OK I am starting an actually Academy for ROLEPLAYING ONLY. This is no joke and I do not want BS in here. Some people, in my opinion, may not roleplay because they may not be good at certain aspects of it. If they knew what they were doing they may come in here more and join some things. I am going to go through the different areas of roleplaying that are vital to being successful and also enjoying it. I went to another roleplay site and found these categories, but I will explain them myself instead of copying them straight from there. I do not like copying things, but these are trying times. 1)Character Development - Characters do not always stay the same throughout a roleplay. They have mental and physical improvements due to the things they do. It is also helpful to describe the physical characteristics of your characters. Height, build, hair color, eye color, armor, weapons, or sc*beep*ven. These things make your character appear in the readers mind and can make them much more interesting than a generic warrior who seems to be faceless due to the lack of work put into them. 2) Combat - Combat is not a difficult part of roleplaying, but it can be a focal point for many. If you use good describing words, you can turn a boring duel or fight, into a very descriptive and visual fight to the death. Description really helps and one liners are highly frowned upon. 3) Game Mastery - This mainly means that you thoroughly think up a subject for an interesting roleplay, make an interesting and logical opening that can draw players in. Starting roleplays is not just meant for a few people. Anyone can start one, but people JOIN when it is easy to follow and does not require pages of complex stats that would drive anyone crazy. 4) Grammar - A good roleplay can easily be ruined because of bad grammar. Punctuation, spelling, paragraphing, and word use all affect the roleplay. Working on these parts can dramatically increase the quality and possible attention of others.
When I first started playing this game, I made myself being a character from another realm/dimension...send here by his clan-elders to find a new world to conquer...since his own realm was about to be destroyed...
*A young, dark haired man walked from a room in the Academy and walked towards Lord Scientist. He was wearing leather archer armor, had glimmering steel chainmail armor overtop of it, and a yew longbow strapped to his back. On his chest there was an emblem for the city of Tasidian, the shining beacon of the sea. He was tall and slim, but had powerful arms to wield his bow with speed and accuracy. His piercing eyes showed intelligence and strength behind them and he * "Lord Scientist, you are welcome here in my academy always. You gave me the idea for this Academy, and I did as best as I could to create a place where training the common people in the art of "Roleplaying" was it's duty. Your wisdom and guidance surpasses my own and it would be welcome as often as you see something out of place or needing added." *He turns to the small crowd of people gathering at the Academy entrance.* "Welcome to the Academy for Roleplayers, here in the great city of Tasidian. I am Sir Charley III Statler, son of Sir Ernie The Orange, son of Sir Charley II, who was the son of Mr. Charley. I am the founder of this building, that is meant for the wellbeing of all those who live in the lands of the great lord Zeta." "This Academy is for everyone to use, not just for the gifted. It is a training instrument that shall bring back the golden days and it shall be a font of knowledge. Please, if you come in these doors, leave any knowledge you possess that may aid the less experienced. You may carve your knowledge upon the Wall of Knowledge, which is on the far wall. *Points to a far wall* Once again I say. Welcome to the Academy!" "If any wish to ask any questions of me at all, please send a messege and I shall respond with great haste and careful thought. If I am unable to answer it, I shall ask for the help of others in order to answer the question. Teachers are welcome to reside in this place, but they also carry the responsibility towards others. There will be no attack on our ways here as we are all professionals when we enter these doors. If there is a disturbance....it WILL be taken care of, one way or another." *Pats his bow* *Exits the Academy*
*Charley walks into the Academy again* "I am now announcing that I shall be teaching Character Development and I shall also be adding a new section onto it. I shall be helping new students create their "roleplaying character." There are a number of sections that help create the physical appearance, class, and develop the personality of the player. This is optional of course, it is only if the player asks for help with a character."
