FM 2010 Experiment |
FOOTBALL MANAGER 2010 EXPERIMENT
I'm going to run an experiment, much akin to the one Nimon used to do on another forum we frequent. But this time for the VU community. For those unaware of what it entails, I'll explain:
I create and edit a FM 2010 database, but this time incorporate user-submitted player stats, to allow VU'ers to create a fictional player to play in a non-fictional world. There will be limits to what stats can be picked (i.e so we don't have every moron coming in and making godly players), but that'll be explained later. Certain stats are hidden, but will be equal for each participant (i.e loyalty, controversity, sportsmanship). All players will start off without a club, from there they will be picked up by random clubs, and we will watch their progress. I'll be reporting back intermittently (perhaps on a yearly basis) to report their status (i,e, where they are, how they have played, any trophies won, etc) with screenshots and reports.

There's an error under the technical section. It says you have 4 placements for 4 points. That is wrong. You can have 5 placements for 4 points each.
|
Sleezy can I join with a cracked version?
|
Brashen, think you misunderstood the set up. It doesn't require you to own the game or interact, other than to give me some "stats". I then add them to my database and run the game. I then come back and report you to on how the fictional players have progressed, with screenshots and info, etc.

Those stats don't actually fit to goalkeepers btw Struddles. Goalkeepers themselves have a different set of technical stats (it would be too hard for me to fairly give out "equal" stats), but I deliberately left them out of my stats posts, and made the mistake of leaving goalkeepers on the "positions" screenshot. So if you wouldn't mind, could you do another form for an out-field player? Can't really make any of us become goalkeepers im afraid.

FM2010 EXPERIMENT
YEAR 1
JULY 2009-JAN 2010
So the first half of the season is compiled, including the summer and January transfer windows. Suprisingly, a fair few players (myself included) have yet to sign for a club. Whether we simply haven't yet been scouted, or whether clubs don't see the potential in us, I'm not sure. So to that end, I haven't much to write about for these people. Fingers crossed that we'll get picked up by some clubs, but you never know. Footballs a tough game. Other players however are enjoying success.
I've provided updated screenshots for every player. Though I sincerely doubt those without clubs will see any improvements (given that they aren't training with any club). Those at bigger clubs are likely to see bigger improvements too.
Edward Ezzington
Edward Ezzington is one of the number yet to be signed by any clubs. Ezzington was called up for the national u-19s squad, but didn't play, and has yet to be called up since.

Omnipotent Onslawt took perhaps the most surprising route of the signed youths. While it might be common for Spanish or Italian prospects to go overseas to learn their trades, the English, however, tend to refrain from doing so. So when recently-relegated Serie B outfit Reggina came forward, and Onslawt jumped at the chance, despite not knowing the language or customs, it came as a surprise to many. Reggina would be a big opportunity for the lad, particularily considering they were hotly tipped to earn promotion back to the 1st Division in the following season. Onslawt only played twice for the first team this season, scoring 1 goal. In the youth setup he was more successful, however, and scored a respectful 9 goals in 26 appearances.

William Wilberforce
William Wilberforce was quickest out the blocks in attracting the scouts attention. Within days of starting, the 4th division outfit Dagenham & Redbridge F.C were reported admirers of his talent, although it was the BSP (5th division, England) side Rushden and Diamond's who won his signature. While some might have turned their nose up at such a club, Wilberforce hoped that R&D could provide the building blocks to a long and fruitful career in the game. After 10 competitive appearances in the first team by September, in which he scored an impressive 5 goals, R&D offered him a 2 year extension on the contract which he accepted. Wilberforces performances thereafter however quickly slipped, and despite still remaining their choice striker up front, had only scored 8 in 25 league games by January. Wilberforce played no part in Rushden's FA Cup trophy defeat to their fierce rivals Kettering, having not even made it to the substitutes bench. Wilberforce has not scored in 226 minutes now.

Danny Stirling
Danny Stirling. The man of the moment. The David Beckham of the FM2010 Experiment world. The media, the clubs, the agents, they all had their eyes fixated on him. Multiple teams reportedly interested in him (Ejido, Pontevedra, Alcorcón), and who does he go sign for? Rushden and Diamonds. Yes, the very same side as William Wilberforce. Now, I'm not one for conspiracy theories. But surely something has to be going on between the two of them, for Stirling to insist they be so physically close to one another? What ever the case, Stirling was quick out of the starting blocks and a series of good performances earned him 3rd place in both of Augusts BSP's player of the month and young player of the month awards. Stirling soon went on to provide an assist in Rushden's first round tie of the FA Trophy (not to be mistaken with the FA Cup) against their bitter rivals Kettering, and despite losing 2-1, he was awarded man of the match. With 23 first team appearances under his belt, Stirling managed to tally up 5 assists, 2 of which coming from cup-games. He ends January injured with a sprained ankle, and may be out for up to a month.

