Hints on Gaining RP points
14:36:40 Jan 19th 09 - Lord Scientist:

At the end of every era, I or another mod of my choosing should I be absent, goes through the Reported Messages. This thread shall contain some hints on how to gain RP Points..........There is a thread for Questions & Answers HERE........so if you have a question, please read over the ones which have already been answered and if yours isn't there.......post it.........please be patient as all questions will be answered..........

Most people usually gain 1 point, however, there have been people who gained 2-3 points in one era due to outstanding and consistent roleplaying messages.

Here are a few starters to work on.........

  • Introductions, always ALWAYS introduce yourself at the beginning of a RP conversation.........not in every letter, but at least in the first one........the more detail the better as it allows for the other person to use that in their replies...........
  • Length, can be anything from a paragraph (or 5 sentences) to a full letter. Also. the longer you sustain the roleplay throughout the era the better.
  • Content, how well the role play develops and the phrasing/wording of each sentence is. Remember to stay in character throughout. The more detailed the better.
  • Uniqueness, what sets your role play out from the rest of them. This has to do with your own style and may vary. IE: Raistlin went with demonic death/evil type and focused more on killing and torture.
  • Plot, where is this role play going? Keeping a good suspense and interest in your role play will give you a better chance of gaining role playing points.
Well i hope this helps, follow these guidelines and you're sure to gain the title of your choosing soon. ;)

Yours,
Lord Scientist

*********An example of how to write a RP message***********

Greetings my old friend Mr. Blah,

How goes things in your kingdom?

I myself am fine, and am looking forward to the weeks events. I need a new general for one of my armies of 50,000 men, so I have set up an excercise to take place on the plains around my main city. There are two armies of 1500 who will play in a war game against each other, a potential leader at each ones head. I have had the arrowheads taken off of arrows for the excercise, and wooden swords are the only ones used. each weapons blade, or tip in the case of arrows, is to be coated with a black paste that will mark whoever it strikes, marking the mens armour. Those people are pronounced "Dead." The person to destroy the enemy battalion first is the victor!

I look forward to hearing any news you may have to tell me

Yours,

Lord Wolvern Warrior

Alright, since I have been doing RP points this era so far...I am a tad disappointed.

  • There MUST be a heading and a closing to the message if you even want it to be considered.  That means...

Greetings Duke Whoever,
I am writing this or else no RP points for many people<---insert 6+ sentences with content.
Signed,
Lord Iambored

  • There CANNOT be actions written in messages or they will not be considered for RP points.  That means...

*Lord Whatsmyname ties a note to the leg of his random giant eagle, which is sitting on his leg, and sends it off to deliver the message.* ect ect ect.

If you were really writing a message, would you write your actions? No.  Unless you were being an oddball.  No points will be given if you include actions :)  This has been decided.

If there are ANY questions, either ask them in the Q&A topic, or message Scientist or myself.

PS - I would prefer people use simple English instead of butchering the medieval styles :)

I will add one more point that should be important.

  • If you are going for a Sir title, I will be more lenient.  If you are going for a title such as Prince, I will be VERY strict.  The farther along you get, the harder you have to work so that your title is a symbol of your hard work.  English, grammar, length, and content should all increase in skill as you go along.

21:57:32 Jul 4th 11 - Mr. Grot Stompa:

Im role playing an Orc from the war hammer 40k universe who's crash landed on this planet. Orcs are brutish and talk lik dis cuz dey cant make tha proppa soundz of tha common gitz coz they mouths r to big an choppy like.

so basically my grammar is going to be terrible and instead of writing "Signed Grot Stompa the Third" hes jsut gonig to write "bugger off u gitz".

By the rules here that would be bad role playing but i dont think it is. Im not saying its good, mind, im saying i shouldnt be refused RP points because i wont sign my letters properly. I dont want to role play a toff with the best English and manners possible. I want to role play a brute who doesnt give a shit about signing his letters.

12:11:27 Jul 7th 11 - Emperor Alexius Septimus Cidellus:

I don't even think anybody is doing RP points anymore. Zeta hasn't appointed a new RP mod yet, and I don't know if he will. Currently, all an RP mod would do is give out RP points, as there's not really a forum to moderate anymore. This place is extremely dead...

