07:19:22 Mar 29th 09 - Mr. Moonshine:
Plus Buddhism is pretty much about the human aspects and the control of the human mind and soul. To search for the right chosen path through meditation and self-control.
Christianity goes beyond everything. The human control, the obedience of rules and living throughout the sins we may make throughout our lives. Jesus was the son of God, a representative of how God may have been to be if he was in down here as a Human or whatever.
We believe how we wanted to believe... yes i have mixed combines views and beliefs of both Christianity and Buddhism, but it has made me a better person than the one-dimension thought of one religion.

10:34:00 Mar 29th 09 - Mr. Rambutan:
Anyone that chooses one religion and sticks to it by the word is a fool. Most religions are corrupt and outdated. And the most popular ones are hypocritical and dishonest.
Jesus was not the son of God, he was just another one of the MANY "messiahs" that were roaming around the Mediterranean Sea-area during that time. Look up them up, Wikipedia even has a list of claimed messiahs. These nutcases were all over the place back then. One, "Horus" who came hundreds of years before Jesus:
healed the blind and sick raised the dead walked on water had 12 disciples Was crucified rose on the third day. You would have to be stupid to believe some of the crap Christians spew all the time. If you believe there is a God, fine. But stop thinking you have to go to church and drink Jesus' blood to be a Christian. The modern church is a corrupt, ritualistic, and ignorant establishment. If so many people were not brought up to go to church every Sunday, they would see through all this bullshiit. You really think a "merciful" God created a place of fiery torture for all those that didn't follow his big list of "10 things you shouldn't do". Or that we all came from two naked teenagers that pissed off God by eating an apple? GROW UP

17:26:07 Mar 29th 09 - Mr. Duneidinaman II:
Ms. Jade,
- Christ existed before the foundations of the earth were created! He always was in heaven from the beginning of time before budda, hindiuism, islam, jehovah witnesses, etc. When Adam and Eve fell/sinned from God's grace the plan was already in the making for Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son to die for humankind.

17:52:44 Mar 29th 09 - Mr. Hemelduiker:
i bet santa was first ... who else would have given presents to god when he was still a kid?

17:58:17 Mar 29th 09 - Ms. Jade:
Like I said that's your opinion. Myself and everyone else can believe or not believe in whatever they want to.
|
18:03:04 Mar 29th 09 - Mr. Rambutan:
That Duneidinaman clearly didn't read anything I posted. Jesus was a joke, he was one of many "messiahs" with the same story at the time. And if you really believe we came from two nude teenagers on a fruit farm with a talking snake, wow.
|
19:20:40 Mar 29th 09 - Mr. Nemesis:
That'd make us all blood related wouldnt it?
|
19:26:51 Mar 29th 09 - Mr. Hemelduiker:
incestuous ... we're all going to hell!
|
01:37:46 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Rambutan:
lol, and supposedly, Adam and Eve had two SONS, so who did they get it on with?
|
01:39:56 Mar 30th 09 - Demonslayer Scientist:
If you read everything literally, you are no smarter than people hit in the face with a hammer and suffering brain damage. There is such a thing called reading hidden undertones and meanings. You can find them in many many non-religious books even. You just have to think and not just look at the words and letters.
|
04:28:48 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Duneidinaman II:
At the start of the human race, there was incest and Cain had sex with his sister. But at that time the Mosaic Law wasn't yet written. So it wasn't bad back then.

Matthew 19:21-24 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Egyptian sun disks became the halos of Catholic saints. Pictograms of Isis nursing her miraculously conceived son Horus became the blueprint for our modern images of the Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus. And virtually all the elements of the Catholic ritual - the miter, the altar, the doxology, and communion, the act of "God-eating" - were taken directly from earlier pagan mystery religions. Nothing in Christianity is original. The pre-Christian God Mithras - called the Son of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity's weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans.

