There are usually enough kingdoms that are willing to NAP, especially early on. If you find it hard to survive on Fantasia you have to more resourceful, its as simple as that.

About being a lot more active, i know a lot of people who log in 3 times a day or something similar and can compete quite decently with the other players. It doesnt take 24/7 activity to be competitive, although activity helps its not guarantee.

In all seriousness, to get a new kd started in Fant and to have any shot at it whatsoever, it's got to be who you know as well as what you know.

The leader, or whoever the leader puts in charge of diplomacy, has to not just be content to make a kd and then be content to farm their little portion of the world. Else, they'll end up as Heph called them, 'food'. They have to be active and go to the leaders of nearby kds, or try to appeal to some of the 'stronger' kds on the map. Likely, some of the stronger kds may NAP if you come off pretty well.

Also, the leader has to try and get the rest of his members up to speed for Fant-level play. I've noticed that it's getting rare to find rainbow towns among vet players (thank you PERC!) however new kds, used to Mant pace or just lack of knowledge, always seem to have some left among them. Big no-no. Experience with turn-based strat games and a feel for tactics is also a huge plus.
