most boring era ever |
Where are you guys? I am in Maine.
Considering the amount of stalkers on VU( I know your out there) I'll just say I'm in New England.
I saw you guys talking about Berserk...awesome series. Trying to find and read all the manga now.

Report
12/3/2007 12:51:05 AMThose AFL players have got chicken-stick legs and arms, Jet. Still, props for the lack of padding, but it changez nothing:
Rugby > Aussie Rules Football > American Football
In terms of enjoyment, excitement, stamina, physicality, manliness, etc.
******************************************** Aussie rules is about running. Some players may run up to 12km a game, hence why many aren't carrying around 20 kilograms of muscle. Still, AFL players have some of the heighest power to weight ratios that you will see in world sport.
I've played both rugby and aussie rules so I would be in a much better position to make comparisons than you I think Swifty.
Jet, are you the one with the ball? :)
Why are you posting pics of half naked men? trying to say something?
Epyon: no I'm much more toned than that. Trogdor: If you read the thread you would know why. And yes, I am trying to say something.
AFL is great, I mean its far faster paced then most other sports. Soccer is for poofs and American Footballers cant take a hit. Rugby is enjoyable although I find is slow at points.
Jet's talking about positions and showing half-naked men. What do you THINK he's trying to say? ;-)
well that goes to show how boring it is doesnt it ;)
Yeah, let's see someone stand in front of a charging 300 lbs guy without pads and see how long they'll hold their ground.
Rugby dudes in general aren't anywhere near as huge as American footballers. Add 70 pounds to every guy in a rugby game and they'd need pads.
Well not really, because most of the players would still be the same weight.
But, if you want to dress up as a tank and run into other guys, touch their *beep*s and wear skin tight clothes then go ahead and play your American football, (needs the 'American' tag in front because you are basically the only country that considers it as a decent sport). I love this discussion.
Hey did you know that we have baseball over here in the UK too? We call it rounders and it's basically only played by 13 year old girls at school.
The only reason you Americans say that football is for poofs is because it requires skill, instead of aimlessly running into other guys all game and you aren't required to touch others guys *beep*s ;)
I'm not American, but I do understand the physics of 600 pounds of man colliding at breakneck speed. And no soccer is for poofs cuz of the shorts =p
ps I don't care about any of this, it's just true that this era is dull

See this is why we need a block button so that we can ignore the stupid posts.

Jet: Granted you know more of AFL given its limited coverage here, but you didn't really refute anything.
Soccer: The hits you showed as an excample of American Football was really rather underwhelming for me. Maybe being immersed in your culture, I'd feel the same, but really rugby to me (and most people it seems, outside of America) is a much superior sport -- even for physicality (and it seems that from the Americans who have posted in this thread so far: physicality is what makes a sport good?). I don't think you guys get much sports coverage of rugby (some friends said none of the sports channels, except pay for view, showed the recent rugby world cup), but should you see the intensity and brutal nature of teams like the wallabies, or the all blacks (or even Chabal =P)..and you'd be bowled over. The same size and impact of american football players, who gruel it out for a solid 80 minutes, with no constant stop-and-starts and no constant changing of the players on the field. And more importantly: without any padding, which results in far worse injuries. Basically, rugby is American football with all the fat and the silly frills trimmed off (like cheerleaders, for heavens sake). Hence the original, rugby, is much better than its foreign spin-off, American football to most people. :)
Just a little compilation of tackles:

And some nice individual hits:

And to top it off, a nice try from Habana. :)