DLDs Pancreas
A plethora of Italian sides were interested in DLDs Pancreas, no doubt with his dual Swedish/Italian nationality playing a huge part. The young defender eventually opted to join Serie B outfit Livorno. Pancreas' decision to join the same league as Onslawt could result in a tantalizing showdown, however though, for now it seems unlikely, as Pancreas was quickly shuffled into the Italians under-20s side. Pancreas has played 26 youth games so far, has yet to score out of 11 attempts on goal, and has won 125 tackles and 138 headers.

Alexander Orlov
It is said by many that footballing agents interfere too much in a footballers life, but for the peculier case of Alexander Orlov, it could be said that it was in fact the opposite. Or perhaps that Orlov just didn't have a agent in the first place. What ever the case, Orlov astounded many when he turned down the chance (at the negotiation table, no less) to join footballing legends Barcelona's reserve team, instead opting to join domestic lightweights Stevenage. Orlov would be playing in the same league as Wilberforce, but surely, surely this was a step in the wrong direction? Or perhaps he didn't expect much play time at the Camp Nou. Eitherway, a golden opportunity missed. Orlov has gone on to play 24 times so far for Stevenage, and scored an impressive 15 goals.

Robert James
Robert James didn't attract too much in the way of attention from clubs, though one particular side was eager to get him onto their books. 1st division Scottish side Kilmarnock quickly lapped up the teen, which is no mean feat on his part. Though the Scottish divisions might the lack quality of its neighbours down south, they're perfect for young talent like James to flourish in. All of James' appearances so far, bar one substitutes, have been in the u-19s side where he's played 17 times, scored twice and made a whopping 10 assists.

Sam Wuude
Sam Wuude's first months were tentative and frustrating for him. Though there was undoubted talent and promise in the boy, no clubs seemed to be clamouring for him. While the other youths had clubs offering contracts left right and center, Wuude was left on the side line. Perhaps there were questions over his suitability, because English Premier League side Sunderland took the cautious line of offering him trials. Unfortunately, Wuude failed to impress, and Sunderland's advances went no further. It wouldn't all be tales of misfortune for Wuude, though, as Serie B side Padova took a chance on the plucky defender, signing him up. On his first appearance for his new club, Wuude became the youngest player to have ever played in Serie B at the age of 16 years, 326 days. By January 2010, Wuude had made only 8 appearances for the first team (4 of which as a substitute), but had made 19 in the Padova under-20's side, scoring 4 and getting man of the match on 3 occassions. Based on the potential they saw, in the January transfer window Tottenham (1st divison, England) made a £550,000 bid + clauses for the defensive prospect. The bid was accepted and Wuude signed for Spurs on a 2 year deal. Wuude has yet to play for Spurs.

FM2010 EXPERIMENT
YEAR 1
JAN 2010-JUN 2010
Second half of the season is complete. Some leagues such as the Norwegian one are on going, however for the majority of players with clubs (barring one who can't play), their seasons are over and it's holidays for them.
A couple got clubs after January. Still have a few such as myself who are without a club. Anyhow, here's the next installment.

Omnipotent Onslawt
Omnipotent Onslawt gained a further four first team appearances over the course of the season, and scored 2 goals, but was largely confined to the Regginna U-21 side. In 45 appearances the striker found a return of 15 goals, more than 4 times that of the nearest team-mate. Onslawt is currently being mentored by 31 year old attacking midfielder Brienza, and off the pitch has still failed to learn any Italian. Considered a hot prospect by the management, Onslawt has voiced that he wishes to go out on loan to gain more first team experience. Reggina finished the season Serie B champions, and are promoted to Italy's top divison, Serie A.

Dingedown Verll
I suppose location has a huge part to play in whether a player gets a club quickly or not, because it took until late March 2010 for the scouts to reach Verll in his Norwegian Igloo, and immediately 4 contract offers came in from Nardo FK, Eidsvold Turnforening, Vindbjart and Åsane, the latter of which he signed for. Johansson, Verll's new manager, was reported to have been "not in the best of spirits" when unveiling his new centre-back at a press conference. Perhaps owing to his late-signing, Verll hasn't managed to play mainy games this season, only managing to rack up 7 appearances for the first team and 2 for the reserves, though his defensive duties were impressive: winning 46 of 49 attempted headers and 28 of 34 attempted tackles, with an average distance travelled per game of 5.8km. The Norwegian league is still on-going, with Åsane lying in third.

