| 13:17:53 May 23rd 13 - ZeTa (VU Admin): There was a big hype about this back in 1990. I don't think much have happened more then that the systems have become a lot cheaper. Basically what it does it so provide depth to 3d games, by showing different images for the eyes. Just like 3d movies. Something that would be cool though is to have transparent glasses and have stuff rendered based on what you see. So that you can play doom in your living room and hide behind your couch. | ||||
| 12:01:28 May 24th 13 - Mr. Jack Frost: @VU admin, the oculus rift is the headset part of this video, and is totally separate from the omni, (which is the treadmill & motion tracking camera). The oculus rift has 3D screens, not 2D, which gives a full 3D field of view. You also cannot see any part of the oculus when you wear it, you can only see inside the game world. It also has a motion sensor and will recognize any head movement. When you turn or move your head in real life, you literally look around in the game world. There's also no lag, plenty of people have tried turning their heads as fast as they can, but they cannot cause it to lag. And because it works so well, when people take it off after using it for a bit, they actually find it disorientating to suddenly go from the game world, to real life. So while it isn't exactly transparent glasses, I do think it's kind of better, due to the added feature. These are just early prototypes though. The finished product will probably seem close to a holodeck during actual use. | ||||
