Is it wrong to ......
05:01:01 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Osmosis:

Is it wrong to burn your cities before someone, much stronger or numerous, can take them?

Just curious of the various opinions on this.

05:22:42 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Acerf III:

lol they're yours and u can do whatever u want with them

05:28:29 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Ancient Basio:

well it is the right thing to do .

05:36:43 Feb 21st 08 - Dark Nemisis:

nah i think u shud just hand them over, remove all your peasants and army and welcome them with fruit and a hand full of women.

06:03:54 Feb 21st 08 - Sir Soccerrogue:

i see it as a sign of weakness. i have never done it, and doubt i ever will. i like to think i can take it back eventually. and it angers me when i take a wrecked city................ so i don't do it. :)

06:09:36 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Resilience:

It's often smart to do it if they other person can plunder it...

07:28:12 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. William of Warlo:

DO IT!!!, its really fun.

07:32:10 Feb 21st 08 - Sir Architect:

It's a cowardly thing to do in my mind.  If you don't like someone taking your cities, go and take them back.  Maybe in the time they had it they will have improved upon it and it will end up being better for you not to burn everything.

08:20:08 Feb 21st 08 - Sir Salaracen Vineraven:

well in real life in the middle ages they would burn what ever they couldent take with them before an enemy attacked. Its a ligitamit stratergy

08:48:33 Feb 21st 08 - Lord Seloc:

Unless you want them back burn it.

08:51:52 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Cobra:

"i see it as a sign of weakness"

I see it as a sign of stupidity not to do it.

11:02:01 Feb 21st 08 - Sir Evans:

I duno , its honourable to not burn and accept defeat (come back later)

But then burning is much better for yourself most likely but maybe a lil dishnourable

11:12:58 Feb 21st 08 - Ms. Natalia:

We have done it in abydos to stop lgc becoming stronger!

In our situation we are doing it so to give abydos a chance, i will not leave my cities to carnage so that they can attack our allies! I believe you can gain more honour by helping an ally in this way, then trying to fight a battle you know you will lose and hand over the cities they need to attack your ally!

11:29:29 Feb 21st 08 - Sir Valentine:

Best just do what you want to do

But i suggest you burn it!! Kill the house and all and drag your peasant somewhere else. Peasant army is counted as scouts. So it wont take long though.

There are adv and disadv of burning though.

Adv, your enemy will feel angry, and when he gets the city, he has to build it again. And when you burn, it just cost like 20% of the building price, and you can prevent the enemy to be in Most Powerful Ruler and i think they will not get any winning gold, lumber food and slaves after taking the city.

Disadv, your peasant will be slaves, he gets a colony and the mine and all for free and shorter his time to be Most Powerful Ruler. But by giving him the city, it will increase his land number and therefore the price of build and train cost will increase.

That is what i know.

11:35:23 Feb 21st 08 - Sir Evans:

best thing t do.... turn it into a rainbow  :)

11:36:59 Feb 21st 08 - Ms. Natalia:

lol, why?

11:49:43 Feb 21st 08 - Lord Abydonian Napbreaking Scum:

Valentine us uck.

12:26:44 Feb 21st 08 - Duke Argyle:

This is known as the Holy Tactic, it was used against the Phi kingdom some eras back, as the entire kingdom was lost, we decided to burn ourselves to the ground, so the enemies wouldn't get stronger by defeating us, still recognising we were defeated.

This tactic has been used for centuries in the real world, but then it was more about destroying fields of wheat and other food. so the passing enemy soldiers couldn't eat. The wars in the middle east has a similar happening when the people put their oil resources on fire, so the enemies wont get it.

I can admit it's evil and sneaky, but it's not wrong. And totally ok with the rules.

12:48:44 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Mushasji:

'scorched earth/soil' ... it worked for the russians ... (and many others before that ...)

12:49:18 Feb 21st 08 - Mr. Dolfyn:

I would say: bring more gasoline! it will burn faster ... and with a nicer flame also ... :D

19:33:23 Feb 21st 08 - Lady Rhiannia:

i think it depends on the situation...if you think you have a chance or one of your mates has a chance of liberating your city...dont burn it...but if that chance is next to none, by not burning you only make your enemy stronger. it makes more sense to destroy your own city then allow it to be used by the enemy against you. i dont believe it has anything to do with weakness or cowardice...it is a strategic move, and one that could make the difference in your kingdoms eventuall winning or absolute failure.

