[OOC: I changed my age, because I wasn't aware we could be younger then 20 when I amde my character] Jonny had been through the first half of basic training now. He was learning quickly, although it really was not a whole lot of fun. He was hearing rumors, but that was all they were, for he rarely left the base. He often hung around the barracks, and worked out a lot. He became some what of a favorite amongst the rest of the men, for he was witty and quick with a joke. The captains were irritated with him, but they never managed to dampen his light sense of humor that always happened to make fun of those in charge. Name: Jonny
Had he been a legionnaire for a year and a half? It seemed like just yesterday that he had been in the ceremony. Well, it was good news, he only had eighteen and a half more years left. The pay was, however, decent. Upon getting out of the army, if Gaius spent nothing and received no promotions, he would have around four thousand gold coins. He could live off of that after retiring, and legionnaires who fulfilled their term usually received land as well. However, a good legionnaire reaching forty without a promotion to Centurion was rare. Three hundred gold every six months...now that would be something. What if he made it to legate? One thousand gold a day! His CHILDREN could probably live their lives off of that! The power that came with the position made it worth it even without the pay! Oh, who was he kidding? He'd probably never make it to legate. Why get greedy? Name: Gaius
The corner's of Tiberius's mouth twitched and went still as Lord Byron passed him by. For weeks he had been attempting to muster the courage to speak to Lord Byron but found himself unable to do so. Everytime a man of nobility appeared in front of him he seemed to limp and was unable to speak to anyone in anything more than monosyllables. As he watched Byron's robe trail away he mentally cursed himself at his inability to engage in a nactivity as simple as talking with a noble man of senior rank. As Tiberius slept that night he marked another day off his calendar wondering as to where they'd be next posted. 2 years were up and in the citadels it was time enough to get transferred. He fervently hoped that he'd be deployed to a zone where he would see action, the monotonous city life seemed to grow less and less attractive to him by the day.

Name: Jarnas 1/2 Journeyman fighting. {Can I learn journeyman tactics as a soldier too?} Jarnas fit into military life like a hand into a glove. By week two, he was a shining star in his Centurions; "Jarnas! What is your purpose in this army!" "To do whatever you tell me to Sir!" "That... That is the best answer I have ever heard! Watch this man soldiers! He's going to be a Legate some day!" Jarnas' skill at fighting was also unsurpassed in his class (albeit unimpressive when compared with one of the regular soldiers), he was wicked fast, with vicious strikes and surprising flexibility.
[[OOC: *spies a total reference to Forrest Gump in Erunion's post* Well...the unit of one hundred men is called a century, not a centurion. A centurion is the commanding officer of a century. =D As for tactics, of course you do. Everybody does. Journeyman tactics is understanding the basics of how the legion works. If a soldier didn't understand that, the army would fall apart on the battlefield. =D]]

Name: Horus the Humble Horus and Nevo snuck out soon after hatching the plan. They first headed to a tavern to take the edge of nervousness off. Little did Horus know that Nevo could 'handle' more than a few drinks. As one drink become 11, Horus quickly realized that he was completely inebriated and that the sun was rising. Horus grabbed Nevo, whom seemed perfectly content, and made him return to the barracks. Though extreme tired and suffering alcohol withdraw the next day, neither Horus nor Nevo were caught by higher officers. Their peers knew, but did not dare say a word knowing Nevo's history. Since Horus didnt accomplish his goal of finding her, and considering how easy it was, leaving the barracks and searching became an easier decision to make. Over the next six months Horus left the barracks up to once a week. Nevo eventually as caught for not manning his post. His punishment was not severe, he merely received a warning... be caught and no longer be a soldier. Horus had started to feel confident in himself. Not only was he drawing the attention of women (as all soldiers do), but he was getting away with commiting offences such as leaving the barracks, and lying about it.
[[OOC: If he deserted his post to drink and got caught, I'm pretty sure he would be sentenced to death in the arena. >>]]
[[OOC: Actually...Nevo was sentenced to death in the arena. That was a SERIOUS crime, probably worse than murder. They sure as HELL wouldn't have given him a warning. And a war is starting now. I know that several of you are in the Duchies that have revolted. You may choose to either desert and flee to the Imperial provinces, where you can join the Imperial legions, or stay with the revolutionary armies. It's up to you.]] All of the garrison were allowed to watch Nevo's death for free, which was good for Gaius as he needed a break. Two years seemed like a long time, but he was only 1/10 of the way through his military career. Gaius didn't know that Nevo had been an arena fighter in the past, but he didn't care. Nevo was going to die either way. A legate known as Numerius Zerinus was announcing his charges. Name: Gaius
And so, Jonny finished up his military service. He could not decide wether to join the Legion, or to go out and try to forge his own way. in the end, the legion won, for the promise a war was coming, as everyone had heard the rumors of what was to happen. He was excited, and ready to prove his worth, as every man always is. He took the oath from the Duke of Jaskol, and rose with ninety nine of his comrades to become the fifth century in the Legion of Jaskol. They were to be under the command of a Centurion named Robert Worth, a fair man, who seemed to immediately take to Jonny's quick sense of humor, much to the dismay of some of the other officers who had seen jonny through basic training. It was going to be a good time, being a Legionaire. Name: Jonny
{One has enough time to read books and work, no matter what job you have, right?
