Alistair is the son of Alenvar, King of Astengar. Astengar was once one of the most powerful dwarven nations, with numerous cities and mines. Their dominance was unchallenged until a war was started with a rival dwarven nation, Regentel. Slowly, the nation of Astengar receded, until only two of their great cities were left. Believing that the end was near, Alistair attempted an assassination attempt on his father, so he could take control of the throne and lead the nation to victory. When this failed, a small civil war broke out. Defeated, Alistair took what remained of his followers and left Astengar to its fate. He took his followers far north and began his own nation, Ostengard.
