Dom nodded when he saw Miller and then moved towards the fence after the guards moved away.  He placed a number of small devices on the fence and the electrical charge around a small area had been cut off.  Then Dom quickly sliced a hole in the fence with a special blade and the group rushed through and towards the backside of the main building.  Dom then hastily sealed the hole in the fence by melding the fence back together somewhat.  They found a ventilation hole with a large metal fan that was active, but a few quick uses of a device deactivated the power for 30 seconds, which allowed the group to slip through and into the main building.
Dom moved over to Martin's ear and whispered.
"Alright, I want you to go with Miller, Farilor, and Sam while I go with Xarxes and Brad.  If we find anything interesting, bring it back here.  Try not to cause too much trouble.
"Will do," said Martin as he and the others with him moved off down one of the corridors.  Dom, Xarxes, and Brad moved down one going the opposite direction.  No guards were seen, no security devices were detected.
"Odd..." thought Dom as he continued to infiltrate deeper.

Martin led the group through the facility, using gadgets when necessary. Eventually, they reached a storage room, and Miller, Farilor, and Sam covered the hallways while Martin hacked the electronic locks, afterwards, he slid a small metal disk under the door to jam any other security systems. They entered the storage room and saw several electronic crates with their own electronic locks. Martin got to work hacking them while Farilor pulled off his backpack and unzipped it for Martin to put stuff in. John always carried a collapsible duffel bag, so he pulled that out as well. After picking the locks, Martin loaded the bags, along with his own backpack, up with several electronics. John didn't know what the hell they were, but he didn't care. This wasn't his department. John was holding a silenced Dragonfire pistol in his right hand, a combat knife in his left. He walked through the door first. A guard was walking away with his back turned, and John snuck up behind him and pistol whipped him in the side of the head. John caught him before he hit the ground and dragged the knocked out guard back to the storage room to hide him. Afterwards, the men left the storage room and began going back the way they came with Martin in the front.

While Martin's group was successful on their end, Dom and those with him found some equipment, but it was being monitored by a scientist.  Brad moved past Dom without a word, crept up behind the scientist without a sound, and dropped the poor man in a snap.  The scientist was hidden behind a computer terminal while the men scavenged anythin that they found important.  Surprisingly, no other personel were seen.  Then they moved out towards their exit and met up with Martin and the others.
"Let's get out of here fast," said Dom as he deactivated the large fan again and the group left the building.  He turned it back on and then they left the same way that they came, but it took a little more time since they had heavy equipment in backpacks and duffel bags.  Then everyone piled into the van.
"We can drive the van to White's and park in the garage.  He's got a lot of tools, mechanical work is sort of a hobby of his.  I'm sure he's got a few extra rooms, you guys can spend the night," said Miller.
"Sounds good," replied Martin as Dom drove off towards their destination.  They arrived without any issues and unloaded the equipment safely and out of the eyes of anyone who might be watching.  Then White and Martin got to work.
"Thank god I don't have to be out there with that guy," said Farilor after they left earshot of White.  Miller showed them their rooms after White told him which ones were available and everyone relaxed for the rest of the day.

John walked into his room and took his Dragonfire pistols from their holsters, setting them on the workbench. He placed his submachine guns in their places on the wall and began tinting his Dragonfires to make them less shiny. He was all for shiny things, but pistols on a sneaking mission isn't one of them. After they were both tinted, he checked to make sure that he hadn't blocked any necessary movement and began his workout routine. Afterwards, he took a shower and made a microwave meal. He ate it while watching the news, and when he was done, he turned the TV off. He then began working on his other guns, taking them apart and re-constructing them. It wasn't quite out of a desire to make them better, he was just bored, and he liked taking guns apart.

John Miller finished cleaning his weapons and got up from his workbench. He loaded his Dragonfires into his holsters and strapped on his leg holsters before sliding his submachine guns into them. He then slid his combat knife into its usual spot on his back and put on his trenchcoat. He was wearing kevlar, but he doubted he needed it. For three years he had been working independently to track down the notorious Greywood Butcher. And finally, through a bit of a chance, he had found him. Michael Grant, a butcher, was being put on trial for selling meat that was making people sick. John was going to check out Grant's butcher shop. If he found any signs of murder, Grant wouldn't live to see the next day. John walked out of his room and down the stairs to see Farilor sitting in the lobby reading a book.
"Hey, where you off to?" asked Farilor.
"Business, I'll explain later," said John as he walked out the door.
It was early morning, around 4 AM, and John was going to get to Grant's shop before Grant did to get rid of the evidence that was more than likely well hidden.

***

John opened the side door of Grant's Meats to find a work area right outside the meat freezer. Michael wasn't there yet, but he would be soon. John began searching, and after a few minutes, he found a loose tile. Under the tile was a round hole with a ladder going down. John decided to wait for Grant before going down.

***

Grant walked into the butcher shop twenty minutes later and walked into the back room right away, wanting to make certain that his room of horrors was well hidden from the police that would be arriving later that day. He had bribed them, but it couldn't be too obvious. As he walked into the back though, he heard a noise, and turned to see the business end of a Dragonfire pistol in his face.
"Michael Grant...the Greywood Butcher," said John.
"John Miller, I presume?" asked Grant.
John pistol whipped Grant in the nose, breaking it, and Grant stumbled backwards, clutching his face.
"AHHHH! Dammit!"
"Grant, you know where your hole is...crawl down it."
Grant stumbled over to the loose tile, lifted it up, and began crawling down. As he reached the bottom, Miller fired off a silenced shot from his Dragonfire, hitting Grant in the shoulder. Grant fell to the floor, and Miller climbed down the ladder.
"What...what the fuck is wrong with you?" asked Grant.
"I should ask the same...you piece of shit..." said Miller as he looked around the Greywood Butcher's workplace and saw the hanging bodies and body parts of several men, women, and children. Miller knew of over thirty confirmed victims by this man, and a large majority had been young girls. There were many heads mounted on the wall, with "Virgin" written in gold under some of them. Miller began kicking Grant before dragging him over to a table, lifting him onto it, and grabbing a knife.
"You and I are going to have some fun before I kill you, Grant."
Miller began by tearing out Grant's fingernails, followed by his toenails, and his teeth. Afterwards, Miller began sticking needles into the spots where the nails had been ripped out. After he was done with that, he left Grant to stay in pain for a while before pulling down Grant's pants and castrating him with a pair of pliers. Grant was screaming non-stop the entire time.
"They'll find me," breathed Grant, "They'll...they'll...they'll find me!"
"They'll find your body, and I'm hoping they do. Your remains will be a good warning against any other scum doing shit like this!" snarled John before drawing his combat knife. He stabbed in three places around Grant's heart, causing Grant incredible pain in his last moments as he bled out and finally died. Miller took the vial of blood and walked over to the wall. He began writing a message.

Murderers, rapists, psychopaths, and other wicked souls. Let this be a warning against these crimes. If you commit these crimes, I will find you, and I will do to you what I did here today.

John finished writing and climbed up the ladder, leaving the tile open as he walked out the side door and down the street. The police would arrive later that day, and the story would be on the news that night. Hopefully they would display the message.

The van's progress moved along at a quick pace.  Martin and White made very good progress and even finished installing most of the equipment into the van after working through most of the night.  Finally, early in the morning, Martin got Dom, Farilor, and Xarxes gathered by the van.
"Alright, all our work is finally paying off now.  There is enough high quality computer equipment in this van to access the security network while mobile.  It can also do a number of other things, but those are a bit complicated for anyone but Dom," explained Martin as he showed everyone the interior of the van.  There were reinforced metal plates that were installed on the interior of the frame as well as seats bolted to the floor with computers and other technical equipment securely fastened to the van's walls and floor.  Some seats had been removed to make room, but there was enough room for six or seven men to fit inside.
"What is with the inside of the van? The walls look different," said Xarxes after he noticed the change.
"I am glad you noticed.  Those metal plates will keep any other kind of detection device from scanning the inside of the van, but it also amplifies our own signal so that we can scan right back.  Luckily, we stole some of this Typhosia metal at the facility.  I am rather impressed with the small tests I have done," said Martin.
"Let me take a look," said Dom as he climbed into the back of the van and began powering up the equipment.  He worked at some of the consoles for a few minutes before pausing.
"I think this will keep me busy for awhile.  Give me a few hours working with this and I will have most of it figured out.  We still could use another person working with me to double our abilities.  Hugo should be out of the hospital in a day or two.  We should go pick him up now," said Dom.
"I can do that," said Farilor.  As Dom was about to reply, his phone rang.
"Hello?" said Dom as he answered it.
"The enemy is on the move.  Their new weapons are beginning to appear.  Be careful Mr. Kaine.  I am in hiding in the lower levels still and am luckily hidden from the mutated people, but I think that my location has somehow been discovered.  I am not sure if I will be alive much longer, but if I disappear, look for a file in the old subway system," said a female voice before the phone went dead.
"Hello?! Hello!?" shouted Dom into the phone but there was no reply.
"Who was it?" asked Martin, realizing that something was wrong.
"Someone who had contacted me about the kidnapped scientists believes that whatever they have been working on is now done.  She said that the new weapons are being deployed and that I should be careful.  She also said that she is hiding in the lower levels, and she believes that she has been discovered...I don't know what to do," said Dom.
"Can't we rescue her?" asked Xarxes.
"We barely got out of the slums as things were just getting bad.  Picture going back down there after several days of mutants securing everything and killing any resistance left," said Dom.
"Maybe we can think of something soon..." said Martin.  Dom went back to working on the van equipment, hoping to distract himself from the predicament that Helen was in.  Martin went to another part of the hotel to think of ideas while Farilor and Xarxes talked quietly.

John walked into the hotel to see Martin sitting down, he looked troubled.
“What the hell’s wrong with you?” asked John.
“Somebody Dom seems to care about is stuck in the lower levels,” said Martin.
“We can go down and get her, I know a way down,” said John.
“We’ll get slaughtered, we barely got out alive last time.”
“The hell we did, I was able to get through any resistance by myself with my old weapons. We have military grade weaponry now, and there’s no injured weighing us down. We can cut through them like a hot-knife through butter,” said John, “If I knew where she was, I’D go get her right now, or at least try.”
“Miller, there’s thousands of them down there now, they’ve had a good chance to regroup,” explained Martin.
“More to kill. They can use basic tactics, and most of ‘em walk like lumbering idiots. You were out cold while we were down there, it wasn’t as bad as the news makes it out to be,” said John.
“She didn’t state her position, and her number was blocked, we can’t search the whole lower levels.”
“That’s the only problem I can see, let me go talk to Dom. There’s gotta be some way to figure out her number. How long ago was the call?” asked John.
“About twenty minutes ago.”
“Alright…she might still be alive then…I’ll go talk to Dom,” said John before walking off into the garage.
“Dom!” yelled John, “I think we can rescue your girlfriend!”
"Shit! Stop yellin'!" yelled White as he rolled out of the armory.

