I respect The Gladiator cause he recruited with surprising skill 0.o mostly extreme pestering. Fizban cause hes a fellow God.....Wizard. Erunion cause well WE ALL NEeD A FANCY PANTS ELF! Mielo cause he was nice to me today :D Erm...I don't respect Carnage nor PKS...Or the ones I met anyways.

22:33:15 Jan 8th 08 - Mr. Bayushi Clamps:

People wouldn't talk to each other in rl the way it goes down on forums. They are safe at their computer desks, which is good because the way some people carry on here would garner them a fierce crack in the jaw in rl =p

@cows: reporter bias, for every loudmouth there's 30 who read without posting.

03:32:16 Jan 17th 08 - Sir Soc:

i read, i posted.

good day all.

cobra, maybe try to be a little nicer? if instead of flaming, u could just not post? i do remember when i was a nooob and u shot down an idea i had (it was truely a dumb one) and i nearly cut my wrist. then, i remembered i wasn't emo and continued playing. but, for all those that can't remember if they aren'y emos, we may lose some players................. :(

04:08:41 Jan 17th 08 - Mr. Odysseus:

First of all, being a newb means just that..."being a newb".  Those "obvious suggestions" are a good thing, because it shows that a player is trying to improve the game or is willing to understand why a certain article shouldn't be improved.  The "newb interest" is an important asset to ANY game, because without it, the game will eventually wither and die away.

Any "new player" has to learn and understand the game and the game will grow stronger if we encourage this and stop the flaming of new players.  If you think useless suggestions are bad and detract from the truly innovative ones, then suggest a way to fix this.  Perhaps a voting/rating system in some particular sub-forums?

Fellatio, like normal, your arguments are weak.  However, in this case, you are attacking that very essence that keeps a game alive and vital.  Can you please think of something positive to add?

05:02:53 Jan 17th 08 - Mr. Bayushi Clamps:

A thousand thanks for putting it so eloquently. It takes class to respond to disrespect with reason and a positive tone. We ask where the respect is, and I guess the answer is "a little bit here and there".

05:12:11 Jan 17th 08 - Mr. Floppy Tankmage:

@odysseus: why should someone have to write a three-paragraph response to "d00d there should be boats"? if the idea takes 30 seconds to invent, i don't like that the response should be significantly longer on a regular basis.

"If you think useless suggestions are bad and detract from the truly innovative ones, then suggest a way to fix this.  Perhaps a voting/rating system in some particular sub-forums?"
I did, others liked the idea. Zeta ignored me/us, and neither being a vet nor a mod helped. Your move.

15:15:52 Jan 17th 08 - Pirate Lewatha:

Wow, didn't believe I'd actually say this, but I agree with Cobra/Fellatio.

This is just a game, if you're about to cut yourself over a suggestion of yours being flamed, you should definetly have a thought of what your life has become.

Seeing boats as a suggestion, every era, sometimes even twice or three times. Could get pretty anoying!

Note, I'm not saying that new players can't suggest stuff anymore. I'm just saying, that if they're too lazy to check down 10 threads, where the exact same idea is listed. They should be flamed.

15:27:35 Jan 17th 08 - Sir Tnega Htims:

Ms F, some people (I've heard) like to use these forums to get useful information and ideas.  Why do they have to wade through your page-long flames? Could Admin delete the above off-topic rant please so we can get back to the discussion in hand - Mr Might's list of who he respects and why?

16:14:24 Jan 17th 08 - Lord of The Dawn:

Right. Here's a scenario.

Jon made a mistake.

Jesus: "Let's forgive him and give him a new chance!"
Cobra: "He made a mistake.. KILL HIM!!!"

16:22:19 Jan 17th 08 - Mr. Bayushi Clamps:

IF:

NO, it shows a complete lack of understanding of the game and after seeing the same suggestion 100+ times it's getting to be slightly annoying..

AND:

Such suggestions have been made but ZeTa ignored all of them, like he does it 99% of good suggestions.

THEN

Why in the world do you go to that part of the forum? Obviously Zeta is perfectly able to sift away the bad ideas and he doesn't have to insult anyone. In fact what business do you have with such an air of intelligence when really all you've achieved is many rounds playing an online game? Zeta passes what he wants and ignores the rest and you seem to just hate those threads. We don't need/want you there.

19:28:24 Jan 17th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

ZeTa's ego prevents him from doing anything useful, if you kiss his ass for a bit and tell him how great he is you can have anything implemented.

Why I'm flaming bad ideas you ask? Well because ZeTa is so out of touch with the game and with what needs to be done that bad ideas are actually more likely to get implemented than good ones. If you want an example of such one disaster lets say 3 man kingdoms. Not only was it such an utterly bad idea, but even before he implemented it MANY people told him it's bad but he said it's good. He ended up removing it 2 eras later because many people quit the game because of it.

So no, ZeTa can't tell a good idea from a bad one if it hits him in the face, so somebody has to do it, just look at this era's improvements. While those pictures looked nice for about 5 minutes, they are absolutely horrid when it comes to micromanaging. There are many things broken in the game and what does ZeTa do? He makes pictures...

"We don't need/want you there."

