Special Abilities
09:53:11 Nov 2nd 13 - Dark Spawn (Lord Dark Spawn):

I was looking through many guides about the special abilities that races in the game have, and so far I have noticed that most of the abilities are not even used? Can someone confirm to me, this what I found:

For example:
Halflings have steam food. That gives enemy armies in the city experience and you only get food, without killing enemy troops. I asked around, people say they never use this unless they are in negative food.
Orcs have their forced march that kills units, so does it ever get used? You would not want to lose Nazguls for going too fast? I hear that this is used only for scout size, thats all?
Humans have catapult attack that is pointless, you need full prep for attack on walls and towers? Hoes does that work? Do you kill enemy troops? Does anyone ever use this? Also, mobilization, is it ever used? You still lose troops, training expensive Knights, do you really want to lose a potion of them training? Plus you lower morale...
Dwarfs have their extra plunder, but that cant be turned off.
Elves and Trolls have no such advantages right?

10:33:53 Nov 2nd 13 - Bran (Ms. Bran The Bearded):

elves have a chance of casting a spell with no casualties
orcs lower morale when prepping
trolls have the added bonus of killing their own troops in a fight and also having more expensive sciences i think!

10:36:20 Nov 2nd 13 - Dark Spawn (Lord Dark Spawn):

No I mean the abilities that can be turned on and off. Lowering morale and successful spells are a given, you cant change that.

But I did want confirmation on the first post. Thanx

14:24:55 Nov 2nd 13 - Mr. Igniis Maiyan:

Most people use forc march on low lv soldiers like gaias and hammerthrowers but some use to hit a armie if its a bit away and u dont want to lose u city.Same with mobilse low lv tropp to defend a city :D

Most of the stuff is used :p but I didnt know dwarf had a bonuse plunder.

14:26:40 Nov 2nd 13 - Mr. Igniis Maiyan:

It only says

Cavemasters will plunder and blow up mines when you attack
And u can choose it by not having cavemasters in u armie

15:54:31 Nov 2nd 13 - Mr. Edd:

Mobilizing troops is extremely useful. I always use it. The losses you get from it are way worth the usefulness. and also just build like 2k taverns and you are good on morale.

15:54:32 Nov 2nd 13 - Princess Beofcuk:

You don't look at these "Abilities" as extras. You look at them as a way to balance the races. Yes Bombard is useless.

But for example, trolls kill more troops in a battle, they have the best Gold to OP troops, they have increased lumber production. Theres many things that make the races balanced. Dwarves need a bit of a buff however and halfers need a points nerf.

True dwarf rule has long since been over thrown. Halfer are much more powerful than they should be. But the balance isn't fair for all races quite yet. Bombard seems to be the only not useful skill, but then again think of it this way. You have a 90k city maxed with gts and walls. Your huge knight army has stalled on this city and your enemy is gaining troops and allies while your stuck. The cats come in and bust it up you take the city, u save the day. All abilities are useful, you just gonna be a good tactician and learn to use them sucessfully. Not all are uber, but things like force march are great, remember, you can force march an army for one tick. Or force march 10-100 naz, take a ton of cities quick. You don't lose that much really. And it helped me stay ahead of lgc the era before last when I was defending our core oop

03:09:21 Nov 3rd 13 - Princess Beofcuk:

Shyers, bombard operates with the same % as a take over/plunder etc. If you have a chance to bombard you may as well just take it.

04:06:36 Nov 3rd 13 - Ms. Kodachi:

I dont get how any of your catapults can die with a bombard though...

11:39:44 Nov 3rd 13 - Bran (Duke Bran):

whats the point of bombarding if you can take over? seems pointless

12:51:47 Nov 3rd 13 - Tyr (Mr. Tyrminator):

That is exactly why it is pointless lol. No reason to bombard if you can take over. Its the most useless ability/skill of them all I would say.

level 2 aka ranged units and other catas can fight back.

02:45:29 Nov 4th 13 - Mr. Denko Raikiri:

I remember the only time I tried to use bombard on a city, bombarding was the option that had the highest success rate and I was fully prepped, with a 90%+ rate I bombarded and got my ass handed to me by way of nearly all cats and troops with them getting killed. I could have done a normal attack and won but I was curious. Never used bombard again... or played as a human since actually.