Dom was busy working on the van equipment when he heard a yell.
"Dom! I think we can rescue your girlfriend!" said the voice.  Dom leaned out of the van and wondered who said it.
"She ain't my f*cking girlfriend so get it right!" he replied as he stepped out of the van and saw Miller.
"Dom, we can go down in the lower levels and save her," said Miller.
"I think it might be too dangerous.  There must be some other way that would be safer," replied Dom.
"I don't think there is a safer way short of blasting through the lower levels in a tank," said John.
"Still, there must be a way to get to the abandoned subway without having to fight through the entire lower levels full of mutants," said Dom persistantly.
"Wait, the subway? You knew where she was?" asked John.
"She told me that was where she would leave a file.  I assumed she would be in the area," replied Dom.
"She could've dropped it there days ago for all we know," said John.
"Still, it is the only lead we have.  Otherwise, we would be risking a fight through all of the lower levels and we cannot carry a hundred pounds of ammo to do that," replied Dom.
"So, the file lead is all you have?" confirmed John.
"Basically...knowing that she is the sister of one of the captured scientists doesn't help us find her," said Dom.
"Well, when do we leave?" asked John
"We don't even know where to start. Maybe I can find a way to the subway that won't involve a mini-war with the mutants and see what that file has on it. Maybe she will be nearby or maybe the file has information that could be useful in finding her," replied Dom.
"Either way, I'm sure a shitload of mutants are going to be dead by tomorrow," said John.
"Quite possibly, but keep in mind that we need to stick together as much as possible and keep everyone alive," replied Dom as he began looking for blueprints of the city on the online networks.  After about ten minutes, Dom found what he was looking for.
"Aha! Found the blueprints.  It looks like there is a sealed off maintenance area that has access to the lower levels.  There is a ladder that leads into the sewers near the subway system.  If we went that way, we could then enter the subway without too much difficulty I imagine," said Dom.
"We'd better take our bigger guns...just in case," suggested John.
"Bigger guns for what?" asked Dom.
"For mutants, or any other possible hostile target," said John, "I want to have an assault rifle with me if we get into a firefight, I like my Dragonfires, but..."
"Well, we certainly weren't going down there unarmed, but I was just curious about what you meant when you said we better take our bigger guns.  I plan on protecting myself as best as I can with the weapons we have," replied Dom.
"Well, I'll tell the men. Is the van ready to take us to the insertion point?" asked John.
"Yeah, it should be fine. We will have to find a hiding spot for it so that no one tries breaking into it while we are in the lower levels," replied Dom.
"Or we could leave White with it, he likes blasting things, don't you White?" asked John.
"I miss it dearly, Johnny!" yelled White from the armory.
"Alright, so White will be left with the van for who knows how long?" replied Dom.
     "White!" yelled John.
     "Yeah Johnny?" asked White.
     "Bring some snacks!" yelled John.
"Alright then...I guess we should leave before it gets any later. Otherwise, we will be down there during the night," replied Dom as he went to grab his weapons.
"Sounds good," said John as he walked off to tell the others. After informing them, he walked to his bedroom, put on his large-weapon harness, and slid his combat shotgun and his assault rifle into it, along with his trusty baseball bat. He already had his kevlar and his other weapons on his person from when he went after Grant. After grabbing spare ammo for both weapons, he walked downstares to the garage and waited for the others.  Meanwhile, Dom went to his room and put on his suit of body armor as well as putting other black clothes on overtop of them.  Then he switched to pants that had more room for ammo and finished off his attire with a black stocking cap since it was cold.  Dom then replaced his Typhosian Repeater for his assault rifle, and he also picked up his warp grenades.  Dom then attached a makeshift strap to his rifle and slung it across his back until he needed it.  Then he holstered his modified Enforcer pistols on his hips and put extra ammo in his pockets on his chest and leg pockets.  Dom then headed to the van where everyone was gathering.
"Let's get ready to go," said Dom.

Within ten minutes, everybody was in the garage armed better than most special forces operatives. White also rolled in with a Kevlar vest on. In his breast holster was a heavily customized Braddock .45 pistol. His wheelchair also had holsters, in one was a sawed-off Rellington pump-action shotgun, in the other was a heavily customized Ieron-8 submachine gun.
“Going to war, White?” asked Farilor.
“If anybody wants this van, they’ll have to get through one dangerous cripple,” said White as he rolled towards the van, “However, it’d be kind if one of you guys could put my wheelchair in there for me.”
“No problem White,” said John.
“Alright, I’ll drive,” said Dom as he got into the driver’s seat.
John and Farilor approached White to help him in, but White made a hand gesture to stop.
“Johnny, you’re forgetting something…”
“No I’m not, I got all the guns I need.”
“Could you stop thinking about guns for a minute you thick-skulled idiot! You keep talking like you’re some sort of corner thug who jacks off to Rifles Weekly! No! You’re going into a dark god-damn tunnel filled with who knows what…now…what the hell do you need?”
“Lots of ammo,” joked John.
“Dammit Johnny!”
“I’m kidding…uhhh…a flashlight?” asked John.
‘Bing-fucking-O! Johnny, you win the game! Over there, on that shelf! I have like…ten of ‘em!”
“What the hell do you have ten flashlights for?” asked John.
“Trust me, you can never have enough flashlights,” said White.
John grabbed six flashlights, put them in a bag, and stuck them in the back of the van.
John and Farilor then helped White get in first, and once he was in and seated in his wheelchair, the others got in. Sam stayed out to open and close the garage, leaving his sniper rifle in the van. He then walked out front, locked the hotel, and jumped in the passenger seat.
“Hey White…what about your customers?” asked Sam.
“Sammy m’boy, I get about one or two customers a week, and nobody’s in there right now. If there was, I’d kick their ass out and give ‘em a refund. I don’t get out much, this’ll probably be the most exciting thing I do all year, besides, I’ve got enough money put a side from my younger days to take care of me for the rest of my life,” laughed White as the van pulled off down the street.

***

Dom and Sam hopped out and locked the front of the van while John, Brad, Farilor, and Xarxes jumped out the back.
“Ummm…White, this could take three to five hours,” said John.
“I have some food in this bag here,” said White patting a full plastic bag that was attached to his wheelchair.
“Well, you can watch TV on one of the computers in there, just be careful not to break something,” said Martin.
“What do you think I am, a technophobe?” Get out of here and go do your job!” yelled White.
John took off his harness, took off his trench-coat and fedora, and threw them in the back of the van, he proceeded to put his harness back on and slid his combat knife into the harness's built in scabbard. He then grabbed the bag of flashlights from the back and looked up as White watched with a grin.
“Your welcome for the flashlights, Johnny!”
John closed the van doors and walked over the open hatch. He threw a flashlight to each of the five other men and looked down the hole.
“Looks inviting, doesn’t it?” asked Farilor.
“About as inviting as an afternoon with White," muttered Xarxes.

Dom looked down the maintenance hatch and couldn't see anything but pure darkness.  Shining his flashlight down into the black hole didn't do much since the bottom was way out of sight.  Dom kicked a nearby rock down the hole and listened.  Almost a minute passed before he heard the sound of it hitting the bottom.
"It seems a little long..." Dom said aloud.
     "No...really?" said Xarxes sarcastically.
"Alright, let's get this over with," said Dom as he attached the flashlight to his belt so that it shined downwards, revealing what was below him.  He then began climbing down slowly since the rungs were a little damp.  Xarxes, Farilor, Sam, Bradley, John, and Martin followed behind Dom.  It took about fifteen minutes for the group to finally near the bottom, but Dom finally saw the bottom.
"I see the bottom just ahead!" said Dom as he reached the ground.  It smelled pretty badly, but nothing horrible enough to make him gag.  He unclipped his flashlight and unslung his assault rifle from his back.  There wasn't much around him and he saw that the ladder led into a large underground cavern.  There was a river of water that flowed between two stone pathways, but Dom knew that the water wasn't exactly healthy to drink.  He aimed his rifle around the area until he was sure that it was clear.  Xarxes reached the bottom a few seconds later and aimed his battle rifle around.
"Pleasant place..." he mumbled as Farilor and Sam followed with an assault rifle and silenced repeater to add to their firepower.  Finally Brad, Miller, and Martin reached the bottom and looked around the place.
"This place looks like sh*t," said Farilor as he finally looked around the place.  Dom duct taped his flashlight to his assault rifle so that he had better use of his weapon and then handed it around to anyone who needed it.  Then the group slowly began to move forward into the unknown darkness.  The group continued moving along the stone walkway until they came to a wall in the sewers.  There was a higher level that Dom guessed was about 10 feet above them where the sewage water ran down onto the level they were currently at.
"Looks like we have to get wet in order to keep going.  Someone give me a boost.  It is the only way to keep moving," said Dom as he grumbled and handed Miller his assault rifle.  Xarxes and Farilor moved up to the wall and boosted Dom up until he could grab the ledge above him.  He pulled himself up and quickly unholstered his pistol and looked around.  A flashlight was tossed up to him and he pointed it down the tunnel to find nothing dangerous in sight.  Dom holstered his pistol and groaned as water ran over his ankles.  He leaned down and grabbed Xarxes by the hand and barely managed to haul the larger man up without being pulled down.  Then the two systematically pulled up everyone else after a small delay and they continued onwards.  Nothing living was seen for awhile until they came to another large cavern and found part of the ceiling collapsed to reveal bent and broken rail.
"Hey, it looks like we are underneath the subway system!" said Xarxes loudly.  Unfortunatley his voice seemed to attract something besides the group members.  Some snarls and growls were heard coming from the shadows ahead of them and a pack of mutants began shambling towards them.  Miller stepped in front of the group and immediately raised his assault rifle to greet them.  He unloaded half a clip into the group and they were cut down like a knife through hot butter.
"Nice work...but it seems that we are finding more living things as we get closer," said Dom.
"Guys, I see a ladder that leads upwards," said Sam as he pointed his flashlight at a distant wall to show them where it was.  They all moved towards it with no more signs of mutants and climbed upwards into the old subway.  Dom was the first person up and immediately found two mutants closing on him.  He drew his pistol and emptied his clip into both of their heads and reloaded before unslinging his assault rifle.  Then the others followed and continued their journey into the subway.  They moved up the tunnel for several minutes before finding an abandoned station.
"Alright, this looks like a good place to hide some evidence.  Look around and see if you can find anything," said Dom as his eye began scanning the area for anything that might be a computer memory file.
"Great...this station is pretty big.  Not sure finding it will be easy," said Xarxes as he began moving around.
"Try to stick in groups of two so that we don't get caught off guard," said Sam as he brought some experience into play.
"I will stick with Martin then," said Dom as he and his old partner began searching more.  Xarxes and Farilor paired up as well as Sam and Brad.  Miller didn't really need anyone to cover him, so he was free to move around carefully.  The others weren't far and could come to his help if needed.

Miller walked around the station, checking under seats and in trash cans, his assault rifle was always ready in case of any sudden attack. However, he soon heard noises from farther up the tunnel, and aimed his assault rifle down the tunnel. Snarls and roars were heard, and Miller turned his head to the other groups.
“We have company!” yelled Miller.
The mutants got within range of Miller’s flashlight and Miller opened fire. The gun was extremely accurate, and produced a solid line of fire rather than the spread Miller was used to with his old assault rifle. This wasn’t quite in advantage, seeing as he was firing on an approaching group of mutants, but it would be handy in the future. The forty rounds in the clip quickly went dry after around twenty-two mutants had fallen. Farilor and Xarxes quickly ran up and added their firepower to Miller’s as Miller reloaded. Brad and Sam quickly followed and opened fire as well. Dom and Martin arrived last, and most of the mutants were already dead. By the end, Miller saw that around fifty mutants had fallen. Miller loaded a fresh clip, and everybody else did the same.
“That’s a lot of mutants,” stated Farilor.
“No shit,” muttered Xarxes.
“Did I mention we found the evidence?” asked Farilor as he held up a large waterproof envelope with “Kaine” written on it.
“Then lets get the hell out of here,” said Miller as he got up, “Lead the way Dom.”

Description: One of John’s few good friends and his current landlord. White was formerly a lieutenant for one of the criminal bosses. His boss became afraid of White, and attempted to have him and his family killed. White’s wife and children were killed, and White was paralyzed from the waist down, but he killed the assassins and survived. John Miller killed White’s old boss for him, and White has been a great ally of Miller’s ever since.

White was currently seated in the van watching the news on the computer.
“Michael Grant, a forty-three year old butcher, was found dead today in the basement of his butcher shop in Greywood. Before dying, he was castrated, tortured, and killed painfully by non other than John Miller. However, upon finding Grant, the police also found several other bodies in the basement; many of which were children. Michael Grant has since been pegged as the Greywood Butcher, a serial killer who, for almost three years, has been murdering young children and women. What we are about to show is gruesome, we recommend those with a week stomach change the channel.”
Several shots of Grant’s body were shown, and White’s eyes went wide.
“Went a little crazy, did you Johnny?”
Pictures of the basement were also shown, and White’s eyes went wider.
“He was a sick bastard anyway…” muttered White.

