FM2010 EXPERIMENT

YEAR 2

JAN 2010-JUN 2010

Edward Ezzington

What with recent injuries to Oxford's strikers, Ezzington was switched off the wing to the striker position for the time being and performed reasonably, but not spectacularly well. Ezzington retained the strikers mantle even after Constable and co regained their fitness, which surely was a mismanagement on the U's part, as they eventually slipped out of the BSP Playoff places and into 6th, 1 point below what was required of them. Ezzington made 27 league appearances, scoring 9 times with 0 assists and 1 MotM, with 5 FA Trophy appearances (1 goal, 1 assist). The winger played 21 times in the striker position this season, with 18/43 shots on target. Despite being played regularily out of position, he was reportedly happy with his stature in the club.

Overall match rating: 6.92

Omnipotent Onslawt

Despite spending nigh-on 2 years in Italy now, Onslawt can't boast knowing more than a few words in Italian. The striker made 37 appearances for Reggina's youth and reserve squads this season, scoring a modest 10 goals, with 3 assists and 2 MotM, and has also earnt a straight red card. 32 of his 63 shots have been on target, but only 10 of those led to goals which left him with an average goal occuring every 326 minutes. Reggina finished the season on about target, 17th, and were 1 point above the relegation zone.

Overall match rating: 6.75 (youth team)

Fordius Dulkaroglu

Fordius Dulkaroglu spent the months after his retirement scouring night clubs for fat women, to fuel his growing insecurity over not being loved. At the Dutch international at the WC against England (which Holland went on to lose 7-0, with a Rooney hat-trick), Fordius vented his frustration by running onto the pitch naked, before flinging himself into Dirk Kuyt's arms and professing his love for him. Fordius was promptly thrown out. Since then, Fordius has been seen around town proudly wearing his Galatasaray t-shirt. I believe he also made a new KD. But it failed. So he disappeared off the face of the earth and hasn't been seen since.

Overall match rating: N/A

Dingedown Verll

Åsane, Verll's former club, finished their season poorly and tied up 7th. And in an equally un-expected fashion, they announced that Verll had made Åsane's All Time Best squad, making the bench. Verll was reported to have been bemused at his inclusion, having only made 12 appearances for the team in his tenure at the Norwegian club. Verll has already managed to learn the Italian language. He made 35 appearances for Siena's youth side this season, with 3 assists and 5 man of the match awards, and can already speak fluent Italian. Verll seems to be a man (boy?) of fair play, a gentleman: he has only committed an astounding 3 fouls for his youth side in the entire season. Verll won 182/208 tackles and 275/279 headers, and covered 191 km in distance. Siena finished their season impressively, finishing in 13th which was well above their pre-season prediction of a relegation battle.

Overall match rating: 7.05 (youth team)

William Wilberforce

Wilberforce got one over division rivals Oxford, by netting a brace in a 2-1 victory. This was probably due to the fact that Ezzington was injured and unavailable for the game! 2 more goals against Barrow brought Wilberforce to the top of the BSP goalscorers table in late March, but come the end of the season Wilberforce had to settle for joint 2nd. Wilberforce made 38 league appearances, scoring 22 goals and providing 6 more assists, with 7 MotM. He also made 6 appearances in the FA Trophy, scoring 4 goals. Despite his formidable goal-threat, Rushden performed woefully in the FA Trophy and crashed out in the 2nd round, but finished 3rd in the BSP, making the playoffs. R&D made it to the finals against York but lost 2-0, thus quelling any hopes of promotion for this eason (Wilberforce earned a rating of 6.5 for the game).

Danny Stirling

Danny Stirling, Danny Stirling. The name that was on every managers lips. "He must be stopped, he could pose a threat". The young winger-going-on-striker retained his hot form and was scoring and assisting left, right and center in January, with every opposition team highlighting him as their main threat. Perhaps unsuprisingly then, Stirling came 2nd in both BSP's January player and young player of the month awards. However it could be said that such glory went to his head, as in the months following awards the winger went through a rough patch and couldn't hit a barn door and consequently his morale dropped. It took him nearly 700 hours to find the back of the net again, against Eastbourne this time. Fortunately, R&D didn't seem to be suffering positionally in the league because of it. Stirling made a whopping 51 club appearances this season (43 league, 8 cup). He scored 10 times in the league and provided 12 assists and he was perhaps unfortunate to not earn more than 3 MotM. He covered more ground than any other player again this season, 293 km to be exact. Stirling also has the "honour" of being the first player to earn a red card (straight red, in fact), and also earnt a further 8 yellows. Rushden performed woefully in the FA Trophy and crashed out in the 2nd round, but finished 3rd in the BSP, making the playoffs. R&D made it to the finals against York but lost 2-0, thus quelling any hopes of promotion for this eason (Stirling earned a rating of 7.2 for the game).

