Valhalla 71
03:21:24 Oct 20th 20 - Phat (Grand Moff Phat):

tbf - I don't usually field armies. just hide in my towers and cast spells.

So lots of teaching going on, esp with the science and early troll plays.

03:26:08 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

I have a question for you, too, Phat. Please be honest.

Did you try to ROF my Ghosts or EQ my city, here?

The progress of Robins Archers has been hindered by magic!

03:29:01 Oct 20th 20 - Phat (Grand Moff Phat):

Again, struggling to be a fighter. Had to build a magic city out of habit.

and, I won't be giving any information that I don't need to be giving.

03:33:03 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad):

then you are not contributing to the 'teaching' aspect at all, Phat.

04:05:28 Oct 20th 20 - Phat (Grand Moff Prelate Rata):

You mean, I should be teaching the opponent?

04:11:26 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

Not necessarily, Phat. But what have you got to lose? I'll try my best to build magic defense to my cities, anyway. I am facing 3 mages.

I would be curious though if you have mistaken my ghost army with my main one and wasted all your arsenal on that.

05:13:45 Oct 20th 20 - Phat (Grand Moff Prelate Rata):

I'm not an idiot...

I am quite impressed with your performance. You don't need any tips at this point :)

05:25:09 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

I didn't mean that, Phat.

06:23:04 Oct 20th 20 - Mr. Bigfield:

We try to accommodate when we can

We have spots now in Hammer and Shield, but we tend to skew on the casual side of play. Those with a desire for more tens to migrate after a while.

08:17:18 Oct 20th 20 - Percy (Sir Tirion Fordring):

So, a new player has to either play solo, where he cannot learn too much about this game or join a dying KD, in which case he may quit in rage, as others have already done it. Tell me I am not right here, Percy.”

Not debating you there, new players who don’t get hooked on a KD do leave, specially when beaten down. However, that’s not the case on the world right now, so I don’t feel that it’s a valid part of this discussion. We’ve seen 1 tagless all era and we reached out to him despite his clear intent to drop on us, a move not made by a noob. In his single reply to me (I messaged him about how I fat-fingered my army into a suicide while trying to ask how his era is going) it was to say he logs on once per day and that he hoped the 50% rule would keep him safe.

We can adjust as needed if there’s a tagless willing to play. Until then, we will do our best to not die and let our guys learn new strategies.

And we have not closed our doors at all despite the cap. To join our KD, activity in Discord is a requirement, as effective training requires constant communication, both for instruction as well as for questions. Should tagless wish to join while we are capped, they can join our Discord server, where we have channels split just like in forums, with each topic partitioned out for easy to follow steps for everything. This way new players can learn and have access to all the materials even after they leave the KD, all while still having a way to ask us directly even if with other KDs. If they don’t want to be notified or pay attention to the general chatter, they can mute that channel and leave the Q&A channels open for notifications.

It’s a very solid setup (thanks to Jasper’s and Moff’s work) that allows us the opportunity to train others in the interim should a tagless wish to join, and we can train anyone in the game regardless of world or affiliation if need be. We actively hunt for people to join us to learn from our wide variety of skill sets.

But on a side note, for not having played Elf in 12 years, you’ve got a solid setup going for you. And nice job disguising what you have too :)

08:34:07 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

Percy, I'll be honest with you. Remember my proposal regarding retention of new players? After your comment about helping new players learn VU in Valhalla, I thought you guys really take on board new players, every era and anytime. I mean truly new players.

You say about Dwagon - that was one year ago.

09:19:44 Oct 20th 20 - Percy (Sir Tirion Fordring):

We absolutely do, ask literally anyone who has played on this world at any time in the last year. This is your first time setting foot on the world, so please don’t make snap judgements based on your two weeks of being on our turf. If there are no new players to bring in, are we to allow ourselves to be overwhelmed be a world hell bent on killing us? No, we then go for the next best thing: returning players who want to catch up, followed by players who want to learn a new aspect of the game.

If I need to be detailed:
* I’m helping teach Jasper how to full era mage as halfer (he’s still overall new to maging)
* Griejka is learning Human, how to balance fighting and econ
* Konstant is less outright learning and more implementing all we (and others who are helping bim) have taught him, with us to give feedback as he goes.
* I’m learning and tweaking my take on how to effectively hybrid mage (OOP fight early, mage late) as I’m historically crap at that, so I can help teach others how to do the same.

That’s 4 people directly learning new aspects of the game in one KD, with feedback allowed from any with experience so we can each learn new aspects every era. Our mission is still alive and well. Should we find a truly new player, we would do our best to be inclusive. This is the first era we have been at the cap in a while, and it’s directly because of Mimic having 10 strong players alongside the HnS/CW/KoH alliance that happens every era. We had 8 until we dropped onto the world and saw the alliance was on top of us with Mimic located far away, it was at that point we recruited Moff and Ruthless (their first era with us).

