Is Bless useful anymore
19:15:44 Aug 3rd 09 - Mr. Venithen:

A long time ago when I started playing VU, I remember bless being a really valuable spell when defending, as it would greatly increase the defense of a city being attacked.  But I took a hiatus from VU for a time, and now that I've started playing again, it seems like no one uses or even gives thought to bless.  I know we at least used it when I last played, and that it had a pretty potent effect.  Has that changed?  All I can really find on the spell is the general "increases defense" answer, but no real evidence of a nerf.  So I was wondering if anyone could clear this up for me, because I'm curious as to why bless isn't used like it once was.

Nope, not really :)

High MU cost for a ~1% gain in power

Bless has been nerfed.
Don't even get me going on Firewalls Spell being taken away also.

19:33:58 Aug 3rd 09 - Mr. Ezzy Teh Elven Warrior:

yup the magic sucks and is only now there to supplement attacking. Eyes, happiness, freeze (slow), rof. I'd say those were the only useable spells in the game. The rest are probably only castable once and by a v limited number of people. Magic losses way too high for it to be useable.

19:37:53 Aug 3rd 09 - Mr. Venithen:

=/ it seems like alot of the available spells are a little underwhelming...  I mean sure there are good ones like EITS, freeze, crush walls, ROF, STG but there are alot of spells I don't think I would ever use, like Happiness, cure plague, bless, locust, Anger, etc.  And then there are the crazy spells that are practically impossible to get if you're not a mage, and expensive if you are one, with alot of those being situational at best.  Just seems like magic is really limited in its uses beyond the magic protection it gives you.

19:43:13 Aug 3rd 09 - Sir Big Mac Attack:

Well....yes and no.  I do use happiness and locust (okay, fairly rarely on this one)...but while some of the magic is pretty useless (see: bless, etc), the ones that ARE useful can be really powerful :P  True enough as Ez said, they cannot run alone, but a mage teaming up for defense or moving forward on the attack with others can do a loooooot of stuff to make life easier :)

true, its just kinda sad to have so many tools available and only use a few of them.

23:38:04 Aug 6th 09 - Sir Caradoc:

umm i cast plauge... alot now that i know people hate it. im working my way towards fantasia so i can cast it there mwhahah

23:47:31 Aug 6th 09 - Mr. Ignis:

Dude, happiness is so useful...

Although magic is rather limited in spells, it is EXTREMELY powerful, especially with no more elven merges runnin' around.

23:59:35 Aug 6th 09 - Sir Caradoc:

i do have to say that all spells are usefull. bless IS usefull but hard to cast thus making it a less than par spell. however if it is casted then it is usefull. just the question is, is it worth it?

00:01:02 Aug 7th 09 - Lord Wraith The Bored:

Hard to cast? Bless?? You're joking, I hope...

00:03:21 Aug 7th 09 - Sir Caradoc:

idk, im just posting off a previous statment i hoped was right. maybe not hard then, costly? lol. i thought he might mean you lose alot thus = high cost. oh well

Nope, not really :)

01:39:09 Aug 7th 09 - Sir Penor The Overwhelming:

Magic
Are you sure you want to order the Spellweavers in XXXXX to cast Bless upon XXXXX with 71% chance of success?

We have 26875 magic power from this range.

If we fail the spell we will lose 1893 Spellweavers!

Its not bad at all.... RoF is harder i think

01:46:45 Aug 7th 09 - Demonslayer Charley Deallus IV:

That isn't much magic power though.  If you were going for a powerful bless, the losses would increase as well.

01:51:50 Aug 7th 09 - Chancellor Mcfeast Deluxe:

Yup, the % blessed is a result of your magic power (much like how freeze works), so small power with small losses would be next to useless in the % bonus it gives.
