Building Price Scheme
06:17:01 Dec 28th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

How are prices of buildings determined? I couldn't find an article on that.....

1 city has 10 stone and 10 tree per building

another has 6 stone and 5 tree

help? thanks

06:20:40 Dec 28th 14 - Zephyr (Marquess Hartmut):

The more buildings you have the higher the price goes for each building.

10:07:34 Dec 28th 14 - Mr. Barney:

I can give you a general idea but this is the kind of shit I want to put on a wiki. Do you want numbers, wall of text, or tl;dr?

10:12:48 Dec 28th 14 - Mr. Barney:

Generally buildings costs Xgold+25Xstone+.25Xtree (oversimplification, differs from race to race and varies based on city size). For Human/Troll/Elf/Orc it would cost 'about' 100 Gold to build a building at 5k land, 250 Gold for a building at 31.7k land, 500 Gold a building at 70k~ land, etc. This scales upwardly to amounts like '10,000+ gold a building' at well over a million land where you probably aren't building a building unless your are building some taverns to shame Tico instead of working on a VUwiki.

Does that help at all? If I feel like no one reads this stuff I won't write it.

15:53:46 Dec 28th 14 - Mr. Soccer Balls:

ya that helps..... definitley would love a wiki with exact numbers i can crunch into my master plans on domination!

21:24:15 Dec 29th 14 - Mr. Barney:

Working on it at the moment, building price relative to land is actually one of the categories I will need help filling in the blanks in some places (That's what a wiki is for anyways!) and I haven't recorded every single land-cost number, only the important ones.

02:29:38 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

This city has 7742 peasants who are working as hard as they can.

There is space for 7249 more buildings and at this time we can build a maximum of 143 structures or 143 more walls.

It costs 161 gold, 40 tree and 40 stone ( 323 for walls) to build one building.

Each building can take up to a maximum of 8 days to build.

02:29:56 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

Does that help?

That's from a city on valhalla

05:43:23 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Barney:

I would need to know what your total land is for the information to be useful, but using my wizardly powers I can deduce that you are either a 43.1k land Halfling, a roughly 16k~ land non-dwarf/halfling, or a 'Dwarf I have no fucking idea what land count you have I don't play Dwarf and this is why I need the communities help with some stuff'

(I can tell you probably arent a dwarf)

I already have a lot of the numbers, but what I will do is I'll setup a page on the wiki that has a chart with 'Race/Total Land/Building Cost' and let the community fill in the blanks with me!

Shit like 'Half land cost' 'double land cost' etc and the 'official' information for some of the races aren't even accurate which is why we need a wiki so badly.

That or you have to read 'old man barny's good ol' walls of text' (I'm actually 22).

08:48:28 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Pang Tong:

He means total land, so all the land you currently have in all your cities. With that figure, Barney can give you full details.

12:36:26 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Soccerguy:

i gave him all my cities :)

22:38:36 Dec 30th 14 - Random (Ms. Eyygurl):

Visual city size does affect tree/stone price also, not sure if that has been mentioned yet either?

01:20:45 Dec 31st 14 - Mr. Barney:

I briefly hinted at that, but didn't want to get into it in great detail because it would be too complicated for people who don't even have the fundamentals down. You do bring up the a very good point though Random, as tree/stone costs are affected by the city's visual size

01:12:48 Dec 28th 14 - Mr. Barney:
Generally buildings costs Xgold+25Xstone+.25Xtree (oversimplification, differs from race to race and varies based on city size).

I could sort of simplify this to TL;DR city sizes that are 's2' cost about half as much tree/stone and 's1' cost 'about' a quarter of that.

Here are the formulas for building cost based on city size for those interested:

s1 city, building cost is:
Xgold+.08265~Xtree+.0625~Xstone

s2 city, building cost is:
Xgold+.125~Xtree+.125~Xstone

And then any city that is visually larger than that is roughly
Xgold+.25Xtree+.25Xstone

I hope that is useful to anyone who might be interested in what
Random mentions in his post or I hinted at above!

01:26:47 Dec 31st 14 - Mr. Barney:

In this way, Dwarves and Elves can secure an economic advantage over other races by making their cities 'visually' smaller by building into mountains or trees thus saving them resources and effectively allowing them to build cities at a reduced cost.

Every race can also abuse this by building cities to 6399~ and then building 12900 land all at once for reduced cost.