Dom took the envelope from Farilor and almost laughed when he saw his name on it.
"I wonder what some enemy would say if he saw my name on this..." chuckled Dom as he looked at it.
"Not always a smart move.  Is this lady really that smart?" asked Xarxes and he began to laugh despite the situation.
"Smart enough to sneak up behind your fatass and hold a gun to your head," said a woman's voice behind him.
"Ah sh*t..." said Xarxes after he heard the voice and everyone but him spun around.  Dom saw a familiar face except her face was sunken and looked as if she had not eaten much lately..
"Helen! I thought you wouldn't be here!" said Dom.
"I had to make sure that no one else got that file.  To also make extra sure, I put out a decoy that had a very ingenius virus.  The real file is with me" said Helen.
"Well, we found you...so let's get out of here," said Martin as he heard noises coming from down the tunnel.
"Mutants?" asked Dom as he strained to listen.
"No...this is worse...much worse," replied Helen as she began pushing Xarxes and Dom in the opposite direction.
"I think we need to get the hell out of here guys!" said Brad as he saw mutants heading towards them from the tunnel and they were being gunned down by something they could not yet see.
"Run!" said Dom as he had Helen and the others follow him back the way they came.  They slid down the tunnel in the opposite direction.  Dom reached the ladder first and had Sam lead the way with Helen following.
"Go! Go! Go! I will be in the rear with Brad!" said Dom as he waited until everyone but Miller, Brad, and him were down the ladder.  The three of them looked back up the tunnel and saw a large pack of mutants being gunned down by something with a lot of firepower.  The first thing that came into Dom's head when he saw it was 'spider' but he knew that it wasn't living.
"What the f*ck is that?!" said Dom as he was paralyzed by fear.
"That is what we need to get away from!" said Brad as he pushed Dom to the ladder and down it.  Miller emptied a clip at the approaching thing as it continued mowing down mutants, but the bullets didn't even scratch it.
"Go!" screamed Brad as he unslung his Nova EMP-R from his back and fired at the approaching thing.  Miller slid down the ladder as Brad managed to hold the enemies at bay.  He then slid down the ladder and landed roughly on the ground, but sprinted after the group.  The ceiling seemed to explode downwards and debris was showered everywhere.  Dom spun around and threw one of his grenades as hard as he could.
"Grenade!" he screamed as his warp grenade landed next to the unknown enemy and exploded with a massive shockwave that looked like a bubble made in water.  Brad managed to avoid the blast and kept running as quickly as he could, and then he spun around and fired another clip from his pulse rifle.
"What the hell is that thing!?" screamed Farilor when he saw it.
"An unreal monster...a combination of flesh and metal...a military-grade cyborg," replied Helen as she followed Sam through the sewers.  Mutants were attempting to attack the cyborg but were being thrown in every direction by arms that appeared from its sides.  It looked a spider in the sense that it had multiple legs that it walked upon, but it only had six and two of them were able to move in any direction without hindering movement.  It also had some kind of gun that was mounted on the top that could fire in any direction visible to it.  The cyborg was about seven feet tall and eight feet wide.
The group gave up trying to kill the cyborg and dashed through the sewers until they reached the ten foot drop off.  Sam dropped down first and caught Helen as she followed him.  Everyone else just jumped and rolled when they hit the ground.  Exhaustion was beginning to set in on the group as the sound of fighting grew closer behind them.  Dom was almost hit by the body of a mutant that had been thrown down the tunnel by the cyborg and it splattered against a wall in front of him in a shower of innards.
"Ah! Dammit!" screamed Dom as he wiped the mess off of him as best as he could.  They group finally reached the ladder to the surface, but the cyborg and mutants were getting closer.  Brad turned around once again and raised his pulse rifle.
"I will keep it busy! Go!" he screamed as he fired off his pulse rifle at the cyborg with better results.  One of its free arms suddenly sparked and then exploded violently before falling off.  The group was all of the ladders when Brad finally began climbing as well.  The cyborg jumped and crashed against the wall where the ladder was suspended and Brad grunted as he almost fell off.  He held onto the ladder with one hand and unloaded yet another clip into the top of the cyborg as he thrashed against the wall.  It made some sort of inhuman sound that made his ears hurt, but it reminded him of a scream.  The cyborg then began climbing up the wall using its legs and Brad continued firing at it.
"Keep going everyone!" he screamed as he emptied one of his last clips.
"You ain't going any further you nightmare piece of sh*t!" screamed Brad as he emptied his last clip into the cyborg's head or what looked like the head.  It suddenly fired off two missiles into the ceiling just as Miller had made it out of the line of fire and chunks of rock and debris began raining down on the cyborg and Brad, crushing them both.  When everyone had reached the surface and Brad did not show up, they feared the worse.
"I think he planned on not making it back when he saw that thing..." said Sam as he looked down the hole.
"We need to get out of here before anything else follows us!" said Dom as he closed the hatch and began pulling people towards the van.  Dom pushed Helen into the back of the van and everyone else piled in.
White started yelling and almost blasted Farilor's head off before Dom hopped into the driver's seat and drove the van out of there.  No one gave White any kind of explanation.  They were too terrified and speechless.
"Where is the mutie?" asked White after some silence and Xarxes lost it.
"He is f*cking dead alright?" said Ray as he went back to being silent.  No one spoke for the rest of the drive and they all got out at White's hotel.

John got out last, and noticed that everybody had forgotten about White. John picked up White and put him in a chair outside the van before grabbing White’s wheelchair and setting it down next to him.
“Thanks Johnny,” said White as he lifted himself into the wheelchair.
John and White both went over to where everybody was standing, nobody was saying anything. Finally, Sam broke the silence.
“I knew Brad about as well as anybody could know him. He was my best friend, and we went through quite a bit. I know that he was a brave man, probably the bravest I’ll ever know, and I know that he went down how he would’ve liked: giving his life to save others.”
White had been rolling around the garage over the last few seconds, and he soon came back with a bottle of whiskey and several shot glasses. He poured six drinks, and gave one to each man before rolling back to his position in the circle.
“Thanks White,” said Sam, “To Brad Cunningham!”
The six men drank their shots, and Sam went about making a small memorial in the garage for Brad. Carved into a piece of wood was his name, along with a picture of Sam and Brad from their time in the armed forces together. Everybody soon went off to their respective rooms. Before leaving, John grabbed his coat and fedora from the van. He then went up to his room, took a shower, ate a dinner of soup and bread, and began cleaning his guns while thinking about the man who had just given his life to save his allies.

Dom didn't sleep much that night.  He didn't know if it was because of the inhuman cyborg that was hunting them through the mutant-infested sewers and subway or the death of Bradley Cunningham, the quiet and secretive ex-soldier who had given his life to keep the thing busy.  Either way, he kept waking up with nightmares of their group being hunted down by the thing.  When he woke up in the morning, Dom noticed that Sam looked like he hadn't slept a minute.
"Rough night huh?" asked Dom quietly as he had some breakfast.
"Just isn't the same.  You know, he was a lot more talkative with people he knew and trusted.  I believe the main reason he didn't talk much was because he was the lone survivor of a military operation back during the civil war about five or six years ago.  His entire squad was torn to shreds by artillery and he almost lost his right arm to shrapnel.  Still, he managed to carry about half of his squad to safety with only one arm, but they were all killed by another massive artillery barrage that hit the field hospital while he was getting more of his other squadmates.  Only he survived and was sent to numerous doctors to make sure he hadn't lost his mind.  Surprisingly, he seemed fine except that he was very quiet instead of being loud and boisterous like he used to be.  I was in one of the squads alongside his own and luckily was spared the horrors that he had to deal with," replied Sam with several pauses during the story.
"Really makes me wonder..." sighed Dom.
"The sad thing is that the people we were originally fighting in that civil war were the people we became to believe were right.  That is why we both deserted from the military and began searching for an answer.  We believed that the old leadership of the civil war to overthrow the corrupt government was here, but their location was completely hidden from us.  If they were found, then they would be executed for treason without a minute to waste.  Heck, they most likely would be shot on sight," said Sam.  Farilor and Xarxes also joined the two for breakfast.
"Where is Martin and that lady?" asked Xarxes as he finished his breakfast a short time later.
"Oh yeah! I almost forgot about Helen.  Where did she run off to?" asked Dom as he stood up from the table and began searching around.  He found both her and Martin in the van looking at the contents of the file.
"So, if you look here, you can see that the president was definitely working on a secret project.  That project almost certainly is being worked on by those kidnapped scientists.  There is no other explanation.  He ordered the kidnapping and has them locked away somewhere making those machines and maybe even something worse," explained Helen.
"Do you think the scientists are being kept in the upper levels?" asked Martin as he looked at the data.
"Almost certainly.  If you look here, you can see that they were working on a number of things.  Cloaking devices, cyborgs, androids, new assault rifles and other experimental technology.  Some of the research for these cloaking devices is found here," said Helen as she pointed out other pieces of data.  Martin followed where she pointed and his eyes went wide.
"The Sericco Research Station?! Are you serious? That place is supposed to be abandoned.  Don't tell me that the place is now their secret research location?" asked Martin.
"Sounds like it from the looks of things," said Dom as he peeked over the shoulders of both Martin and Helen.
"We should wait a day so that we can go over this material.  That way, we don't miss anything important," said Martin as he let Dom take his seat.  Sam then walked out in the garage and saw the group in the van.
"Hey, I hope you don't mind but I called one of my young squadmates that I knew from back a few years.  Trustworthy guy," said Sam.
"Who is it?" asked Dom curiously.
"His name is Darius Cullsby.  A rifleman in training for the Typhosian Military.  This kid would throw his life on the line for anyone in his group and had some doubts about the motives of the military and the government.  He was more outspoken than Brad and I, which is why he got in a lot of trouble for it more than once.  Last time I checked a few months ago, he was back to being at a recruit rank.  I am sure he wouldn't mind doing something right for once," explained Sam.
"Have him meet you at a neutral location.  I am sure Miller and White don't want this hotel discovered somehow," replied Dom.
"Alright, I will take care of it," said Sam as he left the garage.
"I will work on finding another man to help us out here.  The more people working with us, the better," said Martin as he also left the garage.
"So, do you think we can do anything to stop this mess from getting worse?" asked Dom.
"I'm not sure...there is too much going on," replied Helen.
"So what is your real name? I couldn't find any information about you when I searched," asked Dom.
"You wouldn't since I erased my identity.  I have no name now," replied Helen cleverly.  Dom frowned and thought of someway to retaliate.
"How about you go get some food? If you get any skinnier, your clothes will fall off," he said before walking off.  Helen glared at Dom as he left as if she wished her eyes could burn holes in him.

John had been listening to their conversation from outside the garage, and when Dom walked out, John was leaning against a wall.

"I know a few people that could help us too. Good, honest guys, I trust 'em," said John.

"Sounds good, just make sure you meet them away from any of our secret locations first.  Just a safety thing," replied Dom.

"Of course," said John.

Dom walked off towards his room, and John did the same. He put on a Kevlar vest under his shirt and put on his trenchcoat. He then put on his brown fedora and strapped on his leg-holsters. He slid his submachine guns into them before closing up his jacket. He then picked up his cell phone and dialed a number.
“Hello Mr. Harrison,” said John, using a voice disguising gadget.
“Who is this?” asked Harrison.
“An old friend, meet me on the fiftieth floor of Borton Tower in an hour, go to the men’s bathroom, come alone,” said John.

John entered the bathroom and quickly checked all the stalls thoroughly to make sure nobody else was inside. He also scanned the bathroom for electronic bugs and other devices using a gadget that Martin had given him. Afterwards, he hopped into a stall and began waiting.
Not long after, Harrison walked into the bathroom, a pistol in his hand and at the ready. He looked under each of the stalls, and upon looking under Miller’s, Miller bent down and pointed his Dragonfire at Harrison’s head.
“Frank, relax,” said John.

“John?” asked Harrison as he stepped back and holstered his pistol in his jacket, “What the hell?”
John opened the door and stepped out of the stall, getting a look at Harrison. He had a brown mustache, short hair, and a large frame. He was around 6'4", and looked like he could knock out a gorilla.
Harrison, still want to get back at the government for what happened to you and your brother?” asked John.
“John, I got my revenge, I’m not a vigilante anymore,” said Frank.
Francis “Frank” Harrison had formerly been a factory worker employed by Gregon Industries. His brother, however, had been working for one of the low-level bosses. Brian Harrison had, however, made a mistake on a job that got two men killed. As a result, Brian had been tortured to death by his boss. When Frank found out, he immediately set out to kill Gary Ericson, Brian’s old boss. He did it in public, with a knife-stab to Ericson’s chest. It attracted attention, but Frank escaped. A few days later, police officers busted into Frank’s home and arrested him. Frank got out of prison five years later was now working as a waiter at a restaurant.
“This is bigger than killing some people, Frank, me and a few friends of mine discovered something big. You heard about those kidnapped scientists?” asked John.
“Yeah, what about ‘em?” asked Frank.
“Our own government kidnapped them, they’re having them work on some sort of cyborg project. They want to make fucking war machines,” explained John, “I bet it won’t be long until we got cyborgs walking around disguised as people, watching your every damn move.”
“Are you sure about this? You got hard evidence?” asked Frank.
“Concrete, she’s got pictures. This thing is being run by the President,” said John.
“Do you think you guys can bring him down?” asked Frank.
“I’m sure as hell going to try,” promised John.
“Then I’m in. It’s about time the criminals running this city got thrown the hell out,” said Frank, “If you need me, call, alright John?”
“Alright,” said John before Frank left the bathroom, John followed a couple minutes later.