Overall match rating: 7.17

DLDs Pancreas

Barca's youth team made it to the U-19s Cup Semi Finals, but lost 1-0 to Ponferradina, in a match where DLD didn't really shine. He mantained an average rating of 6.40 in the Cup run-in, which is a sharp contrast to his good performances in the Barca youth team. On a more positive note, Pancreas has already managed to gain a complete grasp of the Spanish language, a remarkable feat given his short time in the country. Barca went on to win La Liga in a comfortable fashion, 17 points clear of runners-up Real Madrid. DLD made 2 Cup appearances and 2 league appearances, none of which were memorable. He did feature prominently in the youth side, 30 times to be exact, and scored 3, assisted 5 and won man of the match 8 times. Remarkably, the young defender only commited 16 fouls for the youth side and received 4 yellow cards, and won 176/195 tackles and 194/201 headers.

http://i50.tinypic.com/eaf9xj.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.71 (youth team)

Alexander Orlov

Orlov started off the new year in good spirits, netting a brace against Carshalton in the FA Trophy 2nd round and earning the plaudits praise. Orlov went on to score 2 vs Forest Green and another 2 against Gateshead in the following fixture. He does however seem to be showing concern over Stevenage's overall performance in the league, and it didn't seem to come as a suprise to many when they finished the season 7th, 2 spots below the playoffs. Orlov scored 19 league goals (the leagues 6th most prolific striker), with 3 assists and 4 man of the matches accredited to him. He took 3 penalties in the campaign, scoring all 3 and a shot-on-target percentage just shy of 50%. On average, Orlov scored a goal every 194 minutes. Stevenage made the final of the FA Trophy against Barrow, which Stevenage lost 2-1, despite a late goal from Orlov.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2s9sy1w.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.02

Robert James

There isn't much in the way of progress to report for James. Mainly because he's spent the better part of the last half the season injured with a broken leg, thus unable to play. By the time he had recovered, the season had already finished. He made 16 youth/reserve appearances in total, scoring 1 and assisting 7 times, with 5 MotM, committing 10 fouls in so few appearances. Kilmarnock finished the SPL in 5th position, 42 points behind title-winners Rangers.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2dwb5mr.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.35 (youth team)

Sam Wuude

The latter half of the season provided mixed results for Wuude. He didn't gain any more reserve games (having made 10 previously, 4 as a sub), despite remaining in the reserves squad, but did make 3 cup games and 3 European matches (all as a sub). Tottenham came first in their UEFA Cup group stage with 6 wins from 6 and a +15 G.D, then beat Leverkuson 7-0 on AGG in the first of the knockout stages. They also beat Panathinaikos, Fiorentina and CSKA to reach the Finals against domestic rivals Man City, where they went on to lose 2-0 (Wuude didn't make the squad for this game). Tottenham finished the EPL 4th, in a tight battle for the title. Man Utd won the league by virtue of GD, with City 2nd, Chelsea 2 points behind them in 3rd, and Tottenham 3 points behind in 4th. Wuude is reportedly interested in going out on loan, likely due to his lack of first team action.

http://i49.tinypic.com/2i1cmr8.jpg

Overall match rating: 6.86 (reserve team)

Henry Dean

Henry Dean looked like his career had finally got underway when Kansas swooped in for his signature. However the defender-with-striker-stats failed to gain a single appearance for his new team, and the club, deeming him surplus to requirements, let him go. He's now looking for a new club. Again.

04:06:01 Mar 12th 10 - Mr. And Ezzington:

FM2010 EXPERIMENT

YEAR 3

JUN 2010-JAN 2011

Edward Ezzington

Ezzington signed a new 2 year deal with Oxford in June, which reportedly moved him up the pecking order in the team substantially, with him now considered an integral player. He scored on the first day of the season in a 2-0 win over Woking, but failed to make much impact thereafter until scoring a brace in a 5-1 thrashing of Hitchin in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round. The U's still prefer to play Ezzington as a striker when he does play, despite there arguably being a vast array of attacking talents more suitable for the role. By late November the board decided to sack their manager for a series of poor performances which had left the team labouring in 11th. Ezzington has made 15 league appearances this season, scoring 4 goals and with 1 MotM. He is their 3rd most prolific striker overall and Oxford are languishing in 13th position, 9 points below the play off spots. With a pre-season prediction of 1st, the U's really need to up their game over the 2nd half of the season.

http://i41.tinypic.com/o08qkh.jpg

Overall match rating: 6.80

Omnipotent Onslawt

Onslawt has now managed to become fluent in Italian, but it hasn't seemed to help his chances of first team football, let alone reserve. He has only managed to make a lowly 4 appearances so far this season, with 1 goal and is severely lacking in match fitness. Onslawt is being tutored by Chilean international Carmona, and he still wishes to go out on loan. Reginna are 14th in Serie A, above their pre-season prediction of 17th, despite the team conceding the 2nd most amount of goals in the entire league.

http://i43.tinypic.com/111pdae.jpg

Overall match rating: 6.70 (reserve team)

