Attacking
09:55:01 Jul 19th 08 - Dark Lord Osiris:

Attacks on cities

Move your army close to the city, or right on top of it if it has the gates open, then wait until the army gets there (by using bonus turns or just wait).
Then click on the city name on the map. On the city page there will be a button that says something like "Our army is ready..."

When you arrive at a city. You have started preparing an attack on it. Preparation time can vary by the size of the city and the % of walls. The longer you prepare the better chance you will have of achieving victory.

When you have a good chance at attacking the city. Go for it. The higher the chance the less % of troops you will lose.

When you attack a city and win the defender often takes 100% losses.

Slaves are only taken using the "Take over" attack, but when you attack a city, and you are much stronger then the owner of the city... the peasants and soldiers might run away (if the defending player has another city) and you gain no resources if this happen.

In the take over, plunder and steal food attacks, the resources gained depends on how many resources buildings and warehouses there is in the city. Supplies for sale on the market will also be taken.

Take Over

Take the city over. Benefits- Slaves and resource gains depending on how much the defender has in stock.

Plunder

Takes Resources from the defender. The bigger the city, the more resources you get, you also plunder resources they have on the market.

Siege

Kills a small percentage of troops inside the city and puts the city under siege.

Kamikaze

Kills a proportional amount of the defending troops, depending on the Offensive Points (OP) of your army.
Most of the attackers army are likely to die.

Bombard

Can only be done with catapults (humans special troops). You need to wait until the army is fully prepared before you can make the attack.

The catapults will destroy buildings, walls and kill troops.
The chance is always 100% and the destruction depends on the amount of catapults.
Losses to your own army depends on how many ranged units there are in the city.

Steal Food

Only available for Halfings: This attack will steal food from the city.

Liberate

If you are in a kingdom and the last owner of the city was someone in your kingdom, you will be able to give it back.

Burn and Destroy

Only available for orcs. This will burn the city to the ground.

Attacks on armies

To attack an army, you need to have one of your own armies close to it.

When an army attacks another army the losing army will return to the owners kingdoms closest town (if they have any).

Injured Troops

A small percent of injuries will occur when attacking cities or armies successfully.

Injured troops can only recover when your army is standing still. Magic units and medicine science make troops heal faster.

Morale

Morale can also affect an armies fighting ability. The less morale an army has the weaker it is.

Experience

Experience increases the attack/defence of an army. Experience can be earned attacking armies and cities.

The army size is shown on the map. Level 3 troops (knights, riders, etc) and special units counts as two soldiers.

Scout = 1-7 soldiers
Section = 8-11 soldiers
Platoon = 12-50 soldiers
Company = 51-299 soldiers
Battalion = 300-1499 soldiers
Regiment = 1500-3999 soldiers
Brigade = 4000-9999 soldiers
Division = 10,000-19,999 soldiers
Corps = 20,000-89,999 soldiers
Army = 90,000-199,999 soldiers
Group of armies = 200,000-999,999 soldiers or a merge
Horde = More then one million soldiers.

15:00:27 Jul 24th 09 - Mr. Billious:

Thanks for the article, couple of questions, if I may ask?

Morale
As I understand it, if my morale is say 95%, then my army will be 95% effective. Is this assumption correct?

Experience
I had an army last era with 3 xp, have you any idea what the % effect of this would be?

01:43:00 Aug 1st 09 - VU Admin:

The effects of morale and experience on op/dp is secret, so you have to do some testing of your own if you want to find out the exact formula.

With 95% morale your power will not be exactly 95% but close. Each experience point will add 1-3% more power.

23:38:16 Nov 18th 09 - Mr. Blue:

for some reason i put my troops over a city, but the only options are: plunder, siege, and kamikaze

my race is dwarf FYI

00:51:41 Nov 19th 09 - Duchess Mama Bear:

you're probably on a lower world and you're too much larger than your opponent..... thus they're protected by the 50% rule ;)

Attacks on cities

Move your army close to the city, or right on top of it if it has the gates open, then wait the amount of turns until the army gets there (by using bonus turns or just wait).
Then click on the city name on the map. On the city page there will be a button that says something like "The Generals of ..."

When you arrive at a city. Your army will begin the preparation to attack the city automatically. Preparation time can vary depending on the size of the city, Troop numbers and the number of walls. The longer your army prepares to attack the better chance you will have of achieving victory.

When you have a "high enough" chance of success at attacking the city. Go for it. The higher the chance the less % of troops you will lose.

When you attack a city and win the defender losses their entire army.

Slaves are only taken by capturing a city with slaves(However you may take peasants as slaves), but when you attack a city, and you are much stronger then the owner of the city... the peasants and soldiers might run away (if the defending player has another city) and you will gain no resources if this happens.