William Wilberforce
I think Wilberforce himself would agree when pundits assessed his performances as of late as poor for R&D, but 2 goals and a man of the match award against Ebbsfleet brought him right back into contention. Rushden were able to move up to 6th place in the league, 1 spot away from the playoffs. Wilberforce earned more praise from the plaudits in May when he came 2nd in the Young player of the month award. Despite this, with with the club in a poor financial state and Wilberforce reportedly one of the highest earners at the club, he may soon be forced out of the door. Wilberforce ended the season as the leagues third top goalscorer, scoring 20 goals from 44 league appearances. Rushden finished the season in 6th, 3 points off from the play-off spots.

Danny Stirling
Stirling's performances from January onwards took some what of a nose dive. Despite still featuring regularily for R&D, he only managed to make one more assist during the remaining months of the season, bringing his overall total up to 6 from 32 matches played, with 1 goal from 21 attempts. The young wingers successful pass percentage is just shy of 50%. Stirling is reported to be the only member of Rushden's first team that is unhappy, though he doesn't seem to have any intention of leaving the club. Rushden finished the season in 6th, 3 points off from the play-off spots.

DLDs Pancreas
Pancreas failed to make a single appearance for the first team all season, but featured regularily for the U-21s. The stalwart defender completed nearly 800 of over 1000 attempted passes, won 209 tackles and 226 headers, with 1 goal, 5 assists and an outstanding 7 man of the match awards accreditted to him. Pancreas is currently being tutored by defender Leonardo Migliónico. Livorno finished the season 8th in Serie A (my mistake, I said Serie B in my previous post), which is a huge achievement considering many pundits predicted Livorno would become embroiled in a relegation battle.

Alexander Orlov
Orlov had a mixed-bag of a season. Orlov on a personal level played pretty well, but he feels it was over shadowed by an under performance by his team. Stevenage were expected to make the playoffs out of the BSP comfortably, but instead finished the season in mid-table obscurity. Orlov has been one of a few who have been critical of the teams overall performance. Scoring 16 goals from 32 first team appearances, Orlov scored 4 less than rival striker Wilberforce, but played 12 fewer games. He also picked up 5 yellow cards in the campaign. Stevenage finished the season in 11th place, 14 points behind those in the play-offs.

Robert James
Robert James has suffered repeated setbacks over the second half of the season. In early March he broke his arm during a training session, spending 5 weeks on the sidelines. James returned to the u-20s side and made sporadic appearances for the Kilmarnock reserve team, before injuring himself in training again, this time with a groin strain. James didn't recover in time for the end of the season and only made 3 appearances (1 as a sub) for the first team. He managed however to appear on 24 occassions for the U-20s and reserves, scoring an impressive 4 goals, making 12 assists, and earnt the man of the match award on 4 seperate occassions. James is currently being mentored by Craig Bryson (who made his international debut in November). Although preferentially a player in the defensive mold, Kilmarnock have opted to play him further up the pitch where he's been a key play-maker, with nearly 1000 of 1250 passes successfully completed. Kilmarnock finished the season 3rd, above expectations, but behind champions Celtic by a whopping 29 points.

Sam Wuude
Wuude's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in the January window was the link-up that was on everybodys lips, and the biggest player-movement to date. It has, however, not turned out all rosey for Wuude at Spurs. A torn groin muscle ruled him out for 5 weeks in April, but besides that has only managed to make 6 appearances, with 1 goal for Spurs, all coming from the U-20s squad. With no first team appearances to date, it seems the Tottenham management are taking a slow approach with him, although Wuude is apparantly eager to go out on loan to get some play-time. Wuude has won all 44 attempted headers and 32 of 35 attempted tackles. For now, too, he has been converted into a make shift right back, and all of his appearances thus far have been there. Tottenham finished the season fourth, making the Champions League places.

Henry Dean
By early April, a swathe of American clubs (no less than 10, even) swooped in to sign Henry Dean, and after careful consideration, he decided to put pen to paper and signed for Charlestone Battery. Dean was reported to have said he was "relieved" to be getting into competitive action.
(I should mention that FM2010 isn't particulary fond of the U.S leagues, and only the top division is included, the MLS. However, because Dean has joined a club in a league below that (which FM2010 doesn't cover), there are no matches for him to participate in. There's clubs alright, just no competitions as such. Which I wasn't aware of. I suppose the best we can hope for is that he gets a transfer out of the U.S to a another league where he will get some play time.)

