The Caverns Of Twyn
------------------------------

Deep in the heart of the land of Ardoun war is brewing. The native dwarfs of the valley of Twyn were under constant siege from the humans. The Dwarfs had lived within the caverns inside the valley for thousands of years, peacefully digging their way through every resource the valley held. Humans had heard of the riches the Dwarfs kept deep within the caverns, Humans led by greed and hunger for resources would not give in easily.

The Dwarfs led by Fox The Relentless had first heard of invading Humans when an outcast of the colony had returned screaming of them.

The outcast had previously left to find riches outside of the valley, but had been stopped a meer 4 days into his quest when he heard of advancing Humans which were marching through the heart of Ardoun. The outcast who went by the name of Dramborleg had reached the city of Anduril the capital of the county of Stranda. Dramborleg had headed for the city of Anduril as he had heard of great riches beyond the city and past the mountain of Syn.

After reaching the city he heard news of the advancing human armies led by Lord Thor from the far west of Ardoun, from a drunk inside the Beast Of Syn Inn, in which he was staying. At first Dramborleg did not believe what he was told, afterall it was a drunk who had spoke these words. After having a lengthy conversation with Santa the Inn keeper the topic of the advancing armies was raised, Santa did indeed confirm the story. Dramborleg asked of what the intentions of the advancing armies was, The Inn keeper told him that the armies were advancing to take over new lands and find new riches far from their home, he spoke of how Lord Thor was an evil hearted man and would stop at nothing to gain these riches. Dromborleg became instantly worried for the Dwarfs, even though Dremborleg was an outcast he still felt dearly for his family and friends he had there. He asked the Inn keeper how far away Lord Thor's men were, the Inn keeper told him they were a mere 2 days walk due west. Dramborleg became panicked, running to his room he packed his possessions and ran out of the Inn, the Inn keeper shouted after him but Dramborleg just kept running as fast as his small legs could carry him.

He kept running for 3 days and 3 nights until he reached the valley of Twyn. Screaming out loud Dramborleg hoped to be heard by his fellow dwarfs. Allas though, the dwarfs were deep inside the caverns and could not hear his cries. Behind him Dramborleg could hear faintly the sound of war drums, Lord Thor's men were closing fast. He picked up his goods and ran down into the valley stumbling over time and time again, landing in a pile at the bottom of the entrance, picking himself up he left his possessions and ran for the caverns on the otherside of the valley.

He got to the door which was shut but not locked. Running inside he screamed out hoping someone would hear him. A little way down the cavern a dwarf by the name of Evans heard his cries and came running. Asking immediately what the matter was, Dramborleg looked up into Evans' eyes. Evans looked down realizing who it was, telling Dramborleg he wasn't supposed to be here and that he should leave, Dramborleg interupted and explained what he had heard and how the dwarfs could b in great peril. Evans not wanting to risk his fellow Dwarf's lives he rushed deep into the cavern leaving Dramborleg behind, so he could fetch Fox.

After reaching Fox he told him of what Dramborleg had heard and of that Dramborleg had come back to save them. Fox a wise Dwarf but still controlled by his beliefs was not happy to forgive Dramborleg but he did so for the sake of the Dwarves.

Fox ordered the Dwarfs into the caverns and to prepare the weapons and armour. For 1 day and 1 night the only noise within the caverns was the noise of hammering on anvils and the noise of pic axe*beep*ting rocks.

The best Dwarves worked constantly preparing hand made Dwarven armour made from the precious material known as Mithril. They also worked hard to produce strong axes made from the hardest of all metals found within the caverns.

On the crack of dawn the next day Lord Thors war drums could be heard loudly from within the caverns, they had reached the edge of the valley. Noticing the dwarven caverns down inside the valley Lord Thor ordered his men to prepare for battle and march down into the valley.

A Dwarf scout placed in the centre of the valley upon seeing Lord Thor's men ran quickly back into the caverns shouting " HUMANS!!!"

Fox ordered his best fighters to put on their armour and take their weapons and prepare for war.

Lord Thor ordered his men to stop just as they got to the bottom of the valley. He stood waiting for what Fox would do next.

Fox stayed calm and ordered his men out into the cavern. Thousands of Dwarf fighters dressed in full hand-made Dwarven armour carrying their axes. They all came out and stood facing Lord Thor's men awaiting his response.

The fires of the dwarf armies crackled and a hue of smoke reached out across the valley and mingled with the mist in the dull half-light of the overcast dawn.

Though the grey veil the beat of hooves drew nearer.

"I think Twenty thousand my Lord ! "

Lord Thors great steed jostled against the heavy iron and bone battle dress. Thor, now jaded, his eyes sunken and cold from the many battles of Fantasia, turned to the scout. He was an older Orc, one of Sir Santa's elite Orcen Lightning force no doubt. Years of scouting had taught him to ride against the wind andto trust his nose when he caught the scent of dwarf in the air.

