18:01:56 Oct 6th 15 - Mr. Quirinus IV:

Are userscripts allowed?
(brower run, client side JS/jQuery scripts)

I'm not talking about scripts that would automatically play parts or all the game for you based on a set of conditions and rules. (so, not an AI)

Just ease of life improvements that would do:
  1. Graphical and interface improvements, like changing colors and making various information that is already available more visible or put them in a better spot.
  2. Calculate and show various numbers so I don't have to have a calculator open all the time to do tedious and mundane calculations over and over, for example, when building/training.
These scripts would *not*:
  1. Play (parts or all) the game for you.
  2. Give a significant advantage to the people using it. (It'd just save a small bit of time and effort.)
  3. Share data between players via 3rd party channels.
  4. Offer people some of the premium features that you get for donating.
  5. Open up a gazillion pages at once to crawl data and thus clog the server; they would just use the already available information.
  6. Constantly refresh pages.
  7. Cause a performance hit to the VU server - everything would be executed via JS/jQuery on the client side.
Basically, I'm talking about uTools (parts of which I wrote /brag xD) and to a lesser extent Utopia Angel, that people use for Utopia - only such scripts for Visual Utopia.
There's already people posting and using various Attack Calculator spreadsheets in Excel, and I remember writing and releasing publicly a 3rd party tool for building many years ago (outdated now). I bet there's people using various tools/scripts right now.

uTools and Utopia Angel (and more) are allowed in Utopia, so please allow us to use similar tools here. Again, I'm not talking about the forbidden scripts that some people use in Utopia to automatically play/farm the game for them (even when away from computer), or excessive use of automation. I'm just talking about reducing some of the more tedious parts of the game, and changing the interface a bit more to my liking.

The only problem I see with it is that some people might consider this "cheating", if it gets too elaborate. I don't really see that many things which could be significantly improved/elaborated upon. Thus the players using this would not have an unfair advantage over the others, but would just save a bit of time and effort, as I said earlier.

I don't like releasing unfinished/unpolished/unoptimized stuff, but once I get some stuff down, I'll make suggestions and offer useful code bits to the public, if you allow it - some of which could be my official suggestions for the game.

Yes and No. You can make changes to the image pack, witch also includes all JS files. But you are not encouraged to make third party applications or plug-ins that alters the client.

If I ever come to make a new version of the game, witch is on my to-do list, I will most likely make the whole client open source.

Some time ago, kingdom members didn't share their LOS. And someone made an app that allowed them to do so. Then I implemented it into the game.

how long ago was that?

23:26:52 Dec 30th 15 - ZeTa (VU Admin):

Several years ago, maybe in 2005, I do not remember.

23:33:02 Dec 30th 15 - Arkantos (Sir Ajax):

I'm pretty sure I started playing in 2005/2006 and I do not remember it. But i'm not as ancient as some of the players still kicking.