06:12:38 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Rambutan:
There's to many people responding now to get back to all of them, so if I missed one of your arguments against me please forgive me (after all, you're religious, pray for me or something).
1. I said most religions are corrupt, you don't even need to read between the lines to get that one, it's right there in my post, go ahead, scroll up you m0ron.
2. If you don't wish to take the bible seriously fine, but you either take it seriously are you don't. I hate people that in one breathe say "well you have to read between the lines, that's not what they mean" but in the next breathe use something in the bible to base their mannerisms, or how they think others should act. If you accept it as the WORD OF GOD and you accept that YOUR GOD IS PERFECT, you have to take it all. But modern day Christians know they can't get people to buy ALL the stupid shiit in the bible, so they take bits and peices of it. hypocritical motherfuuckers.
3. I saw religulous, but it was awhile back, I researched the many claimed messiahs myself, and you are more than welcome to google them and see that I'm not lying.
Organized religion= almost always crap Bible= a collection of stories, interpret it how you want, but don't tell me in one breath that I need to base my life on the Bible, and be "saved" and in the next breath tell me that I can't insult the Bible because it's outdated.
Religous people get enormously defensive about their precious little religions, and their comfortable, if ignorant, beliefs. This argument rages on between the greatest minds of society, we're not going to make any breakthroughs on the VU forums, for that reason, I will no longer be responding to this thread, or reading it for that matter.
|
06:19:07 Mar 30th 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley:
Wow, that was the worse post ever. Try not to think so literally or else you fail. Okai? Thanks! Bye! You cannot even spell so your post drops in quality. Go ahead and google the ".com" sources that are just people's opinions. Google is American biased. Bravo for that knowledge. I read the Bible but I will not take it literally because you will be so narrow minded that you will be a complete m0r0n. You have to think outside the box, which must be something you struggle with. Try NOT to think literally and you may advance a few steps. That is why America will be become some crappy athiest society because a few people whine and complain.
|
06:24:37 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Red Knight:
Wow, never seen this topic before.... I hate seeing arguements like this, it really does get to me.
I'm a christian. I'm a christian because I can feel it :) Everything I've ever seen backs it up. Every part of the world I can see, feel, touch, all of it reflects my beliefs. I've seen people alive who by all scientific tests and laws shouldn't be alive. Lots of people refute Christians and call us hypocrites and all that. You know why that is? Because christian's love to ride the rail and keep everyone happy. It's easier that way. But any christian who believes in *beep* rights, abortion, etc. cannot call themselves a christian. If you want to be a christian you have to follow the word. Modifying the word to feel better won't work;)
It says in the bible that homosexualty is a sin. It says it in multiple places. And yet christians(ex. Barack Obama) refuse to believe it because it upsets people. Same thing with abortion. If I randomly walk up to someone in the street and shoot him in the head, I'll get life in jail or killed. If a doctor goes in and kills that same person as an infant, why is that any different than what I did besides the fact that your killing an innocent child rather than a sinful adult??? And all this evolution bull that people love to cling to is still known as the "Theory" of Evolution and will always continue as just a theory. But for some reason its taught as fact at schools while religious and creationist theories are not allowed to be taught. Why? Because it makes people uncomfortable.
People with mixed beliefs and mixed religions, your screwed :P There is no riding the fence and there never has been. I hate seeing that stuff as it shows you use religion as an excuse or as something to cling to to make your life less miserable. I'll give you a hint as to why your miserable, riding the fence doesn't work ;) You either give it your all and follow all of it, or you remain in your misery.
p.s. All the predictions in the bible came true and continue to come true, our messiah rose again, alive after being killed. What other religion can compare to that ;)

06:28:21 Mar 30th 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley:
Calm down Red. Religious debate is not needed here....I may continue it but I guess I should say we should all tale a chill pill and figure out wth this topic is REALLY about

06:29:35 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Rambutan:

I'm done in here:P Just wanted to give my little piece. I always get a little to excited in these threads because I really do hate to see them :S
|
06:39:13 Mar 30th 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley:
My post failed? Lol you don't have anything to back up yours. You say you HAVE to be one way or another, but I say differently. Your ideas are extreme and say that you must be one way or another. A problem with this? Yes! Extremism. Go join the terrorists because they believe in fundamentalism. That is extremism in one way or another. I believe in balance between ways and not being literal in my understanding of things. Obviously this transcends your thoughts and is a little complex for your brain so I will slow it down for you.
|
06:43:47 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Rambutan:
I actually typed up an argument, but it would be hypocritical to continue arguing my point after I said I would not. Plus, making posts like yours are just to easy, here, I'll give an example:
lol. you're completely incompetent, you have no idea what your talking about, and your mother smells like fish.
K thnx bai
See how easy that is^
anyways have fun finding someone else to argue with, if that's what you want to call that ^
LOL: just read your edits, I should join terrorists, and I'm to incompetent to understand your meaningless gibberish. Whatever demonslayer, have you been taking lessons from Cobra? You basically just said that right wing liberals are the same as left-wing conservatives EPIC FAIL
Oh and I'm going to bed now, so spend lots of time looking up big words, then make a post that "transcends" my thought pattern. Be sure to include these words:
fail stupid. American kthxbai
good luck. I'll read it tomorrow for the lulz