"Who ?" Said Thor staring into the mist at the speckled valled. The fires twinkling as though the skies had been upturned

"Generals Fox and Dramborleg my Lord !" said the scout stoutly, relieved that he had don't his duty.

"Does Santa ready the flank ? " Thor said after a pause. He had a clear voice, calm but with a steely resolve. His eyes stared at the scout as if trying to convey the scenes that would follow and the scout returned with a knowing scowl and an almost impercerptible nod...
"Aye m'Lord!...He awaits your signal."

"Then let it be done now !" boomed Thor "You ride with us my friend !" he reach through the space the orc had deliberately set between them and grasped the heavy Orcen armour and smiled a wry grim at the orc as he caught sight of the dwarf skulls that adorned the heavy saddle.

He raised the great Hammer..the bringer of thunder...the bustling of the viking warriors ceased and all that coulf be heard was the snorting of the warhorses in the cold damp air.

....."YAAAAAHHH !!!!" Thor swung the mighty hammer towrds the foe and in an instant he was leading the massed armies of the Viking hordes in madness through the valley towards the waiting dwarves.

Looking to either side he saw his men with fire in their eyes and hate in their hearts ready for the fight. But within the din the voices of his old friends returned to him. The days when he and the great general Fox had fought side by side, the many times they had defeated the enemy and then laughed long into the night by the camp fire with Evans, Santa, and Dramborleg.

But that was gone now...that was in another life, another time. A time before the Dark Side.

Fox the general of all the dwarves of Twyn. The bringer of wealt and of death, slowly walked out into the midle of the valley.

As he walked past his armies lined out beside him and as far as the eye could see infront, each Dwarf in turn bowing as their mighty general walked past.

"My lord i fight by ur side until the end!"

Fox turned to see a mere worker, not a fighter but a simple father.

"You are brave to stand before this mighty army, you shall be rewarded after the battle, whether that be here in our valley or with the gods above us."

The Dwarf bowed down on one knee and stared down.

Fox placed his hand on the Dwarf's shoulder then turned and walked by.

"EVANS!"

Evans came running by,

"My lord?"

"how many be there at a guess?"

"Thirty maybe fourty thousand meh lord, They bring with them the best cavalry in the land and even an orc, that is if my eyes do not decieve me."

Slowly walking along the armies Fox turns out to view the armies readying themselves. A glint of light shines from Lord Thor's eye as it catches the light of the burning sun above them.

Fox turns to Evans;

"i want you to prepare the......."

"The what meh lord?"

"The....... Troll soldiers"

"Are you sure sire?"

"Just do it!!!"

Evans runs back into the caverns to retrieve the Trolls.

Fox carries on walking along the lines looking into the eyes of each and every soldier that stands before him.

Fox stops and turns towards the Humans and stares into the eyes of Lord Thor, Staring deeper and deeper, Fox can sense the pain and the anger, the hatred for all living creatures, and the greed for possession, burning like a fire in his soul.

Evans emerges from the cavern doors standing atleast 8 feet behind him, followed by hundreds of rock trolls. The trolls make their way along the line of Dwarfs. They stop and turn, staring right at the Humans.

Fox turns back towards his soldiers.

"Today we are faced by a foe, fourty thousand strong, we number but twenty. We stand before them less in numbers but stronger in heart and soul. We shall fight for what is rightous, we shall fight for what we believe, we shall fight for our families, our wifes and our homes, we shall fight for our gods and our lives, our land and our possessions. But most of all, WE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM!!!"

Fox turns back to the enemy, war drums sound behind him, He raises his sword far above his head letting out an almighty cry.

"AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"

The armies cry out loudly together and charge into battle against advancing humans. The trolls stand tall above the dwarves holding their position. The dwarves make their way towards the humans at a blistering pace, Charging harder and faster, Just as they get close the heavens open letting out rivers of water, the ground becomes swamped almost immediately, the dwarves charge harder and faster led into the battle by their great leader Fox.

Fox swings his sword killing 5 men in one swing and charges right into the centre of the human lines folowed by all the dwarves except Evans.

Evans remains back with the trolls, he looks up and then back forward, looking on with eyes of sorrow.

The dwarves abliterate the front liine of the human armies but come up against the cavalry, the most skilled fighters ever to exist within Ardoun.

Fighting bravely onwards Dwarf after Dwarf are killed, what are they to do, the cavalry are destroying them, but the Dwarfs keep fighting.

Lord Thor looks on and realizes the Dwarf armies are much stronger than initially realized.

The hammer of Thor crashed into the fromt ranks of the dwarven vanguard. The melee all around him he sung and parried and swung again but the waves just kept coming. Amid the mess if swords, bodies and dying horses Thor spotted his signaler. "QUICK! SUMMON THE RESERVE!!!"

The young viking staggered back into the battleing ranks and drew from his tunic the battle conch of the viking warroirs. taken from the fjords and carried across the seas to now summon together the forces of the DArk Side in the hour of battle. Sounding the great shell the eerie tone echoed across the vally.

