I don't know what it is, but I've tried repeatedly to be good and I'm just not. I played a character in starta, a new one in starta, two on zetamania, and one on valhalla and not once have i placed in the top 10, even.
I cant tell what it is.
Production cities in a 1:5 ratio, lotsa magic users with your armies, use higher level units later in the game so upkeep isn't high.
Don't farm, its just plain wrong.
Try and communicate with your KD.
I just don't get it.

Being good doesn't come right away. Especially in 5 eras. You have to learn from the game and gradually make improvements on how you play.

I'm not good by any means, nor do I plan to be anytime soon. Be a student of the game.

Again. It will take time. Don't go into something new expecting to be the best, it'll only disappoint. Hell, Binh could probably write a guide for you and still won't see any benefits for a while to come.

Its also a lot about being active, making the right moves with your armies etc. Theres a lot of subtle things that affect your success.
You have to learn to evaluate the situation above all else imo, that tells you if you should farm, train troops, attack or defend. This skill comes mostly with time I would say tho, but I guess you could try guessing what people have for troops in armies or whats in their cities and let a mage eits it and see how close you got or something :)

Also, some people just have a certain playstyle that goes well togheter with them, without there being a clear reason why lol :P

True. Usually to get on HoH takes the most boring strategy and some treasure stealing from your kingdom-mates who did all the work, while you were farming.

Muffin, you need to know what type of player you would like to be and ask the person who are good at that type of strategy. For example, Eddo is a good player but what he says apply to his strategy style:

"You need to farm as much as possible if you are able to. Otherwise you will never keep up."

That sentence apply best to human, elf, and dwarf. Other race does not need prolong farming to succeed.

My orc strategy for example require me to stop farming completely 20-24 ticks before oop. It is a high risk high reward strategy though that require regular to good activity to succeed. You either succeed or fail big time.

ive been around for years......

and ive never placed in HoH on Fant or mant. its not because im not a good player. im an decent player.

i dont play to get on HoH. i mean yea. i laugh when i get on HoH. its a pleasant suprise.

Keep playing Fant if you want to get good, you have to play against and with the best to learn how to tweak your game play.  Best thing Zeta did for me was to drop my n00b azz on Fant to get slaughtered by Lew OOP lol

First of all, Highscores mean absolutely nothing. But if you want to be first there, just simply go with Halfers, they are good for keeping score. Even an average player like me can do well, even without being too active. Halflings score best in the game, and if you manage to take some war spoils, and combine that with building your own towns, training armies, you should end up being very high on Highscores. Hell you do not even have to be a good player, I managed to win last Stara age, and if I can do it, everyone can.

You can be good player as long as you can hold up on your own and at least against some people at least.

I am happy to know that  The Great Bihn thinks I'm a good player =)

Lol, Lew. That sounds interesting. I've never farmed, except for my first era. I was trying to get used to the game.

I think a decent proportion should rely on kingdom, but you also need to have a level of independence. AKA you build with your core, and when you're in a fight, make forward armories when in a war and when needed, communicate with your team and help them when they ask for help.

and muffin man, i suggest play in small active KDs so you have to work together.  thats how i got to be half way decent, but ive been playing this game for probably around 4 years and i still wouldn't say i'm "good"