Lanoc grinned as he brushed the dust off the ancient book in front of him. It would probably be best not to be caught with such a book, he would be presumed to have stolen it, even with the large sum he earned. He had bought it from the library where he used to work, and it was slightly torn and tattered, but it would teach him further in the art of reading. He slid it into his bag and continued his work, delicately scribing letters.
[[OOC: Your heirs and wives can, of course, read them. However, when selling it again it's only worth 1/4 of its original price. Your choice.]]
Name: Jarnas Home: Scholar's Basement. Journeyman Fighting Journeyman Tactics Journeyman Reading 1/2 ----------------------- Jarnas completed his year's service with honours. By the end of it, he had been offered a place in the legion, which he surprisingly turned down. "Jarnas! You have rare talent for this, join the legion, we'll need good men like you in the coming times, things are becoming unsettled hereabouts." "I may return Centurion, but I have an itch to do something else. I will return when I return." With that Jarnas marched out of the barracks, into the town and right up to the home of the local scholar. "I wish to assist you. May I?" "Um... I have no ne-" "So you say, so you say, but I think that you would benefit from my help. How about it." "Fine. Tidying around here was getting tedious." And so Jarnas the soldier became an assistant scholar, but he made sure to keep his military skills sharp, playing chess with whomever would play with him and eating red meat regularly. {Yes, I did shamelessly rip off Forrest Gump, and I do know what a Centurion/Century is. It was a typo, I meant to say "Centurions eyes".}
Name: Horus the Humble Nevo's passing deeply afftected Horus. He nearly had to suffer the same fate, but didn't. He no longer left the barracks at night. Six more months and he would have leave. Though the memory faded, he figured he would never find her. Horus decided to double his efforts in the military. He did extra running, fully armored. When he heard word of the conflict, the civil war, Horus realized his chances to accomplish his ultimate goal of achieving power. He decided to join the ranks of the revolutionary forces of Certin. The Duke of the Duchy of Certin had decided that because of their geographical position, complete independence was the cause worth fighting for. Certin would secede from the empire. This surely would upset the king... [[OOC: what I would like to do is get into the leadership positions of Certin. I imagine I have to become a knight... not sure how to go about this, could you provide me a few examples?]]

Cut down your pay to 10. Initial 1 year recruit training does not pay anything.
Tiberius had never found himself more happy than when the rumours for war started to circulate. Their commander were making them drill triple the time normally done and due to irregular engagements being expected too, master experts at irregular forms of fighting were being hired to teach them. As 3 and a half years of conitnuous standard legionaire training had rendered them near perfect troops in conventional warfare tactics, the most energetic and best of them were also being taught to operate in small groups in unconventional ops deep behind enemy lines. Tiberius, Niath and Vercingetorix got selected for that training. Name: Tiberius Titles/Ranks: Legionnaire Of The Serillian Army Skills
Name: Jonny It had been six months since the swearing in. The training... had not been "bad". Although Jonny became good friends with many of his comrades in his Century, they were all itchy for a battle. They were the youngest Century, averaging only 22 years of age. The men wanted to fight.. fight for honor, fight for glory. Then came the rumors. Slowly at first, but then more and more. "Some of the Dukes are coming together." Then "They are going to defy the coronation of the new king, when it comes down to it." It was going to be an interesting few months.