John approached the house of Marcus Wilde, a young man he had known for around ten years. The house was small, but Wilde didn’t care much for space. On the way in, John spotted several cameras. He reached the front door and knocked, the door cracked open.
“Who is it?”
“Your old pal John,” said John.
“John Miller?” asked Wilde as he opened the door, “Never thought I’d see you again after what they’ve been saying on the news.”
“Can I come in?” asked John.
“Yeah, yeah, of course,” said Wilde as he opened the door and gestured inside.
John followed him, closed the door, and looked around. The one room had a bed, a large computer desk with several monitors, and a small kitchen. A door led to the only other room: his bathroom. He had no TV because he watched TV on his computer. Marcus himself was around 6', skinny, and typically wore jeans and a button-up shirt. He had long red hair and a bit of facial hair on his chin.
“What you up to these days?” asked John.
“The usual: cyber-terrorizing the corrupt government with them having no idea who does it,” said Wilde, “Why’d you come here?”
“Well, me and a couple good friends are uncovering something big…the kidnapped scientists…”
“…were kidnapped by President Pallace and are currently being used to develop cyborgs and super soldiers for the government. They are working on cloaking technology at Sericco research station, and are developing the cybernetics for the cyborgs and the super soldiers at Grunaldo Research Station on Grunaldo Island,” said Wilde.
“Well, I didn’t know about Grunaldo,” said John.
“I’m guessing you came here to ask for my help. Don’t worry, you’ve got it John. Not good with guns, but I’ll get you your intel,” pledged Wilde.
“After hearing about what you have so far, I believe you,” said John.
“Hand me your phone,” said Wilde.
John gave Wilde his phone, and Wilde began typing. After around thirty seconds, he handed the phone back.
“My number’s in there,” said Wilde.
“Thanks, I’ll see you later, then,” said John before walking outside and towards the subway with the intention of going back to White’s hotel.

Clothing: Black shirt with khaki pants and black jacket
Other: Sam is an ex-Typhosian military scout and sniper.  A highly trained soldier in the art of infiltration and reconaissance.

Sam walked into a small park that sat atop a middle level building and sat down on a bench.  He sighed and listened to the sounds of birds and insects that had made the park their refuge from the rest of the city.  A half dozen other people were walking around the park and talking quietly, but Sam ignored them for the most part except for making sure that they weren't hostiles.  Then a lone man walked into the park, looked around for a moment, sighed, and then sat down next to Sam.
"It's been awhile hasn't it?" asked the man.
     "Yeah...way too long," replied Sam.
"So how did Brad bite it?" asked Darius Cullsby.  He was a handsome young guy who looked to be about 27 with blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Those government guys got him..." replied Sam quietly.
"I shoulda known...no one coulda killed him in a straight up fight," replied Darius.
"So, will you help me make sure that his death was not in vain?" asked Sam.
"Oh yeah...they'll pay for that.  Just let me at 'em," said Darius.  Sam smiled and began talking to Darius for awhile longer.  He had to make sure that the kid was really a good choice so that he wouldn't regret it later.  Sam quizzed Darius, gave trick questions, and tried to make him slip up in some way, but nothing made him seem like an enemy.  Then Sam escorted Darius to a nearby train and they began the trip back to the hotel.

Name: Martin Deallus
Weapons: 2 Golan Semi-automatic pistols
Stored:  Typhosian Carbine Rifle(TCR-3), Carbonik Auto Shotgun, Michvaun Anti-Armor System
Clothing: Grey t-shirt, blue jeans, brown jacket
Other: Martin is an ex-government spy who wants revenge against the government for abandoning him in the slums.

Since Martin had been a spy for the government, he knew which people were 'trustworthy' or not.  The 'untrustworthy' people were those that were against the corruption in the eyes of his old superiors.  Now, Martin knew that those people were the most likely to aid him.  Jonathan Sorg was a police officer that had always tried his best to do the right thing, but unfortunately this attracted the attention of his superiors.  The subtle offers of money in return for overlooking certain crimes were rejected, and eventually Jonathan was thrown behind a desk to work off of the streets.  It frustrated him.  Frustrated, annoyed, and angered him to no end.  He knew about the corruption, but Jonathan also needed a job to feed his family.  The government knew this and tried to exploit it, the officer had managed to keep them out of the picture by sending them to live with his parents far away in the country.
Jonathan was heading home one night and walked up to the door of his small home.  When he flicked on the lights, he found a man sitting in his chair facing the door.
     "Jon, just relax," said Martin.
"I am guessing you are probably here to kill me huh?" asked Jon as he already saw that Martin had his gun out.
"Actually, it is the exact opposite.  You see, maybe a week ago I probably would be here to kill you but not anymore.  I need your help.  Close the door behind you and promise me that you won't try shooting me so that I can put this gun away," replied Martin.  Jon closed the door behind him and took a deep breath.
"Promise me that you won't shoot me after I let my guard down," said Jon as he walked over to a cupboard and pulled out a bottle of scotch, poured himself a drink, and gulped it down.
"Relaxed a little bit more now?" asked Martin as he walked over to Jon and handed him his gun.
"Alright, I trust that you aren't here to kill me now.  Tell me what you want with me," replied Jon.
"Well, in the past few days I have been betrayed by my supposed superiors and left for dead.  I also have found out that the government is making all sorts of high grade weaponry and I have even seen a cyborg.  This isn't a joke.  I am now part of a group of people who are fighting to end this corruption once and for all.  I came to you because when I was still a spy, I knew that you were untrustworthy because you were against it.  Now, I know that you are a person I can trust to help us," explained Martin.  Jon listened and then poured himself another drink.
"Looks like I need another drink to help me process that.  So things are worse than I have ever imagined..." said Jon quietly.
"Much worse...just yesterday we lost a good guy to that cyborg I mentioned.  An ex-soldier who was fighting for what was really right, not what his superiors told him to do.  I don't want that man to have died just for the hell of it.  Jon, I want you to consider my words and call me back when you make up your mind.  Also, if you have anyone else that you think would be good to consider, let me know," replied Martin.  Jon handed Martin's gun back and then was handed a scrap of paper with a number on it.
"Alright, I will let you know tomorrow.  Will take me a few hours to think things through," replied Jon.  Martin shook his hand and then left the house quietly.  Then he headed back to the hotel.

Dom borrowed the van for a couple hours as he drove around the city.  He moved to just outside of the city limits and took a deep breath when he saw nature for the first time in awhile.  There were not many green plants inside the city unless they were in a small park.  Outside of the city was a green paradise.  Surprisingly, pollution had been kept within the city and left nature to thrive at least to a certain extent.  There were a scattered number of cabins that Dom had known of that were very close to the city.  They also attracted very little attention from the government since they were not within their sphere of control.  Dom drove the van to the edge of the great Nargessian Forest and found what he was looking for.  It was a nice cabin that was for sale.  It was not the kind of cabin that a person would see in an old exhibit, but one that was used for rich people to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  It looked like it was made of beautiful wooden logs, but it was really a metallic copy that was so close to the real thing that it even smelled of fresh wood.  Engineers really worked hard to make art like this.  Dom walked inside and found the person who had been trying to sell it.  He was an old man in his late 70s who Dom knew very well.
"Hello Matt," said Dom as he entered the house.  Matthew Boson looked up from a small wooden sculpture that he was working on and smiled.
"Well, if it isn't little Dominic.  How have you been? It has been...five or six years since your pop passed away hasn't it?" asked the elderly man.
"Yeah, I am glad that you have been taking care of his place so well.  Listen, I have need of this cabin now.  It isn't really for something legal, so I hope you don't mind," said Dom sheepishly.
"Now Dom, I know that your dad raised you well.  What is this you are saying about illegal stuff?" asked Matt.
"Well, the corruption of the city is becoming so bad that things are falling apart.  The entire lower sections of the city have become abandoned and overrun by things that you would only see in horror movies.  The police are letting criminals walk free and they are arresting people that the government doesn't like.  Dad wouldn't have wanted me to be supporting such things.  He would do what he thought was right.  Myself and a group of people that I trust are working to stop this corruption.  I hope that I can count on you to help me with that.  If you don't want to risk your life, I understand.  This is dangerous work," explained Dom.
"I am surprised it took you this long to see the slime underneath the gloss and glitter kiddo.  Your dad was one of the finest detectives in the city, but you know why he always seemed to be scraping for credits? Because the police had him so closely watched that he could never get ahead.  I think that I could help you with this place here.  I also have some other ideas I can talk with you later.  Just let your friends know that they can use this place as much as they want.  Your father would have wanted it," replied Matt with a smile.  Dom gave the old man a hug and thanked him once again before heading back to the hotel.

John walked into the hotel to see White sitting in the lobby watching TV.
“How was your little recruitment drive?’ asked White.
“It went well? How was your time sitting all day?” asked John.
“Never better now that I’m harboring a fugitive,” said White.
John laughed and walked upstairs to his bedroom, where he took off his trench coat and put it on his coat rack. He took off his boots and his socks, took off his leg holsters, and put the submachine guns and the holsters in their usual position. He then ate a TV dinner and took a shower before going to sleep with one of his Dragonfires under his pillow and the other on his nightstand.

Dom, Sam, and Martin all met together later that night and talked over the people they had spoken to.
"I will pick up Darius Cullsby tomorrow morning.  He wanted to get some things together before heading anywhere else," said Sam.
"I am hoping to get one or more police officers to join our ranks.  They are tired of the corruption and their families being threatened," added Martin.
"Well, I got us the location of a new headquarters.  My dad had some good friends while he was alive," also added Dom.  The three of them talked about a few more things before going to sleep.

John Miller got up and looked around. Seeing nothing unusual, he got up from his bed, put on his double breast holster, and grabbed his Dragonfires from their positions near his bed. He slid both into his holsters and walked over to his small kitchen. After eating breakfast, he put on a hooded sweatshirt along with his brown leather jacket. Under his jacket were the breast holsters, and he also put on his leg holsters as usual. Once he slid the SMGs into the leg holsters, he took his ancient PDA from his counter, not having updated it in a while. He updated it with every bit of intel he had on criminals, but strategically left the information regarding what he knew about the scientists out, along with information relating to White, Dom, or any of the others. He didn't need to record that, he had a good enough memory. He then began thinking. If this operation was to be successful, Dom and John would need to split into two groups. If one was taken down, the other would live on. He would obviously need a van for his group, along with some sort of computer. An old laptop would be ideal, the new ones were faster and more powerful, but their contents, just like on the newer PDAs, could be read by the government due to an integrated update. On the new ones, it was impossible to remove, on the old ones it was an easy-to-remove update. John would have to look around a bit, the old ones were very hard to find for obvious reasons. John still had his CredBank card in his wallet, and it was loaded due to the large pile of paper money he had acquired from the pawn shop money laundering building in the lower levels. John put on the aviator sunglasses, lifted up his hood, and walked down to the lobby.
"Johnny, I have to say, looking like that you're probably going to be more suspicious than you would be usually..." said White.
"I'm going to be talking with a few untrustworthy people up close," said John.
"Whatever..."
John walked outside and towards the subway.

***

"Hey man! This is worth at least five grand!" exclaimed the seller, "New tires! New rims! New battery! Hell, new everything!"
The van was red, it looked nice, and under the hood it looked good except for the obvious crack in the radiator and the fact that several tubes were missing.
"This is a great van, man! Good for...uhhh...whatever the hell you wanna do!"
"No interested..." said John as he walked away.