FM2010 EXPERIMENT
YEAR 2
JULY 2010-JAN 2011
Shock and horrors. That's all I'll say.
Edward Ezzington
A number of clubs, including League 2 outfit Lincoln city and BSP promotion candidates Oxford United were reportedly tracking Ezzington through late July and after a bid from the latter was received, Ezzington soon signed for the U's on a 3-year deal. He would now be playing in the same league as Wilbeforce, Stirling and Orlov. Ezzington was an un-used substitute in Oxford's narrow 2-1 victory over R&D in September, where a late Stirling goal couldn't salvage anything for the Diamonds and he was named man of the match in his second competitive league game against Eastbourne. Despite being predicted to finish within the top 3, Oxford found itself way down in 19th by Octobor and the club sought a new manager. After 4 appearances for the reserves, Ezzington forced his way into the first team and has been a mainstay since. Ezzington's versatility is reflected in the positions he has occupied. By December he's played 5 times as a right midfielder, 4 as an attacking right midfielder and 5 as a striker. Ezzington has made 16 first team appearances for Oxford so far, scoring 3 times with 1 assist. Despite the clubs early poor form, they've risen back up to 9th.

Omnipotent Onslawt
Onslawt has made quiet progress over the first half of the season. With Reggina's promotion to Serie A it perhaps doesn't come as a suprise to learn that Onslawt has not made a single first team appearance so far. He has however featured regularily for the U-20s and reserves, with 18 appearances, 5 goals, 2 assists and 2 man of the match awards accredited to him. Onslawt still wishes to go out on loan. Reggina currently lie 19th in Serie A and are embroiled in a bitter relegation-scrap to survive, with only 2 wins from 17.

Fordius Dulkaroglu
Unfortunately, Fordius Dulkaroglu was unable to find a club, and has therefore took it upon himself to retire from football. Fordius Dulkaroglu is reportedly these days an admirer of large women.
Dirgedown Verll
With the Italian league finished, but the Norwegian ongoing, Serie A outfit Siena made a £200,000 + clauses offer during the summer transfer window for promising centre-back Verll. Åsane, Verll's club, is currently only estimated to be worth £350,000, and so understandably they quickly consented to the deal, as did Verll shortly after. Verll's transfer to the debt-ridden club was made immediate. Verll has played 18 times for Siena's U-20's, has won 99/111 tackles and 139/142 headers. Siena currently lie 13th in Serie A, above pre-season expectations.

Franky Mielo
Unfortunately, Franky Mielo was unable to find a club, and has therefore took it upon himself to retire from football. We thank Franky Mielo for his participation (?).
Willaim Wilberforce
In early July, Wilberforce put pen to paper and signed an improved contract with R&D, quelling any suggestions of him being involved in a transfer away from Nene Park in the near future. Wilberforce eagerly repaid the management by bagging 5 goals in his first 6 league games of the season, helping Rushden soar to the top of the league. Wilberforce continued this fine run and secured his first competitive hat-trick in the 4-0 thrashing of Eastbourne. However, such euphoria was soon marred when he damaged his foot against Crawley and was predicted to be out for anywhere up to a month. Wilberforce has appeared 22 times for the first team and has racked up a respectful tally of 13 goals from 46 attempts, with 2 assists and 2 man of the match awards. He has also managed to earn 5 yellow cards which resulted in a 1 match suspension. Rushden currently lie 4th in the playoff spots, but it is very tight at the top of the table.

Willem de Jong
Unfortunately, Willem de Jong was unable to find a club, and has

Danny Stirling
Stirling kicked off Rushden's campaign with some magical performances, with one in particular occuring during R&D's 3-0 rout of H&W. After only 5 league starts, Stirling had managed to score 2 and create 2 assists (7.82 rating), with a further 1 goal and 2 assists from 2 pre-season friendlies (8.20). Despite spending 6 weeks sidelined due to a sprained ankle, Stirling has appeared more than any other play for Rushden this season so far, 30 times to be exact. He has supplied 9 assists and scored 6 goals for the first team, with perhaps suprisingly only 1 man of the match award to his name. Stirling has covered more distance than any other player in the experiment so far this season, 206 km to be precise, but still manages to maintain a poor successful pass % of 48. The Wilberforce-Stirling partner ship doesn't look to be broken up any time soon, as both have just agreed to contract extentions. Rushden currently lie 4th in the playoff spots, but it is very tight at the top of the table.