Just going by figures here, the 3 most popular sporting events in the world by viewing figures are the football world cup, the olympics and the rugby world cup.
American Football is better. Just stop making excuses about trying to see people in short shorts play with each other and watching people with foot fetishes kick balls around.
thank you moe. BUT, i, in fact, am a rugby fan. i was simply expressing the fact that american football definitely is a tough sport. i feel the biggest difference is that in american football the big hits are usually unsuspecting. watching most of my clips, along with an actual game, one can see "blindsiding" is very common, especially among quarterbacks and receivers. you never know where that safety is hiding just to nail u once the ball is thrown :)
i agree rugby is a very tough sport, coming from my personal experience playing it. (yes, i have indeed played rugby throughout my high scool career). i am simply enlightening both sides ;)
oh, and for the soccer fans out there, i am mostly with you guys. soccer is my strongest sport, in which i play for a national contending club team here in america. oh, and we will be the team to look for in the next world cup. mark my words ;)
wowowo.. none of them compare to soccer..
See guys? Only Swifty would complain at having to watch cheerleaders. How many guys want the job of lifting those girls up (among other things)?
patton wins the debate. hands down. well done....................
*walks off dreaming of cheerleaders*
The simple fact of the matter is that only the *beep*s, like Trogor, no offence mate ;), who put up crappy little comments of, "American football is better", without even providing any form of evidence as to why, are defending the fact that football (global) and Rugby are better. This is why you lose.
P.S. It wasn't just Trogor, there are many more, just too tired to plough through all of them ^.^
Well, I'm willing to give you all Rugby as a good sport. While the players in football are heavier, they do wear pads, whereas Rugby players are of similar weight, yet aren't wearing pads when they hit each other. So I would think the pain factor is the same. ;-)
However, soccer? What's so impressive about soccer? Not as much in the way of physical contact, you run up and down a field kicking (or heading) a ball and that's about it. It's like the outdoors version of basketball, with more players and you can only use your feet (and head) instead of your hands (unless you're a goalie). To be honest, I find neither sports appealing.
Now football, on the other hand, has a good mix of physical brutality and strategy, all in one nice package. Yes, the play is interrupted (it's not continuous like b-ball and soccer) by each down for a board meeting (aka 'huddle') however I think it's more exciting and a better game. I'd talk about it more, but I'm at work. Oh yeah, <3 cheerleaders until they open their mouths and start speaking. *cough* Air heads *cough*
Well....someone can't prove that any sport is better... so we NEED to just be insistent jerks. While I'm at it I'll insist that apples are better than oranges since I can't find any proof. (yet....just you wait)
No oranges are better theyare jucier and amke a MUCH better juice! =P
*to himself* Oh no he didn't....
Listen here mister! Apples are far superior and I actually found some real proof so Squiddy can't say a word. Check out this totally scientific study:
Apples Oranges
Grown in orchards Yes Yes Flowering trees Yes Yes Considered a fruit Yes Yes May be eaten Yes Yes May be made into juice Yes Yes Subject to damage by disease Yes Yes Subject to damage by insects Yes Yes Involvement of Johnny Appleseed(*) Yes No
(*) P<0.01.
Subjective findings and objective data are presented in table 2. A
significant difference between apples and oranges was identified only
in the categories of colour and seeds.
Table 2 Subjective and objective comparison of apples and oranges
Apples Oranges P value
Colour Red Orange 0.03 Sweetness 2+ 2+ NS Shape Sphere Sphere NS Mean (SD) circumference (cm) 25.6 (2.3) 24.4 (2.6) NS Mean (SD) diameter (cm) 7.9 (0.6) 7.6 (0.7) NS Weight (gm) 340 (87) 357 (760) NS Seeds Yes No 0.03
As you can see, the clear conclusion is that apples are on average larger than oranges and have overwhelming superiority by virtue of involvement with Johny Appleseed. Although the differences were not exceeding the standard error rate of "alpha", I'm working on a study with a larger sample to prove once and for all apples are better. Check Mr. Killstone, your king is in threat. *turns up nose arrogantly*
Trogor, all you've only proven your utter stupidity and ignorance with that nonsense, not that Americans are any tougher than the British.
moe, as u very well should know, im thinking thats a joke ;)
humorous as well imo :)
Jokes are supposed to be funny. Forgive me for not laughing.
of course not............... i think its intended more towards americans.......... :)