Dingedown Verll

Verll looked set to spend another season in the youth set up, with his non-inclusion in Siena's first team, but he did manage to earn a spot on the subs bench in Siena's 3rd round Coppa Italia match vs Serie B outfit Rimini. After 32 minutes, Siena centre-back Valiente came off injured and Verll was brought on. He played the remaining 58 minutes of the fixture, but didn't perform too well and Siena eventually lost 1-0. Verll has made only 6 appearances for the reserves so far this season, with 1 assist. He too wishes to go out on loan. Siena are currently placed 9th in Serie A.

http://i41.tinypic.com/8x10e9.jpg

Overall match rating: 6.88 (reserve team)

William Wilberforce

At the end of the season, it was left to a popular vote by R&D supporters to decide their favourite player of the campaign, and they voted emphatically in Wilberforce's favour. On the first day of the season he scored once in a 4-0 thrashing of Barrow, and once again in the second fixture against Wimbledon. Wilberforce netted his first brace against Newport in a farcical game where his opponents lost 2 players to injury and another to a red card and he soon rose to the top of the leading goalscorers chart, leading him to come 2nd in the Young player of the month award for September. Spurred on from the praise, Wilberforce bagged a hat-trick in a 4-0 drubbing of Bishop's Stortford in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round. He's also managed to accumulate 5 yellow cards earning a 1 match suspension. After returning from suspension he scored another hat-trick, this time against Wrexham (6-1). So far this season Wilberforce has played 23 times in the league, with a magnificent return of 17 goals, 3 assists and 3 MotM. He's also played 4 cup games (4 goals, 1 assist, 1 MotM). He leads the league goalscoring charts by 4 goals. R&D lie 1st in the league with a goal difference of +34.

http://i43.tinypic.com/34exlkg.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.39

Danny Stirling

Although playing reasonably assured, Stirling failed to make any assists in his first 4 games, although he did manage to grab 1 goal. And he continued in a pretty unspectacular fashion for the remainder of the first half of the season. R&D were flying high, at the top no less, but Stirling can't be said to have provided much in the way of help. He finished December having made 25 league appearances, 5 goals, 4 assists (the majority of which coming late on) and 1 MotM and he has announced that he is pleased to be playing alongside Wilberforce (who didn't say the same in return).  R&D lie 1st in the league with a goal difference of +34.

http://i42.tinypic.com/aujt5v.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.17

DLD's Pancreas

Pancreas' future begun to look brighter with his inclusion in Barcelona's first team, but he was soon moved down the pecking order, eventually to the reserves side having not made a first team appearance. With his first Barcelona Atlètic game, he earnt MotM. Pancreas was called up to the Swedish U20s World Cup. He earnt the plaudits praise in a memorable 2-0 group stage victory over Spain. Sweden qualified from their group and made it all the way to the Semi Finals where they lost 2-1 to Peru (Pancreas earnt 7.6 rating for the match). After returning from international duty Pancreas made 8 appearances for the B side with 1 assist and 2 MotM. His performances were what we've come to expect from him these days (54/58 tackles, 49/49 headers, 219/274 passes).

http://i44.tinypic.com/1g0tc2.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.80 (reserve team)

Alexander Orlov

Stevenage's pre-season prediction was a modest 6th, but started off the campaign well. A 70th minute penalty on day 1 earnt the Boro a slender win, and he soon scored again in a 3-0 drubbing of Oxford. He then went on to break the league record for fastest goal scored, by scoring within 15 seconds of the game starting, and then bagged a further goal just before half time. Evidently then, his early-season performances were good, however towards the latter part of the year Orlov took his foot off the pedal somewhat. In 25 league appearances he scored 11 goals, with 1 assist and 4 MotM. He is Stevenage's leading goalscorer by 1, and was the leagues leading goalscorer for a short period (he hasn't scored in 224 minutes now). Stevenage currently lie 4th in the BSP, in the play-off spots and are 10 points behind league leaders R&D.

http://i40.tinypic.com/1qki6w.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.05

Robert James

You knew it was coming. After a 5 month lay off, Robert James made 7 non competitive matches before succuming to a thigh strain in training, spending 2 weeks out. James made a few more appearances for the reserves before spraining his ankle, resulting in another 5 weeks on the sidelines, and somehow in this period he convinced Kilmarnock to extend his contract by another 3 years. James has made 4 more appearances for the reserve side so far this season with 3 goals, 3 assists and 1 MotM. Kilmarnock lie in 6th in the SPL, meeting their pre-season expectations.

http://i40.tinypic.com/1okeo2.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.28 (reserve team)

Sam Wuude

In early September rumours circulated that Reading were interested in signing young prospect Wuude, but Tottenham seemed disinterested. CCC side Sheff Wednesday on the other hand were successful in gaining his signature, albeit on a loan basis for the remainder of the season, a move which Aaron Lennon backed. It took Wuude a number of months until he played and even then they only came in Sheff Wed's reserve side, besides 1 as a substitute. Wuude has played 4 times for Sheff Wed's reserve and is probably not enjoying his time out on loan. Sheff Wed are 5th in the Championship, within the play off spots and Wuude's parent club, Tottenham, are down in a disappointing 9th in the EPL but are only 5 points behind 2nd place side Fulham (LOL).