14:03:51 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Formatieduiker:
every religion is like a fairytale ... if you choose to believe them ... then don't take a job in which you have to make serious decisions ...
all 'believers' are delusional ...
|
14:19:15 Mar 30th 09 - Ms. Dark Angel:
Now...from a TRUE non believer...I will refute every claim made in the bible with cold hard fact.
According to the Roman Catholic church, the earth was created just over 6 thousand years ago. Science shot that in the foot by carbon dating to show it is now billions of years old.
Noahs Ark, used to save us by protecting the male/female specimen of every plant, animal and organ on earth, built by Noah and his 4 sons using primitive carpentry tools, would need to be the size of 3 aircraft carriers, which in modern times take on average 4 years to build. Its displacement in water as a result of its weight would be the size of wales, making it near impossible to float, thus turning it into the first known motionless submarine.
The original dead sea scrolls claim that Jesus was born during the time of the Roman Empires census period., where every family were to return to the hometown of the male member. The Roman Census in the region was ALWAYS taken during the spring, to allow an accurate taxation of lands, based on harvestings. That would have made Jesus' birth date in June, not December. The Dead Sea scolls, confiscated by the Catholic church, also claim that Christ had 16 followers, of which 9 Gospels were written. Of those 9 Gospels, only 4 were ever presented.
Historical documents pertaining to activities of the Roman Empires Easterns provinces, show that during the period of Jesus' life, there were upwards of 70 people claiming to be the Messiah. There names were listed alongside those of 300 people most wanted for extremist activities. Top of that list was a Right wing Judaic extremist, by the name of Barabas, who's exploits in the region included the murder of upwards of 100 Roman soldiers, a crime punishment by death. Yet it was this extremsist murderer who was released by the Romans, at the behest of the people. This is the modern equivelant of releasing Bin Laden in favour of crucifying the Dali Lama.
Get real.

17:32:55 Mar 30th 09 - Lord Lord of The Flies:
I do agree with the part about the Democrats though, being a democrat myself, I was really disappointed with Clinton and the way he was letting EVERYONE get a loan. This makes it so hard for someone like me now, I don't claim to have immaculate credit because I never found the need for building a ton. I got a car and paid it off. Never found the need for a Credit Card, because if I don't have the money I won't buy it. Cell phones, contrary to popular belief, only report the the credit bureaus if you don't pay. So now at 26 because I never bothered putting a getting a bunch of credit, I have 720 credit score (which is in the avg range, i think) and can't get a loan for a home with less than 10-15% down :(.
I don't know about other countries, (although I would like the imput from those in other countries) but american rely their whole lives on credit. Homes, cars, bills, pretty much everything we own and up until a few years back it was all too easy to get yourself in a HUGE hole and you could wipe it clean with bankrupcy. Thats why, IMO USofA has such a huge debt. We borrow and never pay back.
|
17:34:14 Mar 30th 09 - Lord Lord of The Flies:
P.S everytime I go to get a loan, they say that I haven't established enough credit :) LOL
|
23:38:22 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Innovator:
hehe nice flies :P yep, this holds true for all Americans that i know of... not sure how it works in other countries :p anyhow just would like to say a few things...
Morality is a biaaatch ... yep i said it... those who are weak, or poorer come to hate those who are rich and strong.... this is all they can do since there is a reason why the rich are as they are.... They are smarter, stronger, or were born with many talents that the poor did not... true, hardwork can pay off, but there is a limit to what you can do with hardwork... and dont think the elite arent working hard as well... they work just as hard to get what they can within their own limits
America is superior.... they became a strong and vibrant nation through hardwork and talent. Now that they have gained so much and have such a better life style and standard of living than the rest of thew world, and for this this the rest of the world is mad at them because they couldnt compete.... for this i have one thing to say... ITS NOT A CRIME TO BE SUPERIOR... and for those in the rest of the world who choose to hate americans for this and to kick and slander them when they are down is quite revealing of your true nature as humans.... you are no better than the people you accuse of being curropt and greedy so stop acting so high and morally....
We are in a race, a race to the survival of the fittest... those who cannot compete will fall into limited survival only created by the morality safety-net this world has created for them. But none the less, the superior will raise to the top and the rest of the world will hate them for this.
(end... ps: >.> isnt this against forum rules :P talk about religion >.> wtf mods...)

