I think it would be interesting to see the opinion of other players. Effectiveness in VU comes down to activity far more than knowledge or skill. That said, in my eyes; I have always had a few traits that define a good player: 1. Capable of detecting movement 10 seconds before the tick change 2. Makes any significant army movement 5 seconds before the tick change 3. Is never beaten to an attack in which an enemy has the potential to strike first after the tick. This includes if an enemy army BTs at a player from the field, the player should have been spamming refresh on the army page every second to STILL hit first. 4. Always has at least 1 wall in every city 5. Never lets a city sit at 100% population, shifts extra peasants out into an army 6. Does not build cities in a 1:5 ratio of homes:economic buildings, and only achieves this ratio when the city is completed. In no particular order, those are 6 pretty simple ways to distinguish shitty players from good ones. #5 and #6 are usually harder to detect, but if someone in your kingdom has a terrible income pre-OOP it isn't hard to pick up on. These are absolutely not end-all measurements of skill and mean little compared to other things, but I use these myself as a rule-of-thumb way to determine if someone is good. There are also a plethora of other things that, in my eyes; make a player good, but these all come down to making intelligent army movements and having the foresight and experience to predict certain things well. There is also information that people need to know as well, such as the well known formula for prep time and the one for calculating % given your power and an enemy's power; and then more obscure information that is equally valuable but far less known like the formula for deaths/injuries caused at given strengths in a field battle between armies, the formula for peasant growth, ect. In my VU notepad where I keep all of my VU related information, I also keep a list of players. I mostly do it so I can always know the timeszones of anyone I have ever been in a kingdom with or the suspected timezones of other players, but I also jot down judgement on them as players. I honestly don't keep up on forum matters or all of the people who play VU. Once a few more lists come up with more names, I will post one of my own. | ||||||