03:32:18 Nov 4th 13 - Mr. Edd:

humans are the best but i don't train cata's too weak on def.

06:31:55 Nov 4th 13 - Mr. Kublai Khan:

knights are massive on upkeep and very hard to aotd.. especially when you have like 600k or so plus mus and have to hit an army in the open..

07:13:37 Nov 4th 13 - Mr. Edd:

yea but cata's massive half def is too big to use.

08:22:45 Nov 4th 13 - Dark Spawn (Lord Dark Spawn):

What is the percentage of troops lost on forced march for Orcs? Did anyone ever calculate that? Also Igniss, Cavemasters have that ability to plunder extra, after you do your normal plunder its written they plunder some more, thats all.

So having 2k taverns will make the morale never go down even under mobilization right? Anyone know what is the percentage lost on mobilization and just how much faster do your troops train when you have the option on?

Also I think in the catapult option it says if the attack is successful the losses should be minimal? So maybe if you succeed all your troops should survive, and on normal attack with a bad dice roll you would lose a lot? Or maybe bombard attack works the same, if you have a bad dice roll you would still lose a lot no matter if it says you will have minimal losses?

08:50:05 Nov 4th 13 - Mr. Edd:

no 2k taverns you still lose morale but it shouldnt impact you so much you won't function.

08:50:37 Nov 4th 13 - Mr. Edd:

mobilizing troops lets you train at twice the speed.

09:09:36 Nov 4th 13 - Princess Beofcuk:

Its not a fixed %, various variables affect the outcome of troops lost.

23:09:48 Dec 2nd 13 - ZeTa (VU Admin):

Bombardment can be used if you don't want to send in the orcs to destroy it.
Just make sure they do not have anything to fight back with, because catapults have weak defense.

Catapults are one of the worst units in this game! Bombardment never pays off. High risk and low reward. My understanding is that ranged units are the only defense you should worry about when using bombard. Am I wrong or do Guard Towers count as ranged also? Even so, does an arrow, a hammer or a rock cause real damage to a catapult? Plus, your chances of success are the same as a takeover. Why not just take the city over. No need for bombardment.

Weak defense. Slow as a snail armies. If I'm playing human, I'm training knights. Why waste gold on catapults when I can just invest in magic and knights. Human race is the middle race here it seems. Average at best.

17:46:18 Dec 3rd 13 - Dark Spawn (Lord Dark Spawn):

Why use bombard when you can take over? Simple.
If I knew this, I would have looked for a Human as well, because in this situation I looked for Orc to burn and destroy, and did not find any, so I had to take this crappy town. If I knew I can ask Humans I might have had better chance.

Now I am stuck with this city, that gives me lots of building upkeep and no real use, and I would need over 20 million to destroy this city, really not worth it.

Guardtowers
Gives extra defence and increases line of sight.
Built: 40000 Build:
In construction: 0

18:14:53 Dec 3rd 13 - Mr. Salazarius:

Better to use that kind of city to siege trap a noob

01:19:06 Dec 5th 13 - Jack Daniels The drunk (Mr. Jackdaniels):

i think if we gave humans bombard on siege it would be useful but instead of making it an attack make the city lose a % of it's walls every turn or every third turn (idc how it works) after the siege a city but make it so there has to be catas in there army and base the % off how many catas they have and max it at 10% or something

yeah i know that wouldnt be the most epic fix but would go a long way to making catas seem useful

My question wasn't answered about GTs. If they count as ranged, then catas wouldn't help much versus 40k gts. If they are not ranged, then your idea would work. If it doesn't matter and you can get attacked back by level 1s, 3s and 5s then bombard is just bogus to begin with.

22:30:47 Dec 5th 13 - Dark Spawn (Mr. Dark Spawn The Small):

Bombard attack is same as normal attack. Does not matter if they have ranged units or not, don't know why you guys keep mentioning that.

If you attack at 100% even if the has defenders you will have low to zero loses.
If the guy has 40k towers, you can simply attack with a huge Knights army that has Catas in there, bombardment does not count only Catas, its the entire army in the diceroll.

If you have 90% and roll a high dice roll your loses will be greater.
Also if you have 40% chance and you try your luck, if you roll more than double (>80% dice roll) your entire army will die. Even if you win at that chance your loses will be great.
