Game Development, I need you!
20:14:16 Nov 8th 07 - Mr. Squiddy:

I need any people capable of contributing to the development of an MMORPG!

Brief Description

It will be a medieval game, set in Europe (when the game expands we can add more countries), with a top-down view, like Diablo or Tibia, to name but a few examples.

We will not be recreating a recreated MMO based on an originally dull and monotonous game! I am trying to breathe life into the MMO genre, and can provide more details should you wi*beep*.

If you are interested please add me on msn: Constricted_viper@hotmail.com and feel free to ask me for more details!

14:35:43 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Sun:

Whats the salary that I may be offered?

15:17:59 Nov 9th 07 - Lord Argyle:

What kind of people are you looking for?
examples:
Graphic people (modelling etc)
Codehacking people (what language)
Game security people
Structure people (items, functions, spells, weapons and other equipments)
and many  many more that I can't think of hence I have never developed a game for the public.

15:55:41 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Soccerfreedom:

i have very little experience with such a thing, but i would love to help any way i could.

15:55:47 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Realturka:

I can think of a name for the game.. let's see.. killgore!

16:14:05 Nov 9th 07 - Prince Lucias Septim II:

I KNOW I KNOW!!!

Hey look! That guy has a gren-BOOM

Great title...

16:57:14 Nov 9th 07 - Lord Carnage:

We're an outsourcing company from china,
we work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week on any given project.
We have 15 chinese employees, all underage.
Our price is 10$ an hour (for all 15 employees).

Please contact us at www.google.com/china/outsourcing/index.html

17:18:54 Nov 9th 07 - Lord Carnage:

on a serious note:

I've participated in the development of an adventure game (XIII style). It was called TerraViolenta.
Unfortunately it never came to the release-date (stopped at mid-script.... ).

I can tell you a few things:
* to be the development leader, you must have one of the following: Money, Skills, great cheering ability.
* you'll need to have a VERY GOOD idea on how the game will be. "The character is a boy.... or maybe a dog... dunno... and he's a pilot... or maybe a taxi driver, or a sub.. and um... yeah he fights on the streets against some other dogs or pirates or something and yeah thats cool" << that will get you nowhere.
* you need to organize and split duties. People might feel "overburdened" and quit the project..
* you'll need good motivation. Either money/fun/results/worldwide acknowledgment...
* split the development in phases(scripting, sketching, somethinelse), and have milestones (eg. finishing the first 50 characters... or writing the framework...)
* you need a few ACTIVE members... those that will post almost everyday in the forums, so the inactive ones will start working more... if your forum/conversationstuff is too quiet, few will dare to break the silence.
* lots of other sh!t I won't tell you for free!

For graphics, ask on graphic forums: cgsociety.com deviantart.com blender.org ... google for them...
for coders, ask in various forums: ogre3d.org (only if you'll use that package)... google for them..

on gaming forums you'll find:
* wannabees that will join you, but do nothing
* rarely developers

if you have lots of money, try: getacoder.com and other outsourcing websites.

game development is not easy.
start with things such as tetris (but remember to give it a good name... tetris is copyrighted!), and move onto more complicated games where it's your making the rules.
Get the feel of it before starting doing something big!!

Myself,
I'm learning Java (gimme a few months and I'll make you tetris),
using Blender sometimes (3d modeling)
and GIMP (textures).
I'm also kicka$$ at marketing, *beep*ming and concept design!

I can be hired at low rates such as 10$ an hour! (heck, why not if it's fun)...

must be the longest post evar O___O

18:06:07 Nov 9th 07 - Lord Seloc:

Carnage how do you learn to program java, Blender, and Gimp? School, work, free time?

20:34:04 Nov 9th 07 - Lord Argyle:

I dunno about carnage, but I learned java/php/html/sql/graphicdesign at IT-gymnasiet (highschool in sweden). I have a great suggestion for you, search for people on a university in your hometown, students are cheap, and can work hard during anytime of the day. ofcourse a university with programs that teaches computer thingys.

20:38:13 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Squiddy:

Thanks for the tips their carnage, I was considering commenting on each point, but instead I will just say I have covered about 90% of that list.

I can't afford to pay anyone, the people that make up the team are comprised of friends. The only person I don't know on the team is one of my friends girlfriends, (artwork designer).

In response to Argyle, we are looking for anyone and everyone with at least a good knowledge in at least one particular area.

If you are still interested, drop me an email and I can give you more specific information, should you wi*beep*.

20:39:29 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Sun:

java sux ;(

my classmate and I made a side scrolling game (with math questions to answer at the end of each lvl to advance onto the next one) back in high school in c.

sprites were done in paint ;o

20:50:35 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Squiddy:

lol we are probably going to use C++

20:54:55 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Binh:

hehe i made a snake game on my TI-83 calculator game before. :)

I tried making an adventuring game too in the calculator, but got bored halfway from finishing it. Too much coding to do alone and stuff.... :)

21:26:30 Nov 9th 07 - Lord Carnage:

@seloc:
Meh, in fact I learn like a 50% of each ^^
Java - school... but right now they're teaching what Windows is, so I decided to learn it myself and wrote some little programs.. nothing fancy.
Blender - I started some 3 years ago, read tutorials etc. Stopped for some long periods, then got back to it again... right now I'm not working on it...
Gimp - I use it every now and then for some Paint-like jobs (pointing out bugs in other people's design for one ^^)... and VERY rarely, modify pictures (they're not that bad :P)
Work-nah... school
free-time - well, that's what I do during freetime.....
P.S. I'm also learning guitar ^^

but really, I suck at all those things >_>

@Argyle - indeed, university students are willing to work on lots of stuff

@Squiddy - tried contacting on msn... not working...
aslo for C++ I'd suggest you use Ogre3d, looks like a pretty good 3d library. works with blender :P

@binh - you're nuts O_O

21:41:57 Nov 9th 07 - Mr. Squiddy:

Thanks for the suggestion on Graphics Engine!

Check your in-game pm btw carnage.

11:45:00 Nov 10th 07 - Mr. Revenge:

im in :)

15:58:51 Nov 10th 07 - Mr. Dragonfly:

'' I can be hired at low rates such as 10$ an hour! (heck, why not if it's fun)...''

...  i think you should hire people from china or something very cheap :p

18:38:55 Nov 12th 07 - Mr. Might:

Ill join! I can do all the design and storyline and maybe even voice over!

On a serious note........ I can do some art design also.

18:54:48 Nov 12th 07 - Mr. Revenge:

cool :)

20:37:21 Nov 12th 07 - Mr. Kassius Son of Rome:

"and GIMP (textures)."

heheheheheheheheehehe

02:52:33 Nov 16th 07 - Mr. Squiddy:

The game is going well, lots of concepts have been drawn up and fully decided on! Even some ones that current MMO's suffer from we have found ways around a few of the old MMO problems.

:)

17:08:12 Nov 16th 07 - Mr. Sun:

WoW = very good system.

20:34:06 Nov 16th 07 - Mr. Squiddy:

Thank you for your astounding input ;)

P.S. I HATE WoW ;)
