I think with the suicide attack, your army fights with 2 times the ferocity and damage, but 3/4 the defencive power (they aren't as good vs. enemies in a rage)

1. He'll have lost more than he killed.
2. 17% is hardly a low %, many people have hit stuff at alot lower % than that and won over the eras. For example, I won two battles under 20% then one under 10% in a row a few eras back. I'm sure many others have done better.

poor wilber, why do you have to put a downer on anything anyone says :) your getting like quiteone. pretty lucky shot tbh. quite nice if you manage that and give enough time for reinforcements to arrive.

I remember stopping arma with 13% chance. That was awesome :D
