The late autumn saw many Mullendorian forces ambushed by the northern rebels, lead by Lord Ragnarr Ragnarrson. As soon as the winter snows fell, Rurikhof’s people rose against the enemy occupying garrison. The lord in charge was hung and most of the troops – killed, though some made their way out of the city to flee. The same happened in Stormkeep, the main port of the Northern lands, though Ragnarr’s forces besieged the city first, shortly after Rurikhof joined him. The Mullendorian garrison was defeated, and those who did not die in battle were allowed to desert as soon as they surrendered their weapons. The lord in charge there, Viktorian, surrendered the city and his sword and banner to Ragnarr personally and was allowed to leave the city with some other surrendered troops. Ragnarr had restored the whole north-eastern part of his father’s kingdom in less than a year. He appointed Borys as Lord of Stormkeep, who reluctantly accepted, and Yarl Eric became Earl of Rurikhof.

Borys had initiated a massive construction of longships that would continue throughout the whole winter, so they could use them for raids and transport. The blockade at sea was, as Ragnarr understood from a fast galley from Cidel, broken, thanks to Septim’s efforts at sea. Rurikhof was quickly fortified and construction began on its walls, since it was a key point into the north-eastern part of the lands, or what Ragnarr now had liberated. One could not reach this part of the kingdom without passing through Rurikhof, with the sea and a few rivers as the only exception.

Ragnarr had sent a letter and a few parchments to his friend, the Lord of Chernomor, Knyaz Zhelezorukov, with a one of the few left longships in Stormkeep. The message greeted Knyaz Zhelezorukov and gave a detailed report of Ragnarr’s campaign. It also had an offer for cooperation, trading and a military alliance. He also asked for some help if it was possible at the time for the Knyaz to send an army across the sea to aid him. Ragnarr was not sure if the longship would make it, but he hoped for the best, and made a small prayer to the Old Gods. He personally carved a few runes on the longship that should protect the voyage, the vessel and the crew.

By the middle of the winter, Ragnarr had prepared a force of around twelve thousand skilled warriors and another thirty thousand able to fight men. The rest were needed badly to restore the damaged lands of their homeland. He was stationed at Rurikhof with five thousand warriors, managing the governing of his newly restored kingdom. It was hard work, as there was a sudden need of money, and all the silver mines were positioned near Silverwind, still under Mullendorian control. Though a lot of the work done in restoration was done with no payment, as the people willingly themselves volunteered for it, it was near to impossible to do anything. All that kept his kingdom together was the strong will for resorting Ragnarr the Wolf’s old kingdom.

Mean while, he had the ability to understand what had been going on in the mean time with the other kingdoms that used to be in the now broken down Sellenian Empire. Word of the “northern rebels”, as he and his forces were referred as, motivated the forces of Cidel in a great counter offense for the besieged by Mullendor Nerisella, which was the old capital of the Empire, now under control of the single heir of dead king Adoras, Ayllera. The siege was lifted, but in the battle the city was nearly entirely burnt down and Ayllera, the only connection to the glorious past, had died – a burning roof had collapsed over her. There was now no lawful heir of Adoras, and no hope to reunite the kingdoms again without the spilling of a lot of blood.