***

John eventually, after several hours, bought a decent black van. It was expensive, but John had money to spare. It was similar to Martin's in that it had only the front window's. He drove to a nearby electronics store and bought a new pay-as-you-go phone. He charged it up with five hundred credits and called a few pawn shops. He soon found one that carried a laptop made before the updates, drove to the pawn shop, and bought it. He took a complex route to White's hotel, making sure to lose any possible tails before calling White.
"Open the gate and the garage," said John simply before hanging up.
John soon reached the hotel, drove through the open gate, and pulled his black van into White's two-car garage, alongside Martin's gray van. He jumped out to see Farilor and Sam standing around the garage.
"I think John's a copy-cat," said Sam.
"A van is the best thing for what we're doing," said John as he pulled the laptop bag containing the laptop, the power cord, several discs, a few tools, and a mouse off the passenger seat.
"Bought a computer too, huh?" asked Farilor, "Did you get one from before the up-"
"-dates? Yeah," interupted John.
He didn't have to worry about White having internet access, access for the mid-levels and the upper-levels was provided by the government. He had to make a few modifications though in order to make sure that the government couldn't detect the missing update. Once he got back to his room, he began working on the laptop.

Dom woke up early the next morning and went through the armory for a few hours and did an inventory on everything there. Then he went to find Miller and talk to him about something that was on his mind. Dom knocked on Miller's door and it was opened a second later.
"Hey Dom, what's going on?" asked Miller when he saw the familiar face.
"Pretty good, but I need to talk to you about something quickly," replied Dom. Miller opened up the door a little and offered Dom a seat.
"Alright, go ahead then," said Miller.
"Well, since our group is growing in numbers, I think that splitting up is a good idea. It would be me, Martin, Sam, Helen, and anyone they have recruited," replied Dom.
"What about Xarxes and Farilor?" asked Miller.
"You need a few extra men, so I'll give Farilor and Xarxes to your group," explained Dom.
"Alright then, do you have a safehouse to use as your headquarters?" asked Miller.
"Ah, well then I have found a place just outside the city in the Nargessian forest. My father had a good friend who took care of it and he is willing to help us out. That will be my headquarters. I saw your new van in the garage so I guess I don't need to discuss that much," replied Dom.
"I was working on a few upgrades for it when you knocked," said Miller.
"I think that we can gather our things by tonight or tomorrow morning and set out. Then we can work on communications between our two little bases and see how things work out. After that, we can see about moving forward," replied Dom.
"Sounds fine to me, if you need something, ask White. He doesn't have anything better to do," said Miller.
"I think I will let Farilor or Xarxes work with him," joked Dom as he stepped out of the room. Miller then closed the door after him. Dom went to the kitchen and explained the situation to Sam, Martin, and Helen when he saw them. Then they began packing with help from Farilor and Xarxes. After they finished packing, Dom pulled Farilor and Xarxes aside and explained the split to them.
"You'll be working under Miller, that alright with you guys?" asked Dom.
"Sounds fine to me," said Farilor.
"I'm cool with it," said Xarxes.
"Alright, we'll be leaving soon," said Dom.
Farilor and Xarxes said their farewells to Dom's group, as they probably wouldn't have time later.

Dom, Martin, Sam, and Helen soon left White's hotel, leaving only John, Farilor, Xarxes, and White inside. When Dom's group had left, John sat down with Farilor and Xarxes.
"Alright, haven't spoken to you guys much in the past. I guess I'll tell you a little about myself. I'm John Miller, I'm thirty-two years old. My parents were Robert and Susan Miller. My father was shot dead during a bank robbery when I was ten, my mother was ran over during a car chase when I was fifteen. I joined the police force when I was twenty, I started my vigilante activities when I was twenty-three with a man named Lawrence Carter. Carter was shot to hell with a submachine gun during one of our vigilante activities when I was twenty-seven. I worked alone until I met Dom a while back," said Miller, "And...well...that's about it."
"Well...thanks for telling us. I'm twenty-six, I was in the police academy at nineteen, but I got kicked out. I worked a number of jobs until Dom hired me not too long ago...and now I lost that job because of a mutant uprising. I'm just not destined to keep a job, am I?" laughed Xarxes.
"Well, I'm twenty-two, I was in the army from the age of eighteen to the age of twenty-one. Then I held a job working as a bartender for about a year, got bored of that...wanted some excitement. I joined up with Dom...and that went to hell. I'm getting plenty of excitement though!" said Farilor.
"Well, good. Now we know each other. I guess we'd better get working on the van," said John as he got up.
John, Farilor, Xarxes, and White all proceded to begin working on the van for the next several hours.

Dom drove the van out of the garage that had been its home since it was bought.  Martin sat in the back of the van with Sam and they had Helen teach them about the basics of the equipment.
"...so when you want to check to see if you are being tailed, you can put an electronic tracer on the computer in the other vehicle and see if it is keeping with you.  It shows up as a greenish color on the screen here," said Helen as she pointed at the real-time video on the screen in front of her.
"Wow, that is insane! That mean we can check to see if someone follows us from right outside of the hotel to our new HQ.  If they do follow us, it means that we might be followed or it might just be coincidence, but I am sure there cant be many people on this route," said Sam as he realized how powerful technology was outside of the military.
"Not used to this kind of gear Sam?" asked Martin.
"Well, I am used to technology since all soldiers have a kind of cybernetic armor and a fully functioning heads-up-display that targets allies and enemies, but I did not expect this kind of stuff outside of the military.  I would have thought it would be exclusive, but I guess I should have expected this since we stole it from a facility.
"That is probably the biggest explanation.  The other is that the government is also arming itself with high-tech equipment in order to maintain its grip over everyone," said Helen.  Dom continued driving the van through the city and then to the outskirts as the others curiously checked to see if they were being followed.  They were not.  Dom parked the van at their new headquarters, and they were surprised to see that it was a cabin of some sort.  Matt Boson was sitting on the porch of the cabin with a cup of something in one hand and a book in the other.
"Howdy!" he said as they walked up to the porch of the cabin.
"Alright, I haven't told anyone who you are yet, so you should introduce yourself," said Dom.  Matt stood up and put down his cup that held some kind of tea and he looked at the others.
"My name is Matthew Daniel Boson, former detective of the Kaine Detective Agency under the command of detective Timothy Kaine.  I am now acting as the head owner of this home of yours and fellow comrade," said Matt.
"Well, I guess I should introduce myself.  I am Martin Andrew Deallus, former agent for the Pallace government and now accomplice to Dominic Kaine.  I was recruited at a young age to be a spy and then those bastards went and ditched me in the lower levels when mutants began overrunning the place," said Martin.
"My name is Samual Frazier DeVoire, former scout and sniper for the Typhosian Military Forces.  I left the military because it was so corrupt that I couldn't even get out of the non-commissioned ranks, so I gave up and then began working on a way to end the corruption before meeting the people from here," said Sam.
"I am Rachel Jameson, the sister of the scientist named Michael Jameson who was kidnapped by Pallace most likely.  I guess my reasons for being here are obvious now.  I am a hacker by nature but have also been known for getting information out of people through certain uses of torture," said the mysterious woman who finally revealed her true name.
"Sounds like an interesting group ya got here Dominic.  Planning on bringing in anymore people? We are kinda small in numbers right now," said Matt.
"Yeah, but first we need to unload the van into the cabin," said Dom as he hopped down the stairs and began carrying guns into the house wherever Matt wanted them put.  The place was very comfortable with over half a dozen bedrooms and several sitting rooms.  Sam and Martin whistled as they entered the place that was fit for a king.  Then Dom met with everyone after they finished working.
"Alright, it is time to pick up the new guys.  Martin, can you and Sam take care of it? I want to work on setting up things here," said Dom.
"Sure thing, it shouldn't take too long," said Martin.  Sam waved as he left the cabin with Martin and the two drove off into the city again.

John and the others finally completed the upgrades to their van. It wasn't much compared to the van that Dom's group used in terms of technology, but the upgrades would allow them to keep a good speed. The handling was also better. They would have to do another raid on a tech lab in order to get technology for the van, and they'd have to get a tech specialist first. Wilde wouldn't cut it as he probably wouldn't want to go and get shot at. It didn't matter, they didn't need the Gray Raider's car.

As they examined their work, John turned to Farilor and Xarxes.
"So, who's up for a little vigilante activity?" asked John.
"Count me in," said Farilor.
"Hell yeah," agreed Xarxes.

***

On the way to their destination, John stopped off and picked up Frank Harrison from his home in the mid-levels of town.
"Boys, this is Frank Harrison, a badass son-of-a-bitch," said John as Frank jumped in the passenger seat.
"Hi Frank," said Farilor in a monotone manner that was meant to be funny.
"Ray Xarxes," introduced Xarxes.
"Gerald Farilor," said Farilor.
"So, we gonna go bust some heads?" asked Harrison.
"Hell yeah, you got a gun?" asked John.
"Just a pistol," replied Harrison.
"We got a couple spare guns in the back, don't worry," said John.

***

John also stopped by Marcus Wilde's house, having given him a call on the way. John would need a decent tech specialist for the job he had in mind, and they'd make sure to kill the guards before bringing Wilde in.

***

The four men jumped out of the van, all wearing ski-masks and black clothing. John and Frank ran to the back door of Jomoro Accounting and John used a gadget to pick the electronic lock. The door slid open and the four men rushed in. In the front, Ray and Gerald both went through the front door and opened fire on the guards in the front. In the back, there were several machines, all used to electronically launder money, there was also several guards who had been half-asleep from the lack of any excitement. They got up, reaching their hands towards their holsters, but all were shot almost instantly by John and Frank, both using silenced weapons. They cleared the building and made sure that no alarms had been activated. Afterwards, they called in Wilde, who got to work on hacking the money laundering devices. After around a minute, several hundred thousand credits were added to a blank CredCard. The vigilantes took the weapons and ammo of the fallen guards, loaded them in the back of the van, and drove off.
"I don't think we'll need ANY funds for a while," said John.
"Not sure if this is right, it's stealing," said Harrison.
"Which is why we'll donate most of it to some worthy charity," agreed John, "There was more than enough in there to go around though, and THIS is what will really piss 'em off."
The van drove off through the streets, back towards White's hotel.

Dom worked with Matt and Rachel on setting up communications with Miller and White while the others were out recruiting.  They had to setup a secure communications channel that was unable to be listened in on.  This idea was not easy though.  Anyone with very high knowledge in the area of espionage or hacking could find a way to hack anything.  The government most likely had over two dozen experienced hackers and spies working on its budget.  This brought up the need for something much more unique that would not be known to a typical hacker.  Rachel and Dom worked for quite a few hours on setting up a special network that required very little energy so that it was almost invisible.  The network would be turned off when communications were not being transmitted so that it would not be noticed by any observers looking for something that isn't normally there.  Before Dom and Rachel could finish, Sam and Martin arrived back at the cabin with several new faces.
"Dom, this man is Darius Cullsby," said Sam as he motioned to a young blonde haired man.
"So, this is the soldier that you talked about before?" asked Dom.
"Yes it is and I am damn proud of having him with us," replied Sam.  Darius smiled when Sam talked about him and then shook Dom's hand when it was offered.
"Nice to be aboard here sir," said Darius.
"No need to call me sir.  Dom works just fine," replied the detective.  Martin motioned to two younger men next to him.
"These two men are Jonathan Sorg and Kevin Masters.  Both were officers for the police force before being held down so much that they couldn't accomplish anything.  Both are good men to have with us," said Martin.  Jonathan Sorg was a man in his late twenties with brown-haired and brown eyes.  He was very slim but also looked like he could handle himself in a fight.  Kevin Masters had blonde hair and blue eyes like Darius, but he was more slim than the young soldier and with gold-framed glasses.
"Sorg was a normal patrol officer and Masters was one of our technical officers that was used for jamming communications before raids on gun and drug dealers.  Pretty good in the field when he has the right toys at his disposal," added Martin.  Dom stepped forward and shook both of their hands firmly.
"Nice to see two more new faces here.  Glad that you guys are willing to help us out," said Dom with a smile.
"My family is safely off of the planet, so I am willing to take the risks," replied Jonathan Sorg.
"I don't have a family, so I only have to worry about myself," added Kevin Masters.
"Then it is settled...welcome to the anti-government resistance," said Dom.  Then a familiar face came in the door quietly but with a wide grin on his face.  Hugo Anderson walked into the group of people and threw an arm around Dom's neck before attempting to give him a 'noogie.'  Dom replied by flipping Hugo onto his back.
"Nice to see you back Hugo," laughed Dom.
"Nice....to see ya Mister K," replied Hugo as he tried to catch his breath.
"Well, I guess these guys will need a tour.  Matt, do you think you can take care of them?" asked Dom.
"Sure thing.  Alright you guys, follow me," replied Matt as he began making up history about the cabin.  Dom and Rachel went back to working on the communications network with Martin's added help.

