Productivity and Productivity
06:31:02 Apr 19th 08 - Mr. Freeds:

Recently I noticed just how important a high productivity is for a city... and it had not been stated on the forums that I had seen..

Take, for example, one of my cities, a 40,000 city with 6,666 Homes and 33,333 Mines. I attempted to build this city very quickly, hence the low productivity and population.
Peasants: 42267
Population=25%
Mining Sci: 5= 50% increase
Productivity=40%

Now, the mines are set to be 7 gold and 5 stone each. However, on production, I only make 139,999 gold and 99,999 stone.

33,333x(7)x(.4)x(1.5)=139,999
33,333x(5)x(.4)x(1.5)=99,999

At full productivity, this could be
33,333x(7)x(1)x(1.5)=349997

For a difference of...209,998 (60%)
This means that it is actually possible to LOSE money from new cities by building more homes, because the multiplier from productivity will drop.
Also, this puts to rest any assumption that something other than a 1:5 ratio of Houses:Buildings is best. (except for Cavemasters)
Proof that Productivity is Imperative?

Go figure.  40% means you only get 40%.

21:56:09 Apr 20th 08 - Mr. Antman:

yes but more homes = more pezzies = more tax

23:12:42 Apr 20th 08 - Mr. Freeds:

Only pezzies who are employed pay taxes, so unless you're frequently carting out extra pezzies from the city to a nearby armory city or such, the extra houses do nothing

08:27:51 Apr 21st 08 - Mr. Antman:

yes but more than 5 peezzie can be employed in a mine (I am fairly certian)

06:50:31 Apr 22nd 08 - Mr. Arjun Ramchand:

no they cant be antman. but if you are dwarf cavers can be employed. 1 caver per mine. the unemployed pezzies take up available jobs at taverns, armories, GTs, MTs. dunno if warehouses give jobs.

17:38:20 Apr 22nd 08 - Mr. Antman:

oh ok

07:01:04 Apr 23rd 08 - Mr. Random:

warehouses give jobs also, thats why your warehouse cities give gold in the form of tax.
and with productivity the key is to build heaps of houses to being with, then u always have a surplus of pezzies, that way your productivity will never drop.

23:46:39 Jun 16th 08 - Mr. Sky Chi:

I currently have a 1 to 5 city, but it has 52% population (rising slightly) and 79% productivity (dropping slightly). Would the best thing to do be to wait for population to rise?

23:30:55 Jun 25th 08 - Sir Revengee:

Buy slaves

Slaves are good :P
After you have aload of pessies back, free the slaves

Freeing Slaves = You get a certain random % of the slaves turned into peasents

Slaves work at like

3 or 4 Pessies = 1 Slave

Thats what Ive found anyway, but theres no formula

Try that :D