:(

13:50:26 Jul 7th 11 - Mr. Polymer:

i volunteered multiple time to be teh RP mod and if there was a mod I would RP

10:44:22 Jul 11th 11 - Emperor Alexius Septimus Cidellus:

Yeah, I volunteered as well. I received no response. *shrugs*

17:29:58 Jul 11th 11 - VU Admin:

You two. Try to catch me on messenger or chat.

18:44:11 Jul 11th 11 - Mr. Panic Lucky Number XIII:

can't get messenger anymore...VU chat, skype, or email only.... and i've certainly email you plenty!

22:26:31 Jul 13th 11 - Emperor Alexius Septimus Cidellus:

Okay! I've been made an RPing mod, and have done the RP points. I didn't do them for any messages before the beginning of June, as there were hundreds (they hadn't been done in about a year), and most people don't keep the same ruler name for that long.

Here are the people who received RP points:

Frostburn - 1
Urist Mcminer - 1
James Bond - 1

Congratulations to those who received RP points. Have an excellent day.

04:12:58 Aug 26th 11 - SFD (Ms. Slim Fast Diet):

hazaaa i come back and there is a new RP Mod......nice
well i want to start RPing again on both of my none duke players so if anyone reads this and wants to RP msg me a RP

16:15:19 Aug 26th 11 - Mr. Zero Hour:

I do RP i just do not do it in mail.I would be really happy if any of you would face me in T-1 UM battle.

People would try more if the rank would give them something more than just a name.
Like a resource bonus or extra turns...i don't know.Free troops maybe?

I see no point in writing a msg to somebody telling that i have party in my city Segundo.I find that pointless.

Most important rules of RP: 1.Proper grammar.
That is it just some fantasy and you could be a great RP-er.

I have 2 RP characters called Raxxx and Zantetsuken.

Raxxx is a warrior who uses old school fighting styles. He fights whit a ocean blue sword and a round shaped shield.(I use this character in T-1 RM or MP and in T-3.)

Zantetsuken is a water magician. He uses magic in anyway possible, anything that is made out of water or ice he controls.

I RP in another game and 1 attack post must at least be 1k letters long.Intro or entrance as such must be from 5k letters to 8k or more.Even though i have not wrote an intro yet i just improvise when somebody challenges me.

I do not even know if this is the right place to write this but ranks are quite pointless.Maybe the way you get them must be changed?Like for the rank 'Sir' you need 100 exp points and for 'Prince' you need 5.5k exp points?Cause now when you see someone whit the rank 'Lord' he might not know anything about the game yet he just sent a few good RP mails?

Think about this and i hope something happens.

Greetings from,
Mr. Zero Hour.

Is cursing considered bad roleplaying? seeing as how when I report it it will just read like: *beep* or whatever. Just something I thought of.

Unless it has relevance to the storyline It shouldn't be used, however, it is important to note that cursing in general shouldn't be done within the structure of the game.

16:12:47 May 20th 13 - Juicebox (Mr. Quentus Batiatus):

Well I'm roleplaying with my RL friends, Our kingdom is Blood And Sand with a gladiator theme and I would imagine the gladiators and such cursed heavily and were very crude. This is what I was going for.

22:34:45 May 20th 13 - ZeTa (VU Admin):

You don't have to make up stories. Just reply like if you where the ruler of your people. Think medieval fantasy setting. You are a noble person and you own a bunch of cities and are in control of major armies. How would you write a letter?

Just write like you a writing a normal e-mail or snail-mail. But act like you are a character in the game.

22:39:43 Aug 6th 13 - Mr. Zlz:

I'm kinda going for a 'storyteller' character, the kind that sits round a campfire singing songs of battle, Etc. would I get RP points for stuff I do in the forums?

08:56:12 Aug 8th 13 - Zephyr (Marquess Esmeralda):

You will NOT get points for forum rp, just in-game message rp.

22:23:53 Aug 10th 13 - Mr. Hellosmarttoownneverever:

Aw, damnit

15:00:25 Dec 24th 14 - Mr. Yisrahel:

Is this still done?

15:01:33 Dec 24th 14 - Zephyr (Marquess Hartmut):

Yes, it is still done, but you won't receive your points right away. It takes time, they are handed out each month or so  believe.

15:23:33 Dec 24th 14 - Mr. Yisrahel:

Just wanted to make sure cause last time i checked into VU I think one of the mods or someone was handing out the RP points and it took like a hundred years or so lol
