Work In Progress
20:39:55 Apr 23rd 10 - King Ernest Deallus The Wise:

Alright, despite being very busy(and inactive) I have been working on a large RP(I have low expectations still) that I hope will be one of my best(that will stay active and I will maintain interest in).  My inspiration? Well, you can make guesses.  I don't feel like saying anything atm :)  I will make a world map, I will work on races, classes, maybe a magic system(to be decided).  But first...I want to know what races people would be interested in being in this RP.  It will be set in a medieval time period.  If you suggest a race, tell me how you would want it to be.  For example.

Charley - I want elves to be the more powerful mages and archers.
or
Charley - I want dwarves to be the strongest melee fighters and have a natural resistance to magic, but that also means they cannot be mages no matter what.
or
Charley - I want humans to be the balanced race that can be anything, but can be beaten by another race that specializes entirely on something.

I may include some kind of stats(very simple) but this is still in the very early stages.  There will be a main storyline planned...meaning, less doing mindless repetitive stuff(I hope!).

I am open to suggestions.

Keywords:
Templar, Archon, Navir, Pilate

Meant to make you curious.  The words do not(hopefully) have any relation to their literal meaning.  Hoping to mess with them :)

Hey Charley,

I have never role-played before so am not sure how to. If you were to message me in-game then I would be very grateful to receive advice from you on how to role-play. I can guarantee you that I would be very active and would put everything into this to try and succeed but I do need a lot of help as I really don't have a clue how to role-play. If you can give me a chance then that would be awesome, though I do respect you are inactive due to life issues and so may not be able to help me. If you don't have the time to help me please can you recommend someone else in which I can try and get role-playing advice from as I would be equally very grateful.

Thanks
Samual

Sounds like a plan Charley!

Yay!!! New RP :)

20:48:18 Apr 24th 10 - King Ernest Deallus The Wise:

This will most likely be my summer project.  At this current time, however, I am a tad busy with classes(that end tuesday).  I then get a few days off to study, then I have final exams until the 5th.  After that, I would probably need a few days to settle back in at home and then work on a simplish map(I tend to end up taking days detailing and putting lots of effort into my maps).

Sorry Samual, I would have to recommend Mirror/Erunion, Septim/Cidellus, or one of the other RPers on this forum right now.  I wouldn't have the time to properly help you out.

Beginning map work.  Finished exams for this week, so I have a few hours to burn.

After using editions of an old map + a new continent(work in progress), I now have version 3 of my map.  Several RL friends of mine have expressed interest in doing an RP together, which may end up with there being 2 RPs.  One here, one elsewhere on a private site.  Unsure 100% how this will turn out.  Still working on the map.  I estimate it is 25% complete.

20:06:56 May 4th 10 - Sir Mirror:

Nice map Charley! May I suggest more mountains and less regularity of terrain, it may be convenient to follow the Star Wars pattern and make an entire island covered in snow, or swamp or desert, but this isn't altogether realistic... Think real-life islands, like Australia which has a ring of rich terrain (tropical near the equator) but a desert center.
The top left continent is particularly good, I would only suggest some steppes/plains and a few more hills/mountains.

For your overall map, think of what this world is going to be like overall; Where are the polar ice caps? Are there polar ice caps? Where is the equator? What would constitute the "Arctic Circle" or the "Equatorial region"? How close is my planet to my sun? If it's closer than earth, then you might not have polar ice caps and the center of the planet would be a strip of desert, whereas the northern and southernmost regions would be rich and healthy. Is the planet going through an ice age? Has the climate shifted the other way into a dry spell?

Once you have an overall planetary summary, it makes the creative process much easier as you just have to look at where the territory is in relation to your map and place it.

Good luck!

Just wondering... Why not get your RL friends to RP on this site for just this once? Would mean we have more people and maybe get a new player or two ;)

The shiny flat reflection device stole the words out of my mouth, but I didn't want to say anything as I was worried that Charley might lose inspiration and stab a homeless man to death.

I've been trying to make my continents less perfectly shaped and more oddly shaped. Hard to do that, though. Especially with such a small area to draw the continents in. =P

Grrr, I just wrote a reply to everyone but VU f*cking logged me out when I posted.

@Erunion - Map is only 25% done, I use different shades of green, brown, and grey to show elevation changes(hills, shallow valleys, etc).  I don't have an overall planetary outline that will make it super-realistic.  I am aiming for a nice world that has a little bit of each type of environment, not realism.  I have not done the arctic areas yet since those are difficult to do.  Snow and desert areas are hard since they don't really have a lot of detail unless you do mountains, and I have worked on mountains a lot and found that making lots of them does not look very good on the map.  I am taking this one step at a time.  Adding too much detail at times can make things very congested.

@Wraith - I thought of doing it here or on my private website, but we may just make a private Wiki that we can just work on together.  It would give us all admin abilities.  I am still discussing things with them and only met two of the people I plan on writing with.

@Septim - I use my touchpad for all map-making.  I found that simply randomly moving my fingers across my touchpad give a more random look to my continents.  I don't always get it the way I want on the first try, but I work with things as best as I can.  I also try to avoid Earth-like features like the Italian boot, which I used to have before I edited it and changed it into a large peninsula with no boot shape.

As always, thanks for input.  This is a work in progress.

Things noted:  Make hills and shallower areas more obvious to see.  More details(Steppes, savannas, etc) to larger continent.  Add arctic area.  Try and add more mountains(will see how that looks).

EDIT - VU did it to me again, but luckily I copied my post before clicking the post button and saved it :D

08:37:38 May 5th 10 - Mr. Zero:

hmmm what exactly are you using to make your map? any particular program or is it just paint(which i totally doubt)?

16:13:30 May 5th 10 - King Ernest Deallus The Wise:

GIMP.  I used to have Photoshop, but then I got a new computer and it wouldn't transfer to my laptop.