You see it now yourself, no fighting exists on the world except against us. Don’t fault us for wanting to not die immediately and enjoy the era. Our plan is (and has been since we recruited) to reduce our size after the era to allow for trainings again. I maintain its easier to teach people when they are alive enough to play rather than teach from the “Your character has died” screen :P

09:32:35 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

Percy, don't get it wrong. I don't fault you at all.

What I derived from your wording was that your KD helps with new players retention. That was my proposal about: 'new player retention'.

Yet your definition of new player is different than mine. I mean by new player one player that hasn't played a full era yet. And I think a full era is enough time to figure out what this game is about.

Helping other players know more about the game is good (we all do this though), but it is not the same. It does not increase VUs player base.

09:44:06 Oct 20th 20 - Lady Jasmina:

After I came back to the game after a break few months ago, I joined Candlewax, then HnS, before that I was member of KoH. I have been in all kingdoms other than Judgement (they don't like me) trying to help members and do what I can to teach, and I was thinking maybe bring another kingdom to Valhalla to bring the competition up a bit. I was hesitative as I did not think I would be able to get people, given we do not have many people in VU.

To my surprise I had many replies after I posted the request in recruitment thread in forums, fairly quickly I got 10 people to write to me. So we all started and one guy did not show up, so we were 9 in the beginning. We looked around the map, looking for tagless, we found only 1. It was Bogdan. After an initial freak out thinking he is gonna kill us all, we figured out he just tested something and quit the world. Freak out because waay back when I first brought Odyssey to Fantasia when the worlds were connected, and I was proud to bring my people to Fantasia, we settled right next to 1 player called Gladiatorul. Few days later my entire kingdom was killed and you took all of our cities. I saw you bragging in forums while back about that being your best era ever in VU, and that was by far my weakest moment of VU. I have been trying to teach people how to play and when ever I see tagless I make sure nobody attacks them if they are new. Later on Roq did join late, so that is why we are now full.

By the way, there is no need for people to join kingdom in Valhalla, its much safer to actually stay tagless protected by 50% rule. Kingdoms I am in will never attack tagless people, unless they are a really known veteran people who seem to be aggressive toward us. Even a highly skilled veteran like Bogdan, we asked if he wants diplomacy as it makes no sense to attack single players. It is a shame there are no tagless on our side of the map, if there were we would make sure to help them.

10:31:46 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

@ Jas - Last time, in the past, I played in Fantasia was under Gladiators flag, together with you as Aisha. And I played Elf at that time.

In the past I played orc one time (about 12 years back). It was Lewatha's KD can't remember name. I used drop-landing and had a killer nazzies army.

I am aware there was another player named Gladiator or The Gladiator, who liked playing Orc.  I don't remember to have taken Odyssey down. But memories go away.

Was that Gladiator player playing solo or under a KD banner?

10:59:43 Oct 20th 20 - Konspyre (Captain Bolvar Fordragon):

Glads points are mute because you can't retain new players without having any new players in the first place :D

11:28:59 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad):

You can't have them, you mean; they join the KDs you crush and then they quit Konspyre; the Halfer in our KD quit, another Orc, I thought he quit, but he came back after 5-6 days absence.

11:37:07 Oct 20th 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

@ Jas

I had a look to the old results to refresh my memories. The Gladiator used to have a small KD called The Dacians.

I played in the far away past under MAD, Retribution and Gladiators banners.

11:37:16 Oct 20th 20 - Lady Jasmina:

In that case indeed must have been the other player using Gladiator as his name.

Still my point was even back then I was trying to lead kingdoms and teach new players. We have Penguin and Stewie in the kingdom. You can't go any more noob friendly than that. :P

By the way, Valhalla is more veteran packed than Fantasia in some sense
No matter the 50% rule, the world is not really new player friendly
Otherwise there would be limit to exp to enter.
Valhalla is the best world atm, kingdom limit makes it impossible to go huge
And lots of nice wars and competition.

Hope new players join and have fun like the rest of us do.

13:51:58 Oct 20th 20 - Captain Joe The Forsaken:

I definitely agree  with jasmina, that this is the best world to play on rn^ super looming forward to see how it ends!

14:18:53 Oct 20th 20 - Penguin (Lord Penguin The Strange):

yeah! me noob, me train nazz, expensive troops, i should go like all vets. train hammarrs and ogras!

15:15:31 Oct 20th 20 - Percy (Sir Tirion Fordring):

@ Glad: what I’m trying to say is we DO help with new player retention. That’s kind of our MO. You’re seeing the one time that isn’t the exact case, and that was a conscious decision based on how the map is set up this time with the addition of Mimic (they’re new this era). We respect their ability, and wasn’t confident we could have half a chance with 8 people agains the Alliance and Mimic. Last era we got killed early, and we weren’t gonna let that happen again. As I said in my previous comment, it’s hard to teach when you’re dead.

About the crushing people and make them quit: how is that our fault? That’s a KD full of experienced players who died early. Are you faulting us for executing strategy in a war game? Most of Judgment didn’t respawn last era after we died, doesn’t mean we quit. We may not have logged in, but we kept comms up through Discord. Not sure if y’all have external chat options, but if not there’s less chance to know if those people may be back next era. Case in point, Dakarta leaves when dead but comes back for a new era.

