The Perfect MMO
01:30:22 Dec 18th 08 - Lord Cedric Deallus:

Would they be used for getting money?

02:03:08 Dec 18th 08 - Master Cloutier:

yes, If you think about this it may help a bit. Say you want to be king... Who will build your castle? A Carpenter. Who will built his blue prints? An Architect.

King needs a: Carpenter to build Castles
Carpenter needs a: Architect to build designs
Architect needs a: Merchant to get brushes
Merchant needs: farmer, fisherman, wood cutters, etc to get items.

This is just a small thing.
Only carpenters can build things, farmers farm, cooks cook, wood cutters to gather wood, theives steal, etc. Everyone is important and all have differant things to do. But everyone can fight. That is why I created the stat points and stat levels.

18:10:16 Dec 18th 08 - Mr. Demonsul:

So it's all just jobs? You should be able to change jobs, have multiple skills or something. Otherwise you would need to spend hours or even days getting from brush to castle (not including make times).

18:29:14 Dec 18th 08 - Lord Cedric Deallus:

There could always be the guilds of people who are working together.

Example - Merchant guild, Architect guild, Carpentry guild.  Each of them would have a members who work together on jobs and then send the supplies to the architects, then they work on it before passing it on to the carpenters, who complete the work.

I have seen it done before.  It does take time, but the work is efficient and they usually offer discouts ;)

There are also groups that may combine merchants, architects, and carpenters, calling themselves maybe "The Builders Guild" or something fancy.  Their job would be building things of course.  Each part of their group would gather the resources needed and make a building.

18:30:58 Dec 18th 08 - Mr. Demonsul:

It would require a pretty large number of players...your tradesmen may be useless for the first weeks or even months after launch.

19:23:56 Dec 18th 08 - Pirate Lewatha:

so the skills would be kind of like runescape? (don't flame me here)

I mean, every skill has it's use, and it all helps combat in a certain way and there's plenty of skills to level.

19:45:35 Dec 18th 08 - Mr. Demonsul:

Not really, it looks like he's limiting everyone to one skill each.

19:47:25 Dec 18th 08 - Mr. Blast of Darkness:

i think it shud be at least 3 skills...

I said that on the first page somewhere...so many things to do apparently...

23:14:50 Dec 18th 08 - Master Cloutier:

The reason Im trying to limit people to one skill is because I want to make this so you need everyone. If you want someone to work for you to help you get stuff then you can do it that way. I know on runescape you can do everything by your self and that the thing I hate about it. Its not a team game. I like games where you work together

23:37:00 Dec 18th 08 - Mr. Sanoh:

i think that you should be able to have at least 2 skills. im saying this because it would suck to be so dependant on people that you have to wait on someone to do something

23:43:00 Dec 18th 08 - Master Cloutier:

Well thats something I will have to think about. Ok because you guys want to do a little of everything this is what I will do. There will be skill levels for each skill. So a farmer may be able to cook a little but not as good as a cook. A cook can farm but not as good as a farmer. This means a cook can only cook the best of the food.

23:46:01 Dec 18th 08 - Mr. Sanoh:

that sounds good cloutier. i cant wait to see the game

23:51:06 Dec 18th 08 - Master Cloutier:

23:51:40 Dec 18th 08 - Master Cloutier:

well I hope it will be up withen a year. I will post a beta site for the game.

08:27:05 Dec 19th 08 - Lord Cedric Deallus:

I will knit a sweater while I wait...

/sarcasm

Will there be RPing? :)

00:41:15 Dec 22nd 08 - Master Cloutier:

im not sure. I dont think it would be good because this game has it.

03:35:41 Dec 23rd 08 - Master Cloutier:

any one have more ideas

05:00:28 Dec 23rd 08 - Duke Arzun:

10:44:58 Dec 23rd 08 - Master Cloutier:

15:37:23 Dec 23rd 08 - Sir Demonsul:

14:08:16 Dec 24th 08 - Mr. Salaracen The Good Dancer:

Darkfall has 'PRE beta testing going on' the official beta will be in a month or 2 I guess, we have a release date for the game, so it should be anytime between that point and now.

04:13:58 Apr 1st 09 - Master Cloutier:

04:58:17 Apr 1st 09 - Mr. Sdrawkcab:

is your mmo made yet?