John pulled the van into the garage and White closed the garage. John, Frank, Ray, and Gerald all jumped out.
“How’d it go, Johnny?” asked White.

“It went well, we have funds,” reported John.
“Good, but we need some recruits if we’re going to really up our chances of success,” said White.
“Of course, we’ll work on that tomorrow. For now, you guys should some sleep,” said John
“I’m going to head home then, take the subway,” said Frank.
“That’s fine, I’ll see you later,” said John, “Good job everybody.”
John turned and left the garage. He walked up to his bedroom and began cleaning his guns. Afterwards, he took a shower and began getting dressed.
BOOM!
There was an explosion coming from the entrance to the hotel. John recognized the sound, it was a breaching charge.
Shit! They found us!
John wasted no time in grabbing an assault rifle from the wall and putting on a Kevlar vest. He activated the defenses on his laptop, which was claymore placed in the cavity in his desk, below his laptop. It would explode if the laptop was moved, and he hadn’t uploaded much onto anyway. His PDA, however, had a lot on it, and it was in his right cargo pant pocket. He opened his door and peeked around the corner, only to nearly get his head blown off by submachine gun fire. John ran over to his shelves, grabbed several grenades, and threw one around the corner, down towards the lobby.
“Grenade!” cried one of the men as the small device exploded into an uncountable number of small fragments. Most of the enemies had gotten behind cover, but one hadn’t reacted fast enough, and John saw his body clearly as he ran down the hall with his rifle at the ready. Farilor and Xarxes jumped out of their rooms and followed John as he threw another grenade into the lobby.
BOOM!
Right after the grenade exploded, they entered the room and stormed the enemies. However, the enemies were no longer in the lobby. Out front were several police cruisers with cops stationed securely behind them, their weapons aimed at the hotel. Suddenly, a window broke, and an explosion struck a wall near John. John flew into the opposite wall, the right side of his body mangled and maimed, his left leg mauled, and his right leg was almost entirely gone. However, John was still alive, barely.
“John!” roared Farilor and Xarxes as they opened fire on the men outside. John’s shaking left hand reached towards his tattered and mauled left leg, attempting to grab his cell phone from his no longer intact cargo pants, but he realized that his left leg was destroyed. It didn’t hurt much. Was he in shock?

White had done well in making the front of the hotel bullet proof, but the situation looked grim. John Miller, their new leader, had just been mortally wounded by a grenade launcher, and the hotel was surrounded. Suddenly, shots rang out, and down the street, from two directions, came men wearing ski-masks and Kevlar vests, and holding assault rifles. They were firing on the cops, pumping full of lead. The twenty or so flanked cops were mercilessly cut down in around thirty seconds. More would soon arrive, but they didn’t need much time. The one who appeared to be their leader ran into the hotel with two men and looked at John.
“John!” he roared as he ran over to John’s body. It was too late, John Miller, fugitive from the law and vigilante was dead. His blood was a puddle around him, and Farilor could see his ribs and the bones of his left leg. His right leg was gone all the way up to his thighs. His face was shredded, but he could not see the skull. The leader got up, and watched as a heavily armored van crashed through the cop cars outside. The van was painted to look like a police SWAT van, but it was actually the getaway car of the men who had saved Farilor, Xarxes, and White.
“C’mon,” said the man as he walked out the front door.
Farilor tried to grab John's body, but the man turned and stopped him.
"He's dead, leave his body," said the man.
“Wait, White!” yelled Xarxes as he ran back and into White’s room. White was aiming his shotgun at the door, and was in his wheelchair.
“Holy shit!” yelled White.
“John's dead, we’re leaving!” yelled Xarxes as he pushed White out his door and out onto the street in front of the hotel.
"Wait, Johnny's dead?" asked White.
"I can't believe it either," muttered Xarxes.

Within twenty seconds, White was loaded in the van along with everybody else, and the van was off.

As the van pulled through the streets, the leader who had saved them pulled off his ski-mask. He looked to be in his early fifties, and he had several prominent scars on his face. He had a rough gray beard, and his hair was cut short.
“I am Lawrence Carter, I was a friend of John's," said Carter.

16:59:46 Jan 29th 10 - King Charley Deallus V:

Name: Dominic Kaine
Weapons: Typhosian Assault Rifle(TAR-9), 2 Modified Enforcer pistols and Warp Grenades
Stored: Compact Typhosian Repeater, Golan EMP Mine
Clothing: Body armor, black long sleeved shirt, dark cargo pants, black stocking cap.
Other: Dom is a good detective wanting to clean up corruption. He has a cybernetic left eye that helps him in his job.

Dom and Martin finished the communications network not much later and sat back to take a break.
"Well, do you think we should call up Miller and see how things work on his end?" asked Martin.
"We didn't make this thing for our personal entertainment.  Let me call him," replied Dom as he pulled out his phone.  He dialed in the number he knew from memory, but was only slightly surprised when a recorded voice said that the number was no longer available.
"Can't get him or something?" asked Martin.
"Nah...maybe he changed to a new phone and will call us later when he is ready to talk?" replied Dom.
"Could be...well, let's see if there is anything else we can work on until he calls," said Martin.
"Yeah, probably a good idea," replied Dom.  The two men worked on various small tasks around the cabin while the new members were filled in on information by Sam and Matt.  Several hours later, Dom and Martin began to let their minds wander a bit.
"I wonder what is taking Miller so long? Usually he calls us once a day to check up on things," said Dom.
"Maybe he will just call tomorrow.  Things happen and maybe something must be going on," replied Martin.
"Yeah...I guess you are right.  Let's just keep busy for a bit longer and then see if he calls later or tomorrow," said Dom.  The two worked on other projects around that cabin that included making one of the rooms into a small armory, and working on trying to get a kind of security system going around the house.  They didn't finish by the time they went to sleep, but Dom could not help but wonder why something was pulling on the edge of his mind.  Something seemed wrong, but he could not seem to put his finger on it.  Martin had a similar feeling because of his time as a spy.  He still was in the dark like Dom. The next morning, there was still no call.
"Alright, maybe we should call someone else.  What about Gerald or Ray?" asked Martin.  Dom poured himself a cup of coffee while Matt worked on making some toast.
"Yeah...I guess we do have their numbers.  Let's call Ray," replied Dom.  He pulled out his phone again and typed in Ray Xarxes' number and waited for someone to pick up.

18:19:11 Jan 29th 10 - Emperor Gaius Septimus Cidellus:

Name: Ray Xarxes

Carried
-Braddock .45 pistol
-K-75 Assault rifle.
-Combat knife
-Frag grenades

Clothing: Gray jacket, jeans, black shirt, brown shoes.
Description: Former detective of Kaine Detective Agency, now working to rescue scientists and bring an end to corruption.

The drive in Carter's van had been uneventful, and they soon reached a parking garage. Carter's driver parked the van in a space. Xarxes and Farilor helped White into his wheelchair and they went to an elevator. Carter used a key to unlock it, and they went down to the basement. When the door opened, four men inside aimed their assault rifles inside the elevator.
"It's me, guys, it's me," said Carter, "These are...well, hell, I don't have your names yet!"
"Gerald Farilor," said Farilor.
"Ray Xarxes," said Xarxes.
Both lacked much emotion, they were shocked over John's death, but White still managed to have a bit of charisma.
"Name's White, if you want to know my first name, too bad," said White.
"Well, we have spare bedrolls here. You can take a few if you want. We'll discuss matters in the morning. Rob, show them the beds," ordered Carter.
"Yes, sir," said the man who must have been Rob.
It took a long time for any of them to sleep, but eventually sleep came, and their dreams were not good ones.

***

Ray woke in the morning to his phone ringing. He quickly pulled it out of his pocket and answered.
"Hello!?" asked Ray.
"Ray, it's Dom. Miller hasn't called in a while, what's going on?" asked Dom.
"Ah shit...forgot to call you last night. We have some bad news, Dom, Miller's dead. Got blown to hell last night by a grenade launcher," said Ray, he had a tough time believing what he said.
"Miller is dead? How did this happen?" asked Dom.
"The cops found us, not sure how. Maybe Harrison betrayed us. Not sure," said Ray.
"How'd you get out?" asked Dom.
"A man named Carter rescued us, he was a friend of John's. He was supposed to be dead, but I guess he faked his death somehow," said Ray.
Suddenly, a soldier entered the room.
"I gotta go," said Ray before pressing end and looking at the soldier.
"Give me your phone," said the soldier.
"Wh-"
"Now!" he roared.
Ray gave him his phone, and the soldier pressed several buttons. He listened to the conversation using a playback feature, and once it was over, he closed the phone and put it in his pocket. During the exchange, White and Farilor had woken up.
"Had to make sure you didn't give up our location. No phones allowed here, cops can listen in," said the soldier, "You two, give me your phones."
"Don't have one," said White.
Farilor gave his up, and the man checked the phone log. No calls had been made for quite a while, according to the log, but that could've been deleted. He entered a command and made sure that no calls had been deleted before taking out the battery and handing the phone back.
"Don't worry, your phones will be given back once we make sure we can trust you. Carelessness on our part not to have taken 'em last night. Now c'mon, Carter wants a word with you," said the guard, "I'm Nick by the way."
Nick helped White into his wheelchair, and the four walked and wheeled out of the barracks room, through a main room, and into a room that resembled an office-bedroom.
"Sit," said Carter, gesturing towards several chairs in front of his desk.
"I brought a seat, Lawrence," said White.
Carter let out a short laugh.
"Good to see you again, White," said Carter
Carter waited for Farilor and Xarxes to sit. When they were seated, he leaned forward.
"Alright, as you know, Gerald Farilor and Ray Xarxes, I am Lawrence Carter. What you might know is that John and I were partners in our vigilante activities for several years, and I was shot to death during one of our raids. What you should be able to put together if you have any sort of brain at all is that I faked my death and never told John. Couldn't tell him."
Carter paused, and sat back in his seat.
"He was into brute force and beating criminals to a pulp with a baseball bat and his fists, while I was into hurting Pallace without letting him know that I was doing it. He was a good kid, I liked him a lot. It was hard not telling him, but it was necessary. John wasn't ready, he wasn't focused. I just let him do his thing, while I did mine. Over the last five years I've been building a resistance. We never worried about those criminals in the slums. We never worried about these wannabe badasses in the mid-levels. We've been working towards really hurting Pallace and his posse. We haven't done anything yet. I'm not taking action against Pallace unless I know that we'll take him and his buddies in one clean strike. Can't leave any of them alive. If one survives, he'll just become the new Pallace, get a new posse, and we'll be right back were we started. I've told you our objective. You were John's men, and probably his friends. You guys want in?"
"Sure."
"Yeah."
"Good, get out of here," said Carter, "White, stay here. I've got some things to talk with you about it."
Farilor and Xarxes left the room and closed the door. Carter got up.
"Sorry we didn't get there fast enough," said Carter, "John was a good kid. I'll miss him. Thanks for calling me, though. Got any new intel on Kaine?"
"Well, they're settled into Matthew Boson's cabin. They're still working towards rescuing that group of scientists who got captured, I didn't tell them anything else, as were your orders," said White.
"Good, we'll include them eventually. Anything else?" asked Carter.
"Nothing," said White.
"Alright. Keep an eye on Farilor and Xarxes. They trust you," said Carter.
"Will do, sir," said White before turning and rolling out of Carter's office.
Once White was gone, Carter picked up his PCD that had been developed by his tech researchers. It was a small walkie-talkie object that couldn't be bugged and couldn't be traced. He pressed several buttons and waited for a voice.
"Tiberius."
"Lupus, good to hear your voice," said Carter.
Carter heard loud music playing in the background. On the PCD with Carter was Howard Wolfe, surveillance director for Pallace's government. Wolfe often used his clearance to replace city camera footage with old footage. He did the same for Pallace's satellite's, and often used the images collected by the satellites to further the goals of Carter's resistance. It was Carter who gave Wolfe the order to cover up John's and Dom's actions. Without Wolfe, they would've been caught faster than they could unzip their fly to take a piss.
"Miller is dead," said Carter.
"His body wasn't found at the scene," said Howard.
"What?" asked Carter.
"A blood trail led from where Miller's body fell to the sidewalk outside. His body was dragged out by somebody and probably put in a vehicle. It happened before reinforcements arrived on the scene," said Wolfe.
"Strange. He was dead, I'm sure of that. I'll look into it," said Carter.
"John was smart enough to keep the place clean. There was a few things that would've led the police to Kaine and his group. But I cleaned up after him. He left a claymore under his laptop, nearly killed me."
Carter smiled, John had gotten smarter.
"Who tipped Pallace off?" asked Carter.
"A man named Frank Harrison. John recruited him, and as soon as Harrison found out John's location, he reported it to the police in exchange for a lot of money and a new house," said Wolfe.
"Thank you Wolfe, be safe," said Carter before hanging up and sitting back in his chair.