*Scientist stands there still in the middle of the room in his long black robe which glistens in what little light there is inside the dreary room. His staff seems to be made of some sort of crystal, it has an eerie white glow coming from inside the staff, illuminating the spot where Scientist stands just that little bit more. As for Scientist himself, he is getting old with the winds of time, he has a grey beard trailing down his chest and you can just see the tip of his nose under the hood of the robe. As he speaks his eyes seem to have some sort of glow to them, although it could just be the reflection of his staff.*
*Whilst everyone is awed at the wonderful and extravagant place, Wilberforce remains seated. Not taking paying too much attention to what was happening. Wearing his black cloak and hat he seemed like the odd one out of this band of merry roleplayers.* "So, what now?" *As he raises from the chair. His face remains unseen due to the hat* "I'd like to meet this Scientist, I need more training to be an RP'er." *He throws his hat to the ground then jumps into the shadows*
*Septim walks towards his classroom, on the door it says "Game Mastery" in large fake gold letters. He enters his classroom, sits at his desk, and looks around. He begins counting the seats. "One...two...three-four...five...six...seven...ei-" he is cut off by his assistant entering the room. A rather large furry mongoose wearing a business suit runs in. The mongoose jumps onto the desk and sits down. "Well now Slasher, you're late, but not too late, the students however are too late, or are they? I don't know, I wish I had a clock in here...well, maybe not, because then I would know how late they are and I really don't want that to happen, it would spoil the fun!" *Septim claps and laughs a bit. He then begins tugging on his bow tie out of boredom.
*Charley looks at Harry* "Depends on what you wish to learn. Pick a category and let's see if there is a teacher for it....if they is not a teacher, then I guess I could teach it, but I am sure there are better qualified people out there." Character Development - Charley Statler
*waits patiently up in his tower shrouded by dark clouds*
*A voice comes over the PA around the building, the voice of Scientist*
[[For those who don't know how to use IRC. Follow this LINK and it will take you to the Visual Utopia IRC channel known as #vu. In order to get onto the RP channel, use the command '/join #RP-Academy' and it will take you to the channel where we're all having some fun RPing and such :)]]
*The PA system turns on again* "Attention students and guests!" "If anyone wants to be in the "RP Character Creation" class, I am planning on being in the Academy IRC channel most of the time im online. I am online pretty much every single waking moment. Weekdays from around 10am until midnight or a little later (Eastern Standard Time) and weekends a little less....so if you want an appointment, either messege me(Charley Statler), contact me on MSN at CharleyMUC08@live.com , or find me on IRC." *The PA jingle played and turned off* *Charley sits in his office and works on paperwork for a little bit and then walks out the door. He is then magically teleported to his castle in Tasidian where he goes to sleep and waits for the new day to start*
*stares at the students from within the darkness of the shadows*
I couldn't even bare to read all that noncsence, none may even compare their roleplaying skills to that of mine own. I challenge anyone to oppose me now! >_<
*Septim draws his sword. "I accept!" *Septim chops off Pumpkin Head's leg before realizing that he had not meant a duel with swords, but a duel with words. "Oh...ummm...just go to the black market, they'll replace 'em!"
*Charley takes Septim's sword and throws it in a closet and locks the door* "NO ATTACKING PEOPLE" "And...welcome to the Roleplayers Academy....if you wish to test your skills....join an RP or something" =p
Arzun looked at this so called Prince with pity, shaking his head he moved on to the man who seemed to run this entire opperation. His red robes were made of fine silk, but what beauty they once held was long gone, for they were much used and tattered. The smell of herbs and spice came from unseen pockets throughout his clothing, it had a pleasently secret aroma about it. His heavy oak staff had a small orb at the top, with vines crawling up it. He looked the man in the eyes, lowering the hood from his head and revealing his shoulder length black hair, and weathered tanned skin. "Test my skills? I already am aware of my skills, they need not be tested. I will however go on a little adventure with someone if they so please to join me. I am heading out tomorow at dawn."
* A young child enters the room with quickened step. He is consumed by a long dark cloak that smells of smoke. Small burns and rips expose the subtle glisten of armor from beneath. The hood is loose and draped over most of his face. Although young of age, he walked with pride and elegance. He peers only for a second at the heated confrontation between the men, then quietly beccons Charley to him.*
*Draws his Sword and stabs Sci*
"Oh sure! Didn't you read the sign at the entrance? No stabbing old people...wait...dangit...I mean Scientist!"
O_o
| ||||
*A tall thin wizard apprentice appears in the door. His void black robes swaying as he enters from the night wind. Sensing an immense source of power from the shadows, he turns to focus his attention on which this aura is coming from.*
"I have heard of your greatness, Demonic Insomaniak. I wish to learn the Darkness that has transformed you into the hardened shell that you are today."