FM2010 EXPERIMENT

YEAR 3

JAN 2012-JUN 2012

Just noticed the dates in the previous couple posts were wrong. We're in 2012 now. Anyway, usual story. Big hitters, small shrimps. Gogogogogo.

Edward Ezzington

With new management has come new favourites. Once considered an important first team player, Ezzington is now thought of as a "back-up" and hasn't managed to play as regularily as he'd like. The U's still think he's of striker pedigree and has played almost exclusively there. As of March 3rd, Ezzington scored 4 goals in his past 5 appearances -- not a bad strike rate, but considering the infrequent nature of his playing time, it puts a dampener on the overall picture. Oxford managed to kick their season into action over the final months and eventually rose to the playoff spots, but lost in the playoff finals 2-0 to Cambridge and are forced to spend another season in the BSP. Ezzington finished the season with 31 league appearances, 6 goals and 1 assist, and with 4 goals from 4 cup games.

http://i42.tinypic.com/24gitt4.jpg

Overall match rating: 6.93

Omnipotent Onslawt

In early February, stories circulated in the papers that Arsenal were keen to buy Reggina's young prospect, Onslawt, and manager Arsene Wenger was reported to have told the Sunday Mirror there was "interest" in the English striker. Onslawt seemed buoyed by the link and it shouldn't come as a suprise given his non-inclusion in Reggina's first team and sporadic reserve appearances, but nothing came of the rumours. He ended the season with 10 reserve appearances, 3 goals, 1 assist and 1 MotM, with no first team appearances. Reggina finished the season in 18th place, 8 points from safety and as a result will play the next season in Serie B.

http://i44.tinypic.com/x6mopl.jpg

Overall match rating: 6.81 (reserve team)

Dingedown Verll

By March Verll had not managed to accumulate any more appearances for Siena, either in the reserves or first team and seemed to be growing more and more frustrated at his lack of first team action that other players were enjoying. At the end of the season, Siena sacked their manager after a poor performance in the league. They finished 16th and as a result managed to survive the relegation battle in Serie A, 7 points clear from the drop zone. Verll made no more appearances for the reserves or first team, besides those he had already gained in the first half of the season, marking a disappointing end to the campaign on a personal level.

http://i41.tinypic.com/1znmzo9.jpg

Overall match rating:  6.88

William Wilberforce

Wilberforce's good form in December was recognised, when at the turn of the year he was awarded 3rd place in the YPotM and PotM awards and he continued such form by consistently scoring over the following months. Scoring 6 goals in February, Wilberforce then earnt the YPotM for that month, too and extended his grip on the goalscorers charts further. R&D fans were left with tears in their eyes however when in early March Wilberforce tore his calf muscle against Crawley, ruling him out for the rest of the season and for 4 or so months. At the time of the injury, R&D lie in first, 6 points clear of the second placed team. The injury seemed to have badly effected the team as in the following game against Oxford, R&D lost 1-3 at home, but then bounced back with a 5-0 trouncing of relegation threatened side Dover. Wilberforce made the Player of the Season shortlist. Wilberforce ended the season as the 2nd most prolific striker in the league with 26 goals, 1 behind the winner who played 12 more games, a small consolation for Wilberforce. Despite Wilberforce's injury, R&D won the BSP with 103 points, 3 points clear of runners up Cambridge and as a result have been promoted for the following season.

http://i43.tinypic.com/2iw23ag.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.29

Danny Stirling

Stirling earnt his team a hard-fought win in the FA Trophy 2nd round reply against

Kettering. Scoring after 16 minutes, Kettering came back with 2 late goals (86, 89) to pull the tie level, until Stirling finished the game off with another goal again at 115 minutes (ET). Stirling earnt MotM in the following game (4-3) win against Grays, where he scored a goal. I expect some harsh words were said over his performances in the first half of the season, as come February he was regularily providing goalscoring opportunities for his strikers to smash in. With his upturn in performances recognised, Stirling has regularily been earning MotM now. With the injury of leading-goalscorer Wilberforce, there is increased pressure for Stirling to maintain his overall performance. Stirling finished the season with 45 first team appearances, 10 goals and 11 assists, with 4 MotM. Despite the turbulation at the end of the season R&D won the BSP with 103 points, 3 points clear of runners up Cambridge and as a result have been promoted for the following season.

