Cookies are nice to eat, but what are they doing in your computer?

What's a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file saved in your computer. It's placed there by the site you are visiting.
The same site that placed the cookie on your computer can also request it. This can be very handy as it allows the web page to store info such as shopping cart or user ID.

How cookies are used in Visual Utopia

The game will save a unique key and your ruler name in a cookie on your computer. The unique key and ruler name is used to identify you on the site.

Instead of typing in your user name and password for every action in the game, the server will get the unique key from the cookie and use it to check up on what game account the updates should be done.

Are there bad cookies?

Ad network such as Google use cookies to identify you on the internet. The information is then used to show targeted ads. If you for example search google for "PC parts" and then visit a site with Google ads, you might see an ad from a site wanting to sell GFX-cards or computer motherboards.
It's up to you to decide if they are bad or not...

How to enable cookies

You need to go to your browser settings.

Internet Explorer

Tools > Internet Options > Privacy

There you can add http://visual-utopia.com as a trusted site or lower the settings.

Firefox

Tools > Options >Privacy > Accept cookies from sites

If you do not want to accept cookies you can add http://visual-utopia.com as an exception.

You should sticky this and add directions on how to clear cookies. :).
