Final Fantasy XIII is AWESOME
20:58:03 Jun 7th 10 - Mr. Nub:

I have just completed the game and it just blew me away. Never once in my whole life, have I ever seen such an awesome game.
I mean really, the storyline is so deep and touching, the gameplay is so addicting and awesome.

All those who say they hate the game are in denial of such a grand masterpeice. I mean really, it seriously tops every other final fantasy big time, and I would even say its the best game of all time!. All I have to say about this game are 2 words. Pure genius.

21:03:29 Jun 7th 10 - Lady Megan Fox:

Well, I did enjoy the game a lot, I only wish it had more "side quests"; it was a lot more start at point A and go to point B than some of their other games :/

22:42:28 Jun 7th 10 - Lady Patches Ohoulihan:

It's a crap game. I'm a massive ff fan and I thought it was crap.

The storyline - sucky
The names - at least everyone up to ff10, possbily 12 has decent names. Lightning? What kinda name is that?
The battle system - not really ff anymore. It's just hit auto-battle until you win.
The levelling system - a downgraded ff10 system.

I've had it since it was out and I played it for 2 days, getting to mid disc 2 and I haven't played it since.

01:48:48 Jun 8th 10 - Mr. Leadthrower:

Best FF game ever?  Seriously?  Have you even played the older FF games?

02:48:31 Jun 8th 10 - Mr. Path:

Yer, for me at least, final fantasy 4 was the best.  FF6 had a lot of great improvements, but it also was bland with the fact everyone could do (almost) everything.  I admit I'm weird in this but I liked when rpgs were text or 2d.  Game designers were infinitely more creative when they didn't have to worry about making graphics for a cool new ability/feature.  The imagination could fill the gaps and the gameplay was a lot more enjoyable.

Anyhow...I got ff13 the day it came out, haven't finished it, so I can't comment on the story too much.  But I don't understand any hate for the names.  How can Cloud be okay and Lightning not?

Finally, someone with common sense!

Yeah I played everyone one of them! 7, 9, 10 = boring. Rest = semi ok. FFXIII = OMFG AWESOME MASTERPEICE!!!!!!!! Seriously, you got bad tastes.

WHAT are you talking about??? you must be delusional.

07:53:35 Jun 8th 10 - Mr. Leadthrower:

Honestly, if you think it's the best FF ever, or even second or third best; you're the one w/ bad taste..... It's sad when today's gamers are so easily appeased by something as simple as pretty graphics. That's pretty much all the new games are, pretty graphics.

I can think of 3 FF games with better stories:  IV, VI and VII
Pretty much any FF game had better combat, the new system while entertaining at first quickly became too easy thus boring. The only up-side of the new system was it was slightly faster.
The leveling system was poorly implemented.
Way too linear, yea I know FF games are.. but this was just horrid.
Also the fact that they had such great graphics everywhere but the characters' arms and hands (which looked like they were designed for a game 8-10years old) made the whole thing look bad.

Though even with all its faults, I will say that it's the best RPG for consoles I've played in a long time. Yet nowhere near as good as IV.

08:04:42 Jun 8th 10 - Fire Lord Nova The Diamond Ninja:

Overall it was a great game. I got it the day it came out in the US and beat the "story line" in a week. (i was on vacation! lol)
I must admit that the first 20-30hr were very boring for game play but thats when most of the story line is also given. Battles during that time were also fairly brainless with next to no sub quest given.

As for the "Post Story Line" quest and trophy's to obtain, you can easily spend 5x more time trying to do those then you did beating the story line itself. IMO, that is where the game play really comes out. Battles are no longer just auto and go and one slip up means certain doom.

20:51:04 Jun 8th 10 - Mr. Ois:

<3 10!

00:42:45 Jun 9th 10 - Lord Emerald Legatus:

Being OCD about my rpg's, I am still currently getting all of the tier 3 weapons and fully upgraded accessories but admittedly I have played better FF's.

My main complaints were the lack of control over my party member's actions and the lack of sidequests and tough optional bosses <remember the hell wyrm in FF XII?>

But on the other hand I can think of several FF's that were much worse <remembers IX and shudders> so its not bad, i had fun with it. Yarlin is right, the latter missions in the post game requires alot more strategy and timing <give me those damned traps, stoopid turtles!!>

01:00:48 Jun 9th 10 - Lady Patches Ohoulihan:

Well yes, Cloud is a shitty name too. But what other shit names did ff7 have? None off the top of my head.