Overall match rating: 7.15

DLD's Pancreas

Pancreas had in many ways an unremarkable finish to the season. He has all the potential in the world, but has little opporunity to put it to practice. Confined to the reserves he played consistently well, but the competition was by and large poor. He played 21 times for the reserves this season and assisted in 7 goals and earnt 7 MotM. Pancreas boasted the usual stats we would come to expect from him, with nigh on perfection: 118/129 tackles, 119/121 headers. If he applies himself to training a little more, he could very well find himself in the first team in a season or two's time. Barcelona finished the season 2nd, 5 points behind bitter rivals Real Madrid.

http://i40.tinypic.com/1fjoyq.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.83 (reserve team)

Alexander Orlov

Stevenage smashed Dover 6-0 in the first game of 2012, with Orlov scoring once and 3 more times in the following 2 games. But a knee injury in late January ruled Orlov out for 3 weeks. As a result of his earlier prolific scoring, Orlov managed to secure 2nd in the YPotM and PotM awards for January. By March, despite Orvov's good performances, the club had managed to slip down to 10th, an exemplification of the tight nature of the league given only 3 points seperated them and 4th place. Orlov earnt a 3 match ban in March for accumulating 10 yellow cards (the first player to ever do so). After returning from the ban, he somehow managed to earn 2nd in the YPotM award, despite missing a number of games. Orlov played 47 first team games this season, scoring 25 times with 2 assists and 6 MotM. Stevenage's form picked up sufficiently enough for them to creep into the playoff spots, but were unable to win promotion through the knockout rounds and ended the season 5th.

http://i41.tinypic.com/6h42uq.jpg

Overall match rating: 7.05

Robert James

James proved more resilient after the turn of the year, with no notable injuries recorded. As a result he was able to play much more football (albeit for the reserves) and was performing reasonably well, earning MotM after slotting home a penalty in a 2-0 victory over Inverness. I say "more resilient", that was until he dislocated his shoulder and spent 8 weeks out on the sidelines. James made 19 reserve appearances for Kilmarnock with 5 goals and 4 assists to his name, and the 1 MotM. In addition to the reserve appearances, James broke into the first team briefly, playing 4 times in which he set up 2 goals. The pass master completed over 620 of 800 attempted passes and despite playing a deeper defensive role, has managed to hit 8 of 12 attempted shots on target. His team had a terrible season however and finished in 9th in the SPL, way below what they've achieved in previous seasons.

Overall match rating: 7.32 (reserve team)

Sam Wuude

Wuude's loan deal to Sheff Wednesday finished at the end of January and he vented strongly of his frustrations during the time he spent there. He only made 1 first team appearance in total for Weds, coming on as a substitute and he didn't play frequently for their reserves either (Sheff Wed soon sacked their manager after). Fortunately for Wuude, his return to Spurs coincided with a series of cup ties, which he was selected for. He replaced Woodgate in a FA Cup 4th round replay tie against Hull at half time, which Spurs lost 1-0 and was an un-used sub in both Spur's 0-3/4-1 Champs League knockout games to Barcelona, which they lost on agg. After this Wuude did not play for the reserves at all and played once in a largely forgettable match from his perspective, for Spurs in the league. Tottenham finished the season 4th (by G.D, the 3rd and 5th placed teams both accumulated the same amount of points).

Henry Dean. Henry Dean. The black sheep of FM. Everybody seems to look over him. Past him. Through him. Women will cross the streets to avoid him, children are told not to go near him. Scouts have never heard of him. That was until Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi, the most successful club in Finnish history, picked the defender-with-striker-stats up. HJK, who play in Finland's top division, is a huge opportunity for Dean and he hopes that he has now made a step in the right direction regarding his career. He has made 5 reserve appearances and 4 first team appearances for the club, with 1 MotM. The Finnish league is ongoing.

FM2010 EXPERIMENT

YEAR 4

JUL 2012-JAN 2013

Edward Ezzington

An emphatic 5-1 thrashing of Fleetwood on the first day of the season, with a goal from Ezzington set Oxford off in good stead. But such early omens were deceiving. By October Ezzington had racked up 13 league appearances, as a striker, and only found the net twice with 3 more assists. In December with Ezzington's contract set to expire in 6 months, he turned down a new contract offer, putting his future with the club into doubt. Ezzington finishes the first half of the season with 18 league appearances, 6 goals and 5 assists. Of 35 attempted shots, only 14 have been on target. Oxford currently lie comfortably in 4th, in the playoff positions and 9 points behind the league leaders.

Omnipotent Onslawt

With Reggina's recent relegation to Serie B, most pundits thought and expected that the club would bounce back with instant promotion. Besides this, there was hope, particularily amongst the younger players in the squad, that there would now be opportunities for them to prove themselves whilst the higher-earners would be shown the door in order to keep financial parity. One such player was Onslawt. And Onslawt was to be sorely disappointed. He made only 3 appearances for the club so far this season and all of which came for the reserves, scoring 0 goals. Furthermore, by December Reggina found themselves languishing in mid table obscurity and duely sacked their manager. They were only 3 points below the playoff spots, but that will come as no encouragement to Onslawt who badly needs play-time. Reggina currently lie in 8th position and are only out of the playoff spots by virtue of goal difference.