The Emperor, the glorious Emperor Marcus IV, was dead, and his Empire had cracked in half. Resdyn, Guana, Peninsulara, Wednor, Somermon, Erisma, and Tibenos had all revolted against Imperial authority, and had formed their new Empire. Arlen Wednor was the leader of the revolt. He was a great tactician in his own right and a former General of Emperor Marcus IV. Gaius knew it would be one hell of a war. The revolt under Duke Wednor had nearly 54,000 troops, and the newly crowned Emperor Aulus III had around 72,000. Gaius, legionnaire of the third legion, would, as his oath required, do everything in his power to make victory possible. A week after war was declared, two legions arrived from Zenis. The next day, two legions arrived from Yorton. Including the third legion, the Imperial Army numbered 30,000. Aulus's army would be one the offensive armies. A majority of the other legions would be protecting the frontier provinces, and the Tiberian cohorts would be protecting Seris. Gaius had a long few years of fighting ahead of him. Name: Gaius

Lanoc sighed at the commotion outside the academy. People were waving their swords about like sausages, threatening passers-by. Lanoc cursed whatever soul had initiated the rebellion. Name: Jarnas Home: Peninsular Barracks Journeyman Fighting Journeyman Tactics Journeyman Reading ----------------------- Jarnas finished his year-long apprenticeship with the scholar, just in time for war to break out. "Thank you for your instruction friend, You taught me well the arts of reading!""It has been an honour working with you Jarnas, I only pray that you will not be slain in the coming war.""Come with me, together we will defeat these Imperial tyrants!""No friend, I am a scholar, not a warrior. It is not my place to fight, but to teach.""As you will, I have been summoned to fulfill my duties, I will return."With that, Jarnas left the scholars home, and marched to the barracks. The city was alive with voices, people rushing about. There was a veritable hum of excitement. It seemed that on every street corner there was another recruiter calling out his mantra;"Join with the army of liberation! Together we will overthrow these imperial tyrants! Together we will have liberty in the West! Join with the army of liberation! Together we will..." On and on they cried. Jarnas entered the barracks, and saw a flood of people converging in front of two separate tables. A Centurion, splendid in his full regalia, was giving an address. "Welcome friends and countrymen! New recruits, welcome to our army! Go to the left-most table to sign with us and be given your duties! Reservists! Go to the right table to be given your duties!" Jarnas gravitated to the rapidly forming line on the right. He waited in line for four minutes before coming to the table. "Welcome back Soldier! Do you wish to join the frontlines or remain here for further training?" "I believe I am in need of training." "Good good. Go down the hall and take the second door on your left." Jarnas walked down the hall having signed the next few years of his life away to war and conflict...
Name: Horus the Humble The Duke of Certin passed a letter on that leave would be revoked and all standing military were to be activated immediately. He saught a voluntary force that would escort him. Horus thought, my goodness, the Duke! I could meet the Duke and prove to him that I was worthy of high responsibility, that I deserved nobility because of my work ethic. Horus immediately volunteered and found out the details of this special guard. The Duke of Certin, Fresis, wanted to travel to all of the duchys in the northern peninsula: Jaskol, Zennith, and Yorton, and convince their leadership to perform a new state. the rumor was that if they disagreed we would take them by force. And that force would start with the assasination of that region's leadership. It was a dangerous mission, and Horus knew it. He was approved for this special guard because of his recent increased activity in the fitness areas. Regarding the woman that never leaves his thoughts completely, he figured that if he became a famous leader, a popular figure, she would come to him!
[[OOC: Going to have to revoke your last post. Being on a Duke's personal guard means you must have years of experience and proven loyalties, not a best friend that was convicted to death for abandoning his post. ;-) You haven't even seen combat, all of his guards are either experts or masters of combat.]]
The Duchy of Porus was going to be amongst the first duchies to be involved in the war as it bordered Resdyn and Guana. To Tiberius his aim was as clear as it could be, loyalty to the Emperor and what he stood for to the death. That much sense and love for the emperor his father had succeeded in putting in him. He understood that during times like these it was vital to maintain order and that could only be done by only one way, in this situation maintaining loyalty to the Emperor. Where there was no order they would bring order out of chaos by force of the sword. Name: Tiberius Titles/Ranks: Legionnaire Of The Serillian Army Skills
Name: Jonny As a member of the Legions of Jaskol, Jonny looked forward to the fighting. When asked which Century would take the lead, and fight the hardest, Jonny and the rest of the members of the 5th had all screamed their faces off, earning grudging respect. "The Youngsters", as they were being called, had spirit. As Jonny and his friends marched towards Seris, where the armies would meet, he couldn't help buy be proud. They were going to battle, to glory. The rabble rousers would eventually be stopped, of that he hah no doubt. They had superior numbers on their side.
[[OOC: During wartime, if you are anything lower than a legate, you gain both tactical and combat experience. If you are a legate and higher, all you gain is tactical experience. Upgrading to a veteran skill level costs you four days (two years), upgrading to an expert skill level costs you eight days (four years), upgrading to a master skill level takes you sixteen days (eight years). All of these are passive, meaning you gain them no matter what, just make sure to keep track of them.]] In the past six months, Gaius had seen six different major battles. He had survived them all, but a lot of his Decum didn't. He felt sorry, for them and their families. Then again, maybe it was better for their souls to be released from this harsh war early. The war was hell. He had landed killing strikes on thirty-five men. Back, when he was younger, he had doubted that he could ever kill a man. How wrong he was. Name: Gaius
Blindfolded Tiberius drew his sword and landed two strokes each at the blades of his fellow decum members standing in a circle about him. As he uncovered the blindfold, the Centurion simply grunted, "Fine," before passing on to the next Decum. Being on the frontline Tiberius had seen 13 battles and numerous other small engagaments. He had killed 42 and dealt extremely injurious blows to many more than that. 5 members of his Decum had been rendered incapable of combat and they presently had 3 legionaires and 2 auxiliaries in their place. With the legionaires they mixed well soon but were cols shouldered towards the auxiliaries who themselves seemed to be uncomfortable in their presence and stuck together. Tiberius had received a wound on his left arm, a moderately bad wound on his right thigh and a slight cut on his face throughout the campaign apart from the countless attacks that his armour had withstood. War was not quite glorious as he had though that it would be. The large battles had been to his liking but the smaller engagements were fast, furious and brutal. Their training in irregular engagments had come in handy and they had managed to overcome the enemy everytime but at a cost, at the cost of their comrades lives.