"I gotta go," said Ray suddenly and Dom was about to ask him what was going on when the phone went dead.
"Ray? Ray!? Damnit!" said Dom as he realized the conversation was over.
"What happened? Miller is dead!?" said Martin.
"I don't know what is going on.  Shit...shit! What should we do?" asked Dom.
"You probably need to calm down for starters.  This Carter guy sounds like a smart person and if he was a friend of Miller's, then that means he can be trusted.  We probably need to wait.  We cannot make any risky moves.  There is a lot of heat that needs to die down," said Matthew as he slowly shuffled into the room.
"How do you know? This guy could be holding them captive.  Someone cut off Ray's conversation," replied Dom.
"Well, if I was a smart person, I wouldn't let people I just rescued start calling their friends.  The conversation might be traced by unwanted ears.  I admit that the situation seems grim, but we cannot expose ourselves right now or we are doomed," said Matt.  Martin paced back and forth around the room and then Sam came in.  After they filled him in, he had to sit down and took a deep breath.
"Damn...Miller is gone...we don't know where the others are...just...shit," said Sam.
"Alright, I want each of you boys to get to work on something in this place.  Keep your minds occupied anyway that you can.  I will keep alert for any attempts at communication.  Don't think that just because I am an old man, doesn't mean that I don't have a few secrets about my past as well.  I can handle myself probably better than any of you," said Matt.  He shooed everyone out of the room and they each took up some chore.  Dom disassembled every weapon in the headquarters and reassembled them, Sam moved around the outside of the property and placed numerous traps and detection devices with the help of Martin.  Rachel, after being informed of the situation, calmly helped link the traps and detection devices to the main computer of the building.  Matthew, meanwhile, monitored the communications for anything worthwhile.  He then made a single phone call.
"Alvin, how is life treating you my friend? Good? Well, I have a small favor to ask of you.  Remember how you and I used to work with Tim right? Well, it seems that things are not doing so well and that some action is needed.  Even us oldtimers need to carry some weight to help fix things.  I will send you a transmission of what I need through our old method.  Encrypted of course.  Stand by," said Matt as he typed a message and sent it.  Only around four people alive knew of the language they had made.  The number used to be higher, but many of them had died off from either old age or the old corruption wars a number of years back.  They also used a forgotten means of communication that had been used years ago when traced messages was a nuissance.
"Did you get the message? Alright, good...you may have to contact Gordon for help on this.  Thank you my friend.  Goodbye," said Matt before he hung up his phone.  A few good tweakings of technology had done the old thing some good.  No one asked what he did to it, and he wasn't about to just answer them anyways.  Work needed to be done with cool heads.  The young were just too impatient and spontaneous.

Name: Lawrence Carter

Carried
-Terzom-9 custom handgun

-Muruk-20 custom submachine gun

Storage
-Tiberian-7 custom assault rifle

Clothes: Urban camouflaged combat fatigues, black combat boots, black fingerless gloves.
Description: Leader of his own resistance group, Carter faked his death several years back to better resist the corrupt Pallace regime.

After several hours of PCD conversations with the purpose of collecting information, Lawrence got up and began going over the notes he had made during each conversation. Once he was finished going over the notes, he got up and walked out of his office. In the main room, his men were engaged in a variety activities ranging from eating to sparring with fists. However, when Carter entered the room, they all stopped what they were doing and stood at attention.

“As you were, everybody. Nick, come into my office,” said Lawrence before turning and walking back into his office. Nick, who had been cleaning his pistol, set down the pieces he was holding and followed Lawrence into his office.
“We need to make contact with Kaine, and as one of my trusted lieutenants, I task you with the job. Under no circumstances will you inform him of our plan. You are to tell him and his men to lay low. You can tell him that we’ll contact him when the time is right, but tell him that when we summon him, he needs to be ready. Advise him to recruit, gather weapons, and gather strength; anything that could help, but stay quiet. Get that so far?”
“Yes, sir,” said Nick.

“Tell him not to investigate the scientists. We already know what they’ve been researching, and most of their work has been completed anyway. Finding them won’t stop anything but alert Pallace of our presence; they were all killed last night. You can tell him that. Do you understand your orders?” asked Lawrence.
“Yes sir,” said Nick.
“Also, give Kaine a PCD so we can keep in touch with him,” said Lawrence.
“It will be done, sir,” said Nick.
“Good,” said Lawrence.
Nick left the office, and Lawrence sat down at his desk. There was a question burning in his brain. What should he do with Harrison? Harrison, at the moment, did not know that Lawrence knew he betrayed Miller. However, if Lawrence was to kill him, it would alert Pallace’s intelligence officers that Miller’s crew was still alive and united. Lawrence wanted Pallace to think that all resistance was dead. Lawrence wanted to catch Pallace off guard. Harrison could be brought to justice at a later time, but right now, it would be safer to avoid killing him. Personal revenge could come at a later time; at the moment, they had to be quiet.

***

Nick West didn’t have any way to communicate with Dominic Kaine or his men besides a cellular phone, and that could be listened in on. What he was about to say couldn’t be listened in on. If it was, it would reveal that the resistance was biding its time, and Pallace would never let his guard down. He would have to remedy that by giving them a PCD when he found them. At the moment; however, he would have to go to their cabin. He knew where it was, but he would probably get shot or find a claymore mine doing so. It didn’t matter, Carter required it: he would do it. Before leaving, Nick had gathered every shred of intelligence he could from Farilor. He knew every their names, he knew their specializations, he knew everything. Farilor was far too trusting, the “resistance” could have been a clever ruse set up by Pallace. They could’ve been sent in after the police as part of a plan to “rescue” them from the hotel, their mission actually being to gather intelligence for Pallace. They even arrived in a SWAT van. Well, it was a good thing they weren’t the police...

“Don’t move!” roared a voice as Nick walked through the forest near Matt’s cabin. Nick put his hands up; he was surprised it had taken so long for a scout to find him. Then again, the sentry could have been waiting for him to come closer to confirm that he was an intruder instead of a hiker or a camper. Nick knew that the sentry was likely the veteran named Sam, who specialized in scouting and sniping. Nick stopped and put his hands up.

“I’m a friend, my name is Nick West,” said Nick.
The man that Nick guessed to be Sam ran up and grabbed Nick’s pistol and knife. He patted Nick down and pushed him towards the cabin. They stopped, and a man stepped out.
“Dom, this guy was found inside our perimeter,” said Sam.
“Mr. Kaine, my name is Nick West. A friend sent me to give you a message,” said Nick.
“Well, say it,” said Kaine.
“He sent me to give you a message,” said Nick as he looked at Sam.
“Sam is trustworthy,” said Kaine, “I can vouch for him.”
“He sent me to give you a message,” repeated Nick with extra emphasis on the “you”.

“Fine, Sam, go inside for a second,” said Kaine, “The perimeter will be fine for now.”
Sam walked inside, and Nick got up and approached Dom. He leaned close to his ear and began speaking.
“You need to lay low until the time is right. Gather recruits, weapons, and strength until then. Don’t pursue the scientists; we already know what they’ve been doing, and they’re almost done with their research. Finding them won’t do anything except alert Pallace that the resistance is still strong,” explained Nick.
“Rachel won’t like that,” said Dom.
“I trust that you can keep her under control,” said Nick, “The scientists have already been killed. They were executed as soon as their research was complete. They were only kept alive as a lure for the resistance. Since the resistance is “dead”, they were no longer needed.”
Dom was silent for a few seconds, he then looked at Nick.
“What else?” asked Dom.
“We’ll contact you when we need you. Until then, build up your strength,” said Nick, “Can you call Sam back out here and tell him to give me my weapons.”
Dom walked up to the cabin door, opened it, and called Sam.
“Yeah Dom?” asked Sam
“West wants his weapons,” said Dom.
Sam handed Nick his pistol and knife and Nick holstered and sheathed them before walking off into the woods.

Nine months went by, and Carter’s resistance gathered twenty more men. Each one went through a lengthy screening process, and all were tested extensively. Weapons were gathered, most of which from foreign arms dealers. Dom followed Carter’s advise and recruited as well. The five men in Dom’s group grew to fifteen, and most lived in houses around town. They would be called upon when they were needed; the cabin didn’t have enough space. After ten months, Carter received the intelligence he had been waiting for from Wolfe.

Edward Pallace, Paulo Gamano, Zachary Adler, Renard Lanson, Wesley Prion, and Konstantin Mikelov would all be meeting in the Paradise Hotel in the upper levels. Once a year the “City Council” had a personal meeting, and for the past several years, Carter had been preparing. He had secured a plane, three helicopters, heavy weapons, and a tank, along with body armor for all his men. Not only that, but he had maneuvered one of his best friends into becoming Supreme Commander of the Tyrosian Army.

David Richardson was an idealistic white knight, and would only keep power long enough to form a new government. Lawrence Carter and Dominic Kaine would decapitate Pallace’s government, and David Richardson would launch a coup to seize power shortly afterwards.

The moment that Lawrence Carter had been waiting decades for had finally arrived. Edward Pallace, and his corrupt government, would finally fall.

***

Vincent Chase, Ron Peterson, Roy Bowen, Scott Kelly, Steve Thomas, and Harry Coble were standing at the top of the Paradise Hotel. The ten guards who had been stationed on the roof were dead, victims of six former assassins who were currently dead men. All had been abandoned or left for dead, and all wanted revenge. All were wearing black jumpsuits and ski-masks, and every one of them had a submachine gun and a pistol. They had rappel lines in their hands. Vincent and his new friends had been waiting for months for a chance to kill his former boss’s boss, Renard Lanson, and Vincent was going to kill that son-of-a-bitch or die trying.

***

The plane, called the Hellfury by the pilot and owner, was currently flying thousands of feet above Nargess. The Hellfury was carrying fifteen men who, not long from then, would be jumping out the back of the plane with the intention of decapitating the Tyrosian Government. Shaun Maurice was proud to be flying the plane. The light went green, and the fifteen men and a woman under Dominic Kaine stood up. Rachel Jameson would finally be able to avenge her brother. Their objective was to land on the roof, eliminate the guards, sabotage the helicopter on the helipad to prevent anybody from escaping from the roof, and fight down the tower until they reached Pallace and his posse.

***

The APC rolled out of the back of the stolen army truck with Nick West driving and a resistance member named Rob operating the turret on the top. There were twenty men crammed into the APC, and Lawrence Carter was standing up near the back. The APC roared through the upper levels, and soon reached a barricade a block from the hotel. Rob started up the turret and opened fire, mowing down the soldiers as they drove by.

***

Vincent Chase and his men rappelled down the side of the building quickly, shooting guards that were looking out the windows as they rappelled down with their silenced pistols. Renard Lanson was on the 132nd floor of the 206 floor building. They didn’t have enough rope to reach down that far, but they would get down as far as they could. The elevators were probably locked down by now. As Vincent rappelled down, however, he noticed an APC blasting through barricades a block from the hotel.
“What the fuck?” he said.

***

Dominic, Rachel, Sam, Hugo, and the others landed and began securing the roof. They quickly noticed that the guards on the roof were already dead.
“What the hell!?” yelled Dominic before speaking into his PCD headset, “Lawrence!”

***

“Yeah Dom?” asked Lawrence.
“The guards on the roof are already dead. Did you involve another group?” asked Dom.
“The guards are dead? No, I didn’t,” said Lawrence.
“Orders?” asked Dom.
“Proceed with mission,” said Lawrence.
“Yes sir.”

