No crash, no events (not sure if they pop up after a saved game where you create a vassal) of creating the Netherlands, clearly a Dutch flag aswell.

Btw, if nobody wants to- I'll do Russia..

Im not sure about Holland, we might need them to get a better balance in the colonies, but there are plenty of nations in western Europe already. We need central Europeans and eastern.

Hungaria really isn't a good option at all imo, Might.

Austria will want it (and will get it), OE is likely to push for it, and maybe even Muscovy/Russia will later on. Anybody playing Hungaria won't last long at all.

You're better off with somebody like Brandenburg. But Hungaria will become Austrias *beep* in no time at all.

If one of the major nations are missing when we start and your playing a secondary nation we might tell you to play a primary nation instead.

Uh, having not played the game, and picking a nation like Austria is a bit silly. Austria requires a good/experienced player if we're to have a fun and balanced game.

A nub leading Austria will only result in Love slaughtering you.

What do you mean you'll have the "protection of germany"? "Germany" will be independent states run by the computer, you won't get much, if any protection from them.

You playing Austria may be "fun" for you, but it won't be for anybody else when the OE attacks you and takes control of central europe with ease. Hence the need for the most powerful nations (Austria, France, OE) to be controlled by experienced players.

If you really do want to play, your best off taking a minor nation. But not something that will drastically affect the entire game should you make any nub mistakes. It just isn't right to give somebody who hasn't played before one of the most important nations.

No offense, but having people in the game who haven't played at all wont' be much fun. If you go and read some multiplayer guides/FAQs, and play some hours on your own before the game, it might work.

One very important lesson is don't play just for what's happening at the moment. That's my main concern. In the last big game, Osiris hadn't played a lot before, so when he went to war he usually went much too far not to lose, taking lots of loans, minting lots of money (taking it from your budget directly instead of investing it in tech). We only played 130 years or so, out of 300+, and already by then he was lagging behind in technology.

Then what should I be?

Portugal and Brandenburg are decent secondary states. But like Ghouma says, you need a good grasp before playing multiplayer. It isn't as easy as you think, and it isn't all about your own enjoyment. EU2 needs a balance of power (hence the big alliances). If you put a poor player with a good nation, it really upsets the balance and makes the game less enjoyable.

look people i had played a ton of SP games and i took over europe with austria but i got trashed in my first mp game saved by nimic ;0 so trust me when i say no newbs as austria. austria needs to be strong or ottomens get too big

you dont have to get Ryokens scenario by yourself, you will download it from the game host.

I want to have Brandenburg btw. Im still not on the list. I dont think i can join often enough to play Austria.

Btw, my processor died too i found out after putting in a new power supply off my comp. I may not even be able to play at all. :(

Valkyrienet seems to work best this far, it worked for me, tobler and swiffers.

Valkyrienet is the standard MP method, Might.

Anyway, we tried today, and I've run into some problems. I'll have a look at the router tomorrow, if I can. If I can't, and the game runs as scheduled, someone else will have to take France :(