In the take over, plunder and steal food attacks, the resources gained depends on how many resources buildings and warehouses there is in the city.  A percentage of their Supplies for sale on the market will also be taken.

It is recommended that you allow your armies the full amount of time they need to be prepared(Unless you have 100%) to ensure minimum losses.

Q: The text from another city is overlapping the text for the city I want to attack... I can't click it! What should I do?

A: Click on the army icon in the menu. If your army is preparing to attack the city you wish to attack, you will have a link to the attack-page by clicking the city name in the "Location" section.

Take Over

Capture the enemy city for yourself if it can be easily defended or you plan on wrecking it. Benefits- Resources gained depends on the resource buildings and warehouses as well as how much the defender has in stock. Destroy any city you capture that cannot be properly defended.

Q: If you capture a city, can you just destroy it or does it have to stay there?

A: Only Orc's have the Burn 7 Destroy option, however, you can destroy the buildings inside it once you conquer it.

Plunder

Takes Resources from the defender. The amount of resources gained depends on the resource buildings and warehouses as well as how much the defender has in stock, you also plunder resources they have on the market. Helps with core expansion when on the offensive or training when on the defensive.(Does NOT count as a City Captured on the most Fearsome Ruler List)

Siege

Easier then other options because it does not calculate the defense of the Guardtowers as they do not participate. If successful the battle Kills a small percentage of troops and peasants inside the city. A city that has been Sieged gets cut off from all income involving resource structures (Taxes Not included :P) until the preparing army is routed. It also Prevents armies from retreating (Unless you merge into an army already outside the city)and causes a percentage of peasants to starve(Die) each turn.(Does NOT count as a City Captured on the most Fearsome Ruler List)

Kamikaze

Kills a Fair amount of the enemy defending troops depending on the Offensive Points (OP) of your army.
The attackers entire army will fight to the death.(Situational Tactic)

Bombard

Can only be done with a Human army containing any amount of Catapults. This attack option is unique and extremely effective in certain situations if done properly.

 You need to wait until the army is fully prepared before you can make the attack.

The catapults will destroy buildings, walls and kill troops.
The chance of success(Full prep only) is always 100% and the destruction depends on the amount of Catapults.

Losses to your own army depends on how many ranged units the enemy have stationed in the city.

Steal Food

Only available for Halfings. Like Siege, Steal Food does not calculate the defense of the Guardtowers as they do not participate. This attack will steal food from the city. Easier then putting a city under Siege. Works very well when the enemy core has been breached.

Liberate

If you are in a kingdom and the last owner of the city was someone in your kingdom or yourself. Any Allied armies preparing to attack will have an attack option to return the city to its previous owner.(DOES count as a City Captured on the most Fearsome Ruler List)

Burn and Destroy

Only available for orcs. This will burn the city to the ground Destroying it completely(Removing the city from the map). It causes the Morale of the attacking army to drop.(Does NOT count as a City Captured on the most Fearsome Ruler List)

Attacks on armies

To attack an army, you need to have one of your own armies close enough to it. Then you need to click on the enemy army(On the map) and near the bottom of that page there should be a button stating that "your army is awaiting your orders..."

When One army battles another army, The losing army will retreat to the closest Allied City (Providing the entire army is not Slaughtered and they have any cities remaining).

It is possible to Slaughter an entire army with a 100%, 99% will cause them to retreat.

Q: If you had 10% chance of winning does that mean your opponent has 90% chance of winning?

A: Yes and no. If the opponent have troops with high defence and low offence they will be better at defending then attacking. So if you have 90% on attacking, they have 10% on defending, but not always 10% if they would make the attack.

Injured Troops

A percent of troops will sustain injuries during combat depending heavily(not entirely) on the difference in Military Sciences between both combatants.

Injured troops can only recover when your army is standing still. Magic units, Allied Cities and Medicine Science make your troops heal faster.Sitting in Allied Cities and Medicine Science will increase the Recovery ratio of injured troops.

Injured troops have 0 OP/DP while injured and will slow down any moving army.

Morale

Morale has a TREMENDOUS affect on EVERYTHING especially regarding an armies Military Power. The lower the percentage of Morale an army has the less effective it is. Meaning that the Adventurer ability to Find Treasures is affected as well as the Magic Defense of an army.

With 95% morale your armies Power will not be exactly 95% but it is really close

Experience

Experience increases the attack/defense of an army by 1-3%(Linear). Experience can be earned by attacking armies and cities.An army with Experience will change when an army merges OR troops get transferred in. Here is the Formulation for this.

(Army_A_Size * Army_A_Exp + Army_B_Size*Army_B_Exp) / (Army_A_Size + Army_B_Size) = Final Exp
Over Powered

Q: What must i do when i'm under attack?

A: If you can not beat the army attacking your city, try to escape.