05:05:09 Apr 1st 09 - Master Cloutier:

Some what? Its kingdom WarZ

05:06:10 Apr 1st 09 - Mr. Sdrawkcab:

l im checking it out, i  liked some of the ideas so i hope this is good :D

07:49:11 Apr 1st 09 - Mr. Rambutan:

Can't find it,  but good luck with it, that "following the path of a god" idea was pretty sweet, I would definitely try out an MMORPG like that, assuming it was an item shop game, and not pay-to-play.

I play a ridiculous amount of MMO's, and the advice I gave you way earlier about how to not piss off your customers still holds true.  *says in spooky voice* "Do not forget my wisdom"

Look back on the posts by "Fitesalot"  for said wisdom  ^_^

I'm interested to know, did you go with the God-path idea or not?

08:07:11 Apr 1st 09 - Mr. Rambutan:

Ok, it looks interesting, I thought you had a bigger-budget type of game in mind.  But it's very cool that you actually made a game at all  :D     anyways good luck with it.

17:44:38 Apr 1st 09 - Mr. Rambutan:

ok.... I tried it, and wdf are you supposed to do after you kill all the monsters on the island?   0_o    none of them respawn.....

19:47:13 Apr 1st 09 - Pirate Lewatha:

http://www.nowhere-else.org/rpg/

http://www.kingdomwarz.com/RPG/nbase.php

almost exactly the same -.-

20:18:40 Apr 1st 09 - Mr. Rambutan:

wow, that is pretty much the same :/

03:32:20 Apr 2nd 09 - Duke Playaaaa:

Hmmm... my friend is one of the creators of Nowhere else and beyond... wonder if he knows about that...

04:35:29 Apr 2nd 09 - Mr. Loki:

anything that is CLOSE to perfect is a mmo with no bots! even a game like runescape have them!

but i want to try darkfall :) it look nice...fsp at range 3v at melee :)))

and best it have no level restriction all depend on crafting..so u can be a newb and wear a epic teir 5m weapon and just be you...

04:38:58 Apr 2nd 09 - Mr. Rambutan:

I can name lots of MMO's with few-no bots. MMO's screw up in lots of other places way before they screw up there.

Runescape had so many bots it was ridiculous last time I was there, maybe they fixed that?

04:45:15 Apr 2nd 09 - Mr. Loki:

yeah but in order to do that they lose lot of player...

05:01:18 Apr 2nd 09 - Lord Stewie Griffin:

yeah Runescape is much much better now....u barely see any bots these days...to be honest, i havent seen a single bot for like the last 3-4 months..

21:37:08 Apr 2nd 09 - Pirate Lewatha:

aye, bots got eliminated in runescape, but at the cost of the wilderness.

21:50:29 Apr 2nd 09 - Demonslayer William Berkeley:

How's that?

21:59:41 Apr 2nd 09 - Mr. Braggi:

but it got PvP worlds :P

22:20:13 Apr 2nd 09 - Pirate Lewatha:

I won't bother explaining that demonslayer... it'd take me 2 pages...

and PvP worlds suck, drops are lame and too many pjers.

Who is your friend that help make it.

09:02:03 Apr 5th 09 - Pirate Lewatha:

so you talked 2 pages long about the perfect MMO.

than you copied a game, which isn't very good. And wrote YOUR name as the creator of the game..

lame dude... lame...

09:54:21 Apr 5th 09 - Ms. Ross:

Its called a game engine, that I purchased and coded more things for the game. Changed the look by hiring an artist to make images for me. So not very lame.

10:49:13 Apr 5th 09 - Commander Baldwin:

If you are planning to make your own game, I'd suggest you start with very small one and grow it up gradually. I've seen so many software projects fail because of trying to make it perfect and big the first time (or first iteration). Won't happen and you will fail if you think you can... unless you have A LOT of resources and can take risk and know what you are doing.

Do few days of research on backgrounds of similar projects, search from google "why software projects fail", read about agile methodologies like Scrum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrum_(development)) and check other methodologies as well (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_software_development_philosophies).

I was actually once planning to start creating my own VU like game and still might at some point. But I would start by creating first a possibility to move "pieces in a board" or armies in a map. Then see about creating maybe two races that fight each other and when that is actually working... start to build up more features in it.

Deliver fast, deliver early, iterate, and grow the software gradually. Make it work the first week, and not after "you have it all done". Test it all the time and get feedback.