DLD's Pancreas

The Barcelona management saw it prudent to keep Pancreas in the reserve squad at the start of the season to allow him to grow a little more. But after 4 games, with 2 MotM and a rating nigh on 8.00, Guardiola brought Pancreas back into the first team fold. Since then he has featured intermittently for the first team, with 4 league, 1 cup and 2 continental appearances to show. He is also being tutored by footballing legend Lionel Messi (why?!). Barcelona have qualified from the Champions League group stages in first position and are in the Copa del Rey 5th round, but are also suprisingly only lying in 4th in La Liga, 4 points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Dirgedown Verll

The non-thrilling, quite comfortable roller-coaster ride, Dirgedown Verll saga continues. Verll seems ever confined to Siena's reserve squad after his transfer to the Italian club, but he does seem optimistic about his future there. Verll has only made 6 appearances for the club so far this season, all for the reserves, and 4 of which came as substitutes. A loan move to a less competitive league would probably do him a world of good. Siena are performing admirably well in the league, sitting at 9th, well above their pre-season prediction of 19th and are only 5 points behind league leaders Juventus. Interestingly, Siena have also scored the 2nd most amount of goals in Serie A, 30.

Willaim Wilberforce

Suprise, suprise. End of season awards and the Rushden fans vote overwhelmingly once again in Wilberforce's favour. For 2 seasons in a row now he's been named their Player of the Year and deservingly so. And no sooner than had he been given the award, did rumours escelate of a possible transfer away from Nene park emerge. A number of clubs, including the likes or Arsenal, Middlesbrough and a plethora of Championship sides made their interest known. Wilberforce however quelled such rumours by promptly signing a new 2 year deal with R&D. Wilberforce netted his first hat-trick of the season in R&D's 2nd competitive game, a 3-1 victory over Championship side Charlton in the League Cup first round. By September Wilberforce had accumulated 4 goals from 4 League games, and 3 goals from 2 Cup games, and so EPL side Aston Villa made a £575k + clauses offer for the highly sought after striker. The deal was accepted and Wilberforce confirmed it, thus ending the Wilberforce-Stirling relationship. Wilberforce made 147 league appearances for R&D in his tenure, with 78 goals. Villa sacked their manager in December on the back of a 5-0 defeat to Genoa in the Champions League group stages (Villa came 3rd). Wilberforce has played 8 times for Villa's reserves, having not made a single first team appearance and he has 5 goals. Villa have had a terrible season so far and currently lie in 16th, well below their pre-season prediction of 7th and are only 2 points clear of the drop zone.

Danny Stirling

Stirling seemed nonchalant towards his teams plight after Wilberforce's transfer away from R&D to Aston Villa (coincidently, Villa is named under Stirling's favoured club panel. What's the bets on a reunion?). Despite the team performing remarkably well in their new league, Stirling had yet again slipped into his familiar habit of underperforming. No goals or assists in his first 5 league games, and only 1 assist from 3 Cup games was by all accounts a poor return. His form picked up in the following months a little, but he was by no accounts a world-beater. Stirling ended December with 28 appearances (as usual, most selected player), 2 goals and 5 assists. I expect he's built up a reputation for himself as a bit of a flamboyant player, as in those 28 appearances hes only attempted a staggering 4 tackles, instead choosing to dribble on average 3 times per game. R&D currently lie 9th in League 2, 2 points below the playoff spots and could very well earn themselves back to back promotions if they keep applying themselves.

Alexander Orlov

Orlov had a frustrating start to the season with only 1 goal from his first 6 games. Indeed, the entire team seemed to be struggling for goals and by early September they found themselves way down in 16th. Things picked up for him a little however with a late hat-trick against Hampton which pushed Stevenage into the top half of the table. He won the PotM and YPotM awards for September. Orlov earnt his second hat-trick against Fleetwood in a 6-0 mauling in December. With this, Orlov became Stevenage's all time top goalscorer and he soon agreed to an additional 2 year deal with the club. By the back end of December, Orlov has played 24 league games with 13 goals, 3 assists and 5 MotM. In addition to this he's played 5 cup games with 3 goals, 2 assists and 2 more MotM. Stevenage crashed out of the FA Cup 2nd round, but made it through the FA Trophy 1st round and are currently 8th in the BSP, a disappointing 7 points off the playoffs and well below their pre-season prediction of 3rd.

Robert James

A number of clubs, including Blackpool, Charlton and Millwall were interested in James' services in the transfer window, but it was a loan offer that caught his attention. Hoping to gain some first team action, James accepted a loan offer from Scottish First divison side Queen of the South (1 divison below Kilmarnock) on a 6 month basis in July. For much of the deal James was used sparingly, if not at all. He was limited to 4 reserve games and a cup match by September, but with a number of injuries to QotS' key personnel brought James some first team action in October. James made no more reserve games for QotS, but did earn 8 first team appearances with 2 goals and 1 MotM. QotS currently lie in 3rd, 4 points below league leaders Dundee, while James' parent club Kilmarnock are down in 9th in the SPL, 25 points behind leaders Celtic.