19:37:54 Feb 21st 08 - Sir Erunion Telcontar:

It's a good and clever move, but I don't like actually doing it, and I almost never do as I believe myself capable of taking it back.
If there is a 0% chance of retaking it, go right ahead, it's a great and legit tactic. If there is a 25% chance or higher, I wouldn't.

21:12:30 Feb 21st 08 - Lord Protector Nimic:

"The Holy Tactic"? Bollocks! People were using it long before anything such as Holy ever existed ;)

23:50:32 Feb 21st 08 - Duke Argyle:

yes nimic, but it usually never is used by the entire kingdom at the same time...

00:03:49 Feb 22nd 08 - Duke Ulgrin The Bastard:

The last time I got killed, I built all taverns in my cities so the enemy soldiers would get so drunk I could retake the city easily.

00:06:56 Feb 22nd 08 - Lord Zucox II:

Yeah.. that's a bad idea.. when i take your cities.. you only left 1Guard towers...  and now you even left Fantasia..:(..  and so bad Dolfyn is also doing the same thing...:(

00:19:26 Feb 22nd 08 - Mr. Vexsloth:

Burn baby burn.

18:55:53 Feb 29th 08 - Mr. Revengicus V:

screw the others ozzy! its your choice, just as it was my choice to take a short break and make my own little kingdom! BTW im missin the DF cos my guys are too serious!

18:58:05 Feb 29th 08 - Mr. Demonsul:

use your superior mental strategy to burn the town so the nazguls cant steal it!

20:18:53 Feb 29th 08 - Praetorian Osmosis:

Revengicus, This is not a "your wrong" thread, it is open discussion, with no right answer, as everyones opinion matters.

And yes, I should have stated that the possibility of retaking the city would be less then 10%, from my judgment.

20:24:54 Feb 29th 08 - Mr. Revengicus V:

soz dude thought you were asking advice or summat :) not that ud need it of course... BTW how you guys gettin on?

22:50:51 Mar 2nd 08 - Mr. Vpr:

Lol turn it into a rainbow xD
hehe make the city a worthless-piece-of-sh*t city

07:32:44 Mar 10th 08 - Mr. Duke Corrilin:

I think you should burn it if you know you wont be able to get it back.thinking logically quite a few people have their cities near to there others.so remembering he can use this city to make troops and attack you from it i think you should burn it.

08:07:21 Mar 10th 08 - Mr. Random:

LEAVE MINES BURN ARMOURIES!

simple =)

04:53:49 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Justin:

its up to the person considering its there city. if u expect them to give u a higher income then u had b4 u took their city, ur pretty damn retarted

05:08:14 Mar 11th 08 - Prince Calus Septim V:

I do it if, while the person's armies are marching towards mine, they insult me and call me names, then I go "Oh yeah, well have fun fighting over a one home town!"

05:11:31 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Justin:

or just use the cities as decoys so they cant find ur reall income cities

06:55:26 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Anubis:

Simple its your city

you can do what you want

and as many of you have said it was used in Real life it is a tactic it is not dishounorable

and like Natalia Said

"I believe you can gain more honour by helping an ally in this way, then trying to fight a battle you know you will lose and hand over the cities they need to attack your ally"

this is true doing that for an ally will bring you more respect

so what if the other Kingdom hates you there already your enemy

07:36:30 Mar 11th 08 - Ms. Geneva:

"Golly! im defeated, heres my production cities. You deserve it."

10:12:21 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Anubis:

lol

14:51:35 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Revengicus VII:

you should burn down all buildings and build warehouses lol. pointless city

15:04:19 Mar 11th 08 - Prince Calus Septim V:

Lol

15:48:01 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Justin:

lol

18:37:51 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Anubis:

Not true
a city with warehouse in it will convert More Stone to gold

18:46:26 Mar 11th 08 - Mr. Deadordying:

I always try to raze cities if I can't defend them. It stops increasing the enemys' income and also prevents the enemy from stealing my resources. It is the sensible thing to do

DoD

04:24:47 Mar 12th 08 - Mr. Justin:

so simple answer to the guy who asked the dumbest question on if it was wrong to do this. No it isnt. u cant expect someone to give u a bigger income just because u faught a long war adn u want a larger income as compensation for ue victory and loss of troops
