Village update: Alvarez: Populatio*beep*R>Army size-0 Treasury-0 dinarii Warehouse-empty *One blacksmith
Golden Waters: Populatio*beep*R>Army size-0 Treasury-0 dinarii Warehouse-30%swords, 30% bows, 30% sheilds, and 10% books *King Rich also has 3 concubines, gold equal to the amount of 15 Byzatine shiekels (enough to buy yourself a really decked out suit of armour and sword, or buy 10 slaves, or buy 40 scimitars), and 10 barrels of fine Kumuss
|
Results of last question: Emir Adrastos- The city of Alvarez now has one blacksmith. It will produce 5 low quality (same quality you would have bought) swords, pikes, or shields per day. The quality will improve over time if you buy books, and quantity will increase if you buy tools (example 50% tools means you will produce 7 goods)
King Rich- You now have enough weapons to arm 30% of your army with low quality swords, 30% with low quality bows, and 30% with low quality shields (regardless of size of your army, but one time only. Meaning if you expand your army after building it, you will need to purchase more weapons). You also have a teeny tiny library now available to your citizens. This will increase their average wage over time, and since Saracens (even though your byzatine, you still get Saracen attributes) are lovers of knowledge, the happiness of your population rises as does their devotion to you which was weakened by your law to smile.

I'm not feeling very creative right now so I'll just post my answer. 3. Set a tariff on imported/exported goods (15% on Imported/10% on Exported)
This worked for the young U.S.A to help the industries within the country flourish, and still made cash. I don't see why it wouldn't work for me as well.
|
(cant be bothered wit story atm, i'll do one on the next question)
1. Raise a tax
b 5%

About Tariffs: They work really well when imposed by countries, but when imposed by villages they just don't work.
Emir Adrastos: Since goods coming into or leaving your village are now taxed, fewer people want to trade with your village. It's just not worth the effort. Your people of course pick up the slack and start producing many of the goods that they use to buy, but the village begins making less money. Sensing possible stagnation, your advisors rush to you with pleas of appealing the tax. Results: Alvarez: Populatio n 2,500 Average wages for people (half of them produce wages remember) - 18 Dinarii (decrease due to lack of trade) Army size-0 Treasury- 974 dinarii (437 for yesterday, 437 for today) Warehouse-empty (you didn't tell your blacksmith what to produce, so they're just sitting around for now) *One blacksmith; village is more self-sustaning which will be good if seiged
King Rich: Pleased with the low taxes, the people rejoice that they have such an understanding leader, and in thanks build him a statue in the middle of the city. Golden Waters: Populatio n 2000 Average wages for people (half of them produce wages remember) - 20 Dinarii Army size-0 Treasury- 1000 dinarii (1000 for today) Warehouse-30%swords, 30% bows, 30% sheilds, and 10% books *King Rich also has 3 concubines, gold equal to the amount of 15 Byzatine shiekels (enough to buy yourself a really decked out suit of armour and sword, or buy 10 slaves, or buy 40 scimitars), and 10 barrels of fine Kumuss

Sitting back in your very uncomfortable throne, you make a note to have a more comfortable yet less prestigious one built while watching the revenue pour into the treasury. Smiling at the sound of coins clinking as your workers count the money, you let your mind wander to thoughts of glory and even more wealth. Warming to the idea, you grab a pen and some paper, shake your head at the old habits you have, then grab a scribe instead and sit down to plan out your path to glory. A couple of hours, many dreams, and several scribes later, your master plan is done. Most of it is of course is dependant on what others might do, but it all starts with an army. Again your advisors are called and the brainstorming begins... 1. Raise an army (You have to tell how many men you want, and how well trained they are. A well trained soldier will cost 5 dinarii a day, while a poorly trained one will cost 3, while a peasant will just be 1) 2. Decide that the best offense is defense, and build defenses around your town (say how it is laid out. Paliside-700^ (will go all the way around your village) caltrops- 2^ ditch- 100^ (will cover one side of village) wall defenders (troops that can only be used on walls. But they are better on walls then plain soldiers. How many and how much they cost are the same as 1.) p.s. ^ is the symbol for dinarii

[Arn't my peasents making babies?]
Adrastos never thought that he had to tell his Blacksmiths what to produce because it was only common sense that they should start making war gear, but he supposed they were mere peasents. So Adrastros went down to the Blacksmithy and told the Blacksmith to start training other apprentices and to start making shimitars and light shields. Blacksmith takes 4 apprentices, and starts making Shimitars and light shields (it is the desert after all)
After that Adrastos saw that the import/export taxes were not working, so he got his advisors in and after much talking they finally settled on a 8% tax (so that will be 1250 x (18 for now)= 22.5k>>>8% Tax, 1.8k gold/day). I banish the import/export tax and put in an 8% tax.
Soon after that Adrastos realized that his village was open to attack, so he ordered his people to build a Paliside and a Ditch that goes through two sides of the village (974-200-74= 0 Dinarii left) A Paliside, A Ditch that goes half way around the village, and 37 caltrops (whatever they are).
Adrastos also realized that walls are of no use if there are no soldiers to guard them. So Adrastos called out to the village. 100 Men volunteered to become soldiers, and all of them were trained. Also if I can train troops (Army/Offense troops) I want to have 100 Trained soldiers.