Off the top of my head:

Hope, Snow and Serah (Lost Odyssey anyone?) are also pretty shitty names.

01:24:28 Jun 9th 10 - Mr. Bonetroll:

Admitedly I dunno much about rpg's today and I have not played any of the FF's but from what I've seen from a few of the latest rpg's I can do naught but support Mr Leadthrower statement when he says today's gamers are so easily appeased by all the pretty graphics.

Until I played Dagger (now were talking oldskool) Ultima8 was for me one of the best rpg's I'd come across. Now, the graphics in Dagger are absolutely crappy with very limited character portraits taking on both male and female roles
... but if you can get beyond that, the game, for it's age, would be better than many of the rpg's I have seen todate, especially if it got a facelift by simply introducing more character portraits put in their proper male/female roles - If there is one rpg I would love to revive and improve upon it would be Dagger.

If your really into rpg's and have never played it your totally missing out, especially as it's available for free today, courtesy of the developers though you might need DosBox to play it (also free).

I'd love to hear from others what their best rpg's to date have been,  both old and nu-skool but would especially love to hear from those that have played Dagger and can more or less give their view and compare it with some of the best rpg's since.

Bones

03:57:16 Jun 9th 10 - Mr. Dead Oralive:

Are you talking about The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall or something like that?

04:14:21 Jun 9th 10 - Mr. Path:

I wondered the same thing, sounds like it.  Excellent game....all the elder scrolls have been.  But once again I think the newer ones have let good gaming ideas take a backseat to whatever is easiest to make graphics for.

Modern rpgs you dont even need to pay attention to whatever the quest you are assigned.  Just blindly run at the little red arrow/line on your compass.  If you get lost, just check your highly detailed map.  Little hands on the screen point you the direction to go and icons are above the quest givers heads to let you know you need to talk to them.

05:20:59 Jun 9th 10 - Mr. Nub:

LOL this thread is a joke, ff13 was the worst ff yet. Such a big disapointment, because I spent $720 to play it. Ps3 = $600 in aus. And the game was $120. Thats around $652 in us$$$.

05:48:04 Jun 9th 10 - Mr. Bonetroll:

Yes Sir Mr Dead Orative, DaggerFall -The Elder Scrolls -Thanks, that is the one I talk about
... Did you play it and if so how do you rate it in comparison to more recent rpg's

06:23:13 Jun 9th 10 - Mr. Arthur Dent:

What are you talking about Nub?!  FF13 WAS THE BEST GAME EVER!  CAN'T PUT THE THING DOWN :D

07:08:45 Jun 9th 10 - King Burninglegion The Doombringer:

theFinal fantasy 13 is good so far im about 4 hours into it, iv been to busy working to play it often, one thing i dont like is how easy it is to fight

i wish it was more difficult but the graphics and story is pretty good

08:56:09 Jun 9th 10 - Duke Some Fcked Dude:

ALL FF= SH!T game's altogether =)

15:49:11 Jun 9th 10 - Lady Patches Ohoulihan:

Played on it again last night, meh. The battle system sucks so bad. It's a good idea in theory, if it was still turn based, control all the players fully, sort of thing.

05:56:55 Jun 10th 10 - Mr. Dead Oralive:

Yes Sir Mr Dead Orative, DaggerFall -The Elder Scrolls -Thanks, that is the one I talk about

No never played I tried to though but my computers brand new with windows 7 and I cant seem to figure out how to get it to play it in a mode that its compatible with on windows 7 without some stupid error >_<

Oh and to me The Elder Scrolls games are some of the top tier RPG games you can buy but they are getting carried away with graphics and not letting the story be a main part of them. So much potential yet they lack the story to back it up and that is a major downfall for me :( I still like them though

FF= The better Story telling rpg
The Elder Scrolls = Better at building the world and immersing you in that world to explore RPG

Just imagine if the 2 creators got together and created a game that took the best of both worlds!!!!!

07:26:25 Jun 10th 10 - Mr. Bonetroll:

I think to run it you would need to use a Dos emulator, I used DosBox which I believe works in all Windows environments, 32 & 64 bit and  is free.
I recall that you do need to somewhat reconfigure DosBox to run Dagger (as it is called under Dos) but it is relatively easy though I cannot of the top of my head remember where I got the info on the req. tweaks, you would have to search that out.

Yes, I'd have to agree, would probably be awesome if they got together.

