First Contact |
This is an RP, not a story, so please join. This is set far in the future of the Kerait Trilogy: Wartorn, Return of Kerait, and A Call to Arms. You don't need to read those stories, as I will just make a synopsis on what happened (for A Call to Arms, I will simply make an estimate of what would've happened and go from there. This story is about first contact, that's all I will say, I don't want to spoil it. Now, please make a character sheet. You can either be a Keraitian Councilman as the Democracy established at the end of Return to Kerait has been replaced (the Council consists of fifteen men, all of great importance and intellect, such as the Chairman of Kerait, the High General of the Army, the Grand Admiral of the Navy, the Director of the Keraitian Intelligence Service, and several Lords (there are now Lords, they don't control cities, they are merely men of great prominence that hold public posts). You can also be a soldier, and can be anything except the High General, Grand Admiral, and the Director of the KIS. You can also be a normal citizen. I will play the role of several different NPCs as well as my character.
Characters (NPCs) Chairman Maxwell Benson - Once a power hungry Lord, he came to power by overthrowing the former chairman, George Johnson, and taking the position of Chairman. High General Frank Gomez - A gifted land tactician, he is able to coordinate forces with extreme skill. He was once a member of the Dragons, the personal guard force of the Chairman. Grand Admiral Bart Candor - A natural space Commander and Supreme Commander of the Keraitian Navy. He is a man with a dry sense of humor and a code of honor that has made him respected by his men, but disliked by almost everybody else. Director Howard Grayson - Director of the Kerait Intelligence Service. He is cunning, intelligent, and somewhat cold.
More will be introduced of course! But these are the only ones of importance so far. Here's the character sheet:
Character: Age: Affiliation: Description Family:
|
Character: Commander Marcus "Mark" Septim Age: 24 Affiliation: Keraitian Navy Description: Descendant of the legendary James "Dragonheart" Septim. He is strong believer in the system of Democracy. He is one of the most celebrated Keraitian soldiers, and is in command of a small StarFrigate called the KS Dragonfire. The Dragonfire is the first ship to use the revolutionary Nexon Drive System, which allows it to travel the distance between systems in a matter of hours. It also has a signature masking device, which renders it nearly invisible to most Keraitian Tracking Systems... Family: Father: Wesley Septim Mother: Mary Septim Sister: Jane Septim Brother: John "Jack" Septim
|
Character: William Reveritt Age: 37 Affiliation: Leader of the Gold Dragons (can I? :-D) Description: William Reveritt was given the position fo Leader of the Gold Dragons after his father, Cole, died. So far, he has been a great leader and a very wise strategist. Family: Father: Cole Reveritt (deceased) Mother: Anna Reveritt (Age: 91) Brother: Leroy Reveritt (Grand Admiral)
Woooot!
|
Grand Admiral? Bart Candor is the Grand Admiral! And the Gold Dragons are no longer used as special forces, they are now mainly personal guards for the Chairman. So if you want that, go right ahead. By the way, this is about one hundred years after A Call to Arms, so being the son of Cole is a bit weird.
|
Character: William Reveritt Age: 37 Affiliation: Commander Description: William Reveritt was given the position for Commander after his father, Cole, died. So far, he has been a great leader and a very wise strategist. Family: Father: Cole Reveritt II (deceased) Mother: Anna Reveritt (Age: 91) Brother: Leroy Reveritt (Private)
Damn, I can't do anything today. >_>

I've decieded that everybody had better just start off as a Commander or lower. I'll have ya work for your rank dammit. XD
And Demonsul, 200 elite commandos is a bit much...how about fifty. And cloaking devices are not yet around, they only have signature masking devices, which don't physically cloak your vessel, but they make them harder to find with their tracking devices.

[Fine, but I get better lightspeed. Because Reduced forces=reduced additional crew=reduced ships. and >5 ships of corvette or lower is only a squad.]

Demonsul strode around the control bridge of the lead corvette. It was depressing, he hadn't done anything at all recently. It was as if the world had no longer any need of mercenary forces. Looking out through the wide front window, Demonsul saw the endless expanse of space, the occasional star frozen in it's depths, like pinpricks of ice. Taking the hydraulic lift back to his quarters, Demonsul continued to wait for a call that would put him in motion. Little did he know, there was a large chain of events coming, and a place for him would soon arrive.
[[Found it! I made this thing ages ago, the original GIF showing a Frontier corvette. My guy drives a modified version of this.]]
|
Chief Petty Officer Gordon Kyphus sat in the hanger bay of the Large Assault Frigate Typhoon, that was comandeered by his brother.
Captain Felix Kyphus was a smart thinking man who always followed orders to the letter and was highly thought of by his superiors. Gordon was proud to have him as his older brother, and he was equally proud of being stationed on his ship.
Gordon liked tinkering with his fighter's basic componants, always trying to squeeze every bit of power out of them. He always slightly modified anything he was told to pilot, wanting a little bit of edge on any enemies he would face. He had had no real combat experience, but he had practiced manuevering through asteroid fields and targeting specific ones. It was good training and the danger was there, but nothing ever fired back. He wondered if things would ever change for Kerait. He loved space since he began being stationed there, and he did not mind the sometimes long deployments he had been on. It was something he got used to and found ways to pass the time.
He finished messing with his fighter for one day and wandered around the ship for awhile as it sat above his home planet.
|
"This is Commander Marcus Septim of the Dragonfire, requesting permission to dock," said Septim. "Permission granted, you're clear to dock at platform C28, Kerait City," said the dock manager. The Dragonfire was still a small enough ship that it could dock on platforms, but it also had a side hatch, meaning that it could dock at a proper dock as well. "Take her in, Ace," said Septim to his pilot, Richard "Ace" Xarxes. Xarxes was probably the best, if not one of the best, pilots in the Keraitian Fleet. In the Academy, he had aced every test, hence the name "Ace". "Right away Commander," said Ace as he piloted his ship down through the atmosphere into the planet of Koam. As he flew down, Marcus was thankful for the gravity control on the ship. Without it, he'd be flying around the ship like popcorn in a microwave. The Dragonfire got through the atmosphere and zoomed through the air above Kerait. The ship reached the large island that Kerait City rested on and zoomed down for a landing. It reached platform-C28 and hovered above it for a few seconds before lowering gently to the platform. A few minutes later, the lower hatch opened and an elevator descended from the belly of the Dragonfire. The elevator gently touched the ground a moment later, and Septim stepped off of it. Waiting for him was Rear Admiral Gary Jackson. "Sir!" said Septim as he saluted. "At ease!" said Jackson with a chuckle, "How did the shakedown go?" "No problems," said Septim, "Everthing ran fine." "It better have. Kerait spent enough to buy a thousand fighters on that thing," said Jackson, "Lets discuss the details over some lunch." "Sounds good," said Septim. With that, the two officers walked down the stairs from the platform and towards the shuttle. They got in, and it went to the parking garage (which was under heavy security) and got into the Read Admiral's car. They then left the garage and went off towards a local diner.

[[OOC:
Now for the promised Synopsis on the three stories before this, they need to be long or you won't understand them:
WarTorn Kerait and Olkun'ut had been at war for over fifty years. Nobody even remembered how the war started, nobody really cared. Eventually, due to a plan by Colonel Delran Dark, peace is made with Olkun'ut, though it is a false peace only made to give Kerait time and money to build new weaponry and vehicles...along with the atomic bomb. Before the war starts again, Yerchico attempts to kill High General James Septim. Afterwards, in retaliation, Septim kills Yerchico in a coup. Now Chairman of Kerait, Septim invades and takes over Olkun'ut. At the celebration, warning sirens go off warning everybody of a nuclear strike. Septim leads most of the people at the celebration into an underground vault that will protect all in it against nuclear strike. In it are around three hundred CHCs (cryogenic hibernation chambers). James Septim, Delran Dark, Dak Perkins, Brian Reynolds, all of the Dragons at the celebration, and many more soldiers enter the pods, not to awake for one hundred years.
Return of Kerait The Keraitians emerge from the pods and go out onto the surface (with the help of a large drill) to discover a large desert where Kerait Island had once been a grassland. The Keraitians got into several vehicles that had been stored inside and went towards the Kerait bridge. After going onto the mainland, they discover the small village of Nukesberg where the city of Herval had once stood. Out of the ground came a large drill, followed by several tanks and Keraitian soldiers. Septim then found out that the underground shelters had been used. He sends High General Delran Dark out to gather the survivors from the other shelters. He also learns that the nuclear strike was caused by Iellus Corporation (Now the Iellusian Empire), a major arms manufacturer during the war. They knew that they would not be able to survive once worldwide peace was made, so they used their nuclear bombs (that they had stolen from Kerait) to nuke both Kerait and Olkun'ut into the stone age (or so they thought), after both nations were dead, they used the PAWKUK (Post Atomic War Clean Up Kit) to return the world to its previous state. Septim is given a PAWKUK by Nukesberg, and uses it to clean up Kerait Island (Iellus refused to clean up Kerait Island, and left it as an example to however defied them). Septim sends Dark, Reynolds, Perkins, two Dragon teams, and a Storm Rider team to establish an alliance with whatever remains of Olkun'ut. During that time, he sends Admiral Wolfe to gather intel from the Iellusian Empire. On that mission, Major Dak Perkins of the Red Dragons dies in battle. Delran Dark and Brian Reynolds soon make an alliance with Olkun'ut, and they are given the schematics for power armor (which can't be made yet, nobody knows of a good power supply). The power supply is soon discovered under Kerait Island. Due to the fact that Kerait's clean-up had taken one hundred years to do, there iron underneath Kerait Island had morphed into a highly radioactive substance. One ounce could power Kerait City for a number of years. They used that to make power armor. During that time, Septim had Brian Reynolds lead the Dragons in the takeover of the ISCC (Iellus Space Command Center) in order to control their EMP space station. Before the takeover, he has Dark lead his Storm Riders in the takeover of a relay station. That way the Space Command Center can't call for help. Reynolds send a man named Rell in, who sneaks past all of their security and turns off the cyborgs targeting restrictions. The cyborgs kill the organic guards. After all are dead, he switches off the cyborgs and opens the gate. Reynolds launches EMP strikes against most of Iellus. Then, with the help of power armor, Iellus is utterly destroyed (they have no power...they have only conventional weapons). James Septim then makes Kerait into a Democracy and runs for President, nobody runs against him. After his first term, he doesn't run again, wanting to raise a family (which he does. He marries a woman named Catherine and has two children: Alice and John Septim). A man named Greg Anderson takes his place. Anderson proves to be a terrible leader, and destroys relations with Olkun'ut. He also replaces the High Command of the Kerait Military. After Anderson's term, Septim runs against him and defeats him in a landslide victory.
A Call to Arms (No Details here...it died) Septim returns to office and brings back his old High Command. After a short war with Olkun'ut, he ends up conquering it...again. After his second term, he leaves politics and spends the rest of his life with his family.]]

[[OOC: Demonsul, this strange signal was coming from a planet close to where you're just hanging around. Your sensors picked it up, you go check it out too. :-)]]
"How's your sandwich?" asked Rear Admiral Gary Jackson. "It's pretty good," said Septim. "Yeah, your father and I used to go here when I was a kid. My father worked across the street. See that building?" asked Jackson. Septim looked out the window to see a small building called "HevTech". "Yeah," said Septim. "He was a lab assistant, they sure paid a lot for being a lab assistant," said Jackson with a chuckle, "Anyway, time for business. The Dragonfire has a masking device, probably the most stealthy ship in the entire Kerait Fleet. Here's the mission details." Jackson pulled an envelope from his coat and placed it on the table. Septim took it and began looking them over. "Damn, what do you think it is?" asked Septim. "Not sure, we want you to check it out. We're sending a small task unit. The Dragonfire, the Typhoon, and the Quicksilver are all going. Even though Captain Kyphus of the Typhoon outranks you, you're in sole command of your ship, if he gives you an order you don't like, ignore it, go with what you think is right. Nobody knows the limitations and capabilities of your ship like you do, got that?" asked Jackson. "Yeah," said Septim. "Good, your father would be proud," said Jackson as pulled out his wallet. He pulled out a few bills and tossed them on the table. Septim did the same. A few minutes later, the waitress took the bill and brought back a receipt. Jackson and Septim then got up and Jackson drove Septim back to the spaceport.
***
"We have liftoff," reported Ace as he zoomed off. Commander Septim was standing behind him, watching as the colors outside shifted as they went through the atmosphere, finally, they reached the blackness of space and flew up to meet the Typhoon. "Typhoon, this is Commander Marcus Septim of the KS Dragonfire," said Septim. "Roger that Commander," said Felix's voice through the SCL (Ship-to-Ship Communications Link). A few minutes later, the small frigate Quicksilver approached. "This is Commander Jeremy Rhodes of the KS Quicksilver," said Rhodes. "Roger that, Quicksilver, commencing Operation: Wildfire now," said Kyphus. The three ships pulled off in unison and all three opened seperate wormholes. The ships pulled slightly closer and they morphed into strings as their ships went through. A few seconds later, they were in front of the planet Erus, their target, which was thirty light years from Koam.
|
Gordon felt the ship move beneath his feet ever so slightly, figuring out that the ship had left the KSS-7 above Koan. He knew they must be on a new mission.. Gordon was finally glad that he was going somewhere new. He did not really know anything that was going on, but he was tempted to ask his brother. Anyone of authority that he asked simply responded. "We are just checking out some signal. Nothing important that we know of."
Gordon wandered around the ship whenever he was not tinkering with his fighter. He gave several meetings for his squad, but he hated them as much as they did. "You all know your jobs. You all know how to fly. Teamwork and cooperation are key to survival. Ask one of the engineers to help you with enhancing your fighter if you cannot do it yourself. I do not need one of you suddenly exploding or something in the middle of a fight because you screwed up. Keep ready at all times."
Gordon sighed as everyone would leave the meetings and sat down in his chair. His usually wingman, Alpha two, was Samual Wittin. Sam would commonly wait after the meetings to give Gordon tips for future ones. "Not bad Gordon...but maybe make it not so...serious at the ends. It was good though."
Gordon would sigh again at being corrected by someone under his rank, but he knew that Sam was smart. He scored 98% or above on all of his flight tests while Gordon was just below that. "I guess I should take a communications class or something whenever I have the time..."
|
Demonsul was startled by a message buzzing into his earpiece. "Karzun, we need you on the control deck," it said. Standing, Demonsul went back into the hydraulic lift and was soon on the bridge. "What's the problem?" he asked. "We're picking up a strange signal coming from a nearby planet," said Euan, the communications specialist. "It's not giving any identification code, and it's broadcasting in an unknown code. But it's going out on all channels, everywhere." "Well, let's go have a look. Whoever is broadcasting is evidently trying to send a message, probably a distress if it's on all channels. Whatever it is, it's probably going to attract a lot of attention, and I want to see what happens." After a few seconds of tapping at panels, there was a loud hum from behind the control deck as the hyperdrive spluttered into life. Looking out of the side windows, Demonsul saw the other two corvettes lining up in delta formation. A bluish transparent window opened up in front of the corvettes, and began moving forward, going through them. As they went through, the corvettes disappeared. Demonsul even saw, for a second, the plane of the window advancing through the control deck. And then he was through, in orbit of the planet Erus. The identical window they just exited closed. It had felt like instantaneous travel, but Demonsul knew they had lost an hour or two in the journey. Looking out the front viewscreen, Demonsul saw the planet Erus, hanging silently in front of them, filling the window.
[[Are we going to get a description of Erus? Or just go straight down, or what?]]
|
[[OOC: Erus is a desert planet, almost uninhabitable...hasn't been worth colonizing yet.]]
"Engage the stealth systems," said Septim. "Yes sir," said Ace as he pressed a button on his console. As they zoomed closer to Erus, the signal got clearer. "Get close enough for a drop," said Kyphus over the link. "I agree," said Septim, "Ace, you heard him." "Yes Commander," said Ace as he increased speed. The Dragonfire zoomed in close, and then, something happened. "What the hell?" yelled Lieutenant Norman West, Septim's XO. "What is it?" asked Septim. "We're getting some more readings from the other side of the planet! Other ships!" yelled West. "Fall back!" said Septim, "Regroup with the task unit! Kyphus, Rhodes, we've got company!"
***
No Qalik had a name, none had any purpose but to serve their queen. As they came through the wormhole, their sensor devices began beeping, and everybody knew about it as soon as one did. There was no Captains on Qalik ships, their minds worked as one as it examined the situation, they all acted immediately. The carrier of the small two ship group released its fighters while the large frigate flew towards the Quicksilver and the Typhoon with surprising speed. Their weapons systems charged and delivered a shot, that shot was a supercharged laser that hit the Quicksilver from five miles away. The Quicksilver was split in half by the laser, and it seemed to crumple up once in half. It would take another five minutes for the laser to cool down, but the Qaliks did not care. There would be no surrender...all were their enemy...all woud be eradicated...
|
Gordon was walking towards the hanger bay when suddenly the alarms started going off. He was running past a window when suddenly he saw the ship next to them split in half and crumple up from a laser shot. "HOLY SH*T!"
Gordon sprinted to the hanger bay in time to see most of his men already suiting up to go out. He raced over to his storage trunk and got into his flight suit. He put on his head gear before climbing into the seat of his fighter. "Alpha Squadron launch!"
Gordon and his squadron left the Typhoon and began heading towards the large frigate. "Alpha leader here, everyone report and then spread out. I don't want some damn laser tearing us apart. Engage maximum thrusters and targeting computers. Watch our for ship defenses and fighters. Good luck everyone."
|
As Demonsul examined the desert planet in front of them, a red light flicked on in the console. "Something's happening on the other side of the planet!" said Euan. Demonsul disengaged the autopilot, he preferred flying the corvette when things were actually happening. As the high-speed engines flew the three corvettes around the planet, some other ships came into view. "Those are Kieraitian ships! That's the Dragonfire, there's that Typhoon, and that one is Quicksilver. I don't know about those other ships, maybe we should contact them," someone said. At that moment, the large unnamed ship fired. A huge beam of light cut through the space between the large firgate and the Quicksilver, and everyone was forced to close their eyes at the light intensity. Once the afterimages had worn away, the Quicksilver had become a cloud of floating debris. Evidently the foes were against them, as a cloud of small fighters were flying towards he corvettes, guns blazing. Luckily, the PD lances were blasting them to pieces once they got close enough to engage. However, the fighters weapons were doing a surprising amount of damage to the corvettes' shielding. Everyone went to combat positions, as per protocol. The control deck became a rush of activity, as people ran to their stations. Only Demonsul was motionless. "That thing has more power than even an Ion Array..." he said quietly to himself. Then, regaining his composure, he issued the orders. "I want us out of here!" The hyperdrive spluttered, but no window appeared. "That frigate has a hyperspace inhibitor! We're trapped!" someone shouted. "Looks like we're going to have to fight our way out of this," growled Demonsul.
|
"What the hell? Sir, the Quicksilver, she's gone!" yelled West. "Gone? What the hell could wipe her out that fast?" asked Septim. "Those ships!" yelled West. "Holy crap...Kyphus! Those ships are hostile, I repeat, those ships are hostile!" yelled Septim. "We know!" yelled Kyphus, "I'm sending out the fighters now!" "Alright, men, fire at their large frigate!" yelled Septim. A second later, five shots flew from the right side of the Dragonfire and hit their ship. Normally, that would nearly destroy a large frigate, but a transparent barrier appeared when they hit and blocked the ship-to-ship missiles. "What the hell? Dammit, they have some sort of shield!" yelled Septim, "Keep bombarding it!"
***
The Qaliks are physically superior to humans, at least in feats of agility. Their six arms move with lightning speed, making them far greater pilots than humans. Not only that, but their ships are far more maneuverable. Their shields make them tougher, and their weapons are stronger.
***
"Holy hell!" yelled one of the pilots as he saw an enemy fighter wipe out three Keraitian ships in a period of around three seconds. They wouldn't stand a chance out here for much longer.
***
"Dammit! Fall back!" yelled Kyphus. The remaining Keraitian ships followed their orders as they pulled into the ship. Once inside, the auto ship-to-ship missile turrets fired their rounds, it took two per fighter to destroy them.
***
"Their shield is getting weaker, Commander!" yelled one of the crewmen. "Keep poundin' her!" yelled Septim. "Sir, we have more ships inbound...these ones are registered to a mercenary group! Freelancers!" said West. "Better than nothing, get me a link," said Septim, "Freelancers, this is Commander Marcus Septim of the KS Dragonfire. We are currently pounding their ship, it's close to giving in." With a final barrage of missiles, the shield finally collapsed. "We did it!" yelled West. "Reload and fire! Quick!" yelled Septim. A few seconds later, a barrage of missiles flew from the Dragonfire into the side of the ship. It blew a large hole in the side, and caused a chain reaction that destroyed the frigate. "WormTravel is open! Lets get out of here!" yelled Septim. There were no complaints, the two ships pulled out. A wormhole opened in front of both, and what seemed like a few seconds later, they were viewing Koam. "Ace, you did good, nothing hit us," said Septim. "Thank you, sir," said Ace. "Patch me through to Rear Admiral Jackson..." said Septim, "Somebody has to tell him..."
|
As the frigate blew up, Demonsul breathed a sigh of relief. But the fighters were still pounding at the shielded hulls of the corvettes. "Get us out of here, as fast as you can!" he ordered. The hyperdrive spluttered again, but nothing. "The hyperspace inhibitor drained the capacitors! We can't go anywhere for an hour or two!" an engineer reported. "We won't survive that long!" shouted back Demonsul, but then he saw the wormhole the Kieraitian ships had opened. Diving towards it, the three corvettes entered it just as it closed, blasting a fighter that had also tried to make the jump. After a few seconds of pan-galactic travel, Demonsul emerged, a few hours later, alongside the Kieraitian ships that had just exited. He quickly opened up all channels and shouted "Hold your fire! Freelancer Demonsul here, we do not wish to fight!" the Kieraitian ships weapons had swiveled to face the corvettes, but no shots had had time to fire. breathing another sigh of relief, Demonsul sat back into his chair and waited for a response, or any form of contact.
|
Septim finished reporting what had happened before talking to the Freelancers. "This is Commander Marcus Septim of the KS Dragonfire. Good job back there," said Septim, "Let me patch you through to Rear Admiral Jackson." The Communications Officer pressed a few buttons and typed in a set of numbers, and a few seconds later, Jackson was talking with the Freelancers.
"Septim told me what you guys did. You fought for yourselves, but you also fought for Kerait. I'm sure we need to reward you, your ships will receive free repairs and recharging at KSS-7 (Keraitian Space Station 7), good work. We'll think about hiring you guys in the future. Jackson out."
Septim had his officer kill the link. He then got up and walked to the intercom. "Crewmen of the Dragonfire. You did excellent out there, it was everybody's first time in actual combat, and we did well. The men and women on the Quicksilver did not die because of inexperience, but because of surprise. Nobody knew that their weapons were so powerful...but now we do, and we're more prepared because of it. Good job everybody, Commander Septim out." "Nice speech, Commander," said Ace. "Thank you...take her to Koam," said Septim. "Yes sir," said Ace as the Dragonfire zoomed off towards Koam.
|
Commander Reveritt walked out into Rear Admiral Hugh's office. He saluted the man and sat down.
"May I ask why you have called me here?" Reveritt said. "As you know, he have now had contact with the first outer-worldly being, and are at war with them now. I need all the troops I have under my command to help in this battle, so I'm putting you in control of the Golden Frigate. You'll be given an adequate crew, and high-power weaponry. Good luck, Golden Captain. You'll need it."
A beep came from Hugh's computer, which Hugh read, and turned back to William.
"Looks like you already have your first mission. I need you to join forces with the Red Frigate and help insure they get back home. They have information that might prove useful to us. You'll be departing in twenty minutes."
"Thank you, sir!" William saluted Hugh one last time, and walked out of the office room, towards his ship.

[[OOC: When did we discover they are aliens? It's not as if it was even proven they existed before this event...we could have all kinds of misleading ideas like rebel groups and evil people and stuff before we even get to aliens.]]

[[Oh yeah my post!]]
Demonsul headed after Dragonfire, in hopes of getting a better payment. The Freelancers already had free repairs in a few ports, including one nearby in which they made a quick stop, and didn't need KSS-7's service. Instead, they followed Dragonfire, as the Dragonfire was the only link they had with the Rear Admiral and upcoming payment. "Besides," said Demonsul, "Those forces from Erus intrigue me. I want to go back and get a better look at them, and if I can get a contract with these guys I can make money at the same time."

"Sir, the Freelancers are following us," said West. "Patch me through," said Septim. The Communications Officer, Norman Graves, pressed a few buttons, and a few seconds later, he turned and made the "OK" sign. "This is Commander Marcus Septim, why are you following us?" asked Septim. "We wish to contact the Admiral you redirected us to earlier. We have a...proposition for him," said Demonsul "Admiral Jackson is quite busy at the moment, but you helped back there," said Septim, "Graves...patch him through..." Graves pressed a few more buttons, and a few seconds later, two more green lights switched on. "You're patched through," said Septim. "This is Freelancer Demonsul, are you there?" asked Demonsul. "This is Rear Admiral Gary Jackson...what is it?" asked Jackson. "We wish to talk to you about the recent encounter with enemy forces," said Demonsul. "You have something to report? Go ahead," said Jackson. "I believe you will be making further missions to find out about this threat, and I think we could be of assistance. But nothing you probably do not know to report." "Of course, we will need more substantial pay than that you provided before..." "Fine, let me clear it with Fleet Admiral Henry Johnson. You'll get your answer within the hour," said Jackson. "Why can't these guys be more efficient..." asked Demonsul after the radio was turned off.
***
After Demonsul and Jackson were done, The Dragonfire zoomed down to Kerait City. "This is Commander Marcus Septim of the KS Dragonfire, requesting permission to dock," said Septim. "Permission granted, you are cleared for Landing Pad F24," said the woman. Ace piloted the ship down and landed with great skill, no bump was felt. "Good job, Ace, alright, fix what needs to be fixed," said Septim, "We're waiting for orders from Jackson..."
|
"This is the Typhoon requesting to dock at KSS-4. We are slightly damaged from an enemy ambush and also have lost several fighters. We will need some repairs and also replacement fighters and pilots."
"Permission granted Captain Kyphus, you may dock immediately. We have engineers standing by and we have some stored fighters here for your use."
The Typhoon slowly moved towards Kerait Space Station 4 and docked with it. A number of the crew went out onto the station to relax a little until they were called upon again.
Gordon had to sit in a number of meetings about the last battle. He had to look over recordings of the battle over and over to try and figure out a way to beat those ship defenses. A number of flight officers argued about it for awhile. "How can we beat those ship shields faster? If we are in a battle against multiple of those larger ships with the heavy cannon, we need to take them out fast. We will suggest an idea for missiles that could possibly penetrate those shields. Energy reports are back from scans on them and hopefully it is enough to find a way to beat them. I want our ships protected, the Typhoon especially."
Gordon stumbled from the meeting, not having gotten any sleep since before the battle. He made it to his bed and passed out almost.

[[The "slot for an AI" ...please explain more]]
|
[[OOC: An AI is an artificial intelligence that can be installed on your ship in order to increase efficiency. An AI can also control the auto-turrets, and they work better than the standard targeting systems on the ships. It can also plot courses, establish communications, and help in the running of the ship. They are very...very useful.]]

"This is Fleet Admiral Henry Johnson, do you read me?" asked a voice on Demonsul's Communications Console. Demonsul started, he had not expected a response this soon. "Come in, Johnson," he said into his console. "Greetings
Freelancer. Jackson told me about your proposition, I think we can use
you. The Keraitian Government will give you five thousand Kerans for
each clue you find as to who those guys were...we'll give you one
hundred thousand if you manage to hijack one of their capital ships and
bring it back...in one piece. Take it or leave it..." says Johnson. "Sounds like a deal. I will gladly help your cause," responded Demonsul. "Good, I knew you were a sensible person. Johnson out," said Johnson. After communications had been severed, Euan said to Demonsul, "You accepted that price? Why not anything higher?" Demonsul smiled, and replied, "It's because I wanted to be involved. I would have gone anyway, and if I get any money for it, so much the better."
A short while later, the corvettes were jumping into hyperspace.

"Dragonfire, come in, this is Rear Admiral Jackson" said a familiar voice. "Sir! This is Chief Petty Officer Norman Graves, Commander Septim is currently sleeping, would you like me to wake him?" asked Graves. "Of course!" yelled Jackson. Graves signalled for a seaman to go wake Septim up, and Septim was at the ComConsole a few minutes later. "This is Commander Septim," said Septim. "We have a new mission for you. You'll be working with Kyphus again. But before you go, we'll be installing an AI on the Dragonfire. Your mission details will be transferred to your ship's computer. Any questions?" asked Jackson, "Good. Jackson out." Commander Marcus Septim sat back in his command chair and sighed before pulling up the mission details on his computer.
***DECRYPTED*** TO: Cmdr. Marcus Septim, Cpt. Gordon Kyphus, Cmdr. Richard Webb, Cpt. Joseph Conklin, Cmdr. Wilson Hughes, Cmdr. William Reveritt, Cpt. John Grayson, Cpt. Howard Smith. FROM: Rear Adm. Gary Jackson SUBJECT: Mission Details
DESTINATION: The planet Vranos of the Reculon system. OBJECTIVE: There are reports of strange activity in that area. It could be anything from raiders to our new friends, so check it out. I'm sending two large frigates, one carrier, and four small cruisers. And one more thing...I'll be going with you on this one.
***
Several engineers came in an hour later with box that was the size of the old CPUs Septim had seen at museums. When they were done, a holographic image of a woman in her early forties appeared. "I am Dr. Alice Benson," said the hologram, "I will be your ship's AI." "Pleased to meet you, Dr. Benson, I am Commander Marcus Septim," said Septim, "Feel free to familiarize yourself with the Dragonfire." "I'm already more familiar with it than the people that designed it..." said Benson. "Right," said Septim as he activated the intercom, "Ace, take us to the rendevouz point." "You got it, Commander," said Ace back. The Dragonfire lifted off from the platform and zoomed off towards their meeting point near Hran, one of Koam's two moons. Two ships were already there: Rear Admiral Jackson's Cruiser, the Harbinger, and the Steamboat, a carrier. "Dragonfire, this is Harbinger, welcome to the party," said Jackson with a chuckle. Eventually, the other ships arrived, and the small fleet pulled off and WormTravelled to the Reculon system. What seemed like a few seconds later, they were there, and in front of them was a system of four planets: a gas giant, a small ice planet, a large desert planet, and a smaller toxic planet called Vranos. "We're here, boys, keep alert, and if you havn't already, have your fighters suited up and ready to go out," said Jackson as the nine ships: three large frigates, a carrier, and four small frigates, zoomed towards Vranos.

"Roger that admiral, Typhoon will have the little guys on station and ready to launch."
Felix Kyphus walked over to a control panel and pushed a button. "Attention all personel, this is Captain Kyphus speaking. I am going to switch the ship over to yellow alert and I also want all fighters and bombers ready to launch at a moments notice. That means fighters should be launching within seconds of my sounding red alert. All combat personel should be ready at their stations. I want to be ready before anyone else fires upon us."
Gordon heard the announcement and slowly walked to the hanger bay. The announcement repeated several times to his annoyance, and he suited up. He gathered Alpha Squadron together around their fighters for a pre-mission pep talk. "Alright guys you know what we were up against last time. I do not know if we will be facing any of the same enemies, but I want us to be fighting at 100% if we are. Those fighters of theirs are strong bastards and we need to cooperate to talk them out. You guys know your jobs. Make sure you are with your wingman and give any enemy we face the true meaning of hell."
The men yelled and rushed off to their fighters, ready to kick some ass. Sam walked over to Gordon quickly and knocked on his helmet. "Ready to fly Alpha leader?"
Gordon slapped Sam back. "Always ready Alpha two."
The two men climbed into their fighters and readied themselves for combat.

After spending several days in space next to the KS Herval, things were actually boring. They had met no resistance, and no threats were detected in their scans of the area.
Travis sat in his seat, staring through the window into the expanse of space, intrigued. The universe had no boundaries, according to scientists which he believed, and even the large amounts of space which Kerait discovered is a millimeter compared what is still left in space. A crack and buzz came from his computer, and the voice of Commander Kelon crackled to life.
"Commander," Kelon said. "We've just completed our scans of the area, we have detected something... strange." "Stranger than those... beings attacking us?" Reveritt said. "Actually, the exact same." The mic crackled off, and an explosion knocked Reveritt off his feet.
"Damn," William muttered. He grabbed the mic and yelled, "RED ALERT!"

[[OOC: Promotion time! Don't read this until you read the post below or you'll be like. "WTF"
Might as well put in Kerait Navy Ranks. This isn't the same as US ranks. Not as many. XD
Spacer Recruit Spacer Petty Officer Chief Petty Officer Master Chief Petty Officer Warrant Officer Ensign Lieutenant Junior Grade Lieutenant Commander Captain Commodore Rear Admiral Vice Admiral Admiral Fleet Admiral
Due to the nature of my promotion, I am now a Commodore, meaning I control a large frigate and two small frigates.
Travis sorta went to the wrong place...so he's still a Commander. >.>
Deallus - Deallus's brother was on Jackson's side during the affair due to Jackson's rank, but Deallus convinced his brother not to fire his warheads. For that, he skipped a rank and went straight to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Sorry for making up your story, you can change it if you want. I wanted to do this myself to somebody didn't just randomly fire and destroy one of their ships and ruin my storyline. You of all people know how annoying that is. Anyway, your next mission is similar to mine. A quick strike against a Qalik mining operation or a very small outpost.
Demonsul is...still a freelancer, though depending on what he writes, he could get some money for some downed Qalik ships. :D]]
As the Dragonfire went towards Vranos, she began picking up some strange readings. "Several units have been detected. The signatures similar to those of the creatures found at Erus," said Alice. "Alright, stay on yellow," said Septim as the Dragonfire circled around the planet. As it went around, the light that reflected off of the toxic planet's surface made for a great view of the ship. It was massive, larger than a heavy cruiser by a great margin. It was gray, with red stripes down it. It looked different than the ones they encountered before, but they weren't about to take any chances. "Jackson! We've found them!" said Septim. "Good, begin assault, Xarxes formation!" yelled Jackson as the fleet moved in. Fighters poured out of the hangars as the ships moved in and began firing, but the ships did not fire back. "Commander Septim, they are trying to make contact," said Alice. "What?" asked Septim, "Try to get me through, Jackson, stop firing! They're not hostile!" "Stop firing? Dammit! Don't give me orders! Keep firing!" yelled Jackson, "Launch a couple warheads, that should teach 'em!" "No!" yelled Septim as he saw two warheads fire from the Harbinger, "Shoot them down!" "What!?" asked one of the weapon operators. "Do it!" yelled Septim. Two missiles flew out and blew up the warheads prematurely, saving the massive ship, and the human race. A massive, devestating, and beautiful explosion occured ten miles from the Dragonfire, sending out a spectacular shockwave that slightly rocked the Dragonfire. "Stop firing! They want to talk!" roared Septim. "Bastard! Those two warheads were around two hundred thousand apiece! When we get back to Koam, you'll be lucky to see a ship again!" yelled Jackson, "You can talk, I hope you get blown to hell!" "Alice, get me through!" yelled Septim. "Yes, Commander," said Alice as she patched Septim through to the alien ships. "Tasa innt Crotians! Sheza carana ka dume!" yelled a voice over the Console. "This is Commander Marcus Septim! Do you read me?" yelled Septim. "Conana dere da'bata!" said the voice with a bit of relief behind it. "Commander, they aren't speaking any language on our logs," said Alice, "They are not Keraitian, and they don't speak our language." "Send our language files over the link," said Septim. "Commander, if they are hostile, that would give them a huge advantage," said Alice. "Just do it," said Septim. "Yes, Commander," said Alice. A few minutes later, a voice came back. "Commander...Marcus...Septim?" asked the voice. "Yes, do you understand me?" asked Septim slowly. "Yes...I....do," said the voice, "We...come...in...peace..."
***
Rear Admiral Jackson listened to the conversation with a pale face. They were friendly...I almost blew a friendly alien vessel halfway to hell...
***
"Who are you?" asked Septim. "We...are the...Crotians," said the voice. "Can we meet...in person?" asked Septim. "Yes...in person," said the voice, "Come in a...fighter. We will...guide you in." "I'll go," said West. "No, I will," said Septim as he got up and walked towards the small launch hangar that the Dragonfire had on board. He got into a fighter and launched off from the Dragonfire a few seconds later. As he flew close to the alien ship, four ships different than the ships back at Erus flew towards Septim and guided his fighter into one of the hangars. Septim noticed that their turrets did not track him. As he got out of his fighter, several large humanoid figures approached Septim. They had red fur over a dark crimson skin, their eyes were a vibrant shade of green, and each was a few feet taller than Septim. They each carried a staff made of a strange wood, and as they opened their mouths to talk, Septim could see that they were omnivores from their teeth. "Greetings Commander Septim," said one of the Crotians in a practiced line, "Follow me." Two Crotians stood behind Septim, two walked in front. A few minutes later they arrived at an elevator, and when the elevator stopped, they stepped out into a large observation deck. A Crotian that looked stronger than the rest stepped out and looked at Septim. "Greetings Commander," said the Crotian in a line that did not sound practiced. "As a representative of the human race, and the Kerait Council, I greet you," said Septim in a line that he had been thinking of since he was greeted at his fighter, "And you sure learned our language fast..." "Thank you, Commander, us Crotians are very quick learners...the fact that our computers are able to link with our mind helps. We have been watching your species for quite some time...it's about time you ventured into space" said the Crotian with an expression that resembled a smile, "I am what you would call an Admiral, though we call it a Han-Barem. My name is Gannus Vekarian." "We were attacked earlier at the planet Erus by another group of ships, do you know who they were?" asked Septim. "What did their ships look like?" asked Admiral Vekarian. "Dark green, they look like a flat cone in the front a strange drive system in the back," said Septim. "From your description, it sounds like you were attacked by the Qalik," said Admiral Vekarian, "In exchange for your language, I will send all files that we have on their technology, species, and worlds to your computer. Fair is fair." "Thank you, Admiral Vekarian," said Septim. "I will also send files on our species, culture, and language so that next time we meet, we will be able to speak in our own languages," said Admiral Vekarian. "Words cannot express our thanks," said Septim. "No 'thank you' is required. We too are at war with the Qalik," said Vekarian, "That is all I have to say. We will contact you soon enough." "Goodbye, Han-Barem Gannus Vekarian," said Septim as he walked away. "Farewell, Commander Marcus Septim," said Vekarian. Septim turned, and was escorted back to his fighter. He then left the strange ship and was soon back on the Dragonfire where several of Septim's men began clapping. "Welcome back, Commander," said Alice, "Shall I open up a link to the Harbinger?" "Of course," said Septim. "Well...I'll be damned...you...you did it. Well...I guess I was wrong," said Jackson over the link. "I think you were, Sir, and with all due respect...pull your head out," said Septim. "Now listen he-" "No! I will not "listen here"! You nearly started a war with a friendly spacefaring Empire, I will not respect your position after that!" said Septim before killing the link. "Commander, I don't think that was a good idea," said West. "Oh well..." said Septim, "Ace, get us back to Koam." "Sure thing, Commander," said Ace, "You did good back there..." "Thank you, Ace," said Septim. "Don't mention it," said Ace as the Dragonfire went into a wormhole.
***
"Congratulations, Commodore," said Septim's new commanding officer, Rear Admiral Gregory Hoffman. Hoffman had replaced Jackson as the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Task Group of the 3rd Fleet after Jackson's actions at First Contact with the Crotians. "Congratulations yourself, Rear Admiral," said Septim. "Thanks, now, down to business. From examining the Qalik files, we have discovered that one of their mining operations is close to Erus. I want the Dragonfire to get close enough without being detected and launch a warhead at their operation. They are extracting explosive material, so it should make a pretty big boom and a good distraction for your escape," said Hoffman. "I'm on it," said Septim. "Good, I've heard good things about you, get to work," said Hoffman. Septim left the Admiral's office and got on a shuttle, half an hour later he was boarding his new ship, the KS Defiance. The Defiance was too large for a landing pad, and had to use a proper dock. Septim chuckled at the ironic name as he boarded her. At the controls were three men, Ace and two co-pilots. The ship was too large for one man to pilot, no matter how many claims Ace said. Septim's XO, Commander Jacob Ballum, was saluting. "Sir!" said Ballum. Septim returned the salute and approached Ace. "Glad to have you here, Ace," said Septim. "Glad to be here, Comman-Commodore," said Ace. "You've served with me on two ships, you can call me Marcus," said Septim with a grin. "Right...Marcus," said Ace with a grin. "We're taking her to the Yerchico System," said Septim. "That's bad luck in itself," said Ace as he readied for launch. "I should know, my ancestor overthrew him," said Septim as the Defiance flew off. It was joined at a rendevouz by the Dragonfire and the new Quicksilver. Must be running out of names if they use a dead ship's name that quickly, Septim thought to himself. "Going into WormTravel now!" said Ace as the ship flew into a dark void...

[[Do I have a ship other than a fighter now?]]

[[NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I wrote an awesome long story, but it took me so long that by the time I was done VU had logged me out and I lost it all...
Basically, the summary of the story: Discovered huge asteroid base in nebula Captured a Qalik strike frigate (not the big laser one) Combined frigate with existing corvette tech to make a ship with all the Qalik weapons and all the corvette weapons too Jumped to Erus Sent original plans of the frigate, a file naming the Qalik and the videos of the takeover that show Qaliks getting shot a lot to all Kierait ships within a hundred lightyears of Erus
It was a really good read, but now it's all gone...*sniff*
I HATE VU's AUTO LOG OFF!]]

[[*continues to be depressed
Ah well, I'll treat it as a you-don't-know-exactly-what-happened event. You'll have to ask Demonsul what happened, or refer to the tapes;]]
Everyone receives the message "This is Freelancer Demonsul. We did it." also received are plans for a Qalik strike frigate, a heavily corrupted translation file named Plans and tapes from some helmet cameras.
The file 'Plans': A section of the file reads "****a***ti*****alik i*********** for Qalik g********ssio***go*****i*g***Que***********". The rest is all corrupted.
The Tapes: First there is a clip of someone sticking a screwdriver into the camera. Then there is static for several hours. Next, there is a view from a frigate's command deck window showing a massive asteroid (a few miles across) in a nebula. Frigate sized ships are flying out of a hole in the side. Then there is static, then a clip of nebula clouds flying past a high speed. Then static for a while. Then you see several men in a spacesuit-armor hybrid standing in a small metal room. Then the camera shakes and goes offline, then it reactivates in a dark green arched corridor, the armored men are shooting at six-armed aliens who are running and dying. After they all die, someone throws a grenade into a vent. Camera cuts out for a while, but later the people are jumping through a hole in the roof of an elevator and dashing into a control room shooting guns and rockets at armed aliens and ceiling turrets. Aliens appear surprised and are mowed down. Then someone stabs a console with a small black plastic stick. Camera cuts out. Five second clip of the Freelancer corvettes docking with the frigate. Cuts out. Half hour clip of installing three mass drivers onto frigate. Cuts out. Short clip of ship hyperspacing into Erus orbit, and Demonsul sending the message; "This is Freelancer Demonsul. We did it."

"This is Rear Admiral Hoffman, Jackson is no longer here and I have no knowledge of yo-" Suddenly, another voice came onto the console, cutting the other off. "This is Fleet Admiral Johnson. Bring her to KSS-3 and your payment will be waiting," said Johnson.

Seven planets were now in front of the Defiance, the Dragonfire, and the Quicksilver. A capured asteroid was orbitting the sixth. "Man your stations," said Septim. "Automatic turrets online," said Alice. "We're ready, Commodore," said Commander West, the man who had been the XO on the Dragonfire, and was now the commanding officer. "Ready, Commodore," said Commander Sarah Madison of the Quicksilver. "Lets go," said Commodore Marcus Septim as Ace and the two other pilots flew the ship towards the sixth planet. "Arm the warheads," said Septim. "Arming," said Alice, "Warheads are armed." Septim waited until they were around six miles away from the asteroid. "Fire!" said Septim. Two warheads flew from the Defiance. Their explosive yield tripling that that had destroyed Kerait City many years before, yet they were not the strongest warheads. Upon contact, the asteroid exploded in a beautiful cloud, incinerating the workers and several docked ships. "Alright, lets get out of here," said Septim. Three wormholes opened, and the large frigate and two small frigates flew into them. After a few seconds, or what seemed like it, they were back at Koam. What they saw surprised them. One massive ship accompanied by two smaller but still massive ships were near Koam. Septim recognized one of the smaller ones as the Crotian ship from before. "This is Commodore Marcus Septim, what's going on?" asked Septim. "Hang on," said Hoffman. Septim was soon patched through to the conversation, and given a recording of what had happened before he got there. "This is Crotian Dreadnought Jo-Lurnos. I come in peace," said the voice that Septim recognized as Admiral Vekarian. "We were told that you would contact us," said a voice Septim recognized as Chairman Maxwell Benson. "I am sure you were. I will now translate for my Emperor, as my Keraitian is better than his at the moment..." said the voice. "Alright," said Benson. "I am Emperor Halanus of the Crotian Empire, and I have come to request an alliance against the Qalik," said Vekarian. "We are quite able to handle the Qalik," said the Chairman, "I just received word that our attack on their mining colony succeeded." The Crotian made a noise similar to a laugh, and spoke again. "One attack on an undefended mining colony, and you think you won the war? Those ships you fought at "Erus" were but small frigates, and from what I have gathered, they blasted one of them away in one shot! They have machines that can drain the atmosphere from your world, they can manipulate gravity to cause your moon to crash into your planet, they have ships that are double the size of our flagship, and you think you can defeat them after attacking a mining colony? I am sorry, but you are outmatched," said Vekarian. The Chairman was silent for several seconds. "An alliance it is," said the Chairman. "Thank you Chairman," said Vekarian, "We will transfer all data on our worlds and ships to your computers, hopefully you can build a decent navy from them." With that, the ships left the system, and Commodore Septim sat back in his seat. "Well, that was interesting," he muttered.
|
Lieutenant(Junior Grade) Gordon Deallus sat on board his corvette 271-989 and exited hyperspace just outside of hostile space. The other ship with him was the Zion, a large frigate under the control of Captain Wayne Lemarr. "Lieutenant Deallus, I want you to keep an eye out for enemy ships in the area. There should be very few since this is just a small mining station. Just keep us informed of anything dangerous while we prepare the warheads."
Gordon stood up from his seat in the corvette and looked around at his small crew. "Activate sensor arrays, warm up weapon systems, and be ready to intercept anything that may come near."
The crew quickly completed their orders and waited. The Zion soon fired a salvo of warheads towards the undefended mining station. When the missiles came in contact with the station, it exploded in a satisfying display of blasted metal and other compounds. "This is the Zion, we are pulling out and back to Koam immediately. Wormholes are opening so let's go."
Gordon fastened his seat belt and his corvette quickly entered into the wormhole. Within a short time they were back near Koam.