Sam Wuude

Wuude attracted a lot of continental interest over the summer period. Besides English EPL outfits West Brom, Belgian side Standard Liege and a number of French teams looked set to make a move, but the first to do so was Sevilla of La Liga. A £1.5m upfront loan deal, with the possibility of buying the player at a later date was rejected by Tottenham who quibbled over an extra £200k, which I expect infuriated the player. Despite the set back, Wuude has featured a little more than usual this season. Wuude's appearances have come in a variety of competitions: 6 from the reserves, 7 in the league (all as a substitute), 2 cup games and 2 continental games. Spurs qualified from their Champions League group stages in 2nd position, behind German side Bayern Munich, they are in the FA Cup 3rd round and currently lie in 3rd in the EPL, 5 points behind Chelsea.

Henry Dean

While everybody else was taking their summer holidays, the Finnish season had just begun. By the time the other leagues had resumed, Dean had racked up 12 first team appearances for HJK, all in the central defender position. It could be said he hasn't had a thoroughly enjoyable time for HJK yet, with his early performances panned by the media as a atrocious and he has committed an awful lot of fouls, but for some strange reason Eredivisie (Dutch, top divison) side SC Heerenveen decided to buy him for £220k + clauses. Dean was immediately moved into the reserve squad and made 1 (terrible) appearance for the team before injuring himself, forcing him to the sidelines for 5 weeks. Dean played 2 more times for the reserves before straining his back, forcing him out for a further 4 weeks. With 1 win from 6 games in December, Heerenveen sacked their manager. As of December, Dean has made 5 reserve appearances for his side and still managed to continue his habit of committing fouls. Heerenveen currently lie 7th in the league, 12 points behind leaders Ajax.

18:33:06 Mar 31st 10 - Mr. And Ezzington:

FM2010 EXPERIMENT

YEAR 4

JAN 2013-JUN 2013

Edward Ezzington

January 29th, 2013. A day that will live on in infamy. The day the vile, vicious Eastbourne Borough broke poor Ezzington's ankle, rendering him useless to Oxford's campaign for 3 months. Players cried, girlfriends died. But the team rallied around their befallen hero and made a pledge: to fight on, even without their inspirational winger-going-on-striker. The U's rallying call was "For Ezzington!", and with that, they fought on to earn promotion. Ezzington returned to active duty on April 29th and with Oxford 1-0 up, in the 85th minute Clark was felled in the penalty box. The ball was handed to Ezzington. "Do it", his team mates urged. Wiping back the tears, Ezzington placed the ball down on the spot, hands on hips. He stepped back, looked at his manager for comfort, who nodded back as if to say "It'll be ok, lad". The whistle blew, Ezzington ran up and lashed the ball into the back of the net. 2 fucking nil. Ezzington played 24 league games for Oxford this season, with a return of 8 goals and 5 assists. Oxford finished the season in 4th place, qualifying for the Playoffs. In the Semi Finals Oxford beat Grays with an aggregrate score of 8-2, and Oxford beat Barrow with a 90th minute goal from Constable at Wembley to promote them to the next division (3-2).

Omnipotent Onslawt

Onslawt finished the season, much as he started. His position was in no way strengthed by spending another year at the club and he seemed wholly frustrated with his non-inclusion in first team affairs. He didn't make any more reserve appearances for the team after January, and  Onslawt made only 1 first team appearance in the remaining months of the season, coming on as a substitute against relegation threatened Cesena. With Reggina 4-0 up, Onslawt came on with 16 minutes to go and scored in the 85th minute to complete the thrashing. Reggina on the final day of the season were 2nd, which would of secured instant promotion. But after losing 2-0 to AlbinoLeffe, they slipped to 3rd and had to make do with promotion play offs. Despite taking the hard route, Reggina coasted through the playoffs and won promotion back to Serie A with victory over Modena in the final.

DLD's Pancreas

The first player to be awarded a full call-up to their respective national team went to Pancreas on Feb 13th, 2013. In anticipation of the World Cup qualifiers, the Swedish FA organised a friendly game against England, where Pancreas played for 79 minutes in the heart of the Swedish defence and maintained an impressive 7.4 rating. Sweden lost the game 2-1. Pancreas was called up to the first of the WC Qualifiers against Slovenia, where he started again in defense, but was substituted at half time (6.3). Sweden went on to win 3-1. In addition to his international debut, Pancreas begun playing more for Barcelona's first team, albeit less successfully. With 7 league appearances by the time of his cap, his avg rating was a lowly 6.38. Pancreas made his 3rd Champions League appearance of the season in the 1st Knockout Stages against Leverkusen, replacing Xavi with 13 minutes to go. Barca made it all the way to the Champions League final against Juventus, a game which was marred by ill-discipline. Each side had a penalty, Barca had 5 yellow cards, Pique sent off and Messi injured before Pancreas was called into action in the 83rd minute. Barca lost the game 3-1. In May, Pancreas won the Spanish Young player of the Year and he acreditted his success to his manager Guardiola's influence. In an un-related incident, Pancreas has also fallen out with Luka Modric. Pancreas made 19 league appearances this season (most of which came late on), 3 Cup, 4 International and 6 European games. Barcelona finished the season a disappointingly 3rd, 8 points behind winners Real.