I don't give a *beep* what you need/want, don't like it? Quit.

Whatever you believe, Ms F, it's Zeta's trainset not yours.  You pretty obvioulsy don't like the game so please do everyone a favour and follow your own advice (probably the only helpful thing you've written all era)......

don't like it? Quit.

19:40:30 Jan 17th 08 - Mr. Floppy Tankmage:

it's a fun game, it's just frustrating to the crusty vets because it could be so much better.

Getting a little heated....

Wow you're pretty witty did anyone tell you that before? No? Good.

Just because ZeTa is the admin of the games means nothing, like I said. He's out of touch and has been so for a very long time.

It's amusing to me that you seem to think you know anything about me or what I like or don't like. Making unwarranted assumptions only makes you look like an *beep*.

19:58:21 Jan 17th 08 - Sir Tnega Htims:

"Just because ZeTa is the admin of the games means nothing, like I said. He's out of touch and has been so for a very long time."

Seeing as he's the creator of the game, not just Admin, isn't that a little like saying "Just because Microsoft are the creators of MS Office means nothing".  Which, incidentally, I agree with so I don't use MS Office.  I go elsewhere for my office software I certainly don't run around like a pre-pubescient teenager complaining and telling them how I know best and how they should "fix" it.

If they want their product to fail, it's their business.  If Zeta wants his game to fail, that's his.  But both MS and Zeta must be doing something right because, whatever you think of Zeta and I think of MS, they seem to be doing quite well ;-)

20:43:56 Jan 17th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

What a hilarious analogy, faulty, but hilarious.

1. MS actually is trying to make Office better, they might get things wrong, but they are trying. ZeTa on the other hand is a lazy ass that isn't interested only in the money he gets from the game.

2. Your problem is with Microsoft, not with Office. Only nitpicking Open Sourcers or a Mac fanboy would see inherent evil in anything Microsoft made. Office has good parts and bad parts, just like any program. As does VU, the only problem with VU is that the admin is unwilling to improve.

3. Believe me I've looked for a VU-like game, there isn't one.

4. Just because ZeTa is gaining more money since more people are playing does not mean he's doing anything right. He isn't. People just don't know of his huge ego and unwillingness to fix anything.

So tell me which one are you? Linux or Mac fanboy? You have to be one of them to write up that analogy.

21:11:40 Jan 17th 08 - Lord Oya:

the problem with both of your arguements is that Zeta is a lone programmer with an outside job, microsoft and any other company have many people... i need say no more

21:21:32 Jan 17th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

"the problem with both of your arguements is that Zeta is a lone programmer with an outside job, microsoft and any other company have many people... i need say no more"

I'm unsure if this is true. I know for a fact that when he first made the game there were 3 guys that were coding and since than ZeTa has a tendency to talk in plural form as in: "We're trying to do this or that". But that's besides the point, even if ZeTa is alone that still doesn't mean he shouldn't have the willpower to try to fix things and neither do the improvements are that code heavy.

Changing magic by making more spells actually useful does not require that much coding, but it does require will to do it.

21:25:19 Jan 17th 08 - Lord Oya:

maybe instead of moaning about it, bring up actual suggestions that in the past seem to be ignored. bring them up more often so that the suggestion pages are filled with good suggestions more so than the same "boats!!!" suggestions. if it is a matter of will power then those who are willing to complain should be willing to do more useful things.

21:28:45 Jan 17th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

I did actually make some suggestions, this era even about how the game could be fixed. Did ZeTa even look at it? Highly doubtful, he didn't post in it anyway.

I'm not going to waste my time *beep*ing the same suggestion all over the place hoping ZeTa will actually read it once.

21:32:01 Jan 17th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

wow... *beep* is censured. wtf?

EDIT: You've got to be *beep*ting me, I can't even write it using - or .'s.

22:34:16 Jan 17th 08 - Sir Tnega Htims:

So tell me which one are you? Linux or Mac fanboy? You have to be one of them to write up that analogy.

Long time PC user (probably longer than you've been out of nappies* from the way you try to argue), starting with DOS 2.0, through all Windows versions to date, but also Linux and a little Solaris, Unix, Amiga OS and BBC (inc assembler)  for fun.

So you'll be a "Computerz meenz windoze cuz Bill gates sez so and I can't handle nething harder than that" type then?

Oh, and Lord O, that was kinda the point I was trying to make - his game, his decisions.  And his work that keeps it going.

* Daipers for all you Americanos out there :P

22:45:23 Jan 17th 08 - Sir Tnega Htims:

Oh, since you asked, no-one's been reprimanding spam (censure: to criticise harshly; to reprimand or rebuke ).

It may well be censored though ;-)

22:49:34 Jan 17th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

"Long time PC user (probably longer than you've been out of nappies* from the way you try to argue), starting with DOS 2.0, through all Windows versions to date, but also Linux and a little Solaris, Unix, Amiga OS and BBC (inc assembler)  for fun."

What did I tell you about making assumptions?

"So you'll be a "Computerz meenz windoze cuz Bill gates sez so and I can't handle nething harder than that" type then?"

