16:51:44 Oct 26th 07 - Mr. Ghoumzter: Yes Patton, but beacause you are an *beep* you didnt get that the facts of prison population was in proportion to the countrys real population.
17:08:48 Oct 26th 07 - Ms. Dung Beetle: Uhmmmmm......ok...... @Patton: Word If the country's populace is predominantly one religion (assuming that the demographic statistics we are relying on is valid) then obviously that tendency will be reflected in the prison populace. But to take the stance that since the majority of inmates are (insert specific religion here) thus these specific individuals are prone to criminality is way too syllogistic for me. Its like saying that since the majority of the prison population in America are (insert specific race), then it must be assumed that those who belong to that particular race are criminals. Illogical....

17:12:58 Oct 26th 07 - Mr. Sun: you guys are all missing ghoumzter's point. one is in proportion and the other is not. but there this cannot prove the cause and effect. It could be the other way around. Or it could be an indirect effect, A causes B, A causes C. B does not cause C, nor did C cause B.
17:16:47 Oct 26th 07 - Mr. Ghoumzter: I dont think they will get it Sun, im quite sceptical of the relation thoose numbers give between christianity and crime, but they are fun when people speak of morals comming from religion.
17:21:34 Oct 26th 07 - Ms. Dung Beetle: Well obviously when we are dealing with indirect effects, then an argument can be made to justify the inclusion of a specific religion in regards to crime. If the proper data has both internal and external validity, then conclusions of this kind can be met. All I was doing was pointing out (not aimed at ghouma, just at noone in particular who may try to make this argument) that one cannot make the argument that A is related to B. B is related to C. Therefore A must be related to C. Its known as a logical fallacy....this is what Patton was pointing out earlier...... @ghouma: I'm skeptical as well^^ Its relatively easy for some to throw out any numbers or statistics they find on the internet without questioning its accuracy or credibility:P BTW, I thought the new topic was Starcraft?