At first there seemed to be no movement from within the mist then to the east, a faint sparkle. So faint was it that Thor at first though he had dreamed it...but then another...and another..and another..until a thousand came alive on the horizon. Then slowly, like a swarm of fireflies the came. Moving as if on a cushion of fog itelf.

They drew nearer and then...at the front of the dancing flames a figure...astride a mighty warhorse..dressed in a flowing red gown, his great beard billowing inthe wind....his pipe aflame and sparkling..it was Santa.

It was the Great Legion of the Orcen Pipes charging towards the ranks of the dwarven armies, their pipes sparking as they role, Santa leading them on into battle. The very sight of him, his sword flashing as he crashed into the panicing dwarves. His men inspired, their pipes alight and glowing, rode zealously into the fight.

The smell of burning tobacco and the sight of the great crimson warroir amid a sea of enemy, felling them left and right, sparks flying from his pipe stopped all in their tracks, dwarf and human alike...to gaze upon the specatcle....today is a good day to die thought Thor...a glorious day...and he turned once more towards his foe...

The sound of the calls from the Humans and the sounds of marching could be heard ringing through every Dwarfs ears, louder and louder until it became deafening.

Fox stood stiff staring up the valley,

"No this cannot be......"

Fox went cold, he turned to his few loyal men that remained, he pointed up the valley.

"We need to STOP THEM!"

Evans heard the cry, feeling scared he started to shake uncontrollably, the Trolls behind him looked down and knew what they had to do.

With a flame of passion in their souls and anger in their eyes, the Trolls charged forwards towards their foes.

Five hundred plus trolls charging towards humans stood stone cold still, the Trolls wielding their almighty clubs each one rose it above their heads in synchronisation, taking an almight swing, all Trolls swung their mighty clubs in anger destroying Human after Human that had broke through the Dwarven lines.

Fox seeing this became filled with a passion, re-invigerated with adrenaline.

"CHARGE!"

Fox charged into more advancing Humans, his loyal men close on his heels. The Trolls advancing fast behind them drove through the dwarven lines and right into the heart of the remaining Humans, the Humans stood with pure fear on their faces as the Trolls charged into hem as if each one was a speeding train out of control.

Lord Thor spotting the trools charging rode his mighty stallion back towards his reinforcements that were heading over the entrance of the valley.

.."FALL BACK!!" went out the cry from the Viking commanders. The rearguard action was chaoti..furious;y the Viking agxemen hacked and parried as the advancing trolls.

They broke ranks and fled..Thor, unseated from his trusty steed made towards the battleing ords to the east of the field of battle. Hacking and swinging the mighty hammer as he went. Then..without warning his footing lost on a stray pipe and fell to the ground the mighty hammer crashing on his chest his last breath unheard amongst the countless others.

Fox stopped dead in his tracks knocking back a charging Human with his almighty boot.

He heard the voice of Lord Thor

.."FALL BACK!!" It screamed

Fox looked on through the mist of the battle, as he stared on he could see Lord Thor jump from his stallion and swing his mighty hammer, from behind he could see......

Evans

"how in the Lords name did Evans get there?" Fox wondered.

Fox turned and sure enough behind him Evans was not there. He looked back just in time to see Evan's hammer disappear out of view.

Fox was un aware of what had happened. He charged forwards swinging his mighty axe as he went, closer he got closer and closer.

He stopped as he got to a small clearing. Silence fell over the warriors.

Looking on Fox could see Evans standing tall looking down upon Lord Thor. Lord Thor was lay down clutching for breathes, Fox walked over and kneeled at his side.

Looking into Thor's eyes he could see pure terror, he could see anger and greed but most of all he could see the terror. It was written on Thor's face, the unstoppable thor, leader of the greatest army in the land, lay dieing at Fox's feet.

Standing up Fox still looking down he spoke to Thor.

"In this life of yours Thor, you have brought hate and fear to all your people, you have brought fear to everyone you have touched. I cannot say i am upset at this sight, but i will say i am not happy. I do not want to see you die, I would rather see you turn around and leave this valley had none of this befallen us. I would rather you left and never returned, I would rather you have changed and brought peace to the world. But alas i see you dieing at my feet, May this be over for us all, and Thor, May you live on in the afterlife making right what you have done wrong in this."

Fox turned and walked away slowly, Evans close behind.

Thor who lay dieing clutched forhis final breathe, his eyes closed slowly and his head rolls to one side. It was over, Fox had won, he had saved his people and his land from slavery or death.

Fox stopped, he turned and saw Santa and his men. They had stopped on the valley entrance, Santa jumped down from his steed and removed his helmet. It was the Inn keeper, he looked down upon the valley and nodded to Fox, he jumped back onto his steed, turned and rode away with his orc armies.

This valley had been the death of too many people this day, Santa knew his friend had died and he did not want to lose the lives of many of his soldiers.

The valley of Twyn was safe as were the Caverns......For now atleast.
