i get that walls are more expensive but really?

It costs 1638 gold, 409 tree and 409 stone ( 6552 for walls) to build one building.

As you build more buildings, acquire more cities, or as the game progresses, building costs and building time increases. The maximum number for building time is 100 hours; however, there is no cap on building costs.