We always have and always will be focused on new player retention. We took a single (1) era break from that so we don’t die by week 3 for a second era in a row to allow all those trying to learn various aspects a place to do that. Proof we do actively focus on this: we do have a player who was a true, never-played-before noob only 3-4 months ago (Konstant) who seems to like the game quite well.

You can keep going full lawyer mode and debate wordplay further, but you know what I’ve been trying to say this whole time, as you’re even quoting my/our past posts of what our mission is. So one last time: this era is different than all our other eras due to necessity, we still are actively seeking to helping new players (and have held the same “don’t attack tagless” mentality Jasmina mentioned from day 1), and we will be operating under our cap (unless we get new trainees in) after this era.

Only caveat is we simply can’t be a KD full of trainees, otherwise there’s no one to teach, so we decided on the core: Sal, Cpt, Joebob, Jasper, and myself. After those 5 we can have as many people who want to learn as possible (of any skill level, preference to lowest skill). If we’re under our cap, other non-learners can join, but only if we would still under the cap with their addition.

15:40:49 Oct 20th 20 - Konstant (The Ancient Faceless One):

Hey Glad!

I'm "Glad" you mentioned me!

Just want to jump in and support Judgement here since I'm thankful for everything they have done to help me out, but I'm not reading all of that^^^.

I'm a true noob. Been playing 3/4 months, and while I grasp the game "meta", there are a lot of things I haven't done yet. For instance, this era was my first time "core dropping" vs KoH, and first time playing as Elf-Mage on Fantasia, and on Mantrax it is my first time playing Halfing.

Sure, I get how to build my econ, but you don't see the many, many mistakes I make in actually playing the game (including my econ).

Judgement took me in, answered about a 107 questions very thoroughly (<<< no joke btw, just ask Jasper & Percy). I use Valhalla at the moment to test different tactics/strategies which might not be optimal, but are interesting to figure out (like my science order this era on Valhalla...no spoilers though!).

Also shoutout to Cao & JD, who have also put up with about 53 different questions.

I can confirm that Judgement looks out for new/tagless players on Valhalla. Even though Judgement this era has 10 members they reached out to Pilon to create a personal NAP to keep him safe, but he joined HnS and attacked us.

15:45:02 Oct 20th 20 - Percy (Sir Tirion Fordring):

Also, @Jasmina we have nothing against you, you’re a solid player and fun to fight both with or against :) I hope that comment was just poking fun that you haven’t been in our KD, as we have no ill feelings towards you at all.

Also did not mean to imply with any of this that other kingdoms don’t help new/learning players, just that it’s our primary goal. I know HnS and CW have each tried to help foster new and newer players as best they can, but just publicly saying that our mission, not just something we do once in a while when it times out right.

15:55:21 Oct 20th 20 - Konstant (The Ancient Faceless One):

Jasmina, come on gurl! U kno U luved!

You won the very first VU Survival after all.

Last piece to add. The players in Judgement often help me even when we are on opposing sides on other worlds.

If that's not a dedication to teaching, I do not know what is.

16:48:50 Oct 20th 20 - Penguin (Lord Penguin The Strange):

Doubt jasper is qualified to teach anyone cause i answer 500questions of his...

Still waiting for my money, bitch.

17:18:25 Oct 20th 20 - Lady Jasmina:

Yeah I was joking hehe

Judgement are great
Been in same kingdom with most of that group :-)

Ontopic, I really do not think there is a kingdom (aside from FW) that kills tagless.
Not saying FW does not teach, they just do not do peace with anyone

ZeTa will take care, whatever left of the game after the game server is dead for players like you.

07:42:51 Nov 23rd 20 - Gladiatorul (General Glad The Cruel):

Is this a new thing for the Arma to be cancelled when 25% +1 players still want to play?

19:12:37 - Armageddon was canceled! There were 9 rulers who wanted the age to end, 12 rulers who didn't, and 20 rulers who did not vote.

14:15:39 Nov 23rd 20 - Mr. Bigfield:

What the heck??

The expected behavior we wanted was for there to be a 10 day countdown to the end of the era for a brawl.

This is turd sandwich central.

00:12:37
Armageddon was canceled! There were 9 rulers who wanted the age to end, 12 rulers who didn't, and 20 rulers who did not vote.

14:58:23 Nov 23rd 20 - Captain Joes Unholy Run:

why isn’t there a countdown??

15:18:44 Nov 23rd 20 - Mr. Bigfield:

Evidently the 9 of the 41 votes, many of which were our own, somehow cancelled Armageddon??

We wanted to trigger a countdown so we knew this would all be over by the weekend after thanksgiving with next era mid era being over the holidays.

Took me like 5 attempts to. Doing it again.

We don't want instant arma. We want whoever wants to attack us to bring it but let the countdown go.

17:58:52 Nov 23rd 20 - Mr. Bigfield:

Ok. Got arma again .

Now vote yes but not everybody...

We do still want to fight
