Mr. Water has experienced the oppression of a tyrannical military or theocratic state first hand. He was an officer who saw inherent flaws in the plans of his superiors. As a result, he has lost all respect for authority figures and believes that only the corrupt rise to positions of power.
Mr. Water was raised in an environment that taught him he was the best at bending the water element. However, once he left the ice-capped mountains, he found out to his dismay that many other people are better than he is at that pursuit. This experience has humbled him greatly. He ran afoul of the beast by thwarting one of its plans and now the dragon has decided that this Water must die. The Dragon is still said to haunt the lands of Starta ever growing by rarely seen.
A beloved friend of Mr. Water vanished under mysterious circumstances also related to the Starta Dragon. Mr. Water fears she may be dead but hopes this is not the case. Mr. Water may dedicate himself to finding this person or, at the very least, discovering or her fate.
5 years ago, while kneeling at his deathbed, Mr. Water's aged mentor and fellow bender shared the wisdom of his years with Mr. Water. He passed down great secrets kept from Mr. Water since his birth. These tales and lessons have stuck with him throughout the years. Because of this exposure to wisdom, Mr. Water is a true believer in destiny.