Dingedown Verll

Verll failed to make a single appearance for the first team this season, and didn't make any more reserve appearances after January. The only piece of good news to come his way was that Italian side Benevento are reportedly interested in signing him on loan. But after these rumours evaporated, Verll was thought to be "considering his options", in part due to his unhappiness with the lack of harmony at the club. Siena finished the season 11th, well above their pre-season prediction of 19th which would of left them relegated.

Overall rating: 7.20 (reserve team)

William Wilberforce

Upon the realisation that Wilberforce would not be featuring for the first team for his new club, in early January he agreed to join Championship side Crystal Palace on loan for the remainder of the season and featured 2 days later in a FA Cup 4th round tie against Bristol City, which they lost 4-0. It took 5 games and a change in management before Wilberforce found the back of the net, before scoring a double for Palace against Northampton 2 weeks later. Wilberforce then went a couple months without scoring, before netting a triumphant hat-trick against Blackpool, nearly doubling his overally tally for the club. He scored 2 goals, 2 games later and another goal in the following game to come 2nd in the YPotM award for April. Wilberforce played 18 times in total for Palace, scoring 10 goals. Aston Villa finished the season in a disappointing 10th and Crystal Palace 9th.

Danny Stirling

Whether or not Stirling winning the YPotM award for February is an indication of an evaporation of talent in the BSP, remains unknown, but it did come as a surprise. From Dec to March, he hadn't scored any goals, hadn't gained any MotM and had only made 2 assists. 2 assists is hardly likely to earn a player an outstanding achievement award, and his average rating wasn't phenonemal either (6.96). In any case, deserved or not, Stirling's accolade coincided with R&D's edging towards and eventually into League 1s play-off spots. Now they simply had to maintain it. Stirling played 47 league games, with 4 goals and 11 assists. Travelling 354km, Stirling once again was the hardest working player of the season. R&D had a great season for a promoted side, they finished 7th in the league and made it into the playoffs, but a crushing 4-0 defeat at home in the Semi's ruled out any possibility of back-to-back promotions.

Overall rating: 6.99

Alexander Orlov

Orlov's exploits over the previous month were recognised in January when he came 3rd in the PotM and YPotM awards. And with a return of 4 goals in 5 games, Orlov came 2nd in the consequtive YPotM award which brought him back within contention of the leagues leading scorers, 2 behind Oxford's Constable. But over the latter half of the season he seemed to freeze in front of goal, and went over 9 hours before the season ended. This in turn would hamper his own teams chances of promotion. Orlov finished the season with 37 games, 17 goals (from 92 attempts), 3 assists and a staggering 7 MotM -- not a bad return, but it could have been so much better. Stevenage finished the season way down in 11th, a soul destroying 8 places below their pre-season prediction of 3rd.

http://i40.tinypic.com/wm0bgx.jpg

Overall rating: 7.09

Robert James

Upon returning from QotS on loan, James was brought into Kilmarnock's first team for a 4th round Scottish cup tie against Berwick, in which he scored once and set up another goal (4-0). The opposing manager praised James' ability after the game. Despite his Cup-cameo however, James' was not able to secure a first team place at Kilmarnock. James made 8 appearances for Queen of the South, scoring twice with 1 MotM. QotS finished the season 3rd, while James' parent club Kilmarnock finished 11th, precariously close to the relegation zone.

Overall rating: 7.28

Sam Wuude

Despite featuring more "regularily" for Spurs, Wuude still yearned for more first team action and so decided in the January window to join Colchester (10th, Championship) on loan for 3 months. Wuude made 8 appearances in his 3 month spell for the U's with a goal to his name, in a period which the club found itself slipping further and further down the table. After returning to Tottenham Wuude failed to make any first team appearances. In all, Wuude made 15 first team appearances (7 Spurs, 8 Colchester) this season, with 2 Continental and 3 Cup games too. Spurs were knocked out of the Champions League 1st Knockout rounds, with a 3-3 aggregrate loss to Valencia. They finished the season 4th, 9 points behind winners Chelsea. Colchester finished the Championship 15th.

Overall rating: 6.69

Henry Dean

With new management brought new opportunities for Dean, but those that were offered, he failed to take a grasp of and played consistently poor in them. Dean made 4 substitute appearances for Heerenveen (6.45) and 1 Cup game (5.80), but the bulk of his appearances came for the reserves, with 14. His club was knocked out of the UEFA Cup 1st Knockout stages with a 3-2 defeat to Danish side Brøndby. Heerenveen are currently 11th in Eredivisie and the league is currently ongoing