DLDs Pancreas
Without a doubt though, the biggest transfer saga of the summer transfer window surrounded Pancreas. The Swedish centre-back whose dazzling performances last season for his sides U-20's squad had raised his profile enormously, suddenly found himself confronted with a transfer bid from footballing giants Barcelona. Pep Guardiolo was reported to have lined Pancreas up as a long-term replacement for the aging Rafael Márquez. With a bid of £2,500,000 + future incentives, Livorno made no attempt to block the transaction. 2 days later Pancreas signed for the Catalan giants on a 4 year deal. Since then he has gone on to make 18 appearances for the U-20s side, with 1 goal, 4 assists and 4 man of the match awards. The central defender boasts a near perfect defensive record, having not made any mistakes leading to goals, won 103/110 tackles and 114/119 headers. Barcelona's U-20s side have only lost 2 of the game he's played in, and the first team lie in first in La Liga, 4 points clear of fierce rivals Real Madrid and are currently in the 1st knockout round stages of the Champions League.

Matt Malicki
Unfortunately, Matt Malicki was unable to find a club, and has
therefore took it upon himself to retire from football. We thank Matt Malicki for his participation (?).
Alexander Orlov
Orlov's side, Stevenage, had a terrible start to the season, and it was perhaps reflected by the strikers poor run of form. The club already seemed to rely heavily on the young striker, but with injuries to other key personel, the highest earner at the club just couldn't seem to find the back of the net. It took him 540 minutes to net his first goal of the season. Orlov's form picked up a little thereafter, but it wasn't enough to save the management, who were sacked in October while lying in 20th. So far the young striker has made 26 first team appearances, with a return of 8 goals, 3 assists and 1 man of the match award. Like Wilberforce, Orlov has a knack of getting himself into trouble, having been given 6 yellow cards. Stevenage currently lie in 16th position, well below their predicted 8th, but 9 points clear of the relegation zone.

Robert James
Robert James might have thought the worst of his injury blights were behind him, but a hip injury in early September was to rule him out for 2 months, before the season had even gotten into full swing. After recovering from the injury, James came back to the reserve team, only to break his nose. The management seemed to be of the opinion he could play through the pain, and James played the very next game, only to end up bruising his thigh and spent another week on the physio's table. In mid December, James broke his leg vs Falkirk's reserves and is expected to be out for up to 6 months. Clearly these repeated set backs were snuffing out his chances of regular action. The boy has undoubted talent, but doesn't seem to be up to the physicality of the game quite yet. Perhaps he would be better suited at Golf Manager 2010. When James has been fit, he's played 15 times for the youth and reserve teams, scoring once and has assisted in 7 goals, with 5 man of the match awards and over 450 successful passes. Kilmarnock lie in 5th position in the SPL, 23 points behind leaders Rangers.

Sam Wuude
Wuude started out the season, much as he finished it. He hadn't managed to break into Spur's first team, but at least now he was playing for the reserves, albeit most of his early season appearances came as a substitute. Wuude has also received call ups to the Belgian U-19s international squad and featured intermittently there. Wuude is also the first person to appear on the European stage. Last seasons finishing place entitled Tottenham a spot in the CL playoffs, preceding the Champions League group stages. But in a tough tie against La Liga's Valencia, Spurs lost 3-4 on aggregrate and instead were "demoted" to the UEFA Cup. After Corluka's injury after 6 minutes in the UEFA Cup grp B game against Luzern (which Spurs later went on to win 2-0 with goals from Defoe and Pavlyuchenko), Spurs manager Harry Redknapp called on the young defender to slot in (where he earned a remarkable 7.9 rating). Despite his European exploit, Wuude has only appeared 10 times for the reserves, with 1 goal, 1 assist and 33/42 tackles and 45/47 headers. Tottenham are currently played 4th in the EPL, 5 points behind leaders Man Utd, and they are also in the UEFA first knockout round, pitted against German side Leverkuson.

Henry Dean
Henry Dean rejected repeated one year extension offers on his contract from Charleston, fueling suggestions that he was prepared to leave the club in the near future, in order to gain competitive football. His stubborness seemed to have paid off, as MLS side Kansas City soon swooped and offered him a contract which he accepted. Kansas were ordered to pay Charleston £325,000 in compensation. The MLS season has yet to start.