{You get experience for tactics as well.}
Lanoc read the book while in the academy. It wasn't exactly riveting, but he had almost finished. He turned at the swish of a cape behind him, and threw the book into his bag. It was one of the older scholars, Quintus. "Stealing books?" he asked with a critical eye, grabbing the bag and riffling through its contents. "Reading for Veterans? That isn't very good. Did you steal it from here?"
[[OOC: Upon reaching 2/4 in tactical experience, you are promoted to Dector (that rank has to have some use, right?)]] Gaius was getting a lot of cuts and scars, even with his armor, and he had nearly had his right eye cut out. If Serillian medicine hadn't been as advanced, Gaius probably would've died. However, he kept fighting and eventually earned a promotion to Dector. There was no pay-raise with the promotion, but he was leading other men, and it was a step towards becoming a Centurion. Name: Gaius
(Septim, I didn't update yesterday so I'm doing a double update today. Hope that's alright.) Name: Jarnas Home: Peninsular Barracks Veteran Fighting; Expert 1/8 Journeyman Tactics; Veteran 1/4 Journeyman Reading ----------------------- Jarnas finished his legionnaire training, and was placed in the VII Centurion, IV Legion of the Peoples Liberation Army. On the eve of his first battle, Jarnas listened to Terius Tremannis, his Legate's, address to the troops; "Some months ago, we of the west declared ourselves independent of Imperial Tyranny. This display of valour and freedom, however, was frowned upon by the New Emperor, high and mighty on his un-earned throne. They have sent numberless legions to crush us, but we shall have none of it! Enemy soldiers have crossed the border from Berder and entered our sovereign soil! Tonight, sharpen your swords and sleep well. On the morrow, we will show these Imperial Lap-dogs how free men fight! FOR THE WEST!"The thunderous cries of the legion filled the camp. Buoyed up in spirit, Jarnas cleaned his armour, sharpened his sword then desperately tried to get some sleep. --------------------------------- "Century! Form ranks!" Centurion Heskal chivvied the nervous men of the VII century into order. The seemingly vast Imperial legion was approaching. "Hold yourselves together men. Remember, your drills were bloodless battle, now this is just a bloody drill! Now advance at a walk." The II, IV and VII centuries were advancing along the eaves of a forest towards the enemies right flank. Inside the forest, the XII and XIII centuries, both battalions of archers, were silently moving into position, covered by the more obvious legionnaires. "Double time!" The Century doubled it's speed, now jogging towards the enemy. As they approached, a squadron of cavalry and three centuries of foot peeled off from the Imperial lines towards this flanking maneuver. The Three PLA Centuries stopped. "Form shield wall! Enemy advancing!" The veterans were smooth, and the terrified recruits clumsy, but all were quick. Shields snapped into place, leaving a solid wall of wood and steel. Behind that, longswords were at the ready. Jarnas muttered to his friend, "We should have spears. Why don't we have spears?" The imperial forces advanced quickly, then broke into a full charge, cavalry first. "Steady! Steady!" When the enemy was 45 meters from the line, a trumpet was blown. The archers that had been hidden in the trees unleashed a horrifying volley, tearing the charging cavalry to shreds. A second volley followed quickly after the first, devastating the squadron of horse. The shocked riders and terrified horses reared away from the shield wall, barreling through their own legionnaires. The enemy legionnaires continued their own charge, but were no longer in formation. More arrows tore into the unprepared lines but still the centuries advanced. "Shields up! Hold formation, advance at quick walk!" The Rebel centuries maintained formation, advancing quickly towards the Imperial forces. "Charge!" With a deafening cry, the Rebel troops counter-charged the Imperial forces. A bloody melee ensued, as the archers were called off. After eight minutes of vicious fighting, the Imperial forces broke and ran. The Rebels reformed, and with archers supporting advanced on the main body of Imperial troops, successfully flanking the main engagement. Soon the battle was over, with horrifically mauled Imperial Legion retreating, while the 7th, in somewhat better shape, reformed and celebrated. "Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!" By the time it was over, of the VII Century IV legion 73 of the 105 men remained, a number reflective of the legion. Roughly a fifth of the VII legion was lost in the conflict. And that was just the first of many.
