An orphan trained as a monk since birth, Omi is the Xiaolin Dragon of Water. He is short and usually appears wearing his Xiaolin robe. Omi is bald and has nine dots on his forehead that are likely to be literal parallels to incense burn marks that Buddhist monks receive to distinguish themselves amongst other monks. They tend to glow before Omi uses his special attacks or when he senses danger approaching. Only the most powerful characters have the dots, however, of all the characters with dots, Omi has the most (nine). Master Monk Guan, for instance, has six. Grand Master Dashi hints that Omi will one day become a Grand Master Xiaolin Dragon. When Dashi creates a new puzzle box for Omi to use against Wuya, Omi is amazed by Dashi's power. Dashi says "Omi you can do a lot of things when you're a Grand Master Xiaolin Dragon, you'll see someday", giving Omi a wink. He is the smallest of the four Dragons.He fought diligently with the other Xiaolin Dragons against Jack Spicer and the Heylin witch, Wuya. When Raimundo went to the Heylin side and helped Wuya take over the world, Omi went back in time using Jack Spicer's time machine to seek help from the only other person to have defeated Wuya, Grand Master Dashi.[2]
Unfortunately, despite getting a box to seal Wuya in, Omi was unable to get back as the time machine he went through was only one way. However, he managed to come up with a solution - freeze himself with the Orb of Tornami and wait until he was back in the present day, at which point he helped the other Xiaolin Dragons change Raimundo's heart and ways, upon which the witch was defeated.[12]
Despite Wuya's defeat, Omi and his friends would not escape fights with the Heylin side and eventually Omi is stalked by the Heylin Tai Chi Master, Chase Young. He is taught a few new moves and constantly tested by the Chase Young, unconsciously prodded towards the Heylin side by the evil Heylin villain.[13][14]
Through a fabricated prophecy, Chase Young makes Omi use the Ying Yo-Yo, but since he did not know the effects of the Shen Gong Wu, he became a Heylin monk.[15] Then, Raimundo, Kimiko, and Clay decided it was their turn to save Omi by going into the Ying-Yang World to retrieve his chi; they did that by combining both the Ying and Yang Yo-Yo, and almost to the point Omi was going to destroy all of them with his awesome Heylin powers, his chi was returned to where it belongs. Still, Omi had no option but to stay at Chase's side due to his word as monk.[16] His friends in a game of Xiaolin Soccer then saved him.[17] When Omi and his fellow monks were told to go on their choice of quest, the outcome of which would finally determine who would be Team Leader, Omi decided to travel back in time and stop Hannibal Roy Bean from turning Chase Young evil. He froze himself with the Orb of Tornami and traveled to the future, where he hoped he could find Old Omi and recover the Sands of Time. However, he failed to grasp the fact that he would not be there to grow old, and so while he slept, Jack Spicer took advantage of his absence and became ruler of the world, imprisoning the other monks and his evil competitors. However, with the help of the older Kimiko, Raimundo and Clay, Omi was able to steal the Sands and continue his quest, but not before witnessing the deaths of his friends.[18]
Upon arriving in the distant past, Omi was able to witness Wuya's imprisonment, and was able to succeed in stopping Chase's betrayal (by swapping Hannibal's Lao-Mang-Long Soup with Pea Soup). Unfortunately, he realized his objective had not gone completely according to plan when he returned to a very unexpected present... his changing time had led Hannibal to convert Master Monk Guan after his failure with Chase, who was far more powerful, kicking the monks out of the temple and imprisoning Master Fung in the Ying-Yang World. Omi refused to give in, and with the help from his demoralized friends and a good Chase Young, he attacked the temple, stopped himself from traveling to the future and set things right.[9]