Revenge wheels himself in " Yarh, ye be listening to these fine tips " Tips :
| ||||
*Turning to look at Revenge* "I am quite sorry if I have confused you...... nut I am new to this whole concept so you must forgive me if I seem a little... out of place."
*Walks out of his office*
*Turns to the door from which the founder had appeared from* " Revenge, my name is Sycrese. Might you be interested in some ale or any sort of drink? I am famished form my journey."
:D can i be the RP messaging teacher :D
*Charley Deallus looked up from his desk at Duke Ozai.* Charley then looked around the room for anyone else and then went back to writing something.
Hymir walks into the academy, looking somewhat confused. He has seen many winters and bears the scars of many battles, but is still his eyes are keen and his body and mind are as sound as his heavy armor and keen as his swords.
Charley Deallus walks out of his office and approaches Tyr. He is wearing some richly woven clothing and long robes that designate him as a high teacher of the Academy.
*Septim the crazy teacher that nobody listens to barges in. "Never here, if you want something, send a message and wait..."
The great guilded doors to the academy opened, and a proud lord walked in, careful to close them behind him. He strode long, noble strides, his red cape flowing behind him. He wore a light mail covered by a tunic with a compass rose coat-of-arms on the front. His legs were plated, and on his hands, great shining gaunlets. He wore not a helm, but a golden crown. He was Samulis, King of the Samersanian Empire, and a key figure in the Relm of Imparus. He walked in, and the people fell silent, for it was strange for a man dressed like so to appear in such a place. Greetings, my friends. I am not much of a role-player, but a good writer. I am here not to help, but to learn, truly, what are thee arts of roleplaying and how may such a man as myself learn and master them? Speak to me, O' great teachers, I wish to learn, and wish to know.
Charley Deallus III, the current Deallus family member teaching at the Roleplayers Academy, turned on the PA. "Do not be intimidated or feel that going to the academy means you are not good at all. Just look at Septim, he started off worse than anything I could possibly imagine and now look at him. You can improve and learn new skills here that will increase the quality of your roleplaying." Charley Deallus III then turned off the PA system and finished writing a few more papers before he would leave ultimately. IRC channel #RP-Academy IRC-> (LINK)
"Since when have I been Good Character Traits teacher?" *Septim remembers that one night in Mexico. "Damn that worm..." [[OOC: I'm alright with it, better than Game Mastery...then again, nobody ever asks my advice anyway...'cept Delran...]]
[[OOC: You are pretty much there because your characters have always been good(at least from what I have noticed) I didn't want to make myself an assistant because I don't want to have my hand in EVERYTHING in here. I saw Shezmu had evil character traits...so I felt that we needed someone with experience in good characters.]]
Sire, what of Maps and Cartogrophy in Role Playing? Many people have basic green and blue maps, but not really any advanced drawings, such as the ones I use for my Role-Plays.
"Map drawing would have to be an option, not a requirement. The above classes being taught are needed in 95% of RPs if they want to have a higher chance of being successful. An RP with poor character evolution or development, or a poor character in general is not a good start. Combat is in almost all RPs in these lands and it is good to have good and bad traits for characters depending on their alignment. Game mastery is very important in creation an RP. You want to have good organization and think 'how will a person joining look at this? Will it be complex and annoy them? Will it be exciting enough?' Grammar is a very important skill because personally I will not join an RP that I have to take effort to read. I did not use a map in most of my RPs and if I did, I made it simple because complex maps are not always needed. People usually wish to know where they are going. I will discuss this though."
*Closes the doors of the Academy as it fades into oblivion and obscurity*
Unstickied due to lack of use.
*Waves farewell to the forsaken thread that teaches the ways of Roleplay*
Oh em gee revival of a thread that makes me feel old. Scary, I did this when I first started college, back when I sucked at writing still. Back when we had a lot of potential people joining every week and we actually needed organization for it all.
Back in the old days! | ||||
Ah well mere reminiscing ain't gonna bring 'em back to life. *Mumbles about the exclusivity of the Tavern reincarnation magic*
Charley, you goddamn necromancer you.
Ahahah! I shall sweep the dust off of the already dusty topics of the olden days (Which are after the ancient days. Back when Scientist was only old as dirt) and bring forth a new era of dust!
Why is everyone here pretending to be characters out of a story I don't know?
Because we are all old men who did this before.
Who you calling old? | ||||
Well, let's see...you I guess.
