VU vs. U
02:55:34 Jan 15th 09 - Mr. Darkond:

Is Visual Utopia the same as Utopia at http://utopia.swirve.com/ ? I just found it, I am seeing a lot of similarities .

02:57:00 Jan 15th 09 - Mr. Barney:

VU is a lot more visual.

03:00:53 Jan 15th 09 - Sir Stirlin:

VU is alot better then Utopia, if you wanted to play that game you should have started a few years ago, when it was in its prime.

03:01:15 Jan 15th 09 - Mr. Darkond:

I just started it.

03:01:29 Jan 15th 09 - Mr. Darkond:

Is it related in any way?

03:28:17 Jan 15th 09 - Duke Michael Deallus:

*Facepalms* Like Barney said.

04:07:40 Jan 15th 09 - Mr. Sloth:

I played Utopia when it first started.....

Visual Utopia >>>>> Utopia which is basically a text game.

Word on the street is that VU was in its prime a year ago, too...

04:56:13 Jan 15th 09 - Duke Michael Deallus:

You can get other stuff on the street but you don't see me mentioning it here >.>

05:02:53 Jan 15th 09 - Sir Hirgon Sadron:

Oh, really?  Enlighten me.

VU has more V than U

07:07:55 Jan 15th 09 - Dark Lord Finwe:

Utopia is a far less destructive game to play. you can log in once a day or go a couple of days without logging in and you wont die if you lose a war :p

07:53:42 Jan 15th 09 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

yeah, but on the other hand about 90% of the players use programs to count stuff and spy on people...its kinda dumb when a game gets so dominated by external programs that you practically cant play it without them lol.

ps. I tried quit some time ago, got tired when had to use these programs where you just filled in stats from the enemy and it counted out how many troops you had to send and such, no exitment when you know what will happen...

08:21:32 Jan 15th 09 - Mr. Sloth:

the last time i played utopia in era 4 or 5, i was attacked by hundreds of players in a span of just a few hours.  they killed me completely.. and it was fairly late-era....  it was rather funny, my news filled around 50 pages.

VU is much better in that simple numbers aren't enough.  it's far more... non-linear... since there are distances and time other such 2D strategies to consider ;-)

12:01:28 Feb 5th 09 - Mr. Barny:

Is Utopia the kind of game you need to have started in like day 1 to get a foothold on?

17:47:05 Feb 5th 09 - Mr. Iridium:

Dont know what you mean by a foothold, Utopia is nothing like VU, practically impossible to kill someone now and large kds wont bother with small ones since they cant gain anything.

12:07:52 Feb 7th 09 - Mr. Ghouma:

When I started playing Utopia 10 years ago, you could still do alot of random landgrabbs, now you hardly can attack people on your own but it has to be kingdom wars. At that time everyone didn't have everything in their realm completly worked out mathematichly and what matterd was sheer size (newworth). Now its completly differnt, everyone wants to have mathematichly optimized realms and go for high honour instead of getting huge.

Being twelve years and doing your own battle calculations based on shady intel was awesome. Utopia used to have something really magical about it, but it dissapeared as everyone got programs and made it into a science.

02:14:18 Mar 6th 09 - Swedish chef Brashen:

VU is a like a spin of of Utopia.

Zeta and most of the beta players were active utopian players.

I tried VU lots of times and never got stuck since it was unbalanced and had to many bugs, so I kept on playing utopia on and on sometimes in elite kd´s and sometimes as a member of elite guilds, and lots of times as creator of ambitiuous kingdoms that sometimes almost reached my goals (got second place in war wins the second era with my kd Dreadlands when the goal was first place and of course in the elite server, my longest relation was in TiC= The inner Circle which was a kd that took its name after the number of eras it existed I think we ended on XXII hard to say if it was my fault but our last era I was king again and we were dominating the elite server when all core players including me burned out or got RL isues and we disbanded= better to play for fun then to be best)

So to make a short story long or hmm or how was it.......

I went over from having utopia as my main game and VU as a side show to having VU as my dedicated game and utopia as a side show and then quit utopia totally since it was to static and not as warlike as VU.

So VU is a virtual improvment of Utopia that been created by our god ZETA.

ps utopia got alittle boring when it almost became impossible to kill people in other kingdoms ( I remember when I was one of the major magicians in the game and my king wanted me to lead my mages to kill the major attacker in a kd before we went to war with them(yes 1-3 good mages could kill players then) and I said sure just checked the intel and sent out the orders and a time to start, then just a couple of minutes b4 it was killing time I noticed it was Roxbury my RL friend who I played with lots in both utopia and VU, + its against the rules to chose who is supposed to be in your kindom = you trade accounts to become a good kd and then all the sudden half the kd is deleted because its cheating acording to the god of utopia Mehul. or u play in a crappy kingdom with players who dont give a damn.