(lol dude, u aint allowed to change the import/export tax, you failed, its too late to change ur answer! Plus its scimitars...)
King Rich sat back in his throne, thinking about what his next course of action would be. He called forward his advisors and after a bit of thought, it came to the rooms attention that the best thing to do would be to raise an army and tame the nearby hostile villages. He began the training process of 40 highly trained soldiers (200^ a day) and 100 poorly trained soldiers (300^ a day).
1. Raise an army of 40 highly trained soldiers, and 100 pooly trained soldiers. (500^ a day)

[Why am I not allowed to change the import/export tax? I am the King arn't I? Can't I do whatever I want as King? I can behead half of my subjects if I wanted to.]
|
[[Since his advisors did beg him to change it, and taxes are something that can be changed (unlike the results of a battle) and the formula for developing the amount of money received is somewhat complex, Adrastos can change the taxes. He can not however raise an army as well as do defenses. Since he did defences first he gets defences. About the population, I was waiting so I could increase it in round figures. Also, forgive me for taking a while to write. I have been doing much traveling, for example today I drove from Texas to Oklahoma on my motorcycle.]]

Emir Adrastos: Breathing sighs of relief and praisng Allah that he gave them such a considerate leader, the advisors ran off to change the tarriff. Meanwhile, the people begin constructing defenses for the city. Results: Alvarez: Populatio n 2,600 Average wages for people (half of them produce wages remember) - 19 Dinarii Army size-0 Treasury- 5928 dinarii (1976 for 10, 1976 for 11. 1976 for 12) Warehouse-9 scimitars, 6 small shields Defenses- A Paliside, A Ditch that goes half way around the village, and 37 caltrops (are they just placed randomly?) (p.s. a caltrop is a device made in such a way that no matter how you throw it a spike is always pointing up. They are scattered throughout an area to prevent a calvary charge.)
King Rich: Lots of men join the military and impressed by the uniform, and now having a statue to meet out, couples (and thus population) boom Golden Waters: Populatio n 2060 (plus 200 increase, minus 140 for soldiers) Average wages for people (half of them produce wages remember) - 21 Dinarii Army size-40 highly trained 100 poorly trained Treasury- 2163 dinarii (581.5 ^ for 11, 581.5 ^ for 12, plus the orginal 1000) Warehouse-30%swords, 30% bows, 30% sheilds, and 10% books *King Rich also has 3 concubines, gold equal to the amount of 15 Byzatine shiekels (enough to buy yourself a really decked out suit of armour and sword, or buy 10 slaves, or buy 40 scimitars), and 10 barrels of fine Kumuss (How do you want your soldiers armed?)
|
1. Build military further: a. Raise an army (You have to tell how many men you want, and how well trained they are. A well trained soldier will cost 5 dinarii a day, while a poorly trained one will cost 3, while a peasant will just be 1) b. How many and how much they cost are the same as 1.) 2. Begin raiding small villages, shephers, etc.

(i'll arm my army with the shields, bows, an swords i bought earlier, but how come adrastos is making so much more money than me? I dont get it how you worked that out? Plus how come he has to pay less wages to his people...?)
|
(What percentage of people are armed with shields, what percent with bows, and so on. Because you only have enough to arm 30% of them with shields, 30% of them with bows, and so on. About the dough, the 19 wages is how much the people make, not how much you have to pay them. The fomula is Population halved, multiplied by how much the average person makes (this gives you how much money your people are making so your people make more taxable dough than Adrastos') then that is multiplied by your tax amount. So for Adrastos it is 2,600 halved (1300) multiplied by 19 (24700) multiplied by 8% (1976). So he is making more money than you because he has more population (notice I gave you a population boom though) and because his taxes are high.)
|
[An 8% tax is high?]
Um ok.........now that I have walls to defend vs. raiders I decide to 1. Build military further: a. Raise an army (You have to tell how many men you want, and how well trained they are. A well trained soldier will cost 5 dinarii a day, while a poorly trained one will cost 3, while a peasant will just be 1) 100 Trained soldiers, and 75 poorly trained soldiers (725^ upkeep)
If I can train some defense soldiers then instead of training the 75 poorly trained soldiers train 100 for the walls (poorly trained), but only if I can train defense soldiers too, otherwise just ignore it.