23:46:58 Mar 30th 09 - Mr. Theophilus VIII:
Firstly, Im not going to even USE the word Christianity. My name alone Means friend of God. I love God, his son Jesus, and the sacrifice he made. I follow the example set by Jesus and as tought by his followers and the words they wrote down 2000 years ago. I am proud to say that we have kept such good count of it for all these years.
Too often people have taken his message and used it for things it shouldn't be, such as crusading. The main point of Jesus's message was this:
Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and Strength, and To Love others as you Love yourself. IF you follow those two, you are right with him. There is nothing corrupt in what I do or in that belief. That is why I will call myself a Christ Follower, a disciple of Jesus. If someone doesn't follow those tennants, then they are not Christ Followers, and inherently, not 'Christians', but hypocrites. It is individuals who are hypocritical, not everyone. I wont try and win people over to my side, as my mission field isn't a game forum.

05:35:24 Apr 3rd 09 - Ms. Angel Fire:
Its a standard financial event...not armageddon. All markets be it the global market or the local stone market, corrects. It looks at the value of something, and decides if its worth the investment. If its not, then the supply demand factor switches. Sometimes its minor corrections, which happen two or three times a year, and occassionally it is extreme. In 3 years time, everybody will be swearing blind that property is the best investetment you can make.
|
06:04:56 Apr 3rd 09 - Lord Zany Zorander:
@Dark Angel (because I'm bored)
The thing about the 6k year old earth - not a claim made by the Bible, or held by all Christians.
Noah's Ark - supposedly it took about 100 years to build. As to the calculations of how big it should be: I'm pretty sure they forgot to factor in evolution.
If your definition of Christianity and the Bible is Roman Catholicism, you're ignoring a huge population.
Suppose you were a governor in a territory known for uprisings and general hostility towards the occupying force, and the people - these riotous people who sometimes seemed to live for rebellions - decided that they wanted you to release to them the more violent of two criminals. According to the law of your land, both men are criminals. You're leagues from home, and if the people revolt, who knows whether or not you would live to see it through. No one ruling over you cares about either of these men. What would you do?
This is not to say that I'm a religious person. My point is that if you are going to claim "cold, hard fact" and spout arguments that are logically flawed, then you might as well start arguing against yourself, because your arguments are based on either ignorance or trust (maybe even...faith) in whoever taught them to you.

DARK ANGEL STARTED IT!
Also, I wasn't making it a religious discussion; I was making it a discussion about the importance of knowing your stuff when you're going to argue something!
|
11:06:36 Apr 3rd 09 - Ms. Angel Fire:
Zany...you got your name right, because your argument is flawed to the point of ridiculous. I present fact ie: The earths age is accepted into the Churches doctrine, as its age was originally predetermined by one of its own scholars.
An elephants size 6k years ago and what it is today is not far out, thus allowing an accurate extimate on the square footage required to accomodate 2 of every specimen on earth. Not sure what you mean by "Evolution" because its a process you lot have been refuting until it serves a "purpose" ie: 6k years ago elephants were really tiny, enabling them to be shipped easier.
And finally...the topic is world bankruptcy. Get an original idea, get facts to support your argument then come play with those in the know. Till then, go

Angel Fire, your ideas are not original; they are arguments that I have heard many times. Like I said, I am not of religious persuasion, but I do see the need to argue using things that are real.
Like I said before, your definition of "Church" was flawed from the beginning (see my first post). Doctrine varies from denomination to denomination, and all (well, some would say most) of these denominations are part of the "Church." I could introduce you to people who hold to the 6k-year-old earth (and then probably go away and leave you to be tortured, because there are times when I just can't listen to the absurdity), and to others who say it's billions of years old. But, I guess the fact that the "Church" encompasses a plethora of denominations with different doctrines isn't enough fact for you.
Also, elephants were really tiny 6k years ago, as well as a million years ago, as well as they are today...when they're babies. But that idea usually doesn't cross people's minds. I do not claim that this is how it happened (or that it happened), but that's actually the argument that some use to say that dinosaurs were on the Ark (bwahahahaha).
The beauty of evolution is that if the earth starts with one family (say Felidae), from that genus (given enough time), it can breed a plethora of new species (all of the cats you can think of), thus requiring less space on a large boat designed to repopulate the earth. As to the 6k years, see above. Again, doctrine varies; to some (that entire population you are ignoring), development of the earth and other things of science are not explained by religion.
And finally...the topic is world bankruptcy. Get an original idea, get facts to support your argument (or, rather, the argument you borrowed that's been floating around for hundreds of years, and that no longer applies to many today because people have realized the need to not define science by religion) then play with those in the know. Till then, go.
