Magnitude 83 Quake Chile
08:37:49 Feb 27th 10 - The Architect:

The quake just hit off the coast of Chile.  Somewhere between magnitude 8.3 and 8.5.

08:38:45 Feb 27th 10 - The Architect:

...apparently you can't put periods in titles...

Not a magnitude 83 quake, it's supposed to be 8.3.

08:39:20 Feb 27th 10 - Mr. Dionysos:

A magnitude 83?

There will be no survivors.

08:41:45 Feb 27th 10 - Mr. Sandoran:

08:49:47 Feb 27th 10 - King Charley The Webnazi Kgb Mod:

Damn...8.3? That isn't good...first Haiti, then this... :(

10:08:54 Feb 27th 10 - Dr. Strange Love:

Magnitude 3.6 - in Alaska also

10:14:43 Feb 27th 10 - The Architect:

They are calling it an 8.8 now.  And a 6.2 and a 5.4 to follow up...

11:42:34 Feb 27th 10 - Lord Reddragon Reborn:

yep im watching the news, in some places says 8.8 and others 8.3. Im some cities of my country the feeled the quake too, we are very close to chile. Luckyly where i live the only danger is the sea or the rains.

11:55:38 Feb 27th 10 - The Architect:

Yeah, I'm hoping that a Tsunami doesn't come out of it.  I'm assuming that since it has not happened already that it probably won't, but I don't know how long it takes for it to travel.

13:38:46 Feb 27th 10 - Mr. Chaos Legna:

Just because it was an 8.8 magnitude doesnt mean it dislodged a large enough chunk of ocean sea crust to cause a Tsunami.

13:52:45 Feb 27th 10 - The Architect:

True, but it's always safer to assume that there is one and prepare for it than to assume it doesn't exist and get swept out to sea because of it, in my mind anyways.

That and the reports said a Tsunami watch was in effect for certain areas.

  1. Go to
  2. Hold down F11
  3. ????
  4. PROFIT!!!

21:31:03 Feb 27th 10 - Mr. Arthur Dent:

Tsunami will hit Hawaii in exactly 35 minutes from this post.  I don't know about any other islands, I expect the Galapogos islands to be pretty devestated.  There are Tsunami warnings all across the pacific rim, but I doubt there will be a big wave for Western U.S. and Canada, doubt anything for the rest of the rim.  Idk about Australia though, probably a big one.  I think Hawaii will be hit hard though.

22:08:01 Feb 27th 10 - Mr. Poseidon God of Sea:

Just a comparison for you guys, magnitude is figured in antilogarithms, so a 7.0 in Haiti is about 100million if you figured it. While the 8.8 in Chili is about 631million if you figured it, so the 8.8 is over 6 time STRONGER then the one in Haiti

22:31:20 Feb 27th 10 - Mr. Chaos Legna:

I know that its stronger I just cant do the math part to tell how much stronger :P

22:44:33 Feb 27th 10 - Dr. Strange Love:

American Samoa and Samoa are looking at trouble too now from Tsunami

22:49:29 Feb 27th 10 - Mr. Basch:

fuck it's going to hit here in a hour

22:54:04 Feb 27th 10 - Endless Wargasms:

the tsunami alert level extends all the way here to Seattle (ETA  1641 PST FEB 27 0041 UTC FEB 28) as well but they're saying low alert

22:59:43 Feb 27th 10 - The Architect:

Yes, all of 34 inches or so.

23:08:04 Feb 27th 10 - Endless Wargasms:

we get more rain then that in a day :p

guess we'll find out how much very soon

14:59:43 Feb 28th 10 - Duchess Cawkmaster:

I didn't surf this morning because I thought there was going to be a tsunami :(

it was good surf too :'(

04:32:46 Mar 3rd 10 - Mr. Vuggy:
