The Bloodied Sword |
All right, see "New RP thingy" for a very general idea of the game.
Basically, you(if you decide to play, which is unlikely, I suppose) run around with your character killing stuff. Sound easy? It is. There will be six races you can play as, I bet you've already guessed them. They have different abilites, strengths and weaknesses. Speed - You can run around quicker, Intelligence - You've more mana to cast magic, Strength - Effects how much damage they can do, Health - How much health you've got.
You can get weapons and armours and stuff. Armours and shields give you more health, weapons makes you deal more damage, either from afar or up close. Staffs increase your intelligence, as well as giving you a boost(albeit small) to damage. There's nothing that can make you run around quicker.
There's a board like this(sorry, can't do pics whoever asked, it'd take too long): 0 is ground with nothing, 1 is a wall, A, B, C, D, E, F, G(people, and monsters) There's other stuff as well, but not much. A, B, C are heroes in this, D are monsters.

Hope it's not too complicated so far...
Speed - The amount of speed you have is how far you can move in one turn(heroes and monsters take turns, all the heroes take their turn at once, then the monsters. You've got about a day for each turn, don't expect this to be quick or anything...) Basically, one move horizontally or vertically takes one speed, etc. Moving diagonally takes two squares; one horizontally, one vertically. E.g.

Don't worry, you don't have to show the arrows, they're just to show you. In the second one, you could get to the same place with 6 speed, but there are walls in the way.
(This stuff only matters to your character, I'll just tell the damage monsters do and their health) Strength - Depends on weapon. Barehand - Damage = Strength/2 Health - Amount of health(damage you can take) is health(errr... the skill of your character dude, call this vitality or whatever you want if you prefer) multiplied by ten., plus armour/shields(set amount, health is full after each level thingy). Intelligence - Your mana is your Intelligence multiplied by 2, plus staffs.
That's all the stat thingies. Weapons, scrolls(you need to collect scrolls to be able to cast magic) and armours and stuff are collected on monsters(not all). Don't worry, there won't be that many. Next post - Races, magic, and weapons.
Edit: There is something seriously wrong, the board keeps getting messed up.

Pardon my laziness.(There's also a door at the end of each leve to go onto the next, otherwise there'd be way too much stuff in one post. Firstly an important message: Don't read all this bull*beep* below, unless you want to, you'll pick up the game as you go along.
Weapons(I'll add to this during the game. You don't really need to worry about each of these, just pick 2 weapons, that's all you can be skilled in, and you can't use any others, but you can swap or even give away weapons for free to other with/to other players) Note, bows and crossbows deal much more damage than other ranged weapons, and the weapons you pick up are random) -
Staffs(2 handed), gives you some mana each turn,(forget what I said earlier) and gives you a slight boost to damage(but small). (Stones on top top of staffs are what give magical bonuses, not the wood) Bows and arrows(2 handed),(there's only one type of arrow and one type of bolt for crossbows) 6 range(range is the same as speed, for the weapon to go, not you), fairly low damage. Crossbows(1 handed), 4 range, higher damage than bow and arrow(but still not as much as most mélée weapons. Hammers(2 handed)(includes hammers to throw, 2 range), Can do a lot of damage, but need certain a strength, and can slow you down. Axes(1 handed)(includes axes to throw, 2 range), Can do a lot of damage, but need a certain strength. Swords(1 handed)(includes daggers to throw, 3 range), Does a fair amount of damage. Spears(2 handed)(includes javelins to throw, 3 range. Spears are mélée but can attack at 2 range), Does quite low damage. Other Other items... Shields(armour), gives a fair amount of defence, can only be used with one handed weapons. Armour(armour), gives various amounts of defence, and can slow you down.
Scrolls(Magic), needed to cast spells, automatically have level one spells. Scroll drops aren't all too common, you might need to wait a while to become a powerful mage.
Magic(*sigh*...) There are two types, combat and utility magic.(sound familiar?) You cannot regain mana unless you have an item that allows you do so, or cast happiness, until the end of the level. Combat = Enemies, Utility = Friends. You can cast them the other way around, if you feel so inclined, just like you can attack heroes and whatnot(but this is inadvisable, you might get killed as a result. Oh yes, did I mention, you can get killed in this game? You can restart, but you lose all your weapons, and can only join in on the next level thingy)
Level one(oh yeah, spells cost whatever level it is, 1 level = 1 mana, etc.)
(C) Revealing eye - Shows if a monster has an item or not, this is quite useful if you don't want to bother killing a monster and just get to the exit) (U) Happiness - gives three mana(two, as you take away one to cast it)
Level two
(C) Freeze - Prevents target from moving next turn. (C) Crush - Damages monster for three health. (U) Cure poison - Cures posion(only a very small amount of monsters can do this)
Level three
(C) Locust - Prevent target from doing anything next turn. (C) Anger - Target attacks the nearest thing to it, friend or foe. (U) Magic protection - Target can't be cast(magic...) on for rest of level. (U) Heal - Target is healed by 5y. Y being the amount of mana you use, as well as cost of spell.
Level four
(C) Rain of fire - Deals one damage to all enemies. (C) Dispel magic - Prevent target from casting anything for the rest of the level. (U) Improve item - improvements an item to something slightly better. Same thing, e.g. axe => axe, scroll => scroll(It won't get much better though, but it does last forever)
Level five
(C) Earthquake - Knocks target back three squares, causing three damage. (C) Fog - No enemy can move the turn after cast. (U) Bless - Target gets two turns(or an extra one if already taken, before monsters)
Level six
(C) Teleport - Teleports target to anywhere(you want) on the board(can be useful for allies) (U) Invisibilty - Makes target impossible to attack for three turns. (U) Magic weapons - Weapon gets double damage for one turn.
Level seven
(C) Amnesia - Target attacks at random for rest of level(closest to it, if in movement range/range). (U) Army of the Dead - Target is risen from the dead, anywhere on the board, for three turns, you control it.(Generally, an enemy monster...)
Level eight
(C) Fireball - Target loses half its health(if health is less than twenty, it dies). (U) Magic wall - Creates a wall whereever you want, 5 pieces(you can block youself in for all I care)
Level nine
(C) Plague - Poisons target, causing five damage each turn unless cured(cure only cures one target at a time). This spreads if the target attacks anyone, and if that anyone attacks anyone else etc., so it could back-fire. (U) Control time - You get three extra turns(only can target yourself)
Level ten
(C) Shocking blow - Kill target, and anyone surrounding target is dealt twenty damage.
Magic can be quite useful :)
Now, the races. You pick one race, and that's your character, and add on your points(you CANNOT take away points and it to others), and you cannot swap their abilities. The plus thingy is how much you can add to skills or whatever you want to call them.
Human(one item is upgraded every level, sort of like Improve item spell) (+ 6) Strength - 5 Intelligence - 4 Speed - 5 Health - 5
Dwarf(can change one item for its equivalent in another item every level) (+4) Strength - 7 Intelligence - 3 Speed - 3 Health - 8
Halfling(is invisible against the wall, i.e. monsters don't for it unless it's out in the open, or they are within 2 rmovement.) (+3) Strength - 3 Intelligence - 6 Speed - 7 Health - 6
Orc(has no ability as such) (+5) Strength - 7 Intelligence - 3 Speed - 6 Health - 6
Troll(Is immune to harmful magic) (+3) Strength - 9 Intelligence - 3 Speed - 2(max. 5) Health - 10
Elf(gets an extra scroll every level, from level 1 - 10, combat scrolls first) (+3) Strength - 4 Intelligence - 7 Speed - 7 Health - 4
Each being can ONLY carry 4 items max. (not including scrolls, they're light). Any questions?

Alright, thanks dudes. I'll leave this until tomorrow, then we'll start. You health and mana will be at the bottom of the board, and damage, and if you're poisoned or anything. You can only use one weapon in a level, but you can carry the others around if you want to swap them or something. I'm afraid I'll also have to annoy you people to say what two weapon types you're skilled in. Anyone can still sign-up if they so wish(can sign-up between levels as well, depending on how long this goes on for, I doubt everyone will keep playing), if I get four players, I won't play a hero, but there can be as many heroes as players who wish to play. I'll put up the board(I'll try not get it messed up. Sorry, but I have to use the numbers, otherwise everyone would have to copy and paste, copy and paste...) and weapons tomorrow hopefully.

I presume by staves you mean staffs? Anyway, here's my stats... and the board.

(Armour isn't counted as weapons by the way, just in case you didn't
know... I'm getting rid of the ranged weapons apart from bows and
crossbows, sorry, they'd just be awkward(but they have low damage, bows
and crossbows that is) Bows and arrows.
You can move before you attack, but only 1/3 movement after you attack.
10 = 3, 9 = 3, 8 = 2, 7 = 2, 6 = 2, 5 = 1 etc.(sorry for these
improvements, but otherwise it will be imbalanced, though I was considering
no movement after attacks, which is why I didn't mention it) 0 = Ordinary ground. 1 = Wall, (these are blank when you copy it, so that might help you, you can't walk over walls or anything), E = Exit(to next level. Everyone has to get to it, but if a hero goes to it, they leave the level, to go on to the next, regardless of whether others live or die) A = Binh B = Bragi C = Killer D = Wraith
G = Goblin(this is a nice easy level to start off, so only one type of enemy, who are weak, but are reasonably intelligent) Damage = 1(don't bother with the strength for moneters, they don't use weapons, though they carry them), Speed = 3, Health = 5(different colour will be used for weaker health monster, at least to start off with), Range = 1
If it's too much bother with the colour(apart from walls, you don't have to change them), I'll get rid of them. Monsters will take their turn first, then heroes. Here's the starting board:

Yes! It didn't mess up. Now, I'll take monsters turn and mine...(heroes can play in any order, but only get one turn after monsters at a time) Any creatures or heroes cannot move over any other heroes/creatures. Swapped a 1 with what I meant to be a 0, sorry.

Staffs, bows, and spears are made of wood. Hammers, crossbows, axes and swords are made of metal. (I'll do armours later) Sorry, won't finish this tonight, will do tomorrow. If anyone can tell me which wood's stronger here, I'd appreciate it, I've them in a random order.

Ok, now damage... Y = Player's strength, Z = Weapon level / = Divided by, - = minus = = equals :P, + = plus, * = Muliplied by Staff = (Y/2) + Z(I'll explain about the magic thingy as well. Basically, you'll have a gem-stone at the top of your staff(random, no matter the staff itself) and it regenerates your mana. I haven't decided on the rate yet though, sorry) Bows = Y + Z - 3 Spears = Y + Z Hammers = (Y + Z)*2, Level 5+, slows you down by 1 speed, Level 7+ by 2 speed, level 9+ by three speed. Axes = (Y*Z)/3, Strength needed = Level of Axe Crossbows = (Y/4) + (Z*2) Swords = (Y - 3)(Z - 3) I hope these are ok...

axes seem pretty weak to start whit but i guess theyll be good later on xD
my damage whit axe: 8*1=8 8/3=2.67

Yeah, the axes are pretty crap at the start. So are swords(in fact they're rather crap, I'm changing them, sorry).
Staff = (Y/2) + Z Bows = Y + Z - 3 Spears = Y + Z + 1 Hammers = (Y + Z + 3)*2, Level 5+, slows you down by 1 speed, Level 7+ by 2 speed, level 9+ by three speed. Axes = (Y*Z)/2, Strength needed = Level of Axe Crossbows = (Y + (Z*3))/2 Swords = Y/2*Z
How are those? Anyway, it's someone else's(anyone else's) turn, I took mine and the monsters.
Now, for the gemstones. These are usually on staffs, but not always. Before that though, just in case you want to know, these are the formulae I'll be using to determine a weapon or item(this doesn't matter to you, just in case you think I'm doing it unfairly). I'll be using the dice in VU chat. There's a one in three chance of it dropping from a monster. It could be any of the weapons/armours/scolls/other in equal proportion. There are 7 chance of weapons(each of the types), 1 chance of scrolls, 2 chance of armours, one chance of other. The chance of each level(weapons, armours, and scrolls, not sure about other yet) is done by the first ten triangular numbers reversed... level 10-1, 9-2, 8-3, 7-6, 6-10, 5-15, 4-21, 3-28, 2-36, 1-45. Staffs then have the same chances again for a gemstone, level 1 being no gemstone. These may change in higher levels.

still feels like crossbows are overpowered

do we have to kill all monsters before leaving this lvl or? and can wepons be like enchanted whit gems?....and how are you going to calc combat damage? xD

Crossbows are a bit overpower to start with, but they'll get weaker. Combat damage IS the damage thingies above, the ones for each weapon type. They're taken away from the health. No, weapons canoot be enchanted with gems, only staffs can have gems, and they're to regenrate mana after you cast a spell. However, I will make some other stuff under "other" which will make weapons better.

No, sorry. Not unless you have a spear, bow and arrow or crossbow. Also, I forgot to mention, you can't shoot around corners with a bow and arrow, unless you have the same number of squares to shoot around it. I won't really be able to explain this properly, so I'll use pictures. Basically, you have to shoot in a straight line at target without obstacles in the way.

Figure 2. Though A can't actually move towards B, it can shoot B(straight line). Its range however, is 6, one up, one across, etc.
Figure 3. A doesn't have a magic arrow to shoot through walls, nor can he curve it to hit B. He can, if able, move up two and shoot him, or four, and shoot him, or three and shoot him.
I hope you understand. I'll try and explain it better if you're at a complete loss.

*sigh* It's strength divided by two. I already said that above. I forgot to mention, bows and crossbows cannot be used in mélée(they can be used for one square diagonally, but not horizontally or vertically). Binh, I'd appreciate it if you took your turns quicker.

It always round down. Also, you don't have a bow. I'll give plenty of drops this level though, so you will have them in later levels.