17:28:53 Jun 10th 10 - Mr. Vuggy:

Final Fantasy sux

17:32:01 Jun 10th 10 - Duke Some Fcked Dude:

elder scrolls ^_^

17:38:25 Jun 10th 10 - Toaster Struddle:

Eh I bought it but cant bring myself to play it hell I even got a second copy for free and still have yet to open and or play it......

19:43:24 Jun 10th 10 - Mr. Nub:

omfg these blueray disks are SOOO fragile. I just droped the disk from a metre hieght and it shattered on the end, and cracked all the way to the hole in the center. Oh well, it was only ff13, no big loss. Say, can I have your spare toaster?

05:01:34 Jun 11th 10 - Mr. Dead Oralive:

Did you know blu-ray found a metal that can store like 1 terabyte of data on 1 disc and is cheaper to make disc with then what they are curerntly using!? Thats a shit load of space :P

07:32:26 Jun 11th 10 - Pirate Aye Was Elf But Restarted:

I liked:

FFVIII (most) & FFX

FFVIII was just awesome with the flying school!

07:40:27 Jun 11th 10 - Mr. Ask Jeeves:

FF9 for the win best character development.

11:27:38 Jun 11th 10 - Lady Patches Ohoulihan:

Played it last night too, up to disc 3 now.

It's abit better, but it's in no way as good as most of the other FFs.

04:17:36 Jun 15th 10 - Mr. Vuggy:

Final Fantasy is a boring game..

18:01:03 Jun 22nd 10 - Sir Arvious The Inactive:

Meh... haven't finished it yet.  I somewhat like it, but overall, it feels like they spent too much time on cool graphics instead of gameplay and story.  True, there are some cool parts in the game, but overall it's only a slight improvement from FFXII.

Also, all who think Lightening was a badass fighter, say Aye.

23:18:14 Jun 25th 10 - Mr. Bugger:

Somewhat. Nothing like cloud though, even though she is meant to be the female version of him. Well, you know what they say, never send a woman to do a mans job :D

16:19:34 Jun 27th 10 - Mr. Path:

Got a bit further into the game....really getting sick of the single corridor BS.  I heard it opened up later on, but, must be later than I am.  Also, I'm ready to strangle every character in the game for whining constantly.

What is the point of making a game where none of the characters are enjoyable?

16:30:20 Jun 27th 10 - Mr. Vuggy:

That's how Final Fantasy has been for its whole existence. xD

02:53:26 Jun 28th 10 - Mr. Bugger:

Thats only because your either too unintelligent to understand it, too impatient, or just someone who absolutely *must* and I mean a *must* see constant blowing up, killing, more blowing up, blood and guts everywhere, yet even more blowing up, and yeah, just blowing stuff up.

03:03:43 Jun 28th 10 - King Charley The Sprisely Active:

Americans!

17:07:36 Jun 28th 10 - Mr. Vuggy The Annoying Bastard:

Ur just angreh cuz u no r gud at Call of Dooty

03:56:38 Jun 30th 10 - Mr. Slegna Naila:

I like FF as much as the next(most good RPG's are Jap) and im American but I gotta say that when you make guys look like chicks you start to wonder about the Japanese and their preferences...

04:51:26 Jun 30th 10 - Mr. Admirable:

They way the characters look (hairstyle etc) is quite common in some places that aren't America.

05:08:10 Jun 30th 10 - Mr. Vuggy The Annoying Bastard:

Some places that aren't America. So more than one place is the epitome of America? Well there's south, central, and north America.. which one you wanna choose? :P

04:38:25 Jul 1st 10 - Mr. Slegna Naila:

Its common to have guys look like girls in other countries? No wonder why we make fun of you peeps :P

05:14:20 Jul 1st 10 - Mr. Vuggy The Annoying Bastard:

Oh you have no idea about girl/guy identities until you see some of the American women... *shudders*

11:20:12 Jul 1st 10 - Mr. Barny:

FF5 was my favorite in terms of gameplay.

FF13 failed on a lot of levels. I didn't bother to read the thread, but I assume at least a few other people agree with me. There were a million disappointments, but the linear story progression was the most apparent. Regardless, it was still an enjoyable game; but I had hoped for more.

06:11:54 Jul 2nd 10 - Mr. Slegna Naila:

Oh you have no idea about girl/guy identities until you see some of the American women... *shudders*

I live here and shudders is an understatement >_>
