip #2 Tip #3 Tip #4 Those should help for now, I will come up with more later.
19:34:35 May 6th 09 - Sir Karzun Demonsul: I'll build on this...
20:13:27 May 6th 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley: Some person input about Septim's tips... "Tip #1 Grammar can make or break an RP. If I open a topic and it looks like a 12 year old wrote it, I won't bother getting a headache reading it. I will ignore it as just a crappy idea. Grammar is something I always stressed about in the past. USE SPELL CHECK. It can make everything you say and write much more understandable and you do not have to tear out your eyes because the writing is so bad. For non-English people, PLEASE use spellcheck. Get Firefox, get Internet Explorer with the Google Toolbar(it has spellcheck), just don't ignore it and get pissed at people for pointing out bad grammar. "Tip #2 I personally found much of my inspiration coming from many of the hundreds of books I read, and I am not even considered a nerd or w/e you want to call it. Medieval fantasy, murder mystery, future sci-fi, modern non-fiction, and more can all add to your imagination when it comes to RPing. It also can help you find better ways of writing. Reading alone won't make you better of course. It takes some practice and I usually do this by writing stories and getting input from people. "Tip #3 Two words: Speed Kills! If you have a GREAT idea, but rush through it...it isn't so great. If you have people willing to be active, you can keep an RP going for weeks or even months and it can still be dynamic, fun, and always with fresh ideas coming. If you try fitting all of that into 1-2 weeks, it can end up turning away people who may not have the time to be on 3-5 times a day to post. Sometimes slowing down and not doing huge time skips allows people to really interact and develop characters. "Tip #4 A few words can easily give some info on this: Common people in extraordinary situations can become extraordinary people.
20:31:06 May 6th 09 - Mr. Grievous: can anyone recommend good fantasy novel?
21:20:47 May 6th 09 - Prince Mielo: try charly the unicorn
21:25:56 May 6th 09 - Sir Karzun Demonsul: *kicks Meilo out of the thread
21:51:06 May 6th 09 - Ms. Black Hearted: I read on previous threads that action phrases like
21:58:31 May 6th 09 - Sir Karzun Demonsul: Action phrases, as you put them, are for casual places like the Tavern. If you are in a serious roleplay, never even think of using asterisks.
22:34:12 May 6th 09 - Ms. Antianara: so how describe your actions?
02:21:01 May 7th 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley: I guess Septim should have added to this topic: As for Antianara...do you mean like: Charley looked around for a moment and sighed at the stupidity of some people. That shows action...the dialogue is in quotes. You could add as much detail as you want. Charley craned his neck around and sighed heavily after seeing some of the pointless junk people posted.
03:49:27 May 7th 09 - Ms. Antianara: I nod gently as things come in perspective
04:11:04 May 7th 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley: Typically you don't talk in first-person. (I or me) but that is better.
04:40:58 May 7th 09 - Ms. Antianara: I am a bit confused about this.
05:14:59 May 7th 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley: On the forum, you should show actions, but when sending ingame messages for RP points you are writing in a "letter" format. If you were writing a letter to a friend, you would not add *Charley thought about what he should write next and then wrote* etc etc. You would write like you were REALLY writing a letter to someone. If you are going to RP on the forums, then you write like above and in the first-person. In other words Forum RPing(For fun) Message RPing(For RP points)
15:21:41 May 7th 09 - Ms. Antianara: got it thanks
18:18:46 May 7th 09 - Mr. Killer: 2nd person is you, 3rd person is s/he.