Let me know if this is helpful to anyone out there, I won't be putting this sort of stuff in the wiki and I won't be making as many posts until I finish working on that, which should be any day now. At this stage it's about making it look presentable and it looks like shit atm because it's mostly just layed out and not quite prettied up.

03:22:33 Dec 31st 14 - Prince Erythnul:

keep up the good work Barney , its good to see the positive attitude you are bringing back to the game.

07:14:10 Dec 31st 14 - Mr. Soccer Balls:

go barny

hey, if i have 1k houses and 5k mines i get 24 gold per mine.

if i build 1 farm, that gets decreased correct?

13:47:48 Dec 31st 14 - Mr. Barney:

This will probably be the last forum post I make today because I am busy trying to make sure the wiki is done before GvE is arma'd if possible.

22:14:10 Dec 30th 14 - Mr. Soccer Balls:

if i have 1k houses and 5k mines i get 24 gold per mine.

Nope! This is actually an entirely different concept unrelated to land cost, and farm count doesnt hurt your mine production.

This mechanic ties into how VU balances fighting players who have millions of land when you have hundreds of thousand. It was implemented in 'The Fifth Era' which began on Fantasia Age One. (Which isn't documented correctly in the HoH. Ravage Regime didn't exist in The Fifth Era, only iPWN, Relentless, and MAD. The era that was before the one I linked above was actually during the 4th era).

If you have 5k mines and you build 1 farm, the mine production doesnt get reduced. If you have 5k mines and you build 1 mine, the mine production does get reduced.

There are also other less known things that combo into this mechanic to reduce the effectiveness of having millions of land like tax gold and such tying into total peasant count, but people generally understand '1,000,000 million land isnt 10x as effective as 100,000 land'

I hope that helps, and understanding the concept in purple should make it clear why land-drops are so effective in The Fifth Era!

Land-drops and stuff were always used, especially in The Fourth Era, but they were mostly only useful to low-land STGers who were already very secretive and veteran players.

05:57:46 Jan 2nd 15 - Mr. Soccerguy:

one of my mining cities has mines that produce 13 gold and 10 stone

another one does 12 gold and 10 stone

why?

06:10:45 Jan 2nd 15 - Zephyr (Prince Barigan):

it depends on how close your city is to a mine

08:40:26 Jan 2nd 15 - Mr. Mallikor:

He means mountain

10:19:47 Jan 2nd 15 - Zephyr (Marquess Hartmut):

a mountain in a way is a mine but yeah what Mallikor said!

16:26:45 Jan 2nd 15 - Mr. Soccer Balls:

and if both cities are virtually on top of mountains?

another question: a city can be built farther away from mountains, but you can get the bonus if you build enough mines to reach it correct?

06:13:59 Jan 6th 15 - Mr. Soccerguy:

if a city has 30k mines and is clearly close enough to mountains.....is it possible to only get 2 gold per mine if the population is extremely low?

maybe just cause the mines reach the mountains, doesn't mean you get the bonus unless those mines are being used?

04:54:34 Jan 7th 15 - Mr. Barney:

If the population is really low (thus the productivity is low), and/or sciences are really low and.or you have a higher total mine count you can definitely get 2 gold per mine despite having the full mining bonus.

The 3 things to look at if you have 2 gold per mine mines are:

1. Mining bonus
2. Productivity%
3. Total Mines (for your ruler, you would need millions of total mines for 2 gold full bonus 100%prod mines)

04:28:09 Jan 20th 15 - Mr. Soccerguy:

that's the answer, thanks!

03:25:45 Feb 24th 18 - SockHer (Soccer Sockher Face):

Did the wiki ever get done barney?

03:43:03 Feb 24th 18 - Mr. Pang Tong:

Barney hasn't played in awhile

03:45:20 Feb 24th 18 - SockHer (Soccer Socceratious):

This is 3 years old, was hoping he had finished it

03:47:57 Feb 24th 18 - Mr. Pang Tong:

He had probably had a draft of it somewhere in his life of VU

08:37:48 Feb 24th 18 - Mr. Blah Blah The Brutal:

His dog ate it.

08:52:05 Feb 24th 18 - Mr. Bane:

takes 10 mins to put a wiki up. who gonna write all the shit to go into it?

16:56:53 Feb 24th 18 - SockHer (Soccer Sockher Face):

barney already has.....its across these forums everywhere
