Thechamp, what rugby are you talking about Union or League. Their is a difference. If your talking about League, then yes you could say they are similar because in fact American Football derived from Rugby League (consist of 5 downs), if your talking about Rugby Union, then there are many differences. Too many to say right now

Well, when everyday I see people saying "Soccer(Football) isn't a sport." or "Soccer(football) is a pussy sport." or Soccer(Football) is a poor man's sport." then who is dissing who? You cannot just say it is Europeans dissing American sports without being a close-minded fool. I am American and enjoyed both sports, but seeing other Americans trash talking soccer(football) just gave me this negative view of my own people. Always pointing the finger at other people and never themselves.

We English say "defence". You American's, not imaginative enough to develop your own language, instead choose to use our version and "Americanise" it to make yourselves feel unique. AKA, make it retarded.

The only time I've ever seen an American insult rugby is when someone insulted American football. And everyone I know doesn't care much about rugby. You do know that most football players don't wear upper arm pads? It would've made more sense to have a rib cage protector than upper arm pads on there. And the fingerless gloves are made to prevent hands being smashed for linemen. I personally am a lineman, but I like receivers' gloves better, more grip on anything really is more my style, plus they help from twisting fingers.�

American football is the way it is because if there were no pads then there would be no players, everyone would get hurt too fast and there'd need to be new players 24/7. I would really like to know why people make fun of American Football in this forum, when we never talk trash about your sports unless you start something about ours.