The APC continued through several more barricades, and the barricade soldiers were not equipped with anti-armor weaponry, and small arms didn’t do much to the thick vehicle. The APC crashed through the final barricade and stopped in front of the hotel, with Rob mowing down every soldier he saw. A bodyguard appeared with an anti-tank missile launcher, but he was cut down by a torrent of fire. After a minute, Rob stopped firing. The bodyguards and soldiers had been ordered to fall back and hold them off inside the building. That had been what Lawrence had expected, and he got out with his twenty men, leaving Nick, Dave, and Rob inside the APC to operate it and defend against any more reinforcements. Lawrence picked up a dead bodyguard’s radio and put the earpiece in his ear. From what he heard, they were being assaulted by four different groups: one on the 32nd floor, one on the 172nd floor, one coming down from the roof, and one coming up from the ground. The one on the 32nd floor consisted of one heavily armored man with an assault rifle, which Lawrence found strange for obvious reasons, the one on the 172nd floor consisted of six men with submachine guns, the one coming down from the roof had around fifteen men, and the one coming up was unknown. With his twenty men ready for battle, they walked through the front doors of the hotel, ready for any ambush.

***

Martin disabled the helicopter while the others watched the entrances to the roof. Once the helicopter was sabotaged, the group began their descent into the heavily guarded hotel. According to their intelligence, Pallace and his posse were on the 132nd floor. They’d have to fight to the stairwell, and then fight their way down the stairwell. They were likely to sustain heavy casualties, but it was a cause worth dying for.

Vincent and his men all squeezed the triggers of their pistols simultaneously, causing the window to break and all four guards inside to fall to the ground, dead. Vincent and his five allies flew through the broken window and let their ropes loose before holstering their pistols and drawing their submachine guns. They were on the 172nd floor; they had a long way to go.

“Stay in the conference room!” roared the chief of security.
“There is a helicopter on the roof! We can use that to escape!” yelled Konstantin Mikelov.
“They are attacking from the roof and below, we must kill them,” said the chief of security, “Stay here and keep the doors locked. Let nobody in!”

With that, the chief of security closed the conference room doors and locked them.

Nobody had been left in the lobby after the APC offence, but the elevators were locked down. It was something that Lawrence had expected, but he had a plan. The security headquarters was on the 182nd floor, if Kaine and his men could reach it, they could reactivate the elevators.
“Kaine,” called Lawrence over the PCD.
“The roof is secure and we are about to breach the top floor,” said Kaine.
“On the 182nd floor is the security headquarters. If you can get there, you can activate the elevators and we can come up,” said Lawrence.
“You sure about this?” asked Kaine, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Wanted you to know only what was necessary. The security headquarters is the entire 182nd floor, you can’t miss it,” said Lawrence.
“Orders understood,” said Kaine.
“Alright, we’ll hold off the reinforcements in the front. They’ll try to land some on the roof too, and they’ll be attacking the windows from helicopters. Good luck, Dom,” said Lawrence.

“Alright, change of plans. We’ll be assaulting the security headquarters on the 182nd floor. They’re likely to have auto-turrets, and maybe one of those cyborgs,” said Dom, remembering the one that they had encountered while rescuing Rachel, the one that had killed Brad.
“Like the one you encountered, Dom?” asked Jeff, a newer recruit to Kaine’s group.
“Yeah, like that one. We’re prepared this time, though,” said Dom as he gestured to Terry and Dick, both of whom were carrying heavy duty EMP cannons.
“Hell yeah,” said Dick.
“Alright, lets go!” roared Kaine as one of his men opened the door and another threw a grenade. The grenade was followed by several men who had their submachine guns and assault rifles at the ready. There was nobody in the stairwell, however, and the breaching group ran down the stairs.

The hallway below was fortified with around a dozen men, and Alan ran up to report to Dom.
“Around twelve guys down there ready to blow our brains out,” said Alan.
“Use a grenade launcher,” advised Dom.
Butch ran down the stairs and opened fire with his grenade launcher. The men in the hallway below began firing before being injured or killed by the shrapnel and explosions. Afterwards, Dom and his group ran downstairs and secured the top floor before running to the stairwell.

Vincent and his fellow dead men were now the proud owners of several security uniforms, courtesy of several now dead guards. It had been hard to get them without bloodstains, but Vincent knew that it would be worth it. They were able to run by security officers without suspicion due to the chaos springing from the groups now assaulting from the roof and holding the lobby. There was also a solo operative now on the 33rd floor, Vincent didn’t really care about him though; he just wanted Renard.

“Die you sons of bitches!” roared Rob as he fired the machine gun mounted on the top of the APC. They were conserving the missiles for when the helicopters and tanks arrived. Lawrence and some of his men were currently holding the lobby, making sure that nobody came in from the hotel to flank them. So far, only a few groups had been stupid enough, but that would change soon.

After intense fighting in the stairwell, Dominic and his group reached the 182nd floor. They had lost Frank Carrie, Gary Michaels, Rick Barrett, and Alan Robinson fighting down the stairwell, but hotel security, the army, and the big five’s bodyguards had lost far more. The door was locked, so it was blown open, and an intense firefight began on the 182nd floor.

“Any minute now,” muttered Lawrence.
As if called, the helicopters containing heavily armored SWAT members appeared and began dropping men half a blood away. At the same time, more helicopters arrived and dropped men up on the roof.
“Dom, police are here. They’ve dropped men off up on the roof. Be ready,” said Lawrence.

Dom jumped behind a wall after firing a burst of ammunition and pushed the earpiece into his ear using his index finger.
“What!?” yelled Dom.
“They’ve dropped SWAT guys off on the roof!” yelled Lawrence over the sound of gunfire.
“Shit, thanks!” yelled Dom.

“You six, they need reinforcements up on the 182nd floor!” yelled a security officer.
Vincent turned around and looked at the officer.
“What?” asked Vincent.
“Up on th-“
The officer was cut off by a submachine gun burst from Bowen. They all looked around for witnesses before walking into the stairwell.

Lawrence heard over the radio that the solo intruder was now on the 40th floor.
“Shit, how is this guy still alive?” wondered Lawrence as the APC fired on the attackers.
Lawrence! The elevators are online!” yelled Dom, sounding breathless.
“Good work, Dom! I want you to shut them down when we get up to the 131st floor,” ordered Lawrence.
“Good idea, 132nd floor is likely to be an ambush,” said Dom.
“Men!” roared Lawrence as he ran over to the elevators and called all four of them, “Into the elevators!”

“We’ll hold ‘em!” yelled Nick over the PCD.

***

As Lawrence and several other men went up, they heard a loud bang on the roof of the elevator accompanied by a dent in the roof.
“What the fuck is that?” asked Peter.
“Don’t shoot!” yelled Lawrence, “A stray bullet could cut a cable and cause this elevator to go down the shaft.”
They continued aiming their weapons at the roof of the elevator until they saw that they were going by the 123rd floor.
“Aim outside the elevator, whatever’s on the roof is a non-hostile,” said Lawrence.
The doors on the 131st floor opened for one elevator after another, but there was little organized resistance. On the floor above, Lawrence heard a firefight.
“The intruder on the 40th floor must have hitched a ride with us,” thought Lawrence out loud.
After about thirty seconds, the firing stopped.
“Up the stairs!” ordered Lawrence as he ran over to the stairwell.
“Lawrence, what’s going on?” asked Dom.
“131st floor offered no resistance, but there’s another intruder on the 132nd floor,” said Lawrence.
“I have access to the security cameras…holy shit!” yelled Dom.
“What?” asked Lawrence as he climbed the stairs with his men.
“That guy killed off twelve men!” yelled Dom.
Lawrence opened the door to see a man aiming an assault rifle at him, Lawrence raised his submachine gun, and the intruder aimed away.
“Carter, I thought you were dead,” said a familiar voice.
The intruder took off his ski-mask, and Lawrence saw that the intruder was none other than John Miller.
“I could say the same about you,” said Lawrence.

***

John Miller, 33, a man who got blown up and put back together, was standing on the 132nd floor with his K-75 assault rifle in his hands and his Dragonfire pistols in his leg holsters. He was wearing a familiar brown leather trench-coat that had been pumped full of holes during the battles on the lower holes. However, John seemed to be relatively unharmed.
“How’d you survive?” asked Carter.
“A story for another time,” said Miller as he readied his rifle.
Carter’s men were silent, they let Carter handle the talking, and both Farilor and Xarxes were currently with Dom’s group. John Miller walked down the hallway to the conference room, set an explosive charge, and walked back. The doors exploded, and John ran through and fired two shots, followed by Carter and his men. Inside were the big five: Paulo Gamano, Zachary Adler, Renard Lanson, Wesley Prion, and Konstantin Mikelov. Also there was Joseph Priam, Pallace’s closest advisor. Edward Pallace, however, was nowhere to be seen.
“John Miller?” asked Priam, who was sitting down at the head of the table, “And a resistance cell! Well, isn’t this a party. Want to make a deal?”
“Not really,” said John, “Where’s Pallace?”
“That’s the deal. I can tell you where he is if you promise me amnesty for my crimes,” said Priam.
John raised his rifle and shot off a grenade, which hit Priam square in the chest and caused him to explode.
“Where’s Pallace?” asked John to the others.
“I don’t know! Do not blow me up!” yelled Mikelov before being shot in the head repeatedly by John.
“Miller! Stop!” yelled Carter.
“Where’s Pallace?” asked John in a monotone voice.
“Only Priam knew!” yelled Adler before being executed with several rounds to the head.
“John!” yelled Carter as he raised his weapon at Miller.
“They don’t know, and they’re scum. They deserve to die,” said John.
“Don’t you remember what I taught you? Every man needs a trial,” said Carter, “Even these scumbags.”
Suddenly, the window broke, and Gamano, Lanson, and Prion all fell with bullets in their head. John, Carter, and the other men all turned and opened fire on the unknown attackers outside the window.

***

Vincent and the five dead men quickly climbed up to the 133rd floor and cut loose their ropes before running out of the hotel room they had descended from and over to the stairwell. They would climb down the stairwell and escape through the police lines disguised as hotel security. They were all free now, no longer marked men. It was a good feeling.

***

John stopped firing and looked down at the bodies in the room as Carter switched the frequency and raised his finger to his ear.
“It’s done,” said Carter.
“Good, get the hell out of there,” said the voice of Howard Wolfe, “Richardson will be informed.”
“Dom, activate the elevators and get the hell out, the roof is the extraction point,” said Carter.
“Yes sir,” said Dom, “Was that Miller?”
“Not now, Dom,” said Carter, “Nick, get to your extraction point.”
There was no response.
“Nick?” asked Carter.
There was still no response.
“They’re dead,” said John as he looked out the window, below was the fiery shell of an APC.
“Dammit! Get to the roof!” yelled Carter

***

Seven minutes later, after fighting through several SWAT squads, both Dom’s squad and Carter’s squad arrived on the roof, along with Miller. Carter said a few words into his PCD, and thirty seconds later, three helicopters arrived. One looked to be heavily armored and armed; the other looked like a transport helicopter. The survivors from the assault bordered the helicopters, and the helicopters began their escape from the assault on the Paradise Hotel. Two police helicopters attempted to shoot them down, but the escort helicopters managed to protect the transport. During the assault, Carter had lost fourteen men, Dom had lost seven.
“John,” asked Dom, “How did you survive?”
“I’ll explain later,” said John, “It’s a long story.”

Vincent Chase, Ron Peterson, Roy Bowen, Scott Kelly, Steve Thomas, and Harry Coble all ran through the police lines, having left their weapons behind in the building. They weren’t shot by police, and after lengthy questioning, they were allowed to go home. It would take the police quite a while to figure out that they had just let several accomplices to the assault go. It made Vincent and Ron laugh as the six walked off.

***Epilogue***

David Richardson's military coup proved to be successful, and the corrupt regime was quickly toppled and replaced by a democratic government. Many crimelords and hitmen were imprisoned and executed in the following trials, and all of the men involved in the fall of the old regime became heroes.

However, Pallace was still alive, as were many of his top lieutenants. And as long as they were alive and at large, the new government could fall as quickly as it was put up.

He, and all of his accomplices, would have to die...

***

Vincent and his men all squeezed the triggers of their pistols simultaneously, causing the window to break and all four guards inside to fall to the ground, dead. Vincent and his five allies flew through the broken window and let their ropes loose before holstering their pistols and drawing their submachine guns.