Doggy, your data absolutly sucks. Do you know what fruit is suposed to do? nourish the seeds and or get the seeds transport to another.locationer via the digestive system of an animal. What on earth would orange trees do with oranges without seeds? In short: Oranges have seeds, only geneticaly modified oranges don't (I prefer these)
Yes... I noticed this "study" had some problems....mostly because it was a joke. Check the "conclusion" though, pricelss:
"This article, certain to become the classic in the field, clearly
demonstrates that apples and oranges are not only comparable; indeed
they are quite similar. The admonition "Let's not compare apples with
oranges" should be replaced immediately with a more appropriate
expression such as "Let's not compare walnuts with elephants" or "Let's
not compare tumour necrosis factor with linguini.""
also doggy a lot of the apple isnt eaten. the core is elft out while al lbut the very thin skin of an oragen is eaten. i do beleive that the phrtase an apple a day keeps teh doctor away should be preplaced with an orange a day keeps teh doctor away as oranges are far superior
Nice work Trogor on proving that you are an *beep*, in fact, even I couldn't have done a better job!
Doggy, the argument isn't what is better and therefore doesn't come under the whole, "personal opinion" debate.
"In terms of enjoyment, excitement, stamina, physicality, manliness, etc."
Was the first statement which begun this whole discussion and apart from enjoyment, opinion does not come in to it moreover the whole discussion is about which sport takes the most to play.
You can take try and take the piss but it won't work ;)
Nice effort though :)
Uhm so yeah, Rugby is by far tougher than American football.
This topic has gone through some weird improvements...
american football, footy, rugby, apples and oranges?
thats not even half lol
well as a person who came from a country that has no football nor rugby sports, i can only point out things that i notice while watching these sports on television.
1. Rugby is a contact sport unlike chess. Basketball is a contact sport also, believe it or not. The thing with rugby is NOT everyone on the field get*beep* at the same time. Only the one with the ball. Same as basketball. With time winding down and you got the ball and your name is shaq, expect a hit.
2. American Football is more of a collision sport. In the sense that wherever you are in the field only one person doesnt always get hit and that is the quarterback. And sometimes also he get*beep*, very hard.
3. American Football Tackle is different from Rugby Tackle.
4. American football dont have 40 year olds. They will die.
5. If those guys in the pictures above get hit by a raging defensive line, they would most probably sit out the entire season.
"In terms of enjoyment, excitement, stamina, physicality, manliness, etc."
obviously those are terms that each individual discerns based on opinion. this being said it is foolish to try to claim that one sport is better than the other when each fan associates his/her preferred sport with those virtues. Maybe I like American Football's strategy behind every play call coupled with fast paced and hard hitting style. Maybe you like Rugby's skin and bone, tooth and nail fight for the sheeps' bladder... er whatever it is made of. I personally enjoy the after game ritual of cracking a keg. needs to be implemented in all sports ;) And who can deny that soccer is the game of the world. Every one and their mother places soccer so you have to respect it for that at least. Many of my good friends were on the State Champion team and I am well aware that the conditioning for that sport alone is enough to make you go home and cry to mama. So... all are respectable sports that require athleticism. But I would also like to add that the Cowboys are 11-1 and it is going to be friggin sweet to watch them knock off the Yankees of the NFL (the Patriots for you non-NFL fans) in the Superbowl. You my boy Romo. And how can I forget Marion the Barbarian. Sexy.
Packers will not reach superbowl. Favre is almost useless now.
pats nearly lost to ravens................ losers!
oh i misread it. thought you mean packers.
yea but the Pats didnt lose a game they very well could have. Same last week against the Eagles. Patriots are unquestionably the best offense of all time and are in the top three of the best teams of all time. Ravens and Eagles were like every other bird of prey and were just out for blood ;) Hats off to the Pats if they go undefeated and win the superbowl.. but I am a die hard cowboy fan and I have faith in my team goin all the way baby! But should Favre play in the Superbowl with the Pack than he can rest assured that I am all about a cheese-head victory :)
Because of the fact that this thread is totally off topic and is
changing what it's about every other post I think I can change the
topic to why women are evil.