Hardly, but I'm not a Linux or Mac fanboy either, but I have used Linux and OS X. I just don't think everything Microsoft does is evil or that everything Apple does is a godsend.

"Oh, and Lord O, that was kinda the point I was trying to make - his game, his decisions.  And his work that keeps it going."

And how does the fact that he made the game protect him from criticism? If ZeTa would ask for a list of the major problems in the game and with a couple of possible ways to fix them I'd be the first one to post, but I've stopped wasting time trying to get him to see there's a problem.

23:12:59 Jan 17th 08 - Sir Tnega Htims:

What did I tell you about making assumptions?

Would that be before or after you assumed I "have to be" a Linux or Mac fan-boy?  Or, if it comes to that, assumed that Zeta actually cares about what you think of the game?  Maybe he's got enough happy players for one who's so obviously up their own arrse about knowing how it "should be done" to not really matter to him? ;-)

23:26:58 Jan 17th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

"Would that be before or after you assumed I "have to be" a Linux or Mac fan-boy?  Or, if it comes to that, assumed that Zeta actually cares about what you think of the game?  Maybe he's got enough happy players for one who's so obviously up their own arrse about knowing how it "should be done" to not really matter to him? ;-)"

Oh I never said ZeTa cares about what I think, that's actually the problem. If he cared regardless of if he agreed or not he's do something, as it is he's just a lazy ass admin.

It's quite clear that he doesn't care about how it "should be done" if he did he'd at least be interested in finding out about it. Doesn't mean he'd agree with it.

But just like he doesn't care I can just flame him for stupidity and laziness, see how that works out?

"Would that be before or after you assumed I "have to be" a Linux or Mac fan-boy?"

The way you formed that analogy sounded exactly like a fanboy, I've seen enough to recognize one when I see it, just that in this case it might not be true is irrelevant.

Anyway this entire debate is irrelevant, I'll flame who I want when I want of what I want, if for no other reason except that it's fun. Don't like it? Don't post retarded suggestions. There is no such thing as "give respect", the entire concept is false.

23:50:01 Jan 17th 08 - Sir Tnega Htims:

I'll flame who I want when I want of what I want, if for no other reason except that it's fun.

My god, we agree on something! Zeta, please please please delete this thread before word gets out!!!! :P

I respect Spoon for being a thing of importance. I respect Oya for being with me in times of need! [DON'T YOU DARE THINK WHAT IM THINKING YOUR THINKING!]

00:14:45 Jan 18th 08 - Lord of The Dawn:

Last I heard,
ZeTa is in college (?) and actually rarely works on VU.

However, VU brining him lots of money? Are you kidding?
There's a total of some 2 people that donate him 10$ a month.
With some what, unique 500 hits a day? That's 15k hits a month. With 1% clickthrough (and I doubt that...), for 0,50 cents an ad, that's 75$ a month.
Consider the server expenses. Should be around 30$ a month?
Average pay is 10-15$ a month(in italy at least..) so he should be working 3-4 hours a month on VU. That's probably the time he spends on administration...

I do agree he doesn't spend enough time on it though... rarely even replies on msn!
What ZeTa really lacks is motivation. There's no single thing he can improve that will change the game greatly. Many small improvements will, but that's not very inspiring..

Everybody makes mistakes. It's just that microsoft makes them more obvious (and maybe plentier).

01:31:35 Jan 18th 08 - Mr. Floppy Tankmage:

i don't know what's changed, but once upon a time some players bought BTs on a pretty regular basis for explicit use against LGC. not only that, look at all the custom titles floating around.

06:00:34 Jan 18th 08 - Lord of The Dawn:

Yes but those are one-time-fees.
They paid you the 30$ and that's it.

Would still make less than 100$ a month

ps. I didn't read the rest of the thread.

16:19:42 Jan 19th 08 - Ms. Fellatio:

Hahahaha .. this from the guy that just suggested boats. This is just to ironic to even make fun of.

17:51:10 Jan 19th 08 - Mr. Odysseus:

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with suggesting boats.

17:57:24 Jan 19th 08 - Prince Mielo:

Indeed, nothing wrong with the same suggestion over and over and over and .... again, do not even think of feeling frustrated!

18:23:09 Jan 19th 08 - Mr. Odysseus:

It just tests a certain virtue...patience.  Is that so challenging?  You could choose to ignore the *bad* ideas.  Personally, I see nothing wrong with "boats" although it would be hard to implement and completely change the game balance.

Technically, Nazguls should be able to fly over water, and Cavemasters perhaps should be able to go across mountains, but once again it improvements the balance of the game.

19:31:07 Jan 19th 08 - Prince Mielo:

Neighter do I, except when they start using my name in their *beep*ed up ideas and start brambling crap :)

19:58:58 Jan 19th 08 - Mr. Odysseus:

Haha, I said it "improvements the balance of the game"...I meant "improvements the balance of the game".

Well, using your name does tend to get you personally involved :).

20:12:31 Jan 19th 08 - Mr. Floppy Tankmage:

i see odysseus has discovered one of zeta's forum scripts.

the simplest reason that boats are bad is that water plays a huge role in terrain defense and being able to circumvent it with ANY ease makes virtually every map tactically useless.
